Chapter 10

I ended up telling a bunch of stuff to Sans at Grillby's since no one else was there for breakfast other than him and Grillby himself. But Grillby simply nodded at everything I said and didn't think much of it, mostly since he rarely spoke unless it was the True Pacifist ending. I told Sans a lot of good stuff about what my world had, but I also told just as many, if not more awful stuff over my world's history, including all the wars against people, mass murder because of religion and skin tone, and their two-faced morality that they always had for every single human on the planet. And I told him what made me want to stay in this world at the end of the adventure than go back to my own, that being the recent pandemic that made everyone show the worst of humanity, spurred on by politics in the media.

"wow. that's uh... that's a whole lot of bad stuff... not a lot of good stuff to compensate for all those lost lives... so how do souls work in your world?" Sans asked.

"Well, that's the thing. Nobody in my world really knows the truth about what a soul is, so they built religions around what they believe happens whenever you die and how to achieve a certain balance. Some are easy to follow the rules, others are quite strict. And stepping out of the bounds of the more strict religions makes everyone hate you, even if it were accidental... the only good thing is that my parents, who I loved more than anyone, actually partly came to this world in my mind," I said, Sans smirking at that.

"heheheh. so your folks are down here too, huh? do you think they have souls?" Sans asked.

"Not likely. They died a month or so before I was warped to this alternate reality... and to be honest, I want to know a lot more about this world and see if it's actually nicer than my old world. I mean, sure, the humans warred against monsters because of fear, but the fear I'd say was a bit understandable, considering the strength of a monster with a human soul," I said, Asriel humming a bit in my pocket.

"welp, i'd say it'd be best to keep 'em close, kid. you never know when the things you hold dear may be taken from you in an instant," Sans said, me frowning at that.

"You're not salty about your dad still, are you?" I asked, Sans sighing a bit.

"i had a feeling that he'd ask for the sweet release of death... but i didn't expect he'd bring someone here from another world just to do the dirty... and why choose someone like you, anyways? and why not try to ask anyone else?" Sans asked in confusion. And then something shocking happened. Grillby spoke!

"I know why..." Grillby said, me gawking at him. He actually sounded like a deep-voice man that sounded powerful, yet controlled. "In this world, monsters can't really kill other monsters unless there happens to be a major power difference... Gaster is widely known as a very strong monster, even stronger than Asgore and Undyne combined... he probably needed someone with a strong soul to defeat him... someone that had a high amount of FUN, too... since you say he was lost to the Void, he had a high FUN value as well... when someone has a high enough FUN value, it makes them impossible to kill through magical attacks unless the one fighting them also has a FUN value close to their own..." Grillby said, me and Sans looking at each other and then at Grillby.

"How... did you know that?" I asked him.

"Because I've known of Gaster being lost to the Void... for awhile..." he said, me being surprised at that. "I rarely talk like this... I'm usually quiet for a reason... I know just as much as Gaster and Sans did, because my memories, like them, are also retained after every reset... every single run, I do something different off screen. I go inspect the Void Hotspots, I looked at the machine in Sans's workshop, and I even felt like garbage so that I could speak directly to Gaster... he didn't deserve the treatment he got, but I have no doubts... he died willingly, just so that everyone else can finally be happy... he's a true hero," Grillby said, me looking at Sans and him holding his hands in a shrug.

"i didn't know about that... welp, i guess i learned something new today... never thought i'd say that again..." Sans admitted.

"You can say that for all of us," Chara said and me nodding at that as I then finished my last bite of Scrambled eggs and then took my last sip of the chocolate milk.

"Well, it was nice that we could talk about this, Sans... and you too, Grillby... we should probably get going before the lunch rush comes in," I smiled, the fiery dude nodding at that.

"Be careful on your journey..." Grillby said, me nodding while walking out the door and Sans simply teleporting away after exiting the place.

"Okay, I really need to ask him for teleportation lessons. It'd be awesome to warp all over the place," I smiled at that.

"Really? That's all you want to learn about magic? Because you could do a lot more stuff if you happen to put in the effort," Asriel smiled at me.

"Of course I want to try out other forms of magic, kid. I just think I'd want to learn teleportation first, since it'd be way too easy to pull pranks on people with that technique," I smiled widely.

"What kind of pranks?" Chara smirked at me.

"I could break into someone's house while they're away and put a random item all throughout their house. Hehe, I remember this funny show where these guys made their friend go on a scavenger hunt while they put his entire house interior inside of wrapping paper. The light bulbs, the cups, the bananas, even the baby blocks were all wrapped up in gift wrap," I smiled, Chara giggling at that and Asriel chuckling.

"Yeah, that does sound pretty funny. And the best part is that they'd probably not want to clean it up either," Asriel chuckled.

"Was he upset about it?" Chara asked.

