Hi everyone, thanks again for your patience. I hope everyone is doing alright with all this coronavirus stuff going around. If any of you or your loved ones have been affected in any way from the virus itself or your occupations or other aspects of life have been disturbed from this pandemic, we're all in, allow me to express my utmost sympathies. All we can do is hope for the best as many good doctors and health organizations are doing everything they can to help us.

Hopefully this update to my most popular story will help to relieve some of the stress that we are all currently experiencing (I know it helps me to relieve my stress as I write). So, with that being said, let's get started with this new chapter

The Grand Magic World

The entire area around Fairy Tail's makeshift camp rocked, as Modeus and Azuma slid past each other, with an explosion erupting from behind right as they landed. Azuma was the first to turn around and attack. "Bleve!"

Modeus turned around as an explosion was shot at him, but he was already prepared. "Demon Sword: Residual Moon!" Modeus slid under the blast as a white crescent-moon-shaped energy formed on the blast itself before it exploded further and dissipated.

"Ramus Sica!" Azuma shot multiple razor-sharp bladed branches out from the trees all around Modeus right at the demon swordsman; but Modeus was able to move his blades at a rate fast enough to slice and intercept them. However, Modeus himself seemed complexed from the magic Azuma was employing.

'At first, I thought he was using some sort of fire or explosion-based magic. But he's able to use plants as well?'

Azuma suddenly appeared behind Modeus and tried to deliver a punch, but Modeus was able to block it with the flat of one of his swords. Modeus then quickly tried to slash with his other blade, but Azuma was ready. "Burst Claw!" Multiple roots erupted from the ground, infused with magic as they shot at Modeus and exploded, sending him sliding back out of the smoke on his feet.

'No, it's as if he's infusing vegetation with magic… or the earth itself is under his command. But that would mean…' Modeus' eyes widened as he could only figure out one explanation. 'No! It can't be!'

Before Azuma could press his attack against Modeus, Mira appeared from behind to try and attack. Azuma sensed a brief pressure from behind, which alerted him in time to block a punch from Mira as he crossed both his arms, but her physical prowess seemed even greater than he first thought. He was able to throw both his arms out to force her back.

'Where did that come from?' Azuma thought as he glanced at the glaring Mira. 'I barley sensed any magic power from her before. But then she suddenly gave off a tremendous sense of pressure.'

'I don't believe it.' Levy thought as she remained under the tent, close to the unconscious Gajeel, as she looked at the fight in disbelief. 'This guy's able to hold back both Modeus and Mira?!'

"Mira, you have to stay back!" Modeus suddenly warned her. "This man has power unlike any you've encountered before!"

"Modeus? What are you talking about?" Mira asked, quite surprised by the alarmed tone in his voice.

"It's called the Great Tree Arc! An ancient lost magic from the primordial world! It's one of the most powerful types of magic in this world!" Modeus stated.

Azuma smirked. "I suppose I should be impressed you figured it out. But I can't say I'm surprised, considering you were trained by someone who existed from that time; and now that I think about it, seeing how you're a demon, you've probably seen the magic with your own eyes as well. Your kind does have quite a long lifespan, doesn't it?"

"So that's the secret to his power." Mira had a serious expression on her face.

'Lost magic?' Levy thought in shock. 'But… the only type of magic like that is Dragon Slayer magic, and the only reason Gajeel, Natsu, and Wendy know it was because they were taught by dragons. So how can he have that kind of magic to?'

"How do you wield that power? It should have been lost to the ages!" Modeus questioned his opponent.

"Hence the name." Azuma replied. "I was taught by my master, Hades. In fact, every one of the Eight Kin of Purgatory is a master of a different lost magic." That revelation took Modeus, Mira, and Levy by surprise. "But that shouldn't be of any concern to you at the moment. You are facing the strongest of the Kin, and I suggest you stay focused on your current opponent."

'So, he's the strongest… but that doesn't mean the rest of his guild should be taken lightly.' Modeus thought seriously. 'But he's right, I need to stay focused on my current enemy. I can worry about the others after he's defeated.'

"Mira! This guy sounds like he's really bad news! You have to use Satan Soul!" Levy told her. "If you and Modeus fight together, I know you can take him down!"

Mira's eyes had a slight hint of worry. "I can't." She muttered, mostly to herself. "I still haven't recovered my magic enough from my fight with Dante and Lady."

Azuma's eyes narrowed slightly as he finally recognized the white-haired woman, turning to face her fully. "I know you, you're Mirajane Strauss, the eldest of Fairy Tail's legendary Strauss family. And if that's truly the case, then you must be the one known as the She-Devil."

"That's who I used to be." Mira confirmed.

"But she's still just as strong as she ever was back then!" Levy tried to deter Azuma, but that only made him more excited as he cracked his knuckles.

"Well, today must be my lucky day!" Azuma stated with a wide grin. "I get to face both the Demon of the Moon and the She-Devil all at once! Incredible!"

Modeus suddenly leapt over Azuma and landed in front of Mira, almost protectively. "I am your current opponent Azuma, face me!" He declared, while casting a nervous glance in Mira's direction. 'I heard her say she hasn't recovered her magic yet, so this could be trouble for Mirajane.'

"Big talk coming from someone who's holding back his full strength." Azuma said, causing Modeus to narrow his eyes. "Don't think I didn't notice. You're a full-blooded demon, yet you hide behind your human appearance. I can tell you've given quite a bit of effort up till now, but I can also sense even more power surging within you. I know there's more you can give to this fight. So give me all you got!"

"I can't." Modeus said, surprising Mira and Levy. He suspected Azuma wasn't the type of person to take advantage of any sort of handicap, even if he was in a Dark Guild, he was someone who'd rather face an opponent in their prime. "I don't have full control over my power just yet. If I unleashed it, you could die. I would rather not end someone's life, even if you are my enemy."

