"You look shattered baby" Matt said closing the door behind their friends. It had been a long day getting most of what they'd need from the apartment into the new house, the young couple and their friend working tirelessly all day but they'd managed it, between the new furniture that had been delivered that morning, multiple trips from him and Kelly backwards and forwards to the apartment to gather their bed, kitchen, and some wardrobe essentials the couple were ready for their first night in what was about to become their first family home. Gabby had struggled a few times during the day, the pregnant woman trying her best to mask the discomfort she was feeling but Matt had seen straight through it, as had Kelly, Kidd and Shay. The three of them ordering her more than once to sit down and take five, much to her annoyance.
"Why don't you go have a bath and I'll sort us some dinner." He wrapped his arms around her, hugging her against his body as he placed a soft kiss to the side of her head.
"You sure?" she questioned, melting into his embrace.
"Yeah, go" he ordered, landing one last kiss to her head before pushing her gently in the direction of the stairs.
Gabby moved upstairs her aching body groaning at the upwards movement, she'd been getting sharp stabbing pains all day but she had just put them down to stretching pains, after all at nineteen, almost twenty weeks pregnant her body was holding a lot more weight then her small frame was used to. Their babies getting bigger and bigger by the day, the normal aches and pains of pregnancy amplified by the multiple aspect. Where as most woman were still relatively small at this stage, Gabby couldn't help think she looked similar to that of a beached whale, her prominent bump sticking out underneath all of her clothing. And along with the sheer size of her growing bump, her ankles had decided to start to swell over the past few days, something she put down to the lack of rest she had been getting. The slightly warmer weather outside not helping matters much, for as cold as the winter had been spring seemed to be warming up very quickly as they approached the end of March.
Getting to the top of the stairs took her almost five minutes, the woman having to stop momentarily every few steps, her energy levels quickly dispersing the further up she went, walking around to the master room she couldn't help but smile when she spotted their bed, Matt having not only built it with the help of Kelly but having already made it up. The man having put her favorite sheets on, the bed in front of her already turned down ready for them to collapse into after their dinner. Although they were eating later than they usual would have recently she knew she needed to have something, if anything for the benefit of the little boy and girl she was currently growing. Pulling her shirt from her body and chucking it on to the chair nearby, she started moving around the room in search of some clothes to wear once she'd bathed. The woman heading straight for her husbands dresser, pulling out one of his faded CFD shirts and a pair of his boxers before heading down the hallway to the family bath, she could use the bathroom attached to their room but she really wanted to try out the huge tub in here, it being a lot bigger than the one in their own bathroom.
Sitting down on the side of the bath she turned on the facet, reaching across to the shelf and pulling some of the lavender bath salts down, tipping a generous amount as she took in the sweet aroma filling her nostrils. It was something she'd done a lot, soaking after a long day in these baths salts, the aroma not only calming and relaxing her, but also the babies, both of them currently bouncing around in her belly. The paramedic resting her hand on her belly, "yeah I know, you like bath time, Momma's working on it." Her soft voice eliciting kicks to come from what she assumed were both babies considering they hit both sides of her rib cage at once. "Ouch, ok, ok, we're getting in" she chuckled turning of the facet and stepping in carefully. Sinking down slowly into the warm water, allowing the bubbles to surround her, as she lay back against the side.
Gabby lay there for a little while, the mother to be singing softly to her bump, her hand tracing over it as the babies kicked at her. The moment completely calming her, and she had to admit the bath was defiantly doing wonders for her aching body, the longer she lay there the less tense her muscles felt and the less pain she was feeling in her side. After half an hour she decided it was probably time to get out considering Matt was probably almost finished with their dinner, if the smells coming from the kitchen were any indication, pushing herself up to sitting she lent forwards gently, pulling the plug before climbing out. Her feet hitting the soft rug, a small satisfied groan leaving her lips as she felt just how soft the new piece of furnishing was, they'd been and picked it out just under a week ago, Gabby insisting that they try to get as much new stuff for their home as possible, the woman saying it would be good to replace it all now before the babies sucked all their money away, something to which Matt had readily agreed. Reaching out for her towel another sharp pain cursed through her body, the paramedic gasping slightly as she grabbed hold of the towel rail, but for as quickly as it had come on it was gone. Gabby silently hoping that with some food and a decent nights sleep it would be gone by the morning. Unfortunately that wasn't going to be as she felt another sharp pain shoot across her side as she wrapped her towel around her body, this one not dispersing, instead it brought her to her knees, the pain unbearable as she clutched tightly to her side, the woman reaching up and pulling the many bottles above her head down knowing there was no other way of alerting her husband to her need for him, the loud crash sounding like it was miles away as blackness took over her.
