Chapter 15
Seeing the Amalgamates behind a screen with cartoony graphics? That was easy. But seeing these poor souls in person? It was like I had walked into a horror game simulator. Endogeny convulsed all over and was so matted with fur that it looked creepy enough, but then you saw the ghostly eyes of the dogs inside of its legs and it completed the spooky vibe for them. Meanwhile, Lemonbread immediately hissed at me with their teeth chattering the moment they saw me, me hearing all of their voices speak at the same time in an echo.
"WELCOME TO MY SPECIAL HELL!" they all spoke at the same time, it being a mismatched jumble of all three of the monsters that made them up. Then the three Memoryheads looked like a horrible fusion of heads that were fused together, kind of like the soulspawn enemies from Dragon Quest, but all different colors with different heads, me noticing that they looked to be different monsters from all over the Underground. Reaper Bird looked like they were emaciated with their super thin body and they all spoke at once, and just like in the game, it was incomprehensible to hear them talk, but they looked the most calm of the bunch... unlike So Cold... I couldn't even look at her with a smile on my face. She looked like she was suffering the most, her entire body looking to be partially melted as she was hunched over, her Vegetoid eyes barely able to stay open with her beak looking chipped in the process.
And the most surprising was Watcher, as I called them. The Amalgamate that existed as a kind of hidden secret that appeared only in the bathtub and in the bedding area if you laid down in a bed for long enough. They actually looked like they were made up of some of the NPC monsters, namely the black slime from MTT Resort, one of the bunnies from Snowdin, and a flame person like Grillby... though the flames in this case looked more like loose flesh that constantly moved in a flame pattern.
"O-Oh my... t-this is... this is very scary..." MK gulped as they hid behind me, me petting their head to make them more at ease and Alphys sighing.
"Okay... it's lunchtime, guys... also, I have one final experiment... I just hope it works..." Alphys said as the Amalgamates all began to eat their food, Alphys looking at me with a small frown. "Here's the plan... you have to let your soul out and have it touch each of the test subjects... if it goes as planned, then they'll absorb the FUN from it and be able to separate from each other..." Alphys said, me nodding at that as I let out my soul and then tested it out on Lemonbread first, since I had the promise to keep to Shyren... and what happened afterwards was nothing short of a miracle.
The moment my soul connected to Lemonbread, their body actually began to shine as I then saw a bright flash happen shortly afterwards... and when the light died down, everyone in the room was surprised by what had happened. Though they were still black and white in color, all three of the monsters laid on the ground and were separated from each other! I couldn't believe my eyes and neither could Alphys or MK!
"Oh my god... you just saved them!" Asriel gawked, me so surprised that I didn't notice something else that happened. The moment the Amalgamates saw what had happened to Shyren's sister, Aaron's relative, and the Moldbygg, all of them touched my soul all at once, though at different intervals. The blinding light that happened shortly after was blinding, me needing to shield my eyes as well as MK's from the brightness of it... but once it died down, the end result... it was the perfect happy ending for all of them. Every single one of the combined monsters was now their own separate being... and I looked at Mrs. Snowdrake immediately, seeing that she was panting in and out and looked the most happy of all of them, her being one of the 70 percent that was awake at the end of the show.
"F-Finally... I... I'm freed from that... that horrid existence..." she said with a sigh before then giving a small chuckle, MK immediately rushing to her and gasping.
"Mrs. Drake! I-I'm so glad you're okay! Snowy's been worried a lot about you," MK smiled, Mrs. Drake smiling at the kid.
"I'm relieved... to see you're well... Norarm," Mrs. Drake said, MK blushing at that and me simply smiling.
"U-Um... it's MK right now, okay?" she said, me looking at the little tyke with a smile.
"Now I see why you gave yourself a nickname, kid. Don't worry, I'd do the same thing," I admitted to her. Alphys then looked pretty shocked before her smile formed, her then hugging be tightly and me smirking and hugging her back. "So, about 30 percent of these guys are still unconscious... so what do we do for them?" I asked, Alphys looking at them and listening for their breathing. They were and they looked like they were having very good dreams.
