Marinette was still processing the information she had learned in Bunnix' portal. When Gabriel had gone back to his time, Marinette had a stern look on her face, still unsure if she had actually made the right decision. The butterfly Miraculous in her hand still, she was completely and utterly gobsmacked.
"Marinette, I need you to keep this information from Adrien." Her demeanour was concerned as Bunnix deliberately made eye contact with Marinette.
Marinette had not even thought about how she was going explain the sudden appearance of the long lost Miraculous, never mind the fact that Hawkmoth himself, had been the one to hand it over willingly. Given who Hawkmoth had turned out to be, it made sense that Adrien should never find out this information.
"How the hell do I explain all of this," Marinette was at a loss.
"Tell him I gave it to you, keep some truth to it, that Hawkmoth was willing to hand it over to me and all that-" Bunnix was casually moving her arms about while talking, becoming rather animated. "-but you can never tell Adrien who his father was." Bunnix looked unsure about how to phrase the next part, but decided to say it as best she could. "His Miraculous, like yours, is very powerful, and from what I can gather, emotions have a major effect on how that power is used." She looked down with sadness and sighed, "the outcomes that I have seen of him finding out are horrific."
"I understand Bunnix." Marinette half smiled at Bunnix, knowing what an amazing choice she had made in entrusting the Miraculous to her. "I am so happy you have this Miraculous Alix."
"Me too Marinette," she swelled her chest and appeared to be looking off into the distance. "With great power, comes great responsibility!" She laughed and winked at Marinette. "It's time for you to go back now Marinette, and remember-" she put her hand on Marinette's shoulder, "-Adrien is not to know, or your Kwami."
Marinette nodded knowingly, for she knew that by telling no one, the news would not come out and have a detrimental effect to their lives.
"Marinette!" Tikki looked alarmed at Marinette, as she emerged, as soon as she had disappeared, out of the portal, "is everything ok?"
"It is now," as she said this, her hand opened up in front of Tikki, exposing the butterfly Miraculous. Tikki's eyes widened as she peered into Marinette's hand.
The trap door to her room opened, causing them to look in the direction of the hatch as Adrien emerged through it.
"Hey Bugaboo why-," he read the room. "What's the matter?" His brow creased in concern as he leaned in to peck her thoughtful parted lips. His gaze drifted down to Marinette's open hand and saw the Miraculous. "Marinette, what's that?" He questioned.
"I-uh-it's the butterfly Miraculous." She replied shakily.
"Marinette, how did you get it?" He was concerned, waiting for her response.
"Bunnix."
"How did Bunnix get it?" Still concerned. Looking at Marinette, who was fixated on the Miraculous.
"Apparently, we had been following a pull to Nooroo-"
"That's what I was telling you when you were pulled into the portal by Bunnix!" Tikki exclaimed.
"-and it didn't go very well. Bunnix came back in time and-and basically prevented destruction by getting the Miraculous from Hawkmoth." Marinette looked up to meet Adrien's gaze.
Adrien just stared at Marinette in disbelief. His eyes wide, he did not know how to process this information.
Marinette continued "Hawkmoth was willing to give the Miraculous back, and wants to make amends for his actions." She finished slowly, eyes wide with the realisation of what this meant.
Adrien suddenly wrapped his arms around Marinette in excitement. "Does this mean it's over? Finally over?" His eyes wide, smiling broadly down to her.
"I think so, yes" Marinette was still processing everything that had been said to her.
The blonde placed his lips against Marinette's deliberately, cupping her face and holding her close. Taking her thoughts away in a loving celebration at the amazing news he had just had. Getting lost in each other, relief flowing through them at the prospect of being able to just be together, happy, no Akumas, no threats, just them.
Gabriel stepped out of his office, having given up his Miraculous, he found he did not know what to do first.
'Should I go and see Adrien? No he needs his rest...Should I eat?' He pondered.
Walking into the kitchen, the room was dimly lit by the open refrigerator. No other light was on, he could see the silhouette of Nathalie putting a carton back into the open door and shutting it. He watched her tilt her head back and take a sip from her glass. One arm still in a support after the accident yesterday. Gabriel had given her a room to use while she was working, and knew she was using it, in case she was needed.
"Good evening Nathalie," Gabriel said softly with a gentle smile. This startled her and she knocked over her glass on the counter. Not expecting him to venture out of his office. Gabriel flicked on the switch and everything was brightly lit, a drastic contrast to the darkness the kitchen had been in before.
"Oh typical," she clumsily tried to mop up the liquid with her free hand as Gabriel came over to help her.
"Let me do that," he took the dish cloth out of her hand and grabbed the kitchen towel and effortlessly cleaned up the kitchen work top.
"Thank you," she sighed with a pained expression on her face. "I needed some pain killers...sorry."
"Why are you apologising?" He asked with a chuckle. "I startled you," he looked at her smiling while he was drying the work top, "My apologies for causing you to jump."
"Not a problem," she replied, shyly smiling down looking at her supported arm. Still getting used to this new style Gabriel Agreste.
"I've given up my Miraculous," Gabriel stated as his hand came into her gaze, gently placing it on hers. "I will be handing everything else over tomorrow."
Nathalie was speechless, wide eyed looking at him with relief. "I am so happy you have," she sighed contentedly.
With out warning she closed the distance between them, landing her lips on his and steadying herself by clutching his shoulder with her free hand. Gabriel was taken by surprise, but quickly reciprocated her kiss by winding his arms around her. They stayed like this for a time, seemingly getting lost in the shared moment.
"I'm sorry," Nathalie mumbled as she pulled away, but before she could get too far, Gabriel had embraced her, pulling her back into his arms. Placing his lips to hers gently once more.