"I see." Azuma seemed to understand. "You hold value over life, no doubt a teaching passed onto you by Sparda. As one warrior to another, I can respect that. However, as a member of Grimoire Heart, I am tasked with the complete destruction of all Fairy Tail members on this island, but I'd rather do it in the thrill of combat as opposed to a one-sided execution. I would rather not do this, but if it's necessary to draw out your full power… then I have no choice."

Azuma extended his hand, and suddenly multiple roots shot up around both Levy and the unconscious Gajeel, ensnaring both of them in a tight grip as Levy suddenly screamed; catching Modeus and Mira by surprise.

"Levy!" Mira exclaimed.

A magic circle appeared on the vines with the number 180 on it, then it dropped to 179, followed by 178 in the form of a countdown.

"In three minutes, the roots holding them will detonate." Azuma stated.

Mira tried to pry the roots off Levy and Gajeel as the former struggled in their grip. "Mira, stand back!" Modeus was ready to slice at the roots with his swords.

"If you strike at the roots with any magic attack, they'll detonate automatically." Azuma warned.

"You would take hostages in order to draw a fight?!" Modeus exclaimed in anger and disbelief, facing Azuma.

"Your only hope of stopping it, is by defeating me." Azuma stated. "I would recommend both of you face me at the same time, at least that way you stand a higher chance of saving your comrades."

Modeus glared as Mira still tried to pull at the roots. "Mira, no! Don't worry about me! You and Modeus just take that creep down! We'll be fine!"

"Mira, she may be right." Modeus said as he tightened his grip over both his blades. "We can't afford to hold back, not in this situation."

Mira knew he was right, so she stood with Modeus as they both underwent their respective transformations. "Take Over: Satan Soul!" A dark magic circle appeared above her and she transformed into her Satan Soul appearance.

At the same time, a strong surge of white energy surrounded Modeus as he was engulfed in a flash of white light. The light vanished, revealing him as he stood fully clad in his Devil Trigger.

"You want our power, Azuma!? Here it is!" Modeus was the first to attack as he shot at Azuma, at a speed faster than the eye can see. Azuma's eyes widened as he instinctively ducked underneath a slice from Modeus' blade, right as all the trees behind Modeus were sliced and cut down just from the residual force of his attack.

Azuma jumped back to avoid another slice from Modeus as he unleashed another attack. "Bleve!" He shot his hand forward to blast the Devil Trigger Modeus with a powerful explosion. But this only seemed to leave him open for Mira to land a kick in his abs, sending him skidding back; where Modeus re-appeared, virtually unphased from Azuma's previous attack; slicing at his chest and sending him back even further.

Azuma fell to his knees as he felt a long bleeding cut along his chest, with a great deal of blood already oozing from it. However, this only seemed to make him more excited.

"I can't even remember the last time anybody made me bleed!" He exclaimed with a borderline mad grin. "At last! I face worthy foes! It feels amazing!" He stood back up to face the two. "As a show of my gratitude, I won't hold back either!"

Suddenly, multiple sparks shined around both Modeus and Mira, causing a massive explosion, one even larger before that shook the entire area. However, both of them flew out of the smoke, soaring right at Azuma. "Tree Fist!" Azuma summoned two massive fists from the woods around him at Modeus and Mira. Though Mira had to hold back one fist with her strength alone, Modeus was able to effortlessly slice through one to strike at Azuma, but he was able to merge into one tree quickly enough.

Even after Modeus cut down that single tree, causing it to shatter into pieces just from a slice of his sword in his Devil Trigger form, Azuma was able to emerge from a tree from behind. "Chain Burst!" Before Modeus could even react; a series of roots shot from the ground to entangle his wrists and ankles, right before they exploded, sending him flying into the air, though Modeus quickly stabilized himself with his wings.

As the timer continued to countdown around her and Gajeel, Levy could only look in absolute shock. 'Even with Modeus in his Devil Trigger, this guy is able to hold his own against him and Mira? The Eight Kin… just how powerful are they?'

Mira had ripped the tree-fist she was dealing with to shreds as she shot at Azuma to engage him in hand-to-hand combat. She threw out multiple punches and kicks, each hit created a shockwave that shook the area, but Azuma was able to effectively block all of them.

"Let our friends go!" Mira exclaimed.

"Mira! Get back!" Modeus shot down at blinding speeds, but Mira was still quick enough to dodge as Modeus sent multiple waves of white energy with several rapid swings of his blades, but Azuma punched the ground to erect a massive wall of roots to act as shield but even they were sliced to pieces.

"Bleve!" Azuma shot his hand forward, creating a condensed explosive blast that shot straight at Modeus, but he already had a counter in place.

"Demon Sword: Chaotic Moon!" With as much energy as he could muster, further enhanced by his Devil Trigger, Modeus created a massive red moon surrounded by chaotic energy, which he launched at Azuma's attack. The two attacks clashed, creating a powerful struggle between the two adversaries; however, it would seem Azuma's would give out first as the chaotic moon attack blasted at Azuma, engulfing him in a red explosion and sending him rolling back quite a bit; but he was still standing, despite being covered in injuries.

'Amazing! This power…! It's a true force to be reckoned with!' Azuma thought with a wide grin. 'It's been a long time since I've felt so alive!'

Mira attacked next. "Demon Blast!" She shot a blast of dark energy straight at Azuma, and while it scored a direct hit on his chest, he wasn't done as he shot out multiple roots from the ground to send Mira soaring into the air.

Before Azuma could press the attack, Modeus shot at him once again with both his blades, swinging at impossible speeds, but even as injured as he was, Azuma was able to dodge each slice and attack, and he still appeared to be having the time of his life.

'I can already feel my Devil Trigger draining!' Modeus thought in frustration as he continued to fight. 'I haven't practiced it long enough to regulate my power. I can't keep this up much longer!' He glanced back at the trapped Levy and Gajeel and saw the timer was already down to 28. That gave Azuma the opening he needed as he ducked and punched Modeus across his face, knocking him back slightly.