"I think that I'll need to call someone to keep watch over them until they wake up... someone that sent me that love letter," Alphys said, me smiling at that as she then took out her phone and dialed it, Undyne picking up shortly after. "H-Hey Undyne... I wanted to tell you some good news," Alphys said, her humming a bit and then smiling. "The test subjects are all healed up now! But some of them went unconscious from getting the FUN inside of them, so they'll need someone to keep watch over them until they wake up. Could you and the other Royal Guard members come over and keep an eye on them for me?" Alphys asked, me smirking as Alphys smiled widely. "Thanks, Undyne... I love you too... okay, bye," Alphys smirked as she then hung up and I noticed that a couple of the comatose monsters had woken up, those being a Migosp, a relative of Tsunderplane, and a Froggit, them making up one of the Memoryheads in total.
"Doc... thank you," said the voice of Sir Whims as she then hugged Alphys and I smiled at how Sir Whims was actually a female.
"Let's go home, all of us," Astigmatism smiled as I then led all of the ones that were awake to the elevator with Alphys staying behind in the meantime. We had to take a couple of trips, considering that the elevator had a weight limit, but after four trips, we got all the conscious monsters to the top and into Alphys's home, where I then looked at them all with a smile.
"Okay, guys. Whenever you see your loved ones, I want you to tell them what happened here. But tell them that the fusion between you guys was an accident and that's why Alphys didn't want to tell anyone what happened. Okay?" I said, them all nodding at that and agreeing in their own ways.
"We know that already, human. And we want to thank you as well... if it weren't for your soul's odd powers, we'd still be stuck together. So take this as a token of our gratitude," said one of the dogs' relatives as she then gave me a small hug and then she gave me a hush puppy, which made me smile.
"I wish you guys the best," I smiled, them smirking and then going home from the west, which made me smile.
"That... was epic," GG said in my head.
"Yo, it sure was... I'm not going to lie, seeing those guys in that state was kind of spooky... but you healed them up super fast!" MK smirked.
"To be brutally honest, I was scared when I saw them as well... it felt like I'd entered a horror game or something... the spookiest of their combined ones would be the dogs," I said, Chara nodding at that.
"I'd personally rate Lemonbread or Reaper Bird as being creepier," she frowned. I then got a call on my cell phone and answered it, knowing it was Papyrus from the number.
"Hello?" I smiled.
"HEY THERE, HUMAN! I JUST GOT A SUPER COOL UPDATE FROM UNDYNE AND A COUPLE DIFFERENT MONSTERS! APPARENTLY, YOU SAVED A LOT OF LIVES BY DOING... SOMETHING," Papyrus smiled.
"I did. I'm sure that Undyne or Alphys could explain it to you, unless the monsters you met already did so," I smiled.
"YOU BET THEY DID! AND UNDYNE TOLD ME OF A SUPER IMPORTANT MISSION INVOLVING SOME OF THE MONSTERS YOU SAVED, SO I'M ON MY WAY TO ALPHYS'S LAB HOUSE AS WE SPEAK! I'M OFFICIALLY DOING ROYAL GUARD WORK!" Papyrus said, me smirking at that. "ANYWAYS, I NEED TO HANG UP NOW, THE DOGS ARE COMING SOON. SEE YA," Papyrus smiled, me then bidding him farewell before hanging up. Undyne was the first to arrive and she looked at me with a smile on her face.
"So, did she get the letter?" Undyne smiled at me.
"Yep, she did. And as for the test subjects? The reason she didn't let anyone know about them is because, after being injected with too much Determination from the human souls, their bodies lost their physicality, they melted into one another, and they became combined creatures known as Amalgamates... and let me tell ya, some were scary to look at and others were saddening to look at, Mrs. Snowdrake especially," I said, Undyne nodding at that.
"Yeah, Mrs. Drake met me on the way here. She said that she was always fighting for control and that her body was actually in bad shape when combined with, get this, 16 other monsters... I can't imagine how bad it was for the others," Undyne admitted as she then went to the elevator and went down it, me then seeing Papyrus and the guard dogs appear and them smirking at me and barking at me happily, minus Papyrus.
