Reina Todoroki: Daughter Of Ice And Fire Chapter 1
Today is the big day. The day Reina has been preparing to reach for a decade. Attendance at the top Hero Academy in Japan.
UA High School.
One problem. Reina has to get out of bed to start with.
Reina wakes up in bed to the usual alarm blaring loudly beside her head in the morning. Her hand bangs around tiredly until she finally finds the off switch. Afterward she takes a moment to actually wake up. Crawling out of the covers Reina yawns, releasing a small painfilled groan as a familiar soreness spreads through certain parts of her body. Still Reina grits her teeth at the pain as she stands.
Keeping right on schedule Reina quickly changes out of her pajamas and into some sweats in order to proceed with her regular morning workout. As Reina is about to turn the corner towards the training room Reina freezes, staying hidden behind the wall. The reason for her sudden shy apprehensiveness is that her father, Endeavor, is approaching from an opposite corridor. Endeavor is wearing his full hero costume as he leaves for his agency. Endeavor takes no notice of his youngest daughter. Reina shrinks backward away from her father's intimidating aura when he's in his full hero exterior. Known for his personas notorious aggression directed at any villain that accidentally or intentionally is unfortunate enough to get in his way. Only when Reina is certain that her father is out of sight, heading off in a different direction for the front gates of the estate does she continue on.
In the training room Reina immediately jumps into her normal stretches and regiment combinations that her father has drilled into her. He's made it very clear that she is not to falter in any of them or else there will be severe consequences. Any signs of laziness, no matter how tiny, won't be tolerated.
Reina is all too aware from past experience what that implies.
During the whole hour she is doing this Reina is pushing through the lingering pain felt from the harsh training that Endeavor put her through yesterday and every day in the weeks since the Recommendation Entrance Exam. Being admitted into UA on a top hero's recommendation, Endeavors means she hadn't been required to commence with the normal Entrance Exam that most hopefuls commence with in order to have a chance to attend UA. That said it was still necessary for her to go along with the Recommendation Entrance Exam in order for the teachers there to decide if she actually deserves to join the freshman class. No surprise Reina made passed the interview and written exams with flying colors. But it was the practical exam where a major problem arose.
Being strong, fierce, and fearsome does not come naturally to her like it does Endeavor. During the obstacle course arranged during the practical it showed. She remains a heavy work in progress even at this age. So he's drilled an enormous amount of firm and strict structure into her routines.
Which resulted in her coming in second, her time merely a couple of seconds behind the number 1 contender.
Inasa Yoarashi who possesses a Quirk called Whirlwind.
Both of them are powerful, placing really high easily beating UA's recorded top times. Yet Reina came in 2nd behind him. She earned a lot of compliments on that court. Unfortunately the individuals whose praise she truly desired are either those she is forbidden contact with or continues to find fault with her. It's useless to disagree with his perspective, too. One of the things Reina hates most of all is conflict despite most of it being over her from different angles filled with concern and worry. So she avoids it by to the contrary staying silent or agreeing with him.
The latter is not pleased. Approval is not something he's known to be generous with towards anyone including his own family.
Reina earned harsh beratement from her father's wrath for failing so badly in his eyes. Endeavor to punish her with nonstop harsher training, not letting her rest for days at a time until she literally drops from fatigue, refusing to provide her any slack. 2nd place for her isn't good enough and never will be. So has to be on the top and surpass All Might as the #1 Hero in Japan. 2nd place, simply mentioning it infuriates him to no end in dissatisfaction. Reminds him of all he's accomplished and failed to do in his career. Endeavor makes a point to never let her forget it, turning it into a top priority. Far from difficult to do so under the receiving end of his fury. There's so much pressure in this responsibility placed on her shoulders. Endeavor can care less, persisting with forcing his own goals and ambitions on her. She is his precious masterpiece. His greatest triumph. She can be nothing more than that.
Believe it or not, his anger is nothing in comparison to what Reina underwent by her mother's own hands.
Once done with her normal morning workouts Reina makes her way to the bath for a good soak before heading off to UA High School. The warm water always brings great relief to her aching muscles and bones. She especially needs it now. Reina doesn't want to show any signs of this in class. It would bring shame to the Todoroki name should anyone discover what goes on in this household.
As Reina is running a brush over the long strands of her hair her gaze is drawn over to her reflection on the water's surface.
In doing so it's like Reina is staring at a reflection of her mother looking back at her.
Very much like her personality Reina has inherited many features from her mother along with hair, left eye, and Ice Quirk. But the Fire Quirk, split right side of her hair, and right eye is her fathers. In fact the shape of her eyes is completely Endeavors.
Something Rei couldn't stand and caused her to finally snap under the neglect and abuse Endeavor had inflicted on her over the years.
Pain that had been redirected onto her youngest child.
In an instant the image changes entirely into her mothers. The woman's face taking on a crazed, terrified, and desperate expression that Reina recalls all too well. All at once Reina can literally feel a pair of phantom hands encircle her neck, pressing down hard trying to choke the life out of her.
"Having you was a mistake! I should never have given birth to you!"
Seconds later Reina felt boiling hot water poured over the right side of her face, a child's shrieks filling her ears.
Reina gasps for air, leaning over the side of the bath, pressing a hand to her throat and heart hammering in her chest.
Reina is broken out of those painful memories upon hearing a knock on the bathroom door, disturbing her thoughts. Reina doesn't need to raise her head to know who it is for it is easy to tell by their voice. Her elder sister Fuyumi has stopped by as she is about to leave for work at an elementary school, reminding her that she has to leave soon or else she's going to be late on the first day.
Reina takes a moment to gather herself before exiting the bath. She quickly dresses into her brand new school uniform, backpack flung over her shoulders. Afterward Reina then departs from the Todoroki estate.
Sitting on a train she's taking to UA High School Reina muses over what just occurred.
That dreadful day when she was five years old was the last time Reina ever saw her mother.
Realizing what she had done Rei broke free of her crazed state apologizing over and over in tears while trying to fix the burn with her ice.
Endeavor was beyond furious with what Rei had done. He put Rei in a hospital where she remains to this very day. Her mental state judged too damaged to be anywhere near Reina. Because of this Endeavor has never allowed any sort of contact to be between mother and daughter. No matter how much Reina pleaded with him Endeavor constantly stood firm. Rei basically is absent, not a part of her life.
Despite Rei's actions towards her Reina had forgiven her mother long ago. Which is the reason why she was so insistent on seeing her again. To be able to tell her in person. She's just never got the chance to. Still Rei has ways of accompanying her wherever she travels.