"Matt look!" Kelly said, fear spreading across his face, Casey following his gaze to the pool of blood spreading around Gabby's thighs.
"Oh my god!" Matt said his voice wavering. "Shay!"
"What?" The blonde said running back to the bathroom.
"She's bleeding."
"What, where?" Her eyes traced her friends body looking for the cause of the blood before noticing the pool of blood the others were indicating too. "Oh my God! Casey move."
Matt looked at her blankly, the man seemingly frozen with fear.
"Casey man move!" Shay said again, placing her hand on his shoulder his gaze flicking up to her as she nodded her head forwards indicating that she needed to get through. Matt standing up slowly and stepping out of the way, allowing Shay and Stella through. The two woman assessing the paramedics body while they waited for the ambulance to arrive.
Matt and Kelly watched on in silence as they worked, neither one of them knowing what to say or do. Their entire focus on the women in front of them. Gabby still unconscious and Shay and Stella doing everything they could to find the source of her bleeding.
"Guys I think the EMTs are here" Kelly said, sirens breaking through the panicked silence in the house.
"Kelly go!" Shay shouted urging the man to go let them in.
It wasn't long before the paramedics had got her strapped to a back board and where heading out towards the ambulance. Matt tossed his keys to Kelly as he followed them out.
"Can you lock up and bring my truck" he asked, clutching the bag of clothes Shay had thrown together.
"We'll meet you there."
With that Matt was in the back of the ambulance, the three friends watching as the back doors closed and it sped off down the street.
Matt paced up and down the waiting room, the man desperately trying to do anything and everything to focus his mind, the unknown of the situation crushing him as his feet moved up and down the small patch of carpet. As soon as they'd arrived nurses and doctors had flooded into the ER, pushing Matt out of the room and telling him they needed the space to work. The man getting more and more anxious the longer he went with no news. This couldn't be happening, everything was going fine, they couldn't lose them now. Oh god what if they lost them? Matt's brain was working over time, hundreds of different reasons cursing through his head of what could have caused his wife to pass out, and more importantly why she hadn't regained consciousness. Why was she bleeding? Had she hit her stomach?
"Matt?" His voice snapped him out of his head, looking up to find himself face to face with the man.
"Hey Antonio."
"What happened?"
"I don't know. She complained of some pains early we just thought they were stretching pains, I told her to take a bath while I sorted dinner and then there was a huge bang. She's not woken up, or she hadn't in the ambulance. I'm not sure what's going on but she was bleeding." The minute he voiced it out loud the tears that he'd been holding back broke free, the salty water streaming down his face as his body collapsed into a near by chair.
"I can't lose them Antonio. We can't lose them."
"I know Matt, it'll be ok. There all going to be ok." He placed his hand reassuringly on to Casey's shoulder squeezing gently. The younger man seemingly broken in front of him.
Within half an hour of Antonio's arrival the two men were joined by not only Severide, Kidd and Shay but the chief and some of the firehouse. Matt assuming one of the guys had called them on their way here, the man not having the energy to ask but silently thankful that they were all here.
Casey continued to pace up and down the hallway occasionally glancing towards the clock on the wall, the man feeling like time had stood still in the hour since he'd found his wife collapsed in their bathroom. A million different things going through his mind as he blocked out all the noise around him, the man completely focused on why they were here, the image of the blood soaking his wife's thighs imprinted in his mind. The fear of what that blood could mean paralyzing him, his chest feeling like someone was baring down on it, his breaths choppy and labored.
