almost escaped
Ty Lee made a decision that terrified her the night before she decided to leave with the circus. After seeing them last night in Caldera, she knew it was her calling. She knew it was exactly what she wanted to do with her life. Ty Lee was ready to go, packed, certain, her affairs in order. But there was one thing that was keeping her awake. There was one reason she did not know if she could manage leaving home or not.
And so she snuck out of her crowded house and walked the mile to the palace. She knew the security by heart and with a few simple gymnastic feats, she found herself able to knock on Azula's window.
Azula opened the window, rubbing her eyes.
"Why are you here?" she asked bitterly. "I thought you were running away to join the circus."
"Come with me," daringly whispered Ty Lee.
"To the circus?" scoffed Azula with a flippant roll of her eyes.
Ty Lee leaned forward to emphasize her next statement. "To anywhere. The circus is my calling but I'd go anywhere if I was with you."
"Romantic sentiment, but I must say I am utterly uninterested, " lied Azula.
Ty Lee tried not to look sad. She desperately wanted to play this cool, but it terrified her to bare her heart.
"We could escape. We talked about that, remember." Ty Lee's eyes gleamed with tears. She tried to steel herself, unable to let them fall.
"I lied. I never meant it. My crown will always mean more to me than you," said Azula. She shut the window before Ty Lee could get inside, and went back to bed.
Ty Lee sat on the sill waiting, but Azula never returned.