"Nope, he was actually amused and impressed at how good his friends got him," I smirked as we then got to the area of Waterfall and we saw that Monster Kid was there as well as Sans manning his post. And then, the kid noticed me and immediately ran to me.

"Hiya, bud! Did you come here to see her too?" the kid asked, me smirking at that.

"Who again?" I asked.

"Undyne of course! My friends said Undyne was nearby! I think it'd be totally awesome if I got her autograph! My parents are such jerks for saying I can't leave the house," the kid said, me smirking at them. Just as they were depicted in the game, they were a little reptilian monster with spikes on their head, wearing a yellow and brown-striped shirt, and they wore some brown pants, the only major difference in appearance. They also had a small yellow tail and adorable little feet.

"Sounds like fun. How about we go together?" I smirked.

"Alright! That sounds sweet! I'm Monster Kid, what's your name?" they smirked, me looking a bit perplexed at how they called themselves that.

"Um... I'm Indie Gamma. So... who was the one to name you that?" I asked.

"Well, I gave myself that name... Asgore named me something really dumb when I was born, so I just call myself Monster Kid and insist everyone do the same," they smiled.

"Okay... why not shorten it up to MK or Monnie?" I asked, them smirking at that and wagging their tail excitedly.

"WOW! That sounds way easier to say!" they smirked.

"By the way, I'm a bit curious... are you a boy or a girl? Because it's kind of hard to tell," I admitted.

"Oh, I'm a girl. I want to grow up to be just like Undyne one day. Grow up to beat up bad guys and be the head of the Royal Guard... that's my dream!" Monnie smiled.

"Keep those dreams high, kid. It might just happen one day," I smirked at her, MK smirking at that and giggling as we then went down the path a bit... that is, until I happened to find something that was right next to the first bit of tall grass. A very old and dusty tutu of pink, Chara frowning at it.

"That tutu belonged to the third one to fall down here... her name was Juliet and she was a very honest person, and performed ballet to befriend the monsters... it worked for all of them but Undyne, who got her with the green soul attack and took her to Asgore for execution," Chara said with a sigh.

"Yeah, but that's her job, so it's not like it's any surprise that it happened," I said, Chara nodding as we then went into the grass to see MK was in there and she was poking her head out to a high cliff to the north. I looked out along with her and saw that Undyne and Papyrus were talking.

"H-HI UNDYNE... SORRY I'M LATE... I HAD ERRANDS TO RUN... YES..." Papyrus said with worry as I could see sweat coming from his bones. "ANYWAYS, ABOUT THAT HUMAN I CALLED YOU ABOUT YESTERDAY..." Papyrus said with unease.

"Did you fight them?" Undyne asked, her sounding a bit deep-voiced for a girl and sounding pretty brash, which I expected.

"UM... O-OF COURSE I DID. I FOUGHT HER VALIANTLY!" Papyrus said, him lying, which was unlike him.

"Did you capture them?" Undyne asked.

"WELL... NO... I TRIED, UNDYNE, I REALLY DID, YOU HAVE TO BELIEVE ME... IT'S JUST... THINGS COME UP, THINGS CHANGE... YOU KNOW HOW IT IS, DON'T YOU?" Papyrus said with worry as Undyne then growled angrily before groaning.

"If you want something done right, you gotta do it yourself, I guess. Don't worry, Papyrus. I'll take their soul while destroying every single piece of their puny body!" Undyne exclaimed angrily.

"Um... Y-YOU DON'T NEED TO DESTROY HER... YOU SEE... I..." Papyrus was about to say before Undyne then shut him down with a very powerful punch of words.

"Well, if you have a problem with that, then maybe the Royal Guard isn't for you," Undyne said with her tongue as sharp as an axe, Papyrus then gulping... somehow.

"I... I UNDERSTAND... I'LL HELP IN ANY WAY THAT I CAN," Papyrus said with worry as MK then shuffled a bit in the grass from excitedness and it gave away our location, me hiding back in the grass as Undyne then approached the very edge of the cliff, spear in hand.

"Hi, Undyne! I LOVE YOU!" MK exclaimed giddily after jumping out of the grass, Undyne then leaving soon after and me not moving from my spot until I knew she was gone. I then left the grass to see that MK was very excited. "Yo, did you see the way she looked at you? That was AWESOME! I'm SOOO jealous! What'd ya do to get her attention?" she smirked widely.

"No clue, kid," I smirked at her as I then felt my heart thumping again. Flowey was nearby. "Come on, let's go see her beat up some baddies, huh?" I smirked.

"You read my mind, Indie! Haha!" MK giggled as we then ran off, but MK did trip and fall on the ground, me then grabbing her little body and placing her back on her feet again. "Heh, thanks. It's a bit hard to balance without arms," she smirked.

"I can only imagine," I smiled at her.
