Hi everyone. Did you miss me? Well it's good to see everyone again. Let us continue with this awesome story. Once again, I thank each and every one of you for your patience. So, time to get going.
A Devil's Game
"Vergil is responsible?" Makarov asked.
"Yeah, he is." Trish confirmed.
After Wendy was kidnaped, the wizards of Fairy Tail quickly rushed to the guild hall to inform Master Makarov of what just happened; the ones present we're Trish, Erza, Natsu, Lady, Grey, Juvia, Lucy, Gajeel, Happy, and Carla.
"Did he state his reason why he has taken these actions?" Makarov asked.
"No he has not." Erza replied.
"Who the hell cares?! After everything he's done, I'm gonna beat him so hard in the ground he's gonna think he's a fossil!" Natsu angrily exclaimed.
"Natsu calm down…" Happy tried.
"No way! Not until that bastard gets a taste of my fist!" The Fire Dragon Slayer replied.
"Hey, are you forgetting what happened last time you tried to fight him?" Lucy reminded.
"He sucker punched us." Grey stated, remembering when they first met Vergil and how he was able to beat him, Natsu, and Erza.
"I want a piece of that punk to." Gajeel spoke up. "That pretty boy is just begging for someone to knock him off his high horse."
"Will you guys wait for just a second." Lady stated, getting the wizards attention. "Vergil isn't someone you can just charge at; you have no idea how strong he is."
"She's right." Erza replied. "We know very little about him, and we also know that he was strong enough to even bring down Mira, whose skills even rival mine."
"Not to mention Dante himself confirmed that Vergil was stronger than him." Juvia added.
"Then why don't we just ask Dante how to handle this?" Happy suggested.
"Well, where is Dante?" Lucy asked. They all looked around and he wasn't present with him. Come to think of it, they hadn't seen him since Vergil made off with Wendy, after Carla gave him quite the scolding.
"What was the last thing Vergil said?" Carla recalled. "'Meet me where we first played and got lost'?"
"Does that mean anything to you two?" Makarov asked the two female Devil Hunters.
"No, doesn't ring a bell." Lady replied.
"Dante didn't say anything like that when we worked together, he rarely talked about Vergil." Trish explained.
"Something tells me that Dante knows." Gajeel stated.
"If he knows where Vergil is hiding…." Lucy thought. "Wait, you don't think he went to fight him by himself do you?"
"It wouldn't surprise me." Trish stated.
"What is he thinking?" Erza questioned.
"He's not going in this alone!" Natsu exclaimed as he charged up with fire and sprinted out the door.
"Where's he going?" Lady questioned.
"He's going to look for Dante." Happy answered.
"Which will also lead us to Vergil." Erza added.
"And wherever he's keeping everyone else that he's taken." Lucy added as well.
"How would Natsu know? Does he even know where he's going?" Trish questioned.
"I wouldn't worry, Natsu has a nose for prey that would put wild predators to shame." Grey explained.
"Well ain't getting left out of the action!" Gajeel stated as he ran out following Natsu.
"Natsu! Gajeel! Wait up!" Happy called as he flew after the two Dragon Slayers.
"Well come on, let's go help them out!" Lucy exclaimed.
"We shouldn't rush this however, Vergil is extremely dangerous." Juvia said.
"Which is why we all should be going." Grey stated.
"Of course of my love!" Juvia stated with a blush, in a making a complete 180 from what she just said.
"Then let us go!" Erza declared as she, Grey, Juvia, and Lucy ran out.
"We should get going to." Trish said to Lady.
"Yeah, let's go." The bazooka-wielding woman agreed as they we're about to head out.
"I am coming with you as well, Wendy needs me." Carla stated.
"Sure cat." Trish spoke. "But you better apologize to Dante when you see him." She lightly scolded, causing Carla too look down with some shame.
The three then left, leaving Master Makarov alone. Dante, you don't have to face this alone. I understand that you feel responsible for your brother's actions, but you shouldn't be afraid to ask for help; after all, that's what friends are for.
