Marinette had to sneak back into her room as Ladybug, this time alone. She could not expect that Adrien would turn up later on as Chat Noir landing on her terrace. Although this is what she longed for. Sitting at her computer, she decided to take her mind off what could be, and looked at the design inspirations she had saved. The first one was a picture of Adrien in his newest campaign, this made her blush.
"Marinette, you need to sleep," Tikki reminded her as she chowed down on a cookie.
"I know Tikki," she spun in her chair and put her hands behind her head. "I can't help it that I'm wide awake, I need to settle myself."
*dong*
Her messenger had gone off on her computer, there was a message from Luka waiting to be read. Her heart was racing, she hadn't thought much about how she would tell him.
"Open it up Marinette," Tikki urged her.
Marinette opened the message and it read:
Luka: I hope you are well, I spoke to Juleka today and she's very sorry for not talking to you. She understands why we have gone our separate ways but she is struggling with how to be with you at this moment. Can you speak to her when you see her next please, I know she will come around.
"That's an okay message isn't it Tikki," she looked at her Kwami who had fallen asleep on her bed. Marinette smiled and went back to face the computer. The bluenette typed several versions of a message before deciding what to say.
Marinette: I'm glad you've messaged, I wanted to meet with you tomorrow as I have some news for you. I hope it doesn't come to much of a shock to you, but I do think it's best that I do this in person.
Anticipating his response, she stared at the screen watching him write a message to her. She was nervous, even though they had separated on good terms, Marinette was still worried how this news would be received.
Luka: Marinette, if you would like to tell me to my face that you have moved on then there is no reason to do so. I know how strongly you have felt for another, even since before we started dating. If it's my blessing you are after then you have it. You will always be my first love but I know I was not yours.
His words came as a relief to Marinette. Excitedly she typed out another message to him, feeling light and fluffy with the way this had gone.
Marinette: I feel it was only right that I tell you Luka, thank you for being a wonderful person. I am very sure that you will make someone very happy as you deserve yourself. I did love you Luka, just not how you loved me. Thank you for being so understanding.
She sent the message feeling very good about it all. How was it that it was so easy? Maybe Luka was just a very good person, destined to be her friend and nothing more. Another message popped up:
Luka: I am understanding more and more each day as it comes. It does hurt to think that I could never be that person for you, so thank you for not leading me on. I am assuming you have finally found the courage to speak to Adrien?
Marinette was surprised to see that he had been so open in asking about it all. He was very mature for his age so maybe this was just the way he was. He really was a remarkable person, and had been a great friend. Marinette was hoping to keep him as a friend but maybe that would be too selfish of her.
Marinette: I wish in some part that you could have been that person Luka, you are a very special friend to me and it would have been nice if I could have wholeheartedly returned your feelings. I have spoken to Adrien as it happens, and yes it has all come out this evening. I really hope you still want to be friends, maybe not right away but in time, in the future?
Marinette clicked send again, wondering if this was all too good to be true. He was writing a message back so she needed to only wait a few moments more.
Luka: Marinette, you are a special person to me, having you in my life is more important than you not being there. I hope you all the happiness with Adrien and if it goes tits up, you know where I am ;).
She read the message a little bit alarmed at the last part. Still though, he had given his blessing and now she need not worry about the repercussions from this news getting to him through any of their friends.
Marinette: Haha! Thanks Luka :) I will speak to Juleka when I see her. Please say hi to your mum for me, thank you again, you're one in a million!
Relaxed about getting that out of the way, Marinette was able to focus her mind on designs for a jacket, and it just so happened she had the perfect model in mind.
Half an hour went by and she looked up at her ceiling hoping to hear footsteps on it. She knew her mum and dad would be up early with the bakery, tempting to leave them a message that she had gone to Alya's, Marinette toyed with the idea of popping to Adrien's.
'Could I get away with it? He isn't coming here obviously.'
She rolled her eyes knowing how difficult it would be for him to sneak under the radar and get back to her.
"Tikki..." she tried to wake her Kwami. "Tikki...wake up we're going to Adrien's." This time she had managed to wake her Kwami who looked dazed and annoyed.
"Marin-" she yawned, "-ette." Tikki looked tiredly at her, "is this a good idea?"
"Tikki it's not going to happen every night I promise," she hastened, "I just want to see him, like he came to me."
After sending a quick text to Alya and receiving many thumbs up in reply, Marinette was scribbling on a piece of paper saying she was staying at Alya's house to baby sit her sisters. Darting through her hatch to leave the note on the coffee table, she was hoping Tikki would come around to the idea.
"Ok," Tikki relented, and with that Marinette was transformed into Ladybug.