"You should know better than to look away! Burst Bomb!" He shot a series of explosive roots at Modeus, which detonated and sent him skidding back across the ground.

Suddenly, Mira appeared behind Azuma and she put him into a grip, trapping his arms in her grip while also locking her arms at the back of his head. "Modeus! Hit us now!"

No time to argue, Modeus quickly brought both his blades together as they already shined a bright white light. Already a transparent bow of white energy formed as the combined blades formed the arrow with Modeus preparing one of his most powerful attacks.

However, Azuma was far from helpless. "Tower Burst!" From the ground under him, a massive column of flame shot upward, engulfing himself and Mira. Though he was unharmed by his own attack, it was enough to blast Mira back quite a distance away and even knock her out of her Satan Soul. But even that would not stop Modeus from taking the shot.

"Lunar Goddess of the Hunt: Artemis!" Modeus shot his arrow of white light, which pierced into the tower of flame with explosive results. It almost felt like that entire portion of the island experienced an earthquake.

The smoke cleared, to reveal Azuma in the center of the crater, and on his knees, blood dripping from his mouth. His own explosion protected him from most of the attack, but he felt the shockwave rattling through his bones. However, before he could even react, Modeus, still in his Devil Trigger, was already in front of him.

'I have to make sure he stays down! At least for the time being!' With a vertical upward slice of his right sword, Modeus had completely severed Azuma's right arm. Azuma screamed in pain as he kneeled and held the empty socket where his arm once was. Now was Modeus' only opportunity.

The former apprentice of Sparda, with what little energy he had left, turned around and shot at the trapped Levy and Gajeel, with the timer only at five seconds.

"LEVY! DON'T MOVE!"

*SLASH!*

With only one second left, Modeus slid past the roots, right before they, and the magic circle with the countdown were sliced and diced into tiny pieces, easily dispelling the trap and magic bomb and saving both Levy and the still-unconscious Gajeel. Modeus had sheathed his sword samurai-style before he fell to his knees in exhaustion, just as streams of silver steam left his body and he turned back to normal.

"Modeus!" Levy quickly ran and kneeled to his level to help him. "Are you okay?"

"I'm drained…. What about… you and Gajeel?" Modeus asked in exhaustion.

"I'm fine, Gajeel's still out, but he's alright." Levy assured, causing Modeus a great deal of relief.

"I'm glad."

"Modeus! Levy!"

They both turned to see Mira limping quickly toward them as she held her arm. "I'm glad you're both okay!" She said with tears of joy in her eyes.

"I'll need rest… but… I'll be alright." Modeus assured.

"Mira? What about you?" Levy asked. "Are you okay?"

"Yeah… I'm a bit drained to…" She and Levy giggled in relief, as did Modeus, believing they were victorious, albeit barley.

Suddenly however, a large root shot from the ground and pierced through Modeus' chest from behind, much to Levy and Mira's horror.

Azuma had his remaining hand on the ground, despite still being on his knees, with blood falling out of his severed socket and mouth, but despite the pain he was in, he still chuckled.

"First rule of warfare… never turn your back… on your enemy unless you know… they're beaten." Azuma said. "I'm sure Sparda… taught you that."

Mira, Levy, and even the stabbed Modeus couldn't believe that Azuma still had some fight left in him. But that surprise stab wasn't even his full attack.

"Terra Clamare!"

The root that stabbed Modeus surged with bright orange energy, which also surged into his body, causing Modeus to scream in absolute pain. Mira sensed what was about to happen next; so, with what physical strength she had, she pushed Levy and the unconscious Gajeel out of the way just in time.

*BOOM!*

One of the largest explosions, even larger than the Tower Burst attack, shook the entire area as it engulfed both Modeus and Mira; the shockwave blasting away the screaming Levy and Gajeel's unconscious form.

When the dust subsided; Modeus and Mira both laid beaten on the ground. Though Mira was covered in burns, with Modeus already having lost a great deal of blood, with a stained puddle of it underneath him; both of them were still alive, but just barley, especially with the condition Modeus was in.

Azuma almost fell flat on the ground in exhaustion with his remaining arm serving as support as he tried to catch his breath. 'Ordinarily… that attack would be much more damaging… but with the state I'm in… I could only absorb the natural energy from this area…' He smiled. 'This was the best fight I have ever had.'

The strongest of the Kin of Purgatory slowly began to stand back up. Suddenly a series of small roots began to slowly emerge from the ground, bringing up multiple rocks from the ground as well, stretching up all the way towards Azuma, specifically toward the spot where his original right arm had been severed. The roots attached themselves, sewing into the skin as the rocks came together, almost like the bones of a new appendage, complete with five fingers, with the roots wrapping around them to serve as some form of skin. But once they finished giving the shape of an arm, they ignited with intense heat and magic energy, causing Azuma to wince slightly as he felt the heat weld it all together.

Once the orange energy vanished, his new arm was complete. It was completely black; the rocks inside all melted and solidified together into an obsidian base with the roots blackened and hardened together. Azuma flexed the fingers into the palm of his new arm before punching it forward to test it.

"Hmm, a bit heavier than my original arm. I suppose I'll have to get used to it."

Levy, the only one still conscious, could only look in absolute horror. This monster had just defeated Modeus and Mirajane at once, and even created a new arm around his body. It seemed almost impossible. Azuma then glanced towards Levy, causing her to look in even further terror.

"You needn't worry." Azuma told her. "I have no intention of killing them; there's no sense in killing an opponent when they're down. Tend to their injuries if you see fit. And if they manage to survive this onslaught, be sure to give them my thanks, for giving me arguably the best fight of my life."

Azuma turned around and proceeded to walk away, leaving a completely terrified Levy. 'The Eight Kin of Purgatory… are they all as strong as this guy…? Lucy, Natsu, Dante, all of you… please! You have to beat them! You can't lose! Please!'

