Hey everyone. Before we get started, I would like to say a few things. One thing that has been concerning readers is the DMC timeline, I would like to point out, that I'm not exactly following the timeline of the Devil May Cry series, I'm making my own to go along with the Fairy Tail storyline. The characters will all remain the same, but some will meet that never really met in the DMC series. Just wanted to clarify.
Also, one quick regard to Dante's devil arms. These are the ones from the DMC 3 game, like I said, I'm making my own timeline; and other devil arms will appear later, but Dante may not be the one wielding them.
Now then, let's continue. I do not own Fairy Tail, nor Devil May Cry
Settling In
It's been almost a week since Dante has joined up with Fairy Tail, and he enjoyed every moment of it. Most of his time, he spent doing jobs. He usually went for the ones involving combat and fighting. Already, he's cleared out most of his debts with many of his clients and was now starting to earn a profit for once.
He was also enjoying the guild as well. He clicked with Natsu very quickly, Dante saw a bit of himself in the fire dragon slayer, though with Natsu constantly challenging him to fights it was getting a little annoying, but he could always count on him to get a good workout in and stay in shape. He was also on good terms with Gajeel and Grey; Grey was the kind of guy Dante would chill with when he wasn't busy, though he found his stripping habit to be weird; Gajeel would also spar with Dante quite a bit as well, but when Dante noticed how Natsu and Wendy both had cats and he didn't, Gajeel simply walked away. Dante found Wendy to be adorable, though Lucy and Carla preferred it for Wendy to not spend so much time with him. Dante seemed to earn the respect of Makarov as well, especially when Dante noted how many hot chicks we're a part of the guild as well. Though Erza seemed to notice something about Dante that wasn't like anyone else she came across, Dante seemed to notice, but would keep that secret to himself for a while.
It was a nice day in Magnolia and Lucy was walking down the streets to her apartment, with her spirit Plue right next to her.
"I haven't been able to get a decent job in recently." She said. "If I can't pay rent I'll get kicked out." She noticed Plue dancing around Lucy adorably, in attempt to cheer her up which seemed to work as she smiled a bit. "Well there's some optimism if I've ever seen it."
Lucy was now at her apartment and just opened the door, but was not surprised for what she saw inside.
"Hey Lucy!" Happy greeted
"Sup?"
"Yo!"
"Nice place you got here." Natsu, Grey, and Dante all greeted at the same time.
"What the heck!? How do you guys keep getting in!?" Lucy exclaimed with bulged out eyes, still not used to everyone breaking into her apartment.
"You should really lock your windows." Dante said, answering Lucy's question, while sitting on a chair, his feet on her desk.
"Oh, don't tell me they hooked up too Dante." Lucy said with a large sweat drop on her forehead.
"Come on, is that anyway to treat your neighbor?" Dante asked with a cocked smile.
That last word caught Lucy's attention. "I'm sorry, did you just say 'neighbor'?"
"Yep, I got the apartment right next door."
"Please tell me you're joking." Lucy hopped
"Nope, dead serious, you wanna see it?"
Within five seconds, the group was now in Dante's apartment. It was simple, it had windows to view outside, a living room, a bedroom, a kitchen, and a bathroom, all with bare essentials; save for a few swords that decorated the walls.
"It's… cozy?" Lucy said, trying to find the right words for it.
"I've only had this place a few days okay, so sorry if it's not decorated to expectations." Dante joked
"It's simple at least, and you got your own place to crash." Grey said
"True." Dante said "You guys wanna come here, feel free."
"Awesome!" Natsu yelled "Do we get to raid Lucy's apartment later on?"
"DON'T EVEN THINK ABOUT IT!" Lucy yelled with multiple anime anger marks on her head.
"You're right." Dante told Happy "It is funny to see her pissed off."
"Told ya." The flying cat responded
"I'm within ear-shot you know?" She said
"Oh that reminds me." Dante spoke "You're short on money right?"
"Uh yeah?"
"Well, here's your answer." Dante said as he reached into his jacket and pulled out a flyer "I just got a job that has enough to cover both our rents for months."
"Wait are you serious?" She asked
"Yep." Dante answered "And we can get these two knuckleheads to come with us."
"As long as it involves fighting, I'm in." Natsu said
"I need some money to, so why not?" Grey added
"Hey what about me? I'm a part of Fairy Tail to!" Happy cried with comical tears
"So what ya say blondie? Interested?" Dante asked
"Are you kidding? Yes!" Lucy said excitedly "Uh wait, what about Erza? Can't be the strongest team without her."