"Family of Gabriela Casey?"
"Yes" Matt said, his head snapping up as his eyes landed on an unfamiliar doctor. "Where's Dr Manning?" he asked the moment his eyes locked with the male doctor in front of him.
"She's been paged, she's on her way" he assured him.
"My wife, the babies?"
"They are fine, they are all fine. We have found the source of Mrs Casey's pain and her bleeding and she is awake. We think the overwhelming pain caused her to black out but everything is fine and with a little bit of time she'll be right as rain."
"Oh thank god" he sighed, his head flopping forwards as the weight of his words swept over him, all the fear, all the scenarios he'd been imaging in his mind slowly lifting as he draw in long deep breaths. "Can I see her?"
"Of course" the doctor said leading him down the hallway and through the double doors. Matt not saying a word to anyone as his feet carried him purely on instinct alone. "She's just in here, please remember she needs her rest, we'll be in to discuss her condition as soon as Dr Manning arrives."
"Condition?" Matt said, his slightly louder voice catching them both of guard, "but you just said... I thought you said she was ok?"
"And she is, and she will make a full recovery but there are a few things we need to discuss."
Matt gave a short nod before sliding the door to his wife's room open, his eyes scanning her body as he walked closer to her. "You ok?" he asked, her brown eyes focused on his tense body.
"I'm good" she smiled "are you?"
"I'm better now I can see you're awake. God Gabby you scared the hell out of me."
"I'm sorry" she whispered, pulling him down to sit next to her on the bed. Matt's body resting against the back of her hospital bed as she shuffled herself under his outstretched arm and into his side.
"What happened?"
"I'm not really sure, I got out the bath and had that pain again and then next thing I knew I was here."
Matt placed soft kisses on her head, the firefighter feeling his body relax the longer they sat there. The more they spoke the more he realized she really was ok, and the close position they'd got into on the bed meant that Matt could keep a hand stroking over not only his wife's shoulders but he could keep a hand rested against her bump, their unborn twins moving underneath his hand as he did. The motion calming both the expectant parents.
It took a short while for Dr Manning to arrive at the hospital, Gabby falling asleep shortly after Matt had positioned himself on the bed, the man grateful for the seemingly peaceful sleep his wife was currently in, knowing more than most just how restless her nights had been of late. He found himself just watching her sleep while they lay there in the quietness, Matt admiring her sleeping form as she clung to him in a similar way to she did every time they slept. He was so lost in watching the gentle rise and fall of her chest that he didn't even register the door opening, Dr Manning having to say his name a few times before he registered her presence.
"Sorry" he said lifting his head up as her gentle voice filled his ears, the man smiling softly when he realized who was stood there.
"Sorry Matt, I didn't mean to make you jump."
"No, no, it's fine. I was just..." his voice trailed off as he looked back down at his sleeping wife. "Is everything ok?"
"Yes Matt everything's fine, I need to do a quick ultrasound of my own before talking with you guys, but I can let her sleep a little longer if you like?"
Casey nodded, "That would be great, she's not being sleeping to well so I don't want to disturb her if we can help it."
"Sure, I'll pop back in half hour or so and then we can do the ultrasound and talk ok?"
"Thanks Doc."
"No worries" she smiled softly, heading towards the door. Turning the lights down slightly as she left, Matt thankful for the lower lighting.
Dr Manning moved the wand around Gabby's belly, the screen immediately focusing in on their babies, soft smiles resting on both the parents faces as they watched them bounce around. The room was filled with a nervous quiet as the doctor worked, getting all the pictures and measurements she needed before she spoke with the couple. Matt having informed Gabby of what was going to happen when she woke up ten minutes ago, the paramedic having managed to get a couple of hours of rest before he had gently pulled her from her slumber.
"So everything looks good from the babies point of view, I do however have a diagnosis for you Gabby."
Gabby's eyes moved to her husband, the worried look is his eyes quickly morphing into one of support and comfort. "It's ok" he whispered against her head kissing her softly.
"Gabby have you ever been told you have ovarian cysts?"