Meanwhile, outside Magnolia, it was still night outside; the only light being a large stream of fire, trailing behind the sprinting Natsu.
"I'M COMING FOR YOU VERGIL!"
Speaking of Vergil, he was seen in a meditative stance, standing in front of the large green fire in the massive chamber; with his many prisoners chained in the air behind him.
"You're a real sicko! You know that?" Cana called down to him.
"You took Wendy too?! What kind of monster attacks a twelve-year-old girl?!" Levy scolded, while Wendy was next to Cana looking down in shame at being captured so easily.
"You're call yourself a man?!" Elfman yelled.
"Pay attention to us, you self-righteous freak!" Bigslow scolded.
Regardless, Vergil remained in his meditative stance, unphased at the insults thrown his way. "Do you plan on doing this much longer? Because simply throwing words my way is how a child acts." He stated not even turning around to them.
That earned glares from almost everyone.
"Tell me, do you enjoy this? Hurting others like this?" Mira questioned. "I may not have known your father, but I know that he would be ashamed of you!"
"I don't really care." Vergil said simply, without any trace of emotion.
"How can someone who is the son of Sparda and the brother of Dante be so cold-hearted?" Freed questioned.
"In this world, emotions and humans are of little consequences. With emotion comes weakness, with weakness comes death. My father was indeed one of the strongest demons to ever live, however, his death was a result of his care for the human race; if you are to become stronger, then you must sever your weakness of your emotion." Vergil explained.
"How can you say that?" Wendy questioned. "You're half demon, so doesn't that also mean you're half human?"
Vergil's eyes went open with that. He slowly stood up and turned around. The look he gave Wendy made her paralyze with fear.
"Yes." Vergil began. "I am physically half human, but that is something I greatly despise. My human-side is weak."
"You think humans are weak?" Evergreen questioned.
"You clearly know nothing about humans." Freed stated.
"Humans have such short life spans, on top of it, they are a species that's on a path of self destruction. Despite that, they still follow the law of nature within their own species; just as the demons follow the law of nature to humans as they are stronger." Vergil explained.
"Law of nature?" Cana questioned.
"The survival of the fittest. If you are strong, you live. If you are weak, you die. Humans are weak, and I will not be weak, my life will not be wasted like all other humans, which is why I've made the choice to sever my humanity."
That comment made all the wizards' eyes go wide with shock.
"Sever your humanity?" Levy questioned. "What do you mean?"
"I may be half-human, physically. But that is all that's left of it; all my human emotions have been erased; love, hate, anger, greed, fear, compassion, it is all gone."
"How… how can you say that like it's nothing?!" Mira questioned. "How can you just get rid of your humanity?!"
"I don't expect you to understand, after all, none of you are demons." Vergil replied simply.
Dante sighed. "Well, here I am."
He stood before a large, black, castle that was at least three-times as large as the Fairy Tail guildhall. What really stood out was the stone image of Sparda's face just above the 12-foot entrance to the castle.
"Lets get this over with, bro."
Before Dante could enter however, someone called out his name.
"Dante!"
He was slightly startled at that; but was even more surprised as he recognized the voice. He soon heard others call his name as well.
"Dante! Dante!"
He turned around and he saw Natsu running up towards the castle, with Happy flying by his side. Right behind him was Trish, Erza, Gajeel, Lady, Lucy, Grey, and Juvia, with Carla flying at the back of the pack
"Wha… What the hell are you guys doing here?!" Dante questioned as they all came up to him.
"We're here to back you up, what's it look like?" Grey answered.
"How'd you even find this place?" Dante asked.
"Salamander and I can smell you from a mile away." Gajeel responded.
"Not to mention I can smell that piece of crap Vergil!" Natsu added.
"So this is where everyone's being held?" Erza asked as she looked at the large scary castle, which had lightning bolts shoot in the background.
"Why do bad guys always pick scary hideouts?" Lucy whined.
"Well, what are we waiting for? Let's go." Lady asked.