"Ah, weird smell!" Dogamy smiled as he came up and petted me on the head, followed by Dogaressa and Lesser Dog.
"You saved our family members from something called Amalgamate syndrome! We can't thank you enough! Can I please give you a lick on the face?" Dogaressa smiled, me giggling at that.
"Go ahead," I smiled, her then licking me on the cheeks a couple times and me giggling at how it actually felt ticklish.
"Hon, that's enough. We don't want to come off as unprofessional here," Dogamy said, me smirking at that.
"Well, we're all kinda being unprofessional right now... you do know that girl's a human, right?" Doggo asked, the other dogs being a bit surprised at that before then looking at me and I nodded.
"Y-Yeah? Well, it doesn't matter anymore what she is! She saved all of our kin and many others from some kind of freaky lab test gone wrong! We're going to help her until the end of time!" Lesser Dog smiled widely, me being a bit surprised that she spoke.
"AND THE FIRST THING WE CAN DO TO HELP OUT IS TO GO DOWN AND DO THAT SPECIAL MISSION IN ALPHYS'S LAB! NOW, WHICH WAY DO WE GO, INDIE?" Papyrus asked with his usual flamboyance.
"That sliding door that says restroom? That's actually the elevator to the lab," I said, pointing it out to them. "Your special assignment is to look after the monsters that fell unconscious when they split apart from their combined states and report to Alphys or me if anything happens. Okay?" I said, the dogs and Papyrus giving the army salute before then going to the elevator and descending, me looking at Chara and MK with a smile... but then I could feel it. My heart pulsed again. Flowey was near. VERY near. I looked around before I then saw the little weed appear three feet in front of me, him looking at me with a face that I could only describe as 'wtf' face.
"Well, this is unusual for you to do. Appearing directly in front of me in an area with lots of traffic," I said, Flowey looking at me and actually sensing something... off. He looked a bit... well, worried.
"H-How much FUN is in that soul of yours?" Flowey asked, me smirking at that.
"According to my friend, who's an expert on the stuff, my soul is actually infinitely fueled by FUN with just a sliver of Determination. What's it to you, anyways?" I asked, Flowey looking at me before I then noticed something... different. He looked like he was about ready to cry.
"I... I can't explain why... but... whenever I'm near you... I can feel emotions... why? Why can I feel emotions again? It's... it's frightening to me!" Asriel said, me looking at MK and her looking just as confused as I was.
"To be honest, I have trouble believing you, Flowey. Because you aren't really a trustworthy person," I said, Flowey sniffling a bit before the tears then came forth, me now knowing that something was up.
"PLEASE! I don't want to go back to being unable to feel again! Just, please, I beg of you, give me mercy!" Flowey cried, Chara looking at him, since he couldn't see her. She then looked at me and spoke to me.
"He's telling the truth. I can tell," Chara said, me then deciding to do something daring.
"Prince," I said, the flower looking at me in utter confusion when I said that.
"W-What did you... c-call me?" Flowey asked with a small snivel of pollen.
"I called you what you are. The Prince of the Underground, Asriel Dreemurr, right?" I asked, the flower looking at me in sheer shock afterwards.
"H-H-How did you know that?" he asked.
"I'll only tell you if this plan of mine works," I said as I then got into my inventory and pulled out something that made Flowey look shell-shocked.
"W-What?... W-Where did... where'd you find this?" Flowey asked.
"Behind a secret door that was previously unable to be opened. Provided by someone that had just as high a FUN value as I do. You know what it is, right?" I asked, the flower sniffling in at that.
"Y-Yeah... it's... my soul..." he said, me nodding at that.
"Not just your soul. Chara's soul as well... I want to test something. I'm going to give you this soul. But if you do anything nasty afterwards, I'll enact your code right onto you until you cough the soul back up. Got it?" I said, Flowey nodding at that.
"P-Please..." he sniffed in, me then giving him his soul just as the elevator door opened up. And when I did, what happened next? It was incredible. Flowey's body became enveloped in a bright light as his form then changed from his flowery state... into what he looked like before. He was now his old self again... just without clothes on his body. And the one to walk in just as this happened? It was Alphys.