Meanwhile, on a separate part of the island, Ultear continued her search for the Legendary Black Wizard. Now that she was so close towards her goal, she could just barely contain her joy and excitement.

"This path I've traveled…" She said to herself. "Such an exhausting journey. Long, and full of turmoil." She stopped for a moment as a blushing smile formed on her face, her eyes filled with so much emotion. "But today… it appears I've finally reached its end. And once I've found Lord Zeref… my soul can be at peace."

"You've been searching for me?"

Ultear turned around once she heard that voice from behind, but she looked in complete and utter surprise at who she was facing. It was none other than her intended target: Zeref himself.

"I see… you must be one of those sowing the seeds of conflict and death…" Zeref observed, as Ultear had an emotional smile on her face, having found him at last. But Zeref didn't appear the least bit happy. "It's so tragic…" A look of rage appeared on the Black Wizard's face as his eyes turned from black to a piercing red. "For you… have made me quite angry!"

Meanwhile; Natsu laid unconscious on the ground, alongside Makarov who was also out cold. Lisanna rested Natsu's head on her lap as Happy, Carla, and Lily looked with concern as Wendy casted her healing magic on Natsu. She first tended to Makarov, and once they were certain his life was no longer in danger, she turned her attention to her surrogate brother.

Despite the fatigue she was obviously feeling, Wendy refused to stop. "Wendy, are you okay?" Lily asked with concern.

"Don't push yourself too hard." Lisanna told her with concern. "You haven't even recovered from our fight yourself."

"Don't worry about me… I'm more worried about Natsu." Wendy said. "I can't heal his injuries, but I don't understand why."

Carla looked toward the unconscious Makarov. "Master's life is no longer in danger, but his wounds look as though they need more than simple sky magic right now."

"What about Natsu?" Happy asked with worry.

"I'm not entirely sure why he's not responding. But it feels as if there's something getting in the way."

Before they could express further worry, they heard some rustle in the bushes and leaves near them, instantly putting the group on high alert.

"Who's there?!" Lily was more than ready for a fight, but that proved to be unnecessary as it was friends, rather than foes, that revealed themselves.

"Hey… help… please…" Lady uttered as she carried a certain someone, his arm slinging over her shoulder.

"Lady…? what are…" Lisanna's pupils shrunk once she saw who she was carrying, however. "Dante?!"

Lady stumbled out of the foliage and into the clearing, clearly exhausted, and even injured, as she almost dragged the gravely injured and unresponsive Dante into the opening. The second Wendy, Lisanna, and the Exceed trio saw him, their faces almost palled.

"Dante?!" Happy and Wendy almost screamed.

"Quickly, set him down." Carla instructed as she and Carla flew to help Lady gently set Dante down near Natsu and Makarov. Dante was almost completely covered in blood, the injuries inflicted on him by Job still haven't healed, and his breathing was shallow and ragged.

Wendy almost gasped and covered her mouth in shock when she saw the condition he was in, even Happy and Lisanna's eyes wavered in shock. "Dante…? What… what in the world happened to him?!" Happy exclaimed as Wendy immediately began to use her healing magic on Dante, as it seemed he needed it more than anyone right now.

"One of Grimoire Heart's top guys; a Kin of Purgatory happened." Lady answered. "We just barley got away."

"Wait… are you saying… you didn't beat him?!" Lisanna voiced in terror.

"No… we didn't." Lady confirmed with a grave tone of voice; much to the shock, borderline horror, of Wendy, Lisanna, Carla, Lily, and Happy.

"I don't believe it… Dante lost?" Wendy said it in a tone that made it seem like those words could never come together in a sentence like that.

"I find it… almost impossible to believe… that someone can actually match someone at Dante's caliber." Lily said.

"The only one who can do this kind of damage to him… is his brother, Vergil." Carla added.

Happy looked in fear. "Don't tell me… Vergil's on the island to…?"

"No, it wasn't him. But it might be… someone worse." Lady replied; much to everyone's further shock.

"Worse than Vergil?!" Lisanna almost screamed.

"Lady, who exactly did you encounter?" Panther-Lily asked with a serious tone of voice "Can you describe them?"

"Some guy who looks like a priest or something." Lady began to explain. "Said he was a Devil Slayer."

That took them all by surprise. "A Devil Slayer?" Wendy questioned.

"Yeah, he had magic a lot like yours and Natsu's." Lady continued. "Only it's apparently meant for demons rather than dragons. He had some kind of light-based element, and he could refuel himself just by eating the light from the sky. His magic burnt through Dante, and… you've all seen how quickly he heals… but… he hasn't healed since the fight." Lady looked to Dante's unresponsive form with great worry.

"We met someone like that to." Lisanna said. "He called himself a God Slayer. Me, Natsu, and Wendy were able to beat him, but just barely. And, Natsu didn't come out… unscathed as you can see."

Lady's look became one of anger and frustration. "Dragon Slayer, Devil Slayer, God Slayer?! Christ! How many 'Slayers' are there?!"

Wendy continued to try to apply her healing magic to Dante's wounds. "I… I can feel some kind of energy inside him. It's like… like something's burning away at his insides…"

"It must be the residual affect from this Devil Slayer's power, and probably what's keeping Dante's wounds from healing." Carla assumed.

"Oh no…" Happy's eyes already filled with tears as he looked to the states Natsu and Dante were both in. "Poor guys…"

Makarov's eyes slowly began to open. "Even… Dante… has fallen…?"

The group turned their attention toward the semi-conscious guildmaster. "Master!" Wendy exclaimed.

"Master please… just rest." Lisanna tried to tell him.

Lady only just now noticed the guild master's condition. "Old man… who did this to you?!"

"It was Grimoire Heart's leader, Master Hades." Panther-Lily answered for her.

If Lady wasn't shocked before, she was now. 'Their leader… actually took out Makarov!? But he's one of the Ten Wizard Saints! One of the best wizards in the entire country! Grimoire Heart… just how powerful are they?!'