"Erza took on an S-class quest, said she be back in a couple of days." Grey answered
"Alright then, let's head out." Dante called
"Yeah, I'm all fired up!" Natsu yelled
Fairy Tail guild hall
Wendy was walking up to Cana "Hey, Cana, you seen Natsu or Dante around?"
"I think they went on a job with Lucy and Grey." She answered as she chugged down a barrel of beer.
"Oh, that's too bad, I wanted to go with them."
"It's best you didn't, those two could be a bad influence on you child." Carla told Wendy
"What do you mean? Dante and Natsu are both great people."
"Natsu is a good young man with a strong soul, no argument there." Carla said. "Yet he is reckless and destructive. And besides that, we still know little about Dante other than the fact that he's a devil hunter. Something about him doesn't quite feel right, like he's hiding something"
"What's wrong with that?" Wendy asked "Shouldn't he be entitled to his own secrets? Everyone's got them."
"Not when it could potentially endanger others."
"Why do you always try to find the bad in people Carla?" Wendy questioned
"I don't try to find the bad in them, I'm only saying we need to know more about him." Carla corrected
"Good luck with that." A female voice spoke up from the entrance, catching the attention of most of the wizards present. The source of the voice was a young woman with short dark hair, a white blouse, a black platted skirt, black leather boots. Two things about her really caught people's attention, her right eye was green and her left eye was red. Plus, she had a rocket launcher strapped to her back with a blade at the end of it.
As this woman walked to the counter she was eyed by most of the guild wizards, though for different reasons. Most of the male population was paying attention to her exposed legs as she walked, while the females we're more concerned with a heavily armed individual walking in their guildhall.
The woman came up to the counter where Mira was at. "Hello there, can I help you?" Mira casually greeted with a smile. Most of the wizards fainted with Mira being oblivious to the amount of weapons she had, especially the hard-to-miss rocket launcher.
"Yes, I'm looking for a man named Dante. White hair, red jacket, large sword; he's hard to miss." The woman said
Mira smiled "Dante is the newest member of Fairy Tail."
"So he did join a guild huh? Never took him for a team player. So do you know where I can find him?"
"He's currently on a job right now, though he should be back later today." Mira answered "In the meantime, make yourself at home. So what's your name?"
She sat down at one of the barstools "Call me Lady."
Mount Hakobe.
"Open, Gate of the Clock Constellation: Horolochium!"
Lucy was now shivering inside the clock celestial spirit with a blanket "'brrr. I've been here before, you would have thought I'd remember to wear something warmer, I'm freezing my butt off' she says with great discomfort." Horolochium translates for Lucy as he walks with her inside him, with Dante, Natsu, and Grey.
"The flyer did say that we'd be going to a mountain, so it's your fault." Dante said simply.
"'Not funny.' She replies quite sharply." Horolochium translates
"So let me get this straight, our job is just to find some rare herbs up in these mountains?" Grey asked
"Yep that's it." Dante answered
"Seems a little over-kill, don't you think?" Happy asked as he flew next to Natsu
"What do you mean?" Natsu asked
"He's paying us so many jewels just to find some plant? I'm mean sure it's cold up here, but anyone could do it." Happy responded
"Well the client also said when people came up here to try and find some, many of them didn't return, and the ones that did, never wanted to set foot on this mountain again." Dante said
"'Hold on! You didn't say that!' She exclaims with shock" Horolochium translates for Lucy, who was now shivering with both cold and fear.
"Didn't wanna spoil the party." Dante answered simply, hopping he could get a chance to wail out at any possible monster up here in the mountains. It would seem that Natsu had the same idea.
"Ah yeah! Hey monsters! Come and out and fight me!" Natsu yelled out.
"Yeah, sure just call em out, I'm sure they're just eager to fight you." Grey rolled his eyes sarcastically.
"I got a question." Dante said "Why do you like fighting so much?" He asked Natsu "I mean, I love a good brawl as much as the next guy, but you pick fights like your life depends on it."
"I gotta fight so I can get stronger." Natsu answered "And if I get stronger I can find Igneel."
"Igneel?" Dante asked
"Igneel's the name of the dragon that raised Natsu and taught him his Dragon Slayer magic." Happy answered. "When he hears the word 'dragon', Igneel's the first thing that comes to his mind."
"So why don't you go looking for him?" Dante asked
"I've been looking for him." Natsu answered. "I've been looking for seven years."