"No" she said, shaking her head. "Is that what's been causing my pain?"
"It is" Dr Manning confirmed "I'm afraid one of them has ruptured and that's what caused you to pass out and the bleeding to happen. Now it's nothing to worry about" she continued when she saw the uncertain looks resting on the faces opposite her, "but we will be admitting you for a short while, where the cyst has burst you are at risk of infection so we will need to keep a close eye on you, on all three of you."
"It can hurt the babies?" Gabby asked suddenly more fearful than she had been moments ago.
"Yes and no, the cyst itself is not an issue, neither is the fact it's burst, the issue would only affect the babies if you start to develop an infection which is why we will be admitting you and starting you on a high dose of broad antibiotics. The biggest risk we are facing is that the bleeding you've already experienced could get worse, indicating that you're bleeding internally, if that happens we will possibly have to go in via a laparoscopy and deal with that. Obviously we are trying to avoid that at all costs because of the risks to the babies, but it's currently not something we can rule out. Our other biggest issue is that the cyst rupturing, when a cyst is left untreated like yours has it can become filled with more and more fluid until there isn't any room left for it to grow, that's when it bursts, but in doing so it will have released the toxins from inside it into your body and you are at risk of that infection I mentioned, we will do everything in our power to prevent that from happening but I need to make you aware that things could get worse before they get better."
"What are the chances of those things happening?" Gabby asked, the woman grabbing out for Matt's hand. Her nervous energy flowing off her in waves.
"At the moment everything looks good, but I can't say what will happen. It could take a few hours or more before we know if those things are more likely to happen or not."
"So it's a waiting game" Matt asked, his voice croaky from lack of use, the man never losing the fearful look in his eye."
"I'm afraid so" Dr Manning said sympathetically. "Now we're going to get you moved up to the ward soon, but the most important thing for you to do at the moment is rest ok?"
"How long will I be here for?" Gabby asked.
"Initially I'm going to say about a week, we need to make sure all of the gunk and bad stuff has left your system before I can even think about letting you home. But I'm hoping it won't be much longer than that. But while you're here Gabby, you're on bed rest. Only reason you get out of that bed is for the toilet ok."
"Ok" Gabby agreed, although she was anything but happy about it. Something Matt could sense all to well, his wife's pout giving her away. The couple said their thanks to the doctor as she left the room. Leaving the couple alone to digest everything they had just been told.
"You ok?" Matt asked, when his wife had yet to say anything.
"Yeah, I'm ok." Gabby said, flashing him a small smile, a smile that didn't quite reach her eyes. The husband being able to sense her uneasiness and uncertainty, he wrapped his arms around her, holding her head close to his chest as he whispered soothing words into her ear. The woman's body beginning to shake slowly as the tears brimming at the edge of her eyes flowed over into huge body sobs, the reality of the situation hitting her fall force. Tonight should have been different, tonight should have seen them enjoying their new home together, she should be curled up on the couch with her husband, half watching some game on the TV while the lost themselves in each other. Not in a sterile hospital room, her body covered by this thin, itchy gown. She had really thought the pains where just all normal parts of her pregnancy, never had it crossed her mind that they could have been something else. Maybe if she'd just given Dr Manning a call earlier she'd have been able to prevent the cyst bursting, maybe she wouldn't always think of this moment when they thought of the night they moved into their home.
"Hey, hey" Matt said as her body shook more and more in his arms, "It's ok, you're all ok."
"I'm sorry" she murmured.
"What? What for?"
"This shouldn't be how we remember moving into our family home."
"Oh baby, this isn't your fault. You didn't know what was happening, we both just assumed you'd done too much, you probably did too much." He kissed her head softly, strengthening his hold on her, stroking his hand up and down her back, doing everything he could to keep her calm, knowing that allowing her to be this worked up wasn't good for either her or the babies. "When they move you to your room, I'll get Stella and Shay to sit with you while I go get some bits from home ok, make the room more homely?"
"I'd like that, can you bring my blanket?"
"Of course baby, lets write a list of what you want and need and I'll get it all sorted."
