Best Friends Talk

*Aang's Perspective*

The gaang left the theatre, void of all smiles and laughter because that terrible play did everything wrong. The horrible actors and writing knew absolutely nothing about the true Team Avatar. However, nobody hated that play more than Aang. Aang had every right to be upset. In the play they predicted that he would lose his fight against Ozai and the crowd CHEERED. That was not the only reason why he was upset, when actor Katara said that Aang was only a brother to her it really hurt Aang and the events that occurred outside the play broke Aang's heart.

On the walk back to the Firelord's old vacation house, Aang replayed the events at the play over and over. "I just said I was confused!" Aang remembered every detail. The face Katara made when she uttered those words were stained into his brain. The way she ran back inside like she was running away from a plague. It would be an understatement to say Aang was hurt and broken hearted. He tried to tell himself that there may still be a chance that Katara and him will be together. He tried to convince himself that Katara did not completely reject him, but everytime he remembered what happened at the play he lost more and more hope.

The gaang arrived at their temporary home and all went to their respective rooms. As Aang entered his room and changed into some comfortable clothes so he could sleep. However, he found himself playing different scenarios where he didn't kiss Katara without her consent. He was so angry with himself and started talking to himself about how much of an idiot he was.

*Katara's Perspective*

"I'm going back inside," Katara said. She went back to watch the play, but she couldn't pay attention because her mind was stuck replaying the events that just occurred. "Ugh! Why did he have to kiss me?" she thought to herself. Katara was mad at Aang, and she had every right to be mad. "Now things are going to be awkward between us. I don't want to lose Aang."

As the gaang walked back to Ozai's old home, Katara was no longer angry with Aang. She felt bad because she could have handled the situation better, however, she knew what Aang did was wrong and she hoped that he realized that. But she didn't want to lose Aang because he was her best friend. "I have to talk to Aang so we can clear up this awkwardness and confusion."

Once everybody went to their separate rooms Katara went to her room to change into her sleeping clothes. She stayed in her room for a while, trying to muster up the courage to talk to Aang. "It's just Aang. He is still your best friend. It will be okay." she thought to herself.

Once she had enough courage she walked over to Aang's room and was about to knock until she heard someone talking. She put her ear to the door and realized that it was Aang who was talking. "I am such an idiot. Why would I lean in and kiss her? I wish I can just go back in time and slap myself silly and tell myself to NOT kiss Katara." When Katara heard this she was slightly relieved because Aang knew what he did was wrong and regretted it deeply. She already forgiven him for his actions, but it was good to know that he was sorry.

"Now I made things awkward and now the chances of Katara and I being together is low... Maybe it could happen? I mean it wasn't exactly a rejection…" A silent pause filled the air and Katara was wondering if he had fallen asleep, but her suspicions were wrong when he began to talking again. "Who am I kidding. It was 100 percent a rejection... *sigh* It's okay, there are plenty of girls out there for me. I just need to move on." When Katara heard this it sent a knife through her heart. She did have feelings for Aang and she didn't want him to move on. "No! Don't move on Aang. I'm not confused about my feelings for you. I'm confused on what we should do with our relationship. I need to talk to him now."

Katara knocked on the door and said, "Aang, are you awake? I want to talk." Katara knew he was awake, but she couldn't let him know that she was eavesdropping on his conversation with himself. "Yeah i'm awake, you can come in." Aang was surprised and instantly became nervous. Katara walked in and she looked at Aang, and saw how he was avoiding eye contact. Aang scooted over on his bed to make room for Katara to sit down. Katara accepted the invitation and sat down next to him. There was about 3 feet of space between them. They were silent for about 30 seconds before Katara broke the silence.

"Aang, I just want to clear some things up. I am confused, but not in the way you think." Katara said softly.

"What do you mean? What are you confused about?" Aang gave her a curious look

"First I just want to say. What happened back there was not a rejection. I do have feelings for you and I want us to be together." Katara said with slight smile on her face while she looked at Aang

Aang instantly became ecstatic. He could not believe what Katara just said, "She has feelings for me? This is the best day of my life! Wait what is she confused about then?" Aang thought to himself. They were silent for a short time and Katara began to worry because he wasn't saying anything. "Crap, I need to say something. I can't ruin this moment."

"Really?! I am so relieved that you said that, but... what are you confused about?" Aang had the biggest grin on his face and his entire demeanor changed. He was sitting up straight and his eyes had a sparkle in them that only Katara could make.

"I'm confused about what we should do with our relationship." She said while breaking her eye contact with him and looked down to her feet.

"I don't think I understand" Aang responded truthfully. He really did not know what she meant.

"What I mean is that, on one hand I want us to become a couple, but on the other I feel like there are more important things to focus on than taking our relationship to the next level." She said with a slight hesitation in her voice. Aang looked at her and completely understood what she meant.

"Oh I never thought about it like that, but I think we both know what is the right answer." Katara looked at him with a curious look and waited for him to elaborate.

"There are bigger things to focus on. In a few days I have to face the baddest man on the planet and if I lose then we are all in deep moose-lion doodoo. The fate of the world is on my shoulders and that means I have to focus 100 percent of my attention and energy in training in order to defeat Ozai." Katara knew he was right and it cleared up her confusion. She wanted Aang and her to be together, but they would have to wait.

"I agree, I think we should wait to become boyfriend and girlfriend until after you defeat Ozai." Katara said. Aang listened to her words and he loved that she said boyfriend and girlfriend. It warmed his heart. But that would only become a reality if he defeated Ozai.

"I like the sound of that." he said with a smile on his face. "That's if I beat Ozai though."

"Aang don't say that, you will defeat him. It's going to happen and that's that." Once Katara said this every doubt in Aang's mind vanished and he was so grateful to have Katara in his life.

"You really think so?" Aang looked at her with the hope in his eyes.

"Yes, I really think so." Katara looked at him and gave him a smile that melted his heart. Another silent pause filled the air, but it was a comfortable silence. It was not awkward between them and they enjoyed being in each other's presence.

Aang broke the silence and said, "So… best friends until after the war?" He opened his arms to offer her a hug and she gladly accepted it.

"Best friends until after the war." About 20 seconds went by before they both broke the hug and Katara stood up to leave. However, before she could leave Aang grabbed her hand and she looked back with a curious look.

"Wait, I still have one more thing to say." Aang said with a slight nervousness in his voice.

"What is it Aang?"

"I just want to apologize for kissing you without your consent. It was wrong and it will never happen again." Katara looked back at him and gave him a slight smile

"Its okay Aang I already forg-" Katara was cut off by Aang

"No it's not okay, that was the second time I kissed you without your consent and that is not acceptable. I promise to never kiss you again without your consent." Aang was sincere and meant every word he said. He would never kiss her again without her consent. He would always respect her boundaries for now on.

"Apology accepted, Aang I forgive you." Katara responded truthfully and began to walk towards the door, but turned around to say something

"By the way Aang, once we become a couple after the war. You have my consent to kiss me whenever you want." She meant this and she could not wait until the war ended so she could spend everyday with her new boyfriend.

"Well then I can wait until I defeat Ozai!" He said with a laugh. "Good night, Katara" Katara looked at him and blushed.

"Good night, Aang"

OoOoOoOoOoOoO

Katara and Aang went to bed at peace and with a smile on their face. "I have never been this happy before. Life's good" They both thought before they fell asleep.

The end.