"Wendy… listen to me…" Makarov stuttered. "You must… cleanse the energy inside Dante… the energy that's… eating him up inside. And then… heal Natsu's scarf."

That took the group by surprise. "I need to fix his scarf?" Wendy asked in surprise as she and everyone else looked at the blackened scarf.

"The malevolent force that has tainted it…" Makarov continued to stutter. "Is what's preventing him… from being healed… much like Dante…"

"Okay I'll try. I'll save them both." Wendy stated as she applied healing magic via her left hand to Natsu's scarf and her right hand to Dante's body, trying to cleanse them both of the malevolent energies inside.

"Does anybody know what could have made his scarf turn black in the first place?" Carla asked.

"Yeah… some crybaby that me, Natsu, Happy, and Dante ran into." Lady answered. "He also had this… aura around him. Some kind of magic that… sucked the life right out of the earth."

"Sucked the life out of the earth?" Lisanna questioned, suddenly she gasped as her face became filled with terror.

"Lisanna…?" Happy noticed the terrified expression on her face.

"Lady… do you know why… Grimoire Heart is even here on Tenrou Island?" Lisanna asked.

"Don't know. That Devil Slayer guy didn't say." Lady responded.

"Apparently, they're here to find Zeref." Lisanna said, causing Lady to look in shock.

"Zeref? As in the Black Wizard? I… I thought he was a myth! Or at the very least… dead! I mean, he… he lived what four hundred years ago…? How can…" Suddenly Lady was able to put two-and-two together. "Don't tell me…."

"Yeah…" Lisanna nodded with a grave expression. "That man you met, the same one who turned Natsu's scarf black… that was probably Zeref."

As the sun slowly began to set, the sky turned from blue to orange as Ultear faced Zeref. Despite the red-eyed look of rage on Zeref's face, Ultear looked happier than she'd ever been, almost as if she was reuniting with a long lost loved one.

'It's him…' Ultear thought with a shaky smile, tears of joy already flowing in her eyes. 'After years of searching… Lord Zeref is standing right before my very eyes! I can't believe it!'

"You people have come here because you desperately seek my power?" The angry Zeref questioned as he looked ready to murder someone.

Ultear kneeled before him. "It is your entire existence we seek, Lord Zeref!"

"I won't involve myself in mankind's affairs!" Zeref stated. "Not for the remainder of this current era! I have no desire to see people wage war and die! I order you to stop your attack on this island and leave at once!"

That took Ultear by surprise, almost as if he was speaking in a foreign language to her. 'This can't be right… War and death do not interest him?' She got a good look at him. 'He seems conscious, but perhaps he's not yet aware. Maybe Mundus' power hasn't fully awakened in him? Or amnesia? Is this truly him? Is this what they call his 'state of rest'?'

Zeref's murderous look hadn't vanished from his face. "Your presence… has made me angry!"

Ultear felt fear and terror soak through her entire being, as though the grim reaper itself was looming over her. She looked toward him with an expression of pure terror.

Meanwhile; Elfman and Evergreen jumped back to avoid a large fist smashing into the ground, the fist belonging to an enormous creature that appeared heavily armored or made entirely out of metal.

"What the… where'd this big brute come from?!" Elfman questioned.

"You're one to talk!" Evergreen told him.

Rustyrose observed the fight from a high perch among the ruins. "My Guardian Saint Beast: Belcusas the Thunderclap." He introduced the massive beast to the two members of Fairy Tail. The monster threw another punch at the pair, which they just barely avoided by ducking underneath the strike and jumping back further to gain some distance.

"Did he say Belcusas the Thunderclap?!" Evergreen questioned.

"That's a pretty manly nickname." Elfman commented.

Rustyrose adjusted his sunglasses. "Angels quickly fly from fate, alas a devil always lies in wait."

"I'm sick of your angel and devil crap!" Elfman stated. "So, quit talking garbage and come fight me like a real man!"

"Belcusas, go give that 'man' the fight he so desires." Rustyrose instructed his beast.

"I was talking to you pretty boy!" Elfman exclaimed at the dark wizard.

"Fairy Machine Gun: Leprechaun!" Evergreen shot a multitude of magic bullets at Belcusas, with explosive results. However, the beast emerged from the smoke relatively unharmed, complete with a smirking face, much to Evergreen's shock. "Not even a scratch…?!"

Belcusas raised a fist to try and crush Evergreen, but now it was Elfman's turn. "So, you like monsters huh?! Take Over: Beast Soul!" Elfman transformed into his titular beast-form to block Belcusas' attack. Elfman was able to use his own strength to throw back Belcusas slightly before turning to Evergreen.

"Hey, what's the matter with you?!" The beast-man questioned. "Would you hurry up and just turn him to stone already?!"

"That only works on humans, meathead!" Evergreen replied.

"Not him, you idiot! I was talking about the man!" Elfman pointed to Rustyrose who jumped down on even ground, behind Belcusas as he simply watched the two argue.

"It won't work on him because he's wearing glasses!" Evergreen argued.

"What?! That's the lamest excuse I've ever heard!" Elfman exclaimed.

"I should use it on just so you can shut that big damn mouth!" Evergreen shot back.

"Sparks of passion erupt into flames between those in love." Rustyrose commented poetically.

"WE ARE NOT IN LOVE, ASSHOLE!" Both of them comically exclaimed at the same time.

Belcusas went on the attack once more, but Elfman blocked him and locked his grip with the larger beast. It would seem that the two were evenly matched in terms of raw strength.

"Keep that one busy, for now!" Evergreen told Elfman as she ran straight for Rustyrose. 'I figured out just how his magic works. He uses summoning spells just like Lucy. And all summoning wizards have one glaring flaw: their bodies are weak!'

Evergreen flew at high speeds around Rustyrose, erecting a brief smokescreen to temporarily blind him as she readied an attack from above. "Got you know."

