Were Brave II
On Ember Island, during the vacation with Mai and Zuko and Azula, Ty Lee tried to psych herself up. Delivering bad news to Azula was inadvisable so she could only hope that this would not come across as bad news. Maybe Azula wanted to hear about this. Ty Lee told herself that again and again but she just did not know. Azula was not a romantic and Azula was difficult to read. She was not a woman who was built for love, but Ty Lee loved her anyway.
She stood on the beach, waiting for Azula to finish her firebending practice.
Little did she know, the beautiful blue flames licking the even bluer sky and sea were hiding such similar thoughts. Azula was brave. She was brave enough to take on the Avatar himself, to make a radical move that led to the fall of the Earth Kingdom. She spoke up in war meetings and wrapped the Fire Lord himself around her little finger.
But, she did not think she was brave enough to admit to Ty Lee what she was feeling, what she realized last night at that party and the bonfire with Mai and Zuko.
Both girls spent the entire night awake wondering if they should tell each other what was up. Wondering if they should tell each other that they are in love.
Azula finished her practice. She walked up the beach and saw Ty Lee wringing her hands. Her heart did a backflip. Maybe this was it; maybe this was her chance to order Ty Lee to be her girlfriend. Maybe it was time for the great and magnificent Princess Azula of the Fire Nation to claim a woman as her own, to be in love. Maybe it was time for Ty Lee to be brave enough to tell Azula something that she might not like to hear.
"The weather is lovely today," said Azula.
"The sky is like really blue!" Ty Lee said with a smile. "Blue like your fire! Your fire is so nice!"
"I know. I will see you later." Azula walked away.
Neither girl admitted anything.
Neither girl was brave this morning.