Matt pulled his phone out of his pocket, opening up a blank notes page before handing it to his wife, "here you get started, I'm going to update the guys."
"Ok" she said, leaning up to kiss him gently. "Don't be too long" she said rather vulnerably.
Matt placed one last kiss to her head before leaving the room, pulling the door up behind him, the man rolling out his aching limbs, the position he'd been perched in since getting here causing him some major knots along his neck and shoulders. Heading through the busy ER department, his feet quickly taking him in the direction of the waiting area, the man knowing from the last view he got of the room a lot of of their fifty one family were sat there.
Severide spotted him first, the man quickly standing up as his friend rounded the corner. "How are they?"
"They're good, they're all good. Gabby's got to stay for a little bit, they are admitting her but she'll be ok."
"What happened?" Shay asked, the blonde clearly concerned for her best friend.
"She has a ovarian cyst, well had, I should say. It ruptured and that's why she was bleeding and why she was in so much pain."
"Oh my god" Shay said, the paramedic clearly knowing more about the severity of the situation than anyone else in the room, the color draining out of her face quicker than Matt thought possible. "Do they... are they... will they have to operate?"
"What?" Kelly said his head pinging backwards and forwards between the two blondes. Matt shaking his head vigorously.
"Not at the moment no, she'll be here for at least a week but they are hoping to just treat her with antibiotics and get her home. They need to keep a close eye on her but we just have to take every day as it comes for now. And pray that an infection doesn't appear and she doesn't bleed into her stomach anymore than she already had."
"And the babies?" Stella asked, the woman suddenly finding her voice.
"They are fine, and as long as the bleeding stops and they keep any infection at bay they'll be absolutely fine."
Everyone in the waiting room visibly released their batted breath, some of them unaware they'd even been holding it until the moment they felt the tension within the room fade. Dawson wasn't completely out of the woods yet but she was in the right place and if anything changed they all knew the doctors here at med would do everything within their power to get all three Casey's through it. Dr Manning was one of the best and the fact she alone was Gabby's doctor gave them all hope.
Matt spent a few minutes more updating everyone on the situation before catching his Chiefs eye, the young Captain nodding his head to the side, Boden understanding the silent indication of him needing a word followed him towards the entrance of the ER, the two of them walking in silence until they found a quiet corner.
"Chief I know this is short notice but.."
"Casey, you stay with your family" Boden said cutting him off, already well aware that he'd be done his Captain for the next few shifts at least, "You need to be here, Dawson needs you. I'll put in a request for cover for you and let head quarters know the situation, it won't be a problem."
"Thanks Chief" Matt smiled gratefully, the young Captain knowing that he'd had more time of than usually allowed over the past year. The man knowing that if it hadn't been for the chief it was something that could have found him in a disciplinary hearing. Now more than ever Casey was grateful for the amazing house and family he and Gabby had at fifty one, the firefighter knowing they would never have gotten through everything thrown at them last year without their support. The support of the chief alone had been overwhelming, but everyone at fifty one had pulled together throughout everything, Gabby being ill, her attack and the breakdown that followed. They'd been right there for everything and anything the couple had needed and it was something Matt wasn't sure they could ever repay.
"Don't mention it, I'm just glad they are all ok. You take your time and when your ready your job will be waiting." The chief spoke strongly, gripping his Captains shoulder firmly.
The two man returning to the waiting room together, everyone wanting to wait until Dawson was moved upstairs. The conversation around the room halting as the two men entered the room, Matt heading for both Shay and Stella first.
"Hey guys" he spoke softly, the two women looking up towards him from their seated position. "Can you do me a favor?"
"Sure Casey?" Stella replied in a questioning tone.
"Can you sit with Gabby for a while once they've moved her?"
"Yea of course."
"Thanks guys." He flashed them a warm smile before turning to Kelly, "Can you come with me?"
"Sure. Where we going?" Kelly asked pushing himself up out of his seat.
"No where just yet, but I'm going to head home for a little while and grab us some stuff. Just a few things to get us through, Gabby's making a list right now."
