Gabriel stepped out of the car with a solemn expression, Marinette had tear marks down her face.

"Do you want me to come with you," Sabine followed her daughter out on to the pavement.

"No it's ok, Mr Agreste is taking me." She hugged her mum and headed over to the town car that Gabriel had stepped out of. "I'll ring you when I've seen him." She disappeared into the open door which Gabriel had stepped out of, and he climbed in after her.

The car door shut and they were making their way to the hospital. Marinette was looking out of the window, not focusing on the scenery, her mind was with Adrien.

Gabriel sat in silence, the air between them was awkward but they both had the same need to get to their destination, Adrien.

"Adrien has been in a car accident, I am with him in the ambulance, Mr Agreste is on his way to pick you up now." Nathalie explained to a shaken Marinette. "A fellow student had darted out in front of the car-" that's all Marinette had heard before she dropped her phone in a panic looking around for her bag, instantly the tears had started to tumble from her eyes.

"Who was the student?" Marinette asked Gabriel in a whisper.

He cleared his throat and replied horsely "Kagami."

Marinette had an inclination that the conversation between her and Adrien was not going to go well. She envisioned however, that it would lead to her being Akumatised and her and Chat Noir would have defeated her like in the other reality they had already been in.

"Was she Akumatised?" Marinette asked but she knew the answer.

"No I-" Gabriel stopped himself before he slipped up, "-I do not believe she was." He settled with his eyes focused on the buildings they were passing.

"How is his driver?"

"Also critical."

They made there way into the emergency department of the hospital where Nathalie was waiting for them. She stood up when she seen them hurrying towards her, even Gabriel abandoned his usual commanding strut for a slight jog. Nathalie had her arm in a sling with small cuts on her face, she was shaken and pale.

"Gorilla is in theatre-" she started, "-his family have been contacted." She turned and gestured for them to follow her, Gabriel came to her side and Marinette followed behind them. "Adrien is in here," opening the door to a private room. "He's had a really bad blow to the head," she pointed to him lying on the bed. "The doctors will be in when they have a moment."

"Mr Agreste," Marinette started, "I will wait outside, just let me know when I can come in please." The worry was evident on her face and Gabriel couldn't ignore it.

"I brought you to be with us here," he replied softly, "not out on the corridor." He gestured for her to come in and she shut the door behind her, edging closer to Adrien's bedside. She was unsure and nervous on how to act in front of his father and Nathalie. "Marinette, your parents made it quite clear this morning how fond you are of my son and I believe he will want you here when he wakes up." He nodded at her when he noticed her hesitation, "my son does not go against my wishes but yet he had you sleep next to him which tells me he is willing to even piss me off to have you with him." Marinette looked at him shocked, everything she had to come to know of him was different to what she believed. "Therefore you belong here, with him."

At this last comment made by Gabriel, Marinette felt she was able to clasp his hand in hers and sit close to the bed while Gabriel and Nathalie stood at the end conversing.

Gabriel turned to Nathalie, his hair askew and face drawn. "Please sit down, you have been hurt too, have they given you medication?" He asked as he put a chair behind her and gently sat her down. "Are you ok?" He asked looking at her with concern and pulled up a chair to sit between the foot of Adrien's bed and Nathalie.

"I'm fine just in shock that's all." She replied looking at her lap. "It all happened so quickly, the girl, Gorilla, the tanker."

Marinette zoned out of their conversation while staring at Adrien with longing. Longing for him to wake up, she noticed his ring and took it off in case it had to be removed if he went to have a procedure. Placing it in her bag, Tikki kept tight hold of it to make sure it stayed safe until he could have it back.

It seemed hours went by, a few texts had been sent between herself and her mum, herself and Nino and even Chloè had messaged. Obviously the news had broke of their relationship and what had happened, Marinette knew Adrien was one of Chloè's oldest friends so she didn't begrudge telling her she would keep her informed.