Dante was surprised to hear that. "Seven years?"
"Yeah, he vanished seven years ago, along with Gajeel's dragon Metallica, and Wendy's dragon Grandeeney." Natsu added
"Hold on, all three dragons disappeared seven years ago?" Dante questioned
"Yeah, on the same day; July 7, X777." Natsu held his scarf that was given to him by Igneel.
"Vanished on the same day? Sounds like we got a real mystery on our hands. Tell you what kid, I'll help you find them."
Natsu was surprised to say the least. "Whoa, really?"
"Yeah, why not? When I was little, my old man said he knew a few dragons, I'd like to see one." Dante said, earning surprised expressions from everyone present.
"For real!?" Natsu yelled
"No way!" Grey exclaimed
"Wow!" Happy exclaimed
"'Are you serious?!' She yells with great surprise." Horolochium translates for Lucy.
"Yep." Dante said simply "Though I've never seen a dragon myself, just pictures."
"So where's your dad?" Natsu asked "Maybe he knows where Igneel is."
"He died a long time ago."
This earned somber expressions from everyone.
"I'm sorry to hear that." Happy said with some sorrow in his voice.
Dante inhaled deeply for a little bit "Forget it, let's just keep going."
As soon as Dante said that, there was the sound of an alarm clock going off, it was coming from Horolochium. "I'm sorry, but my time is up. Farwell."
In a puff of smoke, Horolochium vanished, leaving Lucy comically shivering in the cold. Before anything else could be said Natsu took a few whiffs of the air and a huge grin formed on his face.
"Hey guys I found it!"
"Really?" Lucy asked, hopping to get out of the cold as soon as possible
"Yeah it's gotta be it, it smells like plants!"
"Man, you've got a noose that could put demons to shame." Dante complimented.
"All I know is that we found em! Let's move!" Natsu yelled as he ran at near-super-human speed, leaving behind a trail of dust. Dante, Grey, and Lucy all sweat dropped.
"Well, he's certainly enthusiastic." Dante observed.
"That's Natsu for ya!" Happy cheered
"Always running on without a thought in his head." Grey sighed.
"Sometimes I worry about his mental health." Lucy added
Natsu quickly ran to the top of a large hill and spotted a large variety of herbs. "Ha ha! I found ya!" Before Natsu could make a grab, a large gust of wind sent him flying back.
It wasn't long before everyone else caught up and saw what forced Natsu back, forcing them to stop in their tracks, a massive white wyvern. The wyvern took a protective stance in front of the herbs that just so happen to be it's favorite food.
"You've gotta be kidding me!" Natsu exclaimed
"I don't think he wants to share." Happy frightenedly observed
"Well what do you know? Looks like we hit the jackpot." Dante said with a sly grin.
"Jackpot!?" Lucy yelled. "We've got a massive wyvern guarding the plants! How is that a jackpot!?"
"He's right." Grey said, adding a surprised look from Lucy "White wyvern scales are very valuable they can get us a lot more money if we sell them."
"Bingo." Dante said, Grey got the idea with one shot.
"You hear that big guy? We're gonna take your food and skin ya for good measure!" Natsu excitedly told the wyvern, earning a sweatdrop from the creature.
Lucy turned behind and didn't like what she saw. "Uh guys?" Everyone turned a bit to see what she was seeing "I don't think the wyvern is our only problem." She said while shaking.
A large pack of at least thirty Vulcans had just arrived on the scene all with sinister grins and a few we're cracking their knuckles eager for a fight.
"Well this just got a whole lot more interesting." Dante said as he drew Rebellion.
"Looks like we're gonna get quite a workout." Grey said with a smile as he put his hand to his palm and icy wind was coming from it.
"Aw yeah, I'm all fired up now!" Natsu said with both his fists on fire.
"Aye!" Happy cheered
Lucy was hiding behind a nearby rock, not wanting to get caught up in the oncoming battle. One these days, this guild is gonna kill me. She said as endless tears came from her eyes.
"Have no fear Lucy." Loke spoke as he materialized in golden light in front of her. "You're knight in shinning armor is here for you." He said with his rings glowing gold ready to fight as well.
With that, the Wyvern and the Vulcans all roared as they charged towards the Fairy Tail heroes; Natsu, Grey, Loke, and Happy yelled as they charged as well, Dante simply smiled.
Fairy Tail guild hall
It had been a few hours since Lady arrived at the guildhall. A few of them asked questions about her, who was she? Did she want to join? How does she know Dante? She did not want to join the guild, and she said she was an acquaintance of his and he owed her quite a lot of money.