"No!" Dante exclaimed, surprising everyone present. "This is something I have to do alone; all of you are going back!"
Natsu punched his palm, which had embers come off from the impact. "You ain't scaring me into leaving! I'm gonna make Vergil pay for what he's done!"
"Guys…" Dante tried.
"Did you forget? Vergil kidnapped Wendy, Mira, and the others; we're not leaving without them!" Natsu exclaimed. "Right Happy?"
"Aye sir!" Happy replied.
"I will not leave Wendy in the hands of that vile man!" Carla exclaimed protectively.
"Look, I promise, I'm gonna bring them all back with me. But you are not coming with me!" Dante stated.
"What is it with you Dante?" Trish questioned. "Why do you always want to do things alone?"
"I've put you guys through enough trouble already, this is the least I can do." He replied.
"You are not responsible for all that has happened!" Erza told him.
"Vergil is the one who is to blame." Juvia added.
"He's my brother, he's my responsibility!" Dante exclaimed.
Lucy sighed a bit. "Look, all of us know you two have a history, and you have your own personal reasons for doing this. He may be your brother, but we're your friends and we wanna help you. And not matter what happens, we're always gonna have your back."
"Yeah, she's right." Grey agreed.
"He will KILL YOU!" Dante yelled, loosing a bit of composure.
"Hey we ain't easy to kill! That guy's not gonna get rid of us that easy!" Natsu yelled back.
"Aye, you tell him." Happy agreed.
"That brother of yours needs to be taught a lesson." Gajeel said. "And we're just the wizards to do it."
Dante was quite surprised to hear all this support.
"Look, Dante, there's nothing wrong with asking for help." Lady stated. "Plus I got a score to settle with Vergil to."
"And before you go back to 'it's too dangerous for you guys', that isn't gonna work with us, not with this guild." Trish stated.
"Dante, believe me, I can understand what you are feeling right now." Erza began. "But friends are always there to help you, even if you think you don't want it. That's the point of a family, to always be there for each other. So let us help you."
"And this isn't just about you. Vergil kidnapped people from our guild, he's declared war on all of Fairy Tail!" Natsu stated. "This is just as much of our business as it is yours."
The red-clad Devil Hunter turned around. He never received this kind of support before in his life. Even after everything that went down, they we're still willing to stand by his side. Dante was actually for a moment before collecting himself. He knew some of these people and how stubborn they can be, telling them 'no' was not going to work.
He sighed before speaking. "Alright." Everyone smiled. "But, no one goes anywhere alone, and you absolutely do not fight Vergil alone, got it?"
"Got it." They all replied at the same time.
"Alright then." Dante turned to face the castle. "Lets go kick my bro's ass!"
Temple Chamber.
The scene that took place outside was seen in an image shown in the large green demonic fire before disappearing. Vergil had seen the whole thing.
"You're in trouble buddy!" Bigslow taunted.
"Yeah! Prepare to have your ass handed to you." Cana taunted as well.
"Picking a fight with Fairy Tail was a HUGE mistake!" Elfman stated.
Vergil turned around towards his prisoners. "How foolish do you think I am?" This earned confused looks from everyone. "Did you honestly believe I wasn't prepared for those wizards to accompany my brother? I was expecting them."
Vergil then reached into his robe and pulled out what appeared to be a black gauntlet, with three red rubies imbedded on the hand. Vergil put this gauntlet on his right hand and outstretched it over the floor.
"I call upon you! Your master summons you to his side!" As soon as Vergil said that, the red gems began to glow and spark electricity. Dark purple electric bolts shot from the palm of the gauntlet to the ground, where it all light with the electricity. It stopped after a few seconds; as soon as it did, several small white spheres hovered off the ground and circled Vergil; soon three more larger spheres hovered in front of Vergil; one of them was glowing orange with a firey aura, the second one was glowing purple with an electric aura, the last one was a dark green with a foggy aura.
"You are not our master!" The orange sphere spoke out with anger evident in it's voice.
"We serve only one master; the darkness that is Mundus!" The purple sphere stated.