Gabriel fetched them all drinks and had been pacing the room while on the phone. Nathalie was not in a fit state to work so he took it upon himself to contact the people who needed to be informed. They had also been informed that Gorilla had come out of theatre so Gabriel went to see him and check on his family.

'Where has the cold man gone? Who is this person that I have no knowledge of?' Marinette could not believe how much his personality and mannerisms had altered in such a short space of time.

Her thoughts wondered to Kagami. She had not been Akumatised, and her grief had still caused pain, pain that at this time Marinette could understand. For years she had resigned herself to never have this young man by her side, but now her glimmer of happiness had brought hurt to another, and harm to her love.

'I wish my Lucky Charm could fix this. Why hadn't Hawkmoth just Akumatised her? This would have been a perfect moment to monopolise a strong opponent.' Marinette pondered bitterly.

'What the hell have I done?'

Kagami was filled with hate and loathing for herself, her heart was broken, but it was not done intentionally. Yet she still had no powers over this darkness that had thrust her in front of the car as it pulled away.

'You are weak Kagami. You have been humiliated by him and this girl you thought was your friend!'

The familiar voice snarled loudly in her head, but no it wasn't in her head. Her mother stood in front of her, a look of distain and disappointment loomed over her face. Kagami knew that behind those big black glasses lay a stare sharp enough to kill given the chance.

"Kagami! Look at me!" Her mother demanded. "You have brought shame on yourself, shame on me, shame on our name!" She continued with her scathing words. Kagami had no choice but to allow the words cascade over her like icy water, she knew what she had done.

'Why didn't I just get Akumatised, this would all be over now and Adrien wouldn't be in hospital. I do not know what had come over me.'

Actually she did. A jealous rage had engulfed her when Adrien had told her that her suspicions about him and Marinette had some truth behind them, although he denied realising this until after they had split. There was some truth in this after all. This was not consoling to Kagami however, as she had always known that there was an undeniable pull between them. Had he really not realised his feelings for her, before he had ended their relationship! This is when the familiar voice had taken hold...

'You're a fool!'

Managing to keep her composure, up until that moment, Adrien had got into his chauffeur driven car with the most genuine smile in his face she had only really ever seen, when he had been in the company of a particular person.

'STOP HIM!'

Red mist had descended over her eyes, but not the familiar side effect from becoming Akumatised, this was all her. Lunging at the bonnet of the car she had landed in front of them, Gorilla with his quick reflexes managed to dodge but into the path of an oil tanker which smashed into the vehicle causing actual damage which could not be fixed by Ladybug.

Now she was here. Sitting with her mother towering over her.

"Kagami, do you have anything to say for yourself?!"

The question was rhetorical, she had been conditioned over the course of her life to remain composed and not answer back. This did not stop Kagami, not this time...

"Mother you need to stop!" With a low growl, the words escaped her. Her mother noted this change in her usually compliant daughter. Taken aback, she regained her stance and bore down more with her body language to regain control of the girl in front of her. There was a change she hadn't taken in to the equation. The change brought on by the effects of a broken heart.

Kagami rose to her feet, anger and resentment running through her, this time it was aimed at her mother. She was able to control this somewhat better than before however, and she seemed to use this new found strength to intimidate the once undeniable force that was her mother. The way her mother had always intimidated her.

"The tables have turned mother." She rose up to tower over her mother, strength and defiance oozing from her. "Enough!" She started walking towards the door. "I do not care about your honour! You should count your blessings that Hawkmoth is not releasing Akumas," the anger bubbling to the surface.

Without a word from her mother, who stared after her in surprise and resentment at these words, Kagami walked out into the city of Paris. Rain hitting her forehead, Kagami made her way to the hospital.

I felt it necessary to highlight the negative impact that her mother had on her, creating this inner scathing self loathing voice. Kagami is not evil, just in need of a hug and acceptance. Kagami is just as conditioned as Adrien but doesnt have the same access to friends as Adrien.