"So you're a friend of Dante's?" Wendy asked
"More or less." Lady answered
"Well he's a great person, he saved my life." Wendy said excitedly.
"Dante" and "Great" in the same sentence? I'll never get used to that. Lady thought as she patted Wendy's head "Sure, whatever you say kid." Lady then returned to her drink
A thought came to Mira's head. "By any chance, is Dante you're boyfriend?"
Lady spat out her drink, which left a rainbow, as soon as she heard that "Are you kidding me!? No way!"
"What's wrong?" Mira asked
"He's not my boyfriend, he just owes me money, That's it!" Lady stated
"What exactly do you know of Dante?" Carla questioned
"Not much, he's very secretive and tends to keep to himself." She answered. Lady could tell that Dante didn't say anything in regards to his family's history; she respected him enough to keep his secret.
"Yo! We made it back!" A voice called out. All turned to the entrance to see Natsu kick the door open, revealing him, Dante, Grey, Lucy, and Happy.
While everyone else was warmly welcomed back by their comrades, Dante looked to the counter, as soon as he saw Lady he sighed. He walked up to the counter and greeted her.
"Hey, it's been a while." He said
"Yeah, sure has." Lady responded
"Yo, Dante, who's this chick?" Natsu asked as he, Grey, Lucy, and Happy joined them.
"Guys, Lady; Lady, guys." Dante introduced.
"You're a friend of Dante's?" Lucy asked
"More of an acquaintance than a friend." She responded
"So what do you do?" Grey questioned
"And why do you have a massive rocket launcher with you!?" Lucy exclaimed as an arrow pointed to said rocket launcher.
"I'm a devil hunter, and I gotta fight demons somehow, don't I?"
"You're a devil hunter too?!" Happy questioned with circular eyes
"So you wanna join Fairy Tail?" Natsu asked
"Nope, just here to collect on a debt this guy owes me." She said pointing to Dante.
"Or you liiikkee him." Happy said, rolling his tongue.
Lady's eye twitched, she came up close to the flying cat's face. "Listen up cat, cause I'm only gonna say this once." She began to the scared cat "This bastard here is a strawberry sundae freak! He eats pizza everyday, and he never pays back the money he borrows from me or anyone else! How exactly am I supposed to fall for him?!"
"Sorry just kidding!" Happy frightenedly said.
"That's almost Erza scary." Grey observed
"Hey! You're a devil hunter huh?" Natsu questioned to Lady.
"Yes, and you must be the Salamander; you're much younger than I thought you be."
Natsu ignored the comment "If you're a devil hunter, than you gotta be strong; and if you're strong, you gotta fight me!"
Dante and Lady both sweat dropped at that "Sorry, no." she said
"To bad, cause here I come!" He yelled as he charged in, only for his face to make contact with her boot, he fell back with swirls in his eyes.
"Oh, Natsu" Mira said as she shook her head and Grey and happy tried to help him up.
"So…" Lady began
"Don't bother, cause I'm already getting it out." Dante said as he reached into his jacket and pulled out a large stack of money and handed to her. "I had a feeling you'd show up, so I'd save some just for this moment."
Lady went through all the bills and counted the money. "35,000 jewel huh?"
"Yep, all in cash."
"Good, that means 20% of your debt is now cleared."
"20%?" Lucy questioned "Hold on, are you seriously that far in debt? Geeze, what did you do that made you owe this chick that much money?"
"Don't ask." Dante said simply "I guess it's a good thing we hit that jackpot today huh?"
"Jackpot?" Lady questioned. Dante took out two items from his jacket and tossed them to Lady, she was surprised to say the least. "Are these white wyvern scales?"
"Bingo sister." Dante answered. "Ran into one on my last job, that should be more than enough, so I'd say we're square at this point."
Lady was indeed taken aback, Dante rarely paid back any debts, least of all to her. She kept her surprise well hidden as she flashed an amused grin. "That depends, if these are the real thing or not." Lady got off the counter and left some money for Mira "Thanks for the drink."
"So where you headed?" Dante asked
"You got your business, I got mine."
"If of get sick of it, try joining a guild, it's a lot more fun that you might think." Dante said.
"I'm more of a solo-act." Lady said as she left the guildhall. "See ya."
"You didn't say there we're other devil hunters out there." Grey told Dante
"You didn't ask." Dante replied
"Who exactly was that?" Lucy asked
"No one you wanna mess with, trust me."