"You forget that as long as I have this gauntlet in my possession, you are bound to my will and do what it is I ask." Vergil reminded, the spheres glowed even brighter with anger. "However, I can remedy that."
"Speak straight! Son of Sparda." The purple sphere demanded.
"I have an assignment for all of you. Complete it, and you shall have your freedom. I will release you back to your first master." Vergil explained.
"If you deceive us, you shall pay for it with your life." The orange sphere promised.
"I speak the truth." Vergil confirmed.
"Then what is it you ask of us?" The purple sphere asked.
Dante lead Natsu, Happy, Erza, Trish, Gajeel, Carla, Lady, Grey, Lucy, and Juvia deeper into the temple. They we're currently walking through a large hallway that was decorated with large statues of Sparda. The statues all showed him kneeling with his sword facing the walls, the heroes walked in between them.
"So… what is this place?" Lucy asked.
"Whoever built this place was obviously a fan of your dad, Dante." Happy added.
"Fan? More like worshipers." Grey corrected.
"This is an ancient temple." Dante began. "I don't know who exactly built it; but they worshiped my old man like a god."
"How did you know Vergil would be here?" Juvia asked.
"He told me." Dante answered.
"What you mean 'meet me where we first played and got lost'?" Trish recalled, to which Dante nodded.
"What exactly did that mean?" Lady asked.
"Well, when Vergil and I we're really little; our folks took us out for a picnic on a place not too far from here. We we're playing Tag, we stumbled into this place and we decided to play Hide and Seek here, unfortunately we got lost. We didn't get out till our parents came looking for us."
"I see, so that's what Vergil meant." Carla stated.
"Your sure he's here with everyone else?" Erza asked.
"Positive." Dante confirmed.
"Yeah, I can smell everyone; Wendy, Mira, Elfman, Cana…" Natsu began.
"The Thunder Legion, and Levy." Gajeel finished. "Yeah, they're here alright."
A few moments later, the group came to a large, circular room at the end of the hall. Once they all entered it, they looked around for a door or something, but there was nothing.
"Dead end." Lady observed.
"Then let's head back." Lucy began as she was about to head out, but the door slammed shut as a stone wall fell in the door way, much to everyone's shock.
"What the hell?!" Natsu, Grey, and Gajeel questioned at the same time.
"We're trapped!" Happy exclaimed.
"He knows we're here." Dante said with a scowl.
Before anyone else could react however, several walls quickly arose from the floor and stretched out towards the ceiling, separating everyone into smaller groups, trapped in smaller sections. Dante was stuck in one; Natsu was in the one next to him; Gajeel, Happy, Grey, and Carla we're in the one on the right of that one; next to theirs was Erza; on her right we're Lucy and Juvia; finally Lady and Trish.
"What the heck is going on?!" Lucy yelled in a panic. "Are you guys okay?"
Juvia turned to the wall behind them and looked somewhat frightened at what she saw. "Uh… Lucy?"
Lucy turned around to what Juvia was pointing at and saw the wall had somehow become liquefied, but what surprised them even more we're two tentacles coming out of the wall. Before they could react, each of the tentacles ensnared and tied up one of the girls. They both screamed as they we're pulled into the wall which then became solid.
"Was that Lucy?" Happy questioned.
"Think that was Juvia to." Carla added.
"Then you two better move, cause we're about to bust our way though!" Grey stated as he and Gajeel we're about to unleash their magic and blast a hole through the wall, but Gajeel noticed something.
"Hey, does this floor feel funny to you?" The Iron Dragon Slayer questioned.
They both looked down and saw the floor had turned into some kind of liquid. They both then fell in. Gajeel and Grey yelled as they struggled to get up, but it felt like quicksand and they we're quickly sinking.
"Hang on guys!" Happy exclaimed as he grabbed Gajeel's hand and tried to pull him up, and Carla did the same for Grey, but both wizards we're still sinking.
"It's no use, and we're getting pulled in with them!" Carla stated as both flying cats sunk into the liquid floor with both wizards and the floor solidified.
