"Kagome, can you take the trash out?"
Eyeing the clock, it was nearly nine. Not ready to fall asleep, she rolled off her bed. "Yeah, I'll get it." Down the stairs, into the kitchen, Kagome pulled the trash from the pantry and walked by her brother. As if by habit, her hand tussled his hair, and she pulled away just before he could knock her hand away.
"Don't you ever get tired of messing my hair up?"
"Nah, I'll never get tired of messing with you."
His eyes followed her outside before he rolled them at the sound of the door shutting.
In the late-night, mom and Souta are rarely asleep before ten. Somehow, this family has become accustomed to late nights. Grandpa goes to sleep at nine, so all chores need to be done before then. It's not just my family, though. The Hinata family next door too. They stay up late, usually waiting...
Chains rattling down the street caught her ears, and she turned and watched a shadowy figure as he made his way, swaying on his bike, up the street. Pulling the trash can out to the road, she watched him ride his bike past her and inside the gate. He looked lost in thought. She wondered if he'd even seen her standing there. "How was practice?" Why did she speak out to him?! Her heart skipped a beat when he turned around and met her eyes. A year she'd lived here, and she'd never so much as spoken to him, now... what? Striking up a conversation like they were friends?
"Practice?"
"V-volleyball practice, you're always out late practicing, but this week is Obon...so don't overwork yourself."
He nodded, though, he didn't seem to know what else to say. Finally, he managed to speak. "You play Volleyball?"
"No, I'm in Archery. I mean, I did play in Junior High, but that was nothing more than gym class. Compulsory, you know?"
"Ah... wait...wait! Are you a student at Karasuno too?!"
He didn't notice. This carrot top is so focused on Volleyball that unless it's got something to do with the sport, he's completely oblivious. How could he have never noticed? No, it shouldn't bother me. I'm his neighbor, so... this isn't a problem.
"Yeah, I'm a second year."
"S-SENPAI!"
"What's all the yelling for?! Mama said to come inside! Grandpa wants to turn in for the night, and you're too loud!"
Kagome glared over her shoulder, "don't scold me for being loud while yelling out the door, Souta!" Her brother stuck his tongue out and then ducked his head back inside. Though, she missed it when he pushed the curtain aside and peeked out at her. Her attention back on the furiously blushing first year in front of her. "Are you going to continue practicing early in the morning?"
Fiddling with his fingers, he looked down and shook his head, "they locked the Volleyball club room. I have my ball, though, so I might practice during my breaks."
"For me, I'll continue practicing Archery during Obon. It's how I will show my respect and thanks to my ancestors and those who continue watching over me. All that they've done for me, all that I am today, I want them to see me properly."
He gave a small smile, his eyes sparkling, "I... me too. I want to show the me that I am now, and every year, I want to show off how I've grown! The higher I get, the further I fly!"
'That's right, this one, he flies. I heard rumors of a short decoy and middle blocker that could fly. I wonder how high his wings can carry him. Maybe... maybe I'll come to watch him play sometime.' Holding her hand out, she watched him stare at it curiously before he realized what she was waiting for and took it tightly in his, "Higurashi, Kagome, next time you practice, I'll swing by. I want...to see you fly..."

"You know, you're probably the first girl he's ever spoken to outside of school."
"Don't be weird,"
"Me?" Souta leaned against his sister's door, "this is the whole "girl next door" scenario. You know, the female archetype that denotes a girl who appeals to the modern-day gender norms. With the allure of purity, charm, simplicity, and purity, with a main male protagonist who's a... simp...for lack of better words."
'A simp? Where is he picking these terms up from?!' Bringing a hand up, she swatted her brother upside the back of his head, "go get ready for bed, and act a bit more like thirteen!"
He scampered off but was laughing all the while.
Sighing, she shut her door and fell backward on her bed. "Inuyasha's personality must have rubbed off on him more than I thought."
As a twelve-year-old, Souta grew up with only one real male idol. Inuyasha was bold, strong, rude, sensitive, innocent, and protective, all rolled into one steadfast Demon. Someone he wanted to be like. Since dad died while Souta was a baby, it's no surprise that he'd take to Inuyasha so readily; I just wish he had taken on less of his rougher traits and more of his softer ones. Though, I do think it's cool that he's growing his hair out. In years to come, I wonder what kind of person he'll be.
The clock on her desk was reading twenty till ten. She didn't have morning practice, and she was sure that her neighbor would be sleeping at least another hour before waking her up. Not able to keep her eyes open any longer, she decided to call it a night. Turning the light off, rolling over in her bed as she pulled the blanket tightly around her.
'That's right, Obon, I should say something, right?' Closing her eyes, she whispered into the darkness, "it's been a while since the last time I saw you guys; I know for me it's been far less time than it has for you. In five hundred years, a lot can change, but I'm still the same, so no worries here. I want to know about you guys, how you've lived till now. The families you made, the children you had, I want to know how you transitioned throughout time, but I can wait. I'll find out someday. Until then, I'm going to work hard, the way I am now. I'm in my second year of high school; I'm sure that means nothing to you guys, but after all my adventures, I somehow made it through my high school exams, and I'm here. I'm here! So... watch over me... I'll make you all proud, one step at a time."

Me: Here is chapter two. It's not much in the way of detail, but it gives an opening for Kagome, and I had no intention of rushing romance anyways. So hopefully you guys all enjoyed this second chapter.