Speaking of that side…
Scrutinizing her face in the see-through panel glass on the train Reina lightly strokes her fingertips over the burn scar over her left eye and upper cheek. The ever lingering mark that returns her to the horrible experience in that incident each time she looks at it.
Following it Reina the trauma has unfortunately made her afraid of her own fire which shows in her reluctance to use it on combat. She wishes to comply with her father's orders and use it the way he wants her to, but Rei's memory is holding her back big time. Reina can't help but believe that perhaps if she doesn't use her father's Quirk that there's a chance to a start where Rei can look at her without fear. And be reunited together again.
Reina feels so torn, tugged from both ends of the string. Ultimately she'd rather be in a situation where she meets both of their separate standards and expectations and not simply one. It often leaves her to secretly despair.

Here's Reina's stop as the train pulls into the station. She's finally attending UA. Here she has so many choices to make. Is she going to become the image of a hero Endeavor has been molding her into since she was a small child or is it just not her path? Is she really cut out to be a hero?
The sliding doors on the train open. One by one the passengers departing here leave with others entering. Reina puts one foot in front of the other towards whatever the future has in store for her.
This is Reina's beginning into a greater path however it may lead her.

I don't know about the rest of you, but I was in shock and disbelief when I learned about Chadwick's recent passing. It's a really big tragedy for both his family and fans. He will be missed dearly.
At last! At long last! The 100th story is finally created! Ah! I'm so happy and proud with myself. The goal has been reached, but that doesn't mean I'm not opened to continuing to receive other story suggestions in the future. I'll always be open to them. Watching Justice League: Dark Apokolips gave me a certain idea. What do you guys think of me combining my characters Audrina from Heart Of Atlantis and Danika from this one once we get to this new movie?
Also, I still haven't figured out what Danika's superhero name should be. I really need this figured out because the following chapter after this one will be where her superhero name is chosen for this story. The choices are now down to Tempest and Twilight.

I've been meaning to get back to this one for a while now and only now I've managed to find time and inspiration for it. I'm very satisfied and happy about it. Apologies for it taking so long. I've been debating on how to go about it for a while and finally figured it out.
Right now during this epidemic with the coronavirus that's impacting every nation in the entire world we really do need find whatever sources we possibly can in order to lighten our spirits. Especially those who are unfortunately stuck sick or those locked in self isolation in order to prevent both contraction and spread of the illness. For those of us who have the abilities to do this we have a duty to keep up morale and that's exactly what I wholeheartedly desire these new stories and updates concocted during this time do for you.

I have other grand news! I was a patron at New York Comic Con 2019! Ah! I'd been dying to go for years and now I had the opportunity. The Jokers from Impractical Jokers have been here along with Tom Hiddleston and so many others. Over those few days I actually got my picture taken with a couple of other actors/actresses and some really great panels. It really is so exciting there. This is an opportunity of a lifetime so there's no way in hell that I was going to waste a single second of it. No one ever should with something like this. Ever! ;D
For future preferences I highly recommend that you all keep an eye out for when tickets for New York Comic Con are available for purchase again for next year. This is a huge event and you should jump on it whenever you have the chance. Unfortunately this year it appears like Comic Con might be skipped not just in New York, but also in all it's regular places during the course of scheduled events. I think we all know the reason for it is plain as day.
The coronavirus.
Can't exactly blame with how dreadful things are getting in escalation and the fact that places like the Javits Center in New York have been temporarily converted into makeshift hospitals in order to deal with the overflow of people contracting infections from this rapidly spreading virus that might as well be called a plague at this point. Let's keep fingers crossed that an aim is to have this pass us before then so things can get back on track. If it is then New York Comic Con might be exactly what people need in order to lighten their spirits after all this darkness. Stay safe everyone and long to eventually see you there.
