Chapter 14 [Next Morning—Blue and Penny's Room]

[Author's Note- "Intervention" is my original work.]

Sol streamed through the window. Faerie Dust floated on Morn's early light. Revelry kept the couples and guests until Luna rose high in the sky.

Penny stirred first. Her eyes slowly blurred back into focus. She reclined into the harbor of Blue's arms. She sighed at their first night together. Elation lightened her heart. She could almost float to the ceiling. Is this a dream? I…

Her mother-in-law's ring glittered back at her.

I'm really Mrs. Penny Fox Cannon! Guess I should start calling Victoria Ma at some point? She glanced at Blue. I wonder how Blue would take that? Yesterday was great. I don't want to push him. The Cannons are great. So are the Montoyas and Vegas…well if Mercedes' Ma can stay as nice as she was yesterday. She carefully untangled herself from his arms. She slowly stood and stretched. Still can't believe it! She grinned. She looked around the room.

By the door, an envelope rested on the floor.

What's that? She picked it up. It simply said, "Blue and Penny". It's Mercedes' handwriting. She quirked an eyebrow. She wanted to wait for Blue to open it together. Still Curiosity won out. She opened it anyhow. Then she read:

"Queridos Blue y Penny,

Muchas gracias for sharing this wedding day with Manolo and me. A double wedding is special. Miguel enjoyed his task. He wishes you all the best. He invites us all to Mass every week.

The greatest part was that family united as one. Love tied us all together. I see how Manolito looks forward to our time at Rivertree. I cannot wait as well.

This piece is for you both. I write poems. And this one is for you both.

Gracias!

Tia Mercedes

Intervention

Mercedes Vega de Montoya

The world seemed dark

On day not long past

Hope missed his mark

With dart wide cast

Determined was I

Amor I'd find

No arranged lie

For him I pined

Found him

By Luck

From banditos' sin

He did me pluck

For time short

Manolito and I

At Love's court

Our case to try

Banditos returned

Took me they did

Love they spurned

Far away they me hid

Escape I made

Despite my wound

Strength did fade

Lucinda away mov'd

I lost hope

Town was dark

I could not cope

Pain hits its mark

Blue appear'd

From dark livery stable

Called to Lady Dear

So wound not be fatal

My life turned

Back toward Grace

My heart burned

To Manolito I'd race

Still you both

Took loving care

Affection did grow

For you, Friends Fair.

Fortune grants me all

Happy I am now

Joy does me call

With new family found

Manolito and I

Blessed are we

Our souls fly

Our hearts free

Because of you

Dear Blue and Penny

We found Truth

With faces many

Opportunity we'll give

You we shall repay

Together we'll live

Together our rancho tame"

Penny collapsed into the chair. She reread the poem. Granted Imagery and Metaphor escaped her. Appreciation illuminated Effort's composition. "Gosh! Nobody did something like this before!"

"Penny?" Blue turned over. He groped around the mattress. "Wha?" He slowly sat up. "You're up early."

"Couldn't sleep." She reread the poem. "Read this. It's sure something else!" She handed him the paper.

He quirked an eyebrow. Despite Drowsiness yanking him back toward his pillow, Curiosity intrigued him over what was on that paper. "It's a thank you note from Mercedes. Tia? What?"

"It means 'aunt', Blue. She is." she reminded him. "Keep going."

He read on. His eyes went wide. "This is a poem."

"Keep going." She watched him slow his pace. She noted how his eyes drank in each stanza metaphor by metaphor. "It's pretty."

"Sure is. Wish I understood more of it. I get the point." He handed it back to her. "That's sure a nice keepsake."

"Wish I could do write or do art like that." Lament forced a frown onto her face.

"Well why can't you?" He shrugged. "I draw sometimes."

"You do? Really?" She arched an eyebrow. "Haven't seen you doing it."

"I don't know. Guess we've been so busy, I haven't had time. I'll get back to it." He embraced her. "But I know someone perfect I can be with."

"Yeah?" She giggled. "That sure woke you up."

'That and maybe something else. It is kind of our honeymoon. Ain't it?" He smiled. Suggestion gleamed in his eyes.

"Blue, what am I going to do with you?" She leaned close. Her lips pressed against his. She let him pick her up and carry her back toward the bed.

Ambiance demanded its time after all….