"O-Oh... Oh my god... I-Is this... actually happening?" Alphys asked in sheer surprise as Asriel then looked at me and then held his furry hands in front of him, folding them in and out before then sighing.
"Finally... I was so tired of... not feeling anything... and being a flower..." Asriel said, Chara then smirking at him happily.
"Can you see me, bro?" Chara asked, Asriel gasping at that and looking directly at her.
"C-Chara?" he asked, him then holding his hand out and touching Chara's face, me smirking at how he was able to do so.
"Hey, uh, kid?" I said, getting his attention.
"Yeah? What is it?" he asked.
"You think you'd want to put something on? You're uh... you know... commando right now," I said, Asriel then looking down and immediately covering himself with his hands shortly after.
"Don't worry, buddy, here, take this. It may look silly, but it'll work," MK smiled as she wiggled out of the tutu and gave it to Asriel, him then putting it on and me smirking at him.
"Well, I'd say this is a very eventful moment, wouldn't you say, Alphys?" I asked, me looking over and seeing that she was too stunned to move.
"I... I-I..." she stuttered, me smirking and approaching her before then holding a few fingers in front of my face.
"Speak to me, woman. How many fingers?" I asked, her still stuck in shock. "Hm... Ah! Idea," I smiled as I then whispered something in her ear. "Undyne says that you're her hotbaby," I smiled, Alphys then blushing and gasping herself awake shortly after, me giggling at that. "There we go, you're back now," I said, Alphys then smacking me on the cheek for saying that, but it didn't do anything but leave a small red mark. "Well, it worked, didn't it?" I asked, Alphys then sighing and breathing in and out slowly and deeply.
"O-Okay... I'm calmed down now... I... I was just a bit shocked at... well, this!" Alphys said, her looking at Asriel and me then looking at her.
"And I do believe that you owe this kid an apology," I said, Alphys looking at me in worry.
"W-Why?" she asked.
"Because of you creating him as a flower with your Determination experiments, that's why," I said, Alphys then sighing at that.
"Asriel... please... forgive me," Alphys said, Asriel smiling at that.
"You're forgiven, Alphys... I just hope that this timeline doesn't reset... especially after having so many positives to it," Asriel said.
"don't worry about it, kid," said a voice I didn't expect to hear from behind us. It was the skeleton of puns, right behind Asriel and I could tell he stiffened up a bit at his voice. "my machine back home tells me that there are no more abnormalities in the flow of time... guess my pops was right about what he said before... that his death would lead to the world being back to normal," Sans said, me being surprised at that.
"Wait, wasn't that machine broken, though?" I asked.
"nope, that one is a decoy. the real one is actually hidden in an even more secret area... it's hidden in a patch of grass in a secret tunnel in the waterfall, one that only i can access," Sans said, me knowing what piece of grass he was talking about. It was one that could only be accessed by messing with the game's codes and it was filled with secretive dialogue about Gaster specifically.
"Really?... I never would've guessed," I admitted.
"yep... if all the rest of this adventure goes as planned, then we can finally have the happy end we've dreamed of... but you should probably get goin' on your way through hotland, kids. it's almost 11 now and azzy's mom is pretty fast for being so old," Sans said, Asriel smiling at that.
"He's not wrong," Asriel said with a chuckle as we then went off on our own, but not before I gave Alphys my phone with a smile.
"Please have this phone upgraded, please?" I asked, her nodding at that as she then went to her workbench and proceeded to fix the phone up in a snap, me counting the time it took and seeing that it was actually up to 20 seconds total as opposed to the 4 seconds from the game.
"Here you go. It's got a cool key chain, inventory options, access to the Undernet, a jet pack, and a justice shooter option," Alphys said, me smirking at her widely.
"Thanks, Alphys... now if you'll excuse us, we've got a very important phone call to make to a certain old lady," I said, MK and Asriel giggling at that as well as Chara shaking her head as we then moved to the right and I then decided I'd call Toriel just to spill the good news.