However, Rustyrose didn't seem the least bit worried. "I am lord of the underworld, and my arm is a jet-black sword that cleaves through all." His right hand began to glow, much to Evergreen's surprise. "And you… will fade beyond the darkness!" His entire right hand had transformed into a bladed-arm-like appendage that he shot straight at Evergreen, slicing at her stomach and cutting up her cheek slightly as she was sent flying through the air, leaving a small trail of blood behind as she screamed before landing painfully on the ground.

"No! Evergreen!" Elfman exclaimed in shock as he struggled against Belcusas, who actually appeared to be even stronger than Elfman's Beast Soul transformation as the monster landed a solid kick into Elfman's jaw to send him up and crashing into the ground with a hard thud, right before Elfman lost his transformation.

The injured take-over wizard looked toward Rustyrose in confusion. "This guy's magic… I don't understand it…"

"I suppose I could explain how it works." Rustyrose said as he adjusted his glasses once more. "But it would prove far too difficult to understand for scum like you."

"Say what?!" Elfman questioned in anger.

"It springs from a place very close to the darkest depths of magic." Rustyrose continued. "And as a result, the side-effects it burdens me with are extremely heavy and powerful." He took a dramatic pose as he recited poetry once more. "Ah, I walk the path of life, laid in with the weight of tragedy." This only served to annoy Elfman slightly before Rustyrose continued. "But now, we've learned that the great wizard Zeref is almost within our reach… he will lift this tragic burden from our shoulders, and usher in a new and wonderous age."

"Zeref?!" Elfman questioned as even Evergreen was stunned as she tried to pull herself up.

'The Legendary Black Wizard…?! But… he shouldn't be alive! Much less on this island!'

"Oh, but Zeref himself, albeit a true and wonderous being, is only the emissary of magic itself." Rustyrose continued. "For the source of all magic, is the source of all darkness from the deepest shadows of the Underworld. Zeref's true master… our great god of magic… the Demon Emperor Mundus!"

That caused Elfman and Evergreen's pupils to shrink. 'Mundus…!? The same big shot demon Dante's old man locked up?!' Elfman thought in shock.

"So Zeref…" Evergreen stuttered. "Is… Mundus'… herald…?"

Rustyrose smiled malevolently. "And once his majesty is freed from his imprisonment, we'll enter the Grand Magic World."

"The Grand Magic World?!" Trish questioned as Caprico explained the same thing to her, Lucy, Cana, Gray, and Loke. "What the hell does that mean?!"

"A true and primal realm ruled by fear and darkness, ruled by our lord Mundus, as it should rightly be."

That earned looks of shock and terror from the five Fairy Tail members present. "Ruled… by Mundus…?" Lucy gasped.

"A province of wizards and demons alike…" Rustyrose continued. "Where those who do not share our abilities perish or tremble as they pray for death!" If Elfman and Evergreen weren't terrified before, they were now. "Isn't it marvelous!? A world made entirely for our kind alone! You seem to believe that wizards and demons are different, but we are the same! Both our power was born from Mundus! He is our god! The one true god meant to rule over all!"

"When Zeref's power awakens, he will fulfil his purpose to free Mundus from his imprisonment, and the Grand Magic World will be upon us." Meredy explained to Erza and Juvia, who were just as shocked as everyone else who already heard the details of Grimoire Heart's goal.

"Those without magic power will be annihilated!" Rustyrose exclaimed almost fanatically. "And any demons foolish enough to betray our god, such as the ignorant child of the accursed Sparda, shall suffer a fate far worse than death! We shall inherit this magical utopia! I've waited so long for this glorious day! At last it's dawn is soon to break!"

"No way…" Elfman stated, his face contorted with fear and anger.

"I don't believe it…" Evergreen voiced her terror aloud. "What he's saying… it's pure madness!"

Meanwhile; Ultear looked in fear toward the enraged Zeref as he held out his hand and a black sphere suddenly appeared. He wasted no time in throwing it at Ultear, almost like a warning-shot, which she could just barley avoid as it bore through the stone of the boulder behind her like a knife through butter.

Ultear could sense the aura of death emanating from that attack. 'If I touch it, it'll bore through me as well.' Zeref prepared the same attack once more, but Ultear stood firm. 'Obtaining Lord Zeref is at stake! I have to take the risk!'

Zeref threw the second black sphere at her, but Ultear seemed ready. "Lost Magic: Forward Arc of Time!" She accelerated the time around what was left of the boulder behind her, causing it to shatter, before she shot the fragments at the black sphere to intercept it. It was able to block the attack, but Ultear could feel the intensity of the attack alone draining her just from exposure, causing her to fall onto her hands and knees in exhaustion.

The Black Wizard looked ready to prepare a third try of the same attack, but Ultear wasn't about to give up. "Speeding the flow of time, I shall trap you in its course!" She accelerated the time around a small gathering of tiny plants around Zeref, causing them to grow exponentially and trap Zeref in a cage of thick trees, catching him by surprise. "I've got you!" She stated triumphantly.

Zeref's look became one of terror, but not out of Ultear. "Here it comes…" He muttered. "The predatory death…" He clenched his head as a sphere of the same kind of black magic from before completely obliterated the trees that he was trapped in before it expanded even further to kill off all the plants and wildlife in the area.

The same kind of magic shot straight at Ultear, but she quickly brought up her crystal ball in order of it to absorb and contain all the malevolent magic that was unwittingly unleashed by the screaming Zeref. It sapped nearly all her strength, but Ultear was able to contain all the magic, causing her crystal ball to become pitch black in her hands before it shattered completely.

Ultear looked to Zeref and saw that he appeared to be in an exhausted and weakened state, now was her chance. "Arc of Time!" She rewound the time around her crystal ball to a moment when it was intact and free of the black magic.

Zeref saw that she wasn't about to give up and it made him nervous, causing his red eyes to turn back into black. "Please tell me who you are!"