"Hey! Who's screaming!" Natsu yelled from his room. However, the ceiling opened up above him and a powerful wind had now formed and was pulling him up. He tried to grab onto the floor but was unable to.
"Aw man! I hate freaking booby traps!" Natsu yelled as he was sucked into the ceiling, which closed after he entered.
Erza looked around in her room at the sounds of yelling, she was about to requip into one of her armors, however, chains burst up from the ground and quickly ensnared her.
"What? What is this?" She questioned as she struggled to get out of the chains. Without any warning, the chains swiftly pulled her into the ground.
"Things just keep getting better and better." Trish said sarcastically.
"Stand back, I'm gonna blast our way out of here." Lady ordered as she pulled out her bazooka; however, a trap door opened underneath both of them.
"Oh crap." They both said at the same time as they fell and the trap door closed behind them.
Dante looked around at the sound of everyone screaming. "Guys!? What is going on?!"
The wall behind him opened up soon after that, and a strong and powerful wind tried to pull him in. He struggled as he tried to resist, he even took out Rebellion and jammed it into the floor. He was being blown of his feet, but Rebellion wasn't enough as it was loosened from its grip and he was sucked into the wall.
Erza landed hard on the cold ground. Though she quickly got up and dusted herself off. She took the time to look around at her surroundings.
"Where am I?"
It appeared that she was in a large dungeon as it was decorated with chains and many skeletons.
"I'm guessing then I'm my own for now."
However, she spotted multiple pairs of red eyes in the darkness surrounding her. There was a bright glow and Erza was now requipped in her Flame Empress Armor. She lit her large red sword on fire and it illuminated the entire chamber. There she could see dozens of demons that each bore the appearances of gorilla-like creatures.
"I trust that you are my welcoming committee?" Erza guessed, which resulted in the demons roaring and snarling at her. "However, I did not come all this way from you; be gone now and your lives will be spared."
The demons gave even louder roars at her declaration and jumped towards her with deadly intention.
"If this is the path you choose, then so be it!"
She gave her trademark yell as she charged at the incoming demons.
Lady was offered a hand by Trish, which she gratefully took. They looked and saw that they we're actually outside the castle.
"How the hell did we end up out here?" Lady questioned.
"I don't know, but maybe they can tell us how to get in." Trish answered, motioning towards a nearby lake.
Multiple creatures emerged from the lake; they each had looks similar to mermaids, with dark blue scales, claws, red eyes, fangs; and each bore a trident. They snarled and hissed at the two Devil Hunters.
"Oh look, the welcome wagon." Lady drolled sarcastically as she pulled out two pistols and Trish drew her sword Sparda.
Grey and Gajeel stood up, along with Happy and Carla.
"Is everyone alright?" Grey asked.
"I'm fine, you Carla?" Happy asked.
"I'll live." She responded.
"Just where did we end up?" Gajeel questioned as they looked at the large chamber that they we're in. It was lined with stained glass across the walls, and at the end of the wall was a large organ.
"This particular room must have been where the worshipers had their 'mass' or something of that nature." Carla theorized.
"We can worry about that later, right now, our first priority is getting out of here." Grey stated.
Gajeel however took a few whiffs of the air, and didn't like what he smelled. "Guys, we got company."
As soon as he said that, a large creature smashed through the wall, and some of the windows, and landed in front of the group. They we're surprised at the sight of what appeared to be a large spider-like creature made out of stone and lava.
"What is this?!" Carla questioned.
"You are my opponents? I wasn't expecting you to be so small, but I can't expect any less from humans."
"A Spider?!" Happy questionedly exclaimed.
"A giant spider made of lava?" Grey questioned as well.
"And just who are you, bug?" Gajeel demanded from the demon.
"I am the dreaded Phantom! One of the servants of the mighty Mundus, though currently in the thrawl of the fool known as Vergil! I have been tasked with eliminating you puny wizard! That is what I will do!"