Kelly rolled his eyes at the last bit, "Case, you know she's going to have you bring everything but the kitchen sink?" he joked.
"No she won't." Casey snapped slightly, the pressure of the night not putting him in any mood for Severides teasing. "It'll be quicker with two of us though. Plus I can give you the spare house key in case we need anything else. And you guys are going to need a car to get home, I know you all brought my truck over."
"Yeah no worries, just let me know when we're leaving."
"Thanks Kel" Matt said, turning and heading back towards his wife's room.
It was just over an hour before they had a room ready for Gabby, the woman having completed her rather long list of homely requests by the time Matt had got back. The two of them resuming their previous position of Matt perched on the edge of the bed while she cuddled into his side, the pregnant lady soon fast asleep against her husbands chest.
Stepping out of the shower Matt wrapped his towel around his waist, the man padding bare footed through the en-suite and out into their bedroom. Heading for his dresser he pulled out a pair of sweats and t-shirt before drying himself off. His shower had been quick just long enough to wash away the days worth of work he'd done in the house, the husband desperate to get back to the hospital and back to his wife. It had been two days since she'd been admitted and he'd only left her today because she'd pretty much kicked him out. His wife remembering late last night that the had some stuff being delivered in the morning, and insisting that Matt returned home to receive it.
"I'll be fine Matt" She moaned, as he once again tried to make an argument for rearranging the delivery. "Plus you can get the counters sorted while you're there and I'll get Stella or Shay to come sit with me, please babe there's no point in us both being coped up here all the time. Use the freedom of not having me there to get the work done and you never know it may be completed by the time these two actually arrive." She'd teased, his wife having made a few playful digs at him over the past few days about his slow pace of getting everything ready.
"Ok" he'd agreed reluctantly, the man knowing better than to keep arguing. His wife had a fair point, she was already twenty weeks pregnant and despite a good start on the house everything had come to a halt when she had collapsed and been admitted to hospital, Matt only having left the first night to grab them both some stuff. The young man returning to the hospital two hours after he left with her laptop, some books, her blanket and what looked like the entirety of his shirt drawer. The man telling her, he knew how comfortable she found them and they'd had to be more comfortable than the thin hospital gown she was currently wearing, Gabby immediately changing into one the minute she could. Her attire being something similar everyday since.
His phoning buzzed on the bedside cabinet pulling him out of his head. Looking to see who it was he couldn't help but smile when he saw her face beaming back at him, the man standing and staring at her picture for a few moments while he remembered when he'd snapped it. They'd been at the welfare BBQ last summer, and Gabby had as she always did, been chasing a group of kids round playing games with them and just generally being Gabby, she'd come back to their table sweaty and slightly out of breath about twenty minutes after starting the game, the woman gasping for a drink and that's when he took this picture. Dawson sat holding up her beer a wide grin resting on her face, it wasn't anything special, the picture being one that he could have captured a million times but something about the carefree way she looked in this one made his heart swell. Sliding his finger across the screen his smile only increased when he saw her face pop into his screen, his wife opting to facetime him instead of simply calling.
"Hey" she spoke softly, her own grin spreading across her face when she saw his half naked dress. "Sorry, where you showering?"
"No, it's ok. I just got out, I was just about to get dressed and head back. Everything ok?"
"Yeah it's good." She smiled, resting back onto her pillows, bringing her free hand up and over her head to rest behind her. "I just missed you that was all."
"Yeah?" he said raising his eyebrow, "Well if you hadn't kicked me out for Stella and Shay..." he teased, Gabby scoffing at his playful tone.
"Oh come on, you know it was the right thing to do." She replied, the woman rolling her eyes at him.
"Yes it was, I actually got a lot done." He said, choosing to ignore her eye rolling, knowing that she only did it to get a response from him and he wasn't biting not today. Today had been a good day, he'd finished up the furniture in the babies room, the rocker and changing table coming first thing. Matt setting them up immediately the room looking good before he turned his attention to the kitchen island, sanding the entire thing down before varnishing it and getting it done up the way Gabby had requested. "Do you wanna see?"