"Luminous Minutes!" She threw her crystal ball over Zeref, right before it glowed and doubled into multiple numerous orbs that shot and crisscrossed all over Zeref like multiple beams of light, causing him to yell in pain before he fell to the ground. Despite being exhausted, Ultear was able to stand back up.

"Although… your full power may be the stuff of legends… now, this pitiful state you're in is simply no match for me." Ultear stated. "Don't you dare to underestimate the leader of the Eight Kin of Purgatory!" Zeref tried to pull himself back up before he fell back down. "But Lord Zeref, do not worry." She told him in a gentle tone with a sincere smile. "For now we possess all the keys necessary to awaken you."

"Please… stop…" Zeref muttered before he finally lost consciousness.

Ultear walked slowly toward the unconscious Zeref, before gently picking him up, she soon found a nearby tree for her to rest and restore her magic power. She rested against its trunk as she cradled the unconscious Black Wizard, almost as if he were her lover.

"My lord Zeref… at last I have you all to myself… my freedom." She said as she caressed her hand against his face. "And no one can take you away from me. Through Mundus, I will make you the ruler of this world." She smiled, almost as if a strong weight had been lifted from her shoulders. "And then you will bring about my salvation."

An explosion rocked a specific corner of the island as Elfman ran for his and Evergreen's life, carrying the woman over his shoulder, with the monster Belcusas right at their heels.

"I don't think he's gonna let us go!" Evergreen stated. "If he catches us, we're through!" Elfman suddenly stopped. "Don't stop! Are you trying to kill us?!" However, when she looked back, she saw that she and Elfman were at the edge of a tall cliff. "End of the line, huh?"

A look of comic anger formed on Evergreen's face. "I've had it up to here with you! What kind of lame-brain-buffoon runs for his life without even bothering once to look where he's running!"

"You love complaining, don't ya?!" Elfman turned his back on her with crossed arms. "If that's how you wanna be, you can go the rest of the way on your own!"

In response to that, Evergreen kicked him in the rear. "So not only are you an idiot, you'd also leaved a crippled comrade to fend for herself?!"

"You look healthy as a horse to me!" Elfman argued.

Their arguing however was brought to a halt as Belcusas had caught up to them. "Not good! He's got us cornered!" Evergreen stated with worry. "And if he goes berserk this close to the edge, we'll be making craters in no time! I'm so low on power, I'm not even sure I can fly!"

Elfman's eyes widened as he suddenly came up with an idea. "I can't believe I didn't think about that before!"

"You thinking? Not a chance." Evergreen commented with a sweatdrop on her forehead.

"Those smarty-pants specs really come in handy, I should get a pair!" Elfman stated with a grin.

"They have nothing to do with my intelligence, I'm smart with or without them or did you forget that you're talking to one of the greatest…" Elfman suddenly grabbed Evergreen by the shoulders. "What are you doing?"

"No time like the present!" Elfman used his own physical strength to literally throw the screaming Evergreen over Belcusas, briefly distracting the monster as Elfman quickly ran to slide underneath it before calling to it. "Eyes forward, freakshow! Are you looking for me?!" Belcusas turned around to face Elfman. "I'm ready to throw down if you are, ugly! And I won't hold back, so give me your best shot!"

Belcusas threw a punch toward Elfman, but he was able to dodge it as the massive fist hit the ground, though Elfman's arm got grazed a bit, his plan worked to perfection. The second the monster's fist hit the ground, the entire cliff began to break apart, causing Belcusas to fall; and from the height it fell from, it wouldn't probably be getting back up again. Though Elfman was still alive, he was hanging from the ledge.

"Alright, you." Evergreen approached him, though Elfman had a pleased grin on his face.

"Yo, good work! We totally fooled…"

Evergreen suddenly pressed her foot against his face. "Next time you come up with a plan, leave me out of it! I am not bait; do you understand me!" She repeatedly kicked his face.

"A heated discussion followed by intense physical contact? Today's lovers have no sense of shame, do they?"

"SHUT UP!" Elfman and Evergreen both yelled, only to look in shock as Rustyrose had caught up to them.

"I'm impressed." The Grimoire Heart wizard congratulated. "Many have met their end by my beast, surviving the Thunderclap is a feat worthy of heroic song. It was a truly shocking turn of events to say the least, finding victory after a pitiful display. And I do mean pitiful; where was your gracefulness? My poet's soul wept in disgust!" He shot them both a death-glare. "Wizards like you are the source of my ire! You irritate me almost as much as that accursed Sparda and his son! Scum like you cannot be permitted! The Grand Magic World that our lord Mundus shall bring will snuff you out and just like that…" He snapped his fingers. "We'll be forever free!"

Elfman had pulled himself up and slammed his fist onto the ground. "You're talking about a coward's freedom! A real man doesn't need to destroy the world just to feel comfortable living in it! Don't you get it?! Most people in this world don't have magic power! You'd put them through hell and sell them out to that bastard Mundus just for your freedom!?"

"Silence!" Rustyrose exclaimed. "I will not have you speak my lord's name in vein! Those people your so worried about are mere insects. There is no place for them in our utopia!"

"I'm not going to let you do that, bub!" Elfman stated.

"You honestly think they're necessary?" Rustyrose mocked. "Tell me, what great purpose do they serve? People who can't use magic are like candles that can't be lit! They should be discarded!"

"Having magic or demonic power doesn't mean you're more valuable than someone who doesn't! All life has meaning!" Elfman exclaimed. However, he grunted in minor pain.

Evergreen noticed the large bruise on his arm that he got when he barely avoided Belcusas' attack, his arm was likely broken if not sprained as well. 'Oh no, he's injured! Belcusas must have done more damage to him than I thought!'

"Why do you care?" Rustyrose questioned further. "Afraid to lose your cash crop? That's a fine example of hypocrisy. You call me a coward, but in the end, you're afraid of being left with nothing. How pathetic!"