Phantom roared, but the Ice-Make Wizard and Iron Dragon Slayer we're unphased, and actually gave eager smiles.
"Well what do you know? Looks like we got our warm up coming to us." Gajeel stated with an eager grin as he cracked his knuckles.
"Maybe we're just that good." Grey said was as well with his own eager smile, putting a fist to his palm, with icy winds coming from it.
"What? Those two knuckleheads want to fight that demon?" Carla questioned as she sweat dropped.
"Aye! That's Gajeel and Grey for ya!" Happy cheered.
Natsu was thrown in the air and landed on the ground. Though he quickly got up. "Hey! What's the big idea?!"
He looked around and actually found himself on the roof of the castle. The entire castle was seen as an arrow pointed to Natsu's location.
"How the hell did I get up here?!" Natsu comically yelled, but quickly shook it off. "Doesn't matter, gotta get back inside pronto."
However, before he could, he caught a strange scent. He then looked towards the night sky as several dark grey clouds formed, with red lightning coming from them. Natsu scowled.
"Something's coming this way."
Coming out of the clouds was a massive bird-like demon, surrounded by red lighting. The demon hovered for a few minutes before setting down near the Salamander.
"You?! You are my opponent?! I was expecting more."
"And just who are you pal?" Natsu demanded.
"I am the terror of the skies! I am Griffon! I am one of the greatest of all of Mundus' generals!"
"'Mundus'?" Natsu questioned.
"At the moment however, I am currently in the service of the filthy vermin Vergil. However, he has promised me my freedom if I kill you; which is what I now intend to do!"
Griffon gave a loud screech.
"I hate to break it to you, you overgrown turkey, but I don't got time to play with you right now! So I'm gonna kick your ass pronto so I can rescue my friends!" Natsu stated as he was surrounded with his fire.
"Talk is cheap, Dragon Slayer!" Griffon stated as his red electric aura grew brighter.
Dante grunted as he stood up. He looked around and found himself in a large cave. "Great, just freaking great!" He grunted.
Dante began to walk out. "I hate it when things turn out like this."
However, before he was able to leave; he heard something odd. He turned around and found a hole had formed in the ground. Out of the hole, slowly crawled a dark green liquid, trailing with it several pieces of stone and metal. Once the liquid was fully emerged, it began to condense in on itself and build up with the metal and stone. It then began to take an odd, blobbish shape.
Dante sighed as he could guess that if he was to get out, he'd have to kill this thing first.
"Sorry buddy, but we gotta make this quick. I got business to take care of." He said as he pulled out Ebony and Ivory.
Lucy and Juvia we're still tied up in tentacles as they we're being carried through some kind of horizontal shoot. They both struggled to get loose, but it seemed all their struggles we're useless.
A door opened and the tentacles threw the two girls out, and they landed hard on the floor. They both quickly picked themselves up.
"Juvia, you okay?" Lucy asked.
"Yes, I'm fine." Juvia confirmed. "Where are we?"
They looked around and found themselves outside the castle, on a large castle balcony.
"You think the others are okay?" Lucy hopped.
"I believe so." Juvia replied. "It would seem our opponent has made his move."
"What do you mean?" The Celestial Wizard asked.
"Divide and Conquer. By separating us, it makes it easier for the enemy to pick us off one-by-one." Juvia explained.
"Right you are. I expect no less from one of Phantom Lord's Element Four."
Both looked surprised when they heard that particular voice. They slowly turned around and looked upward to a smaller balcony just above them, sitting on the edge, looking down on the two was none other than who they we're looking for.
"Meaning, that dealing with you two, will be simpler than taking all of you on at once." Vergil stated.
Done! That may have been the longest chapter I've written so far for this story. I'm sure you remember who those three demons are. Again, I'd like to clarify, that I am making my own Devil May Cry timeline based a bit on the original one and incorporating it into the main Fairy Tail storyline. All the character's personalities remain the same.
It certainly looks like things are about to get intense for our heroes. What's gonna happen next? Find out next time, on Fairy May Cry.