"Yes please."
"Ok, let me just put some clothes on and I'll take you through." He said propping his phone up against the lamp so he could still see her and talk with her. Gabby's smile growing as he began to dry himself of. "Like what you see?" he questioned, when he saw her staring.
"Oh very much" she replied.
"Stella and Shay gone?" Matt asked suddenly, realizing he should probably have asked that before he'd started to peel the towel from his body.
"Yeah, they left about half hour ago. Their both doing the bar at Molly's tonight so they needed to go get ready, they didn't want to leave until you came back but I told them it wasn't like I was going anywhere." Her voice was light, Matt happy to see the day with her friends had her in a better mood than she had been that morning. After a rather restless night for the couple, Gabby had woken in some discomfort again. The pain not as intense as it had been the night she was admitted but enough to make her wince every time she moved, something Matt had tried to use to his advantage, saying that maybe he should just stay. Gabby however was quick to wave him off, the woman loved her husband but sometimes he could be a little overbearing and overprotective, and although they were both traits that she loved about him, even if he sometimes jumped in when she didn't need him to, she had felt a bit suffocated by it the past two days. Matt never once leaving her side, the man not even allowing her to lift the jug of water for herself. The day apart had been good for both of them. Gabby having to bite her tongue this morning to stop herself from shouting at him.
"Good, that's good. Don't want them seeing me getting changed" he chuckled.
"Oh please, it's nothing they haven't seen before." Gabby teased back. The two of them falling into their playful banter as he got dried and dressed.
"You ready?" he asked when he came back from hanging his towel up, picking up his phone from the side and bringing it up towards his face, a soft grin resting on his lips as he saw her contented state.
"Yup" she said, popping the word, "let's see it Mr Casey."
Matt walked down the corridor, phone in his hand until he reached the babies door. Turning the camera around he slowly entered the room, slowly moving from the cribs set up against the one wall, the new changing table set up in between the two, circling around to the new rocker and foot stool in the corner next to the window. Gabby smiling as she saw all the work he'd done.
"It's perfect babe" she spoke, emotion filling her voice. "Thank you"
"You're more than welcome baby, anything for my family, you know that." He flicked the camera back round so it was facing him, his face faltering slightly when he saw the tears resting in his wife's eyes. "Hey, hey, what's wrong. Did I not put it in the right place?" he asked, concern filling his voice.
Gabby brushed furiously at her eyes, the woman shaking her head. "No, it's not that, it's just.. it's perfect baby."
"Why are you crying then?"
"These damn hormones" Gabby groaned. Casey chuckling slightly as he began to understand, Gabby had been like this for about a week or so now, the pregnancy hormones really messing with her emotions, the paramedic either bursting into tears or fits of laughter at any given moment. Unfortunately for everyone around her, no one knew which emotion she'd come out with next and to say it had been a bit exhausting was a understatement at the best of times. "Sorry." She said pushing the last of the tears aside, "I don't even know why it made me cry."
"It's ok baby, come on. I'll show you the island in the kitchen if you promise not to cry on me again." he said the last words in a jokey tone, hoping to elicit a smile or laugh from his wife, it worked.
"So it's not completely finished, I've only got the first varnish on it but it looks a lot better than it did." He continued as he moved down the stairs, carefully. The man still unsure of the new house layout and with his phone in his hand didn't want to risk being distracted and falling. The last thing they needed right now was to be forming out for a new phone on top of all their other expenses.
Turning the camera round again so Gabby could see, he scanned the phone across the now smooth surface. Allowing her to see the grainy natrual effect of the oak wood their counter top was made off. A clear varnish giving it a gloosy look when the light from their new ceiling lamp hit it.
"Looks good baby"
"Thanks, it took me the best part of the day. But I can finish it up when we get you home."
"Yea, we'll talk about that when you get here." Dawson smiled, Matt knowing that those words meant she was going to try and kick him out again. Her impatient nature getting the best of her. The mother to be wanting their house perfect for when their son and daughter were born.
"Now hurry up and get back here! Mr Dawson..." she teased.