Elfman stood back up fully, despite his fatigue and injuries. "You're wrong… we work together to make life easier for everyone! In exchange for our services… they give us compensation…! That relationship and trust… built the world we live in… and gave birth to the guilds! I won't let you mock what we made together!" He stomped his foot down as he was more than ready to keep fighting. "This world belongs to everyone and I'll be damned if I'm gonna let you tear it down!"

Rustyrose had a disappointed expression on his face as he adjusted his sunglasses. "How sad, you don't even realize you've already lost the war. You've strayed too far from our lord Mundus, where all true magic originated form. His and Zeref's power eludes your feeble mind now, but you will learn that lesson soon. As well as that accursed child of Sparda." A twisted smile formed on Rustyrose's face. "The fate of all wizards in this world is either servitude or the grave, but as for him and the rest of you foolish farriers, the grave is your only destination."

"If that's what you think, you have a world of disappointment ahead!" Elfman ran straight at Rustyrose. "If Fairy Tai's heading for the grave, we're taking Grimoire Heart with us! Starting with you!"

"My, what inelegant language, but at least you've made your position clear." Rustyrose's right hand began to glow again. "Jet Black Sword!" The same bladed arm as before took the place of his right arm as he slashed at Elfman's chest, causing a bleeding cut to form. "Very well, if you wish to act like garbage, then you shall be disposed of accordingly!"

"Leave him alone!" Evergreen exclaimed, frustrated at the fact she had very little magic left to use, and even if she did, she doubted any of her attacks could even do any real damage.

But Elfman wasn't done yet. "You can call me garbage if you want, but you sure as well won't get away with trash-talking my friends! As a real man, I won't let you!" He stood back up, despite the blood on his chest, and was ready to charge back in.

"Oh? Is that so?" He stretched his bladed arm right at Elfman, with the intent to impale him.

"No! Elfman!" Evergreen almost screamed. However, she and Rustyrose looked in surprise to see that Elfman had not only avoided being impaled, he was able to grab onto the Jet Black Sword arm and trap it between his left arm and his side, despite being cut along the side, causing more blood to drip onto the ground.

Elfman chuckled. "I got ya now! To overcome an opponent… you gotta learn em inside and out first… right Big Sis?" Despite the obvious pain he was feeling, Elfman was able to use his Take Over magic to transform his right arm into an exact copy of Rustyrose's Jet Black Sword.

"How dare you taint my weapon with your stench!" Rustyrose looked absolutely appalled.

"You ready to die?!" Elfman was ready to lunge his new weapon at his enemy.

"In my left hand, appears a kite-shield from which no attack shall ever pass! Golden Shield!" Rustyrose's left hand had transformed into a golden shield to successfully block Elfman's attack. "Your cheap tactic has failed, now what will you do?" However, Rustyrose's smirk vanished as Elfman quickly swiped away his sunglasses, which was his intent all along.

"What's wrong, pretty boy? Don't feel secure without your specs on?!" Elfman mocked with a smirk as he crushed the sunglasses in his hand. "Do it Ever!"

Evergreen quickly took off her own glasses and closed her eyes. "I don't let many people call me by that nickname, save for Laxus and the rest of the Thunder Legion." She opened her eyes with a smirk and looked Rustyrose right in his. "But I'm in a good mood so I'll make an exception this once. Turning this drama-club reject into a pigeon perch will be the highlight of my day! No one trash talks Fairy Tail and lives! Stone Eyes!"

Rustyrose screamed as he tried desperately to cover his own eyes, however this was all faint as he smiled. "Drama-club reject, you say?"

Elfman and Evergreen could only look in shock to see Rustyrose was still flesh, and not a statue. He then slammed his Jet Black Sword arm onto Elfman's back to knock him down.

"Elfman!" Evergreen cried out, but this left her open for Rustyrose to swipe at her with the bladed appendage and knock her back towards Elfman as well. 'Why didn't my Stone Eyes spell work?!'

"Ever!" Elfman exclaimed in shock, and looked up to see Rustyrose standing over him, revealing he had a brand-new pair of sunglasses on his face.

"Such a shame, I had hopped your lover's bond would somehow move me. Alas, it seems not even a love born on the battlefield can make my poet's soul quiver. That's not to say the show wasn't enjoyable." Rustyrose mocked.

"You're glasses?!" Elfman couldn't believe it. "I crushed them with my own hands!"

"My magic is that of imagination." Rustyrose began to explain. "The Arc of Embodiment." He generated an exact copy of his sunglasses out of thin air in his hands and even waved his hand above his head to create half a dozen more pairs for emphasis. "If I envision it, I can give it shape and make it a reality."

"What…? But how…?" The weakened Evergreen couldn't believe it. "There's… no such power…"

"The embodiment of wishes is linked to Mundus, the root of all sorcery." Rustyrose continued. "While it has its limitations, I'd say they are a small price to pay. For I possess magic that is unmatched in power! And to this day, it has never been vanquished by another wizard!"

Rustyrose walked a bit away from the downed pair with a malevolent smirk. "Come forth… Dark Tower of Dingir!" Rustyrose turned around and used his Arc of Embodiment to create a massive tower that shot out of the ground, trapping Elfman and Evergreen in the walls as they were sent shooting straight up. "Turn onto all your sorrow onto the foolish fairies who follow the ways of the dreaded Sparda and return them to the refuse from wince they came!"

Despite their struggles, both members of Fairy Tail were completely stuck as the tower continued to ascend. "What the hell is this thing?!" Elfman questioned. "I can't move!"

"Elfman!" Evergreen called to him. "I…"

"Ever! You gotta hang in there!" He tried to tell her.

"I'm sorry!" She said as tears began to fill her eyes. "If only I hadn't been your partner… you might have become an S-Class wizard…! You wouldn't have lost… or been held back by a weakling like me…!" She cried.

Elfman looked in surprise at first, before a comforting smile formed on his face. "You idiot. I made it this far, because you were by my side."

She looked with teary eyes to see his smile. "Elfman…"

"I'm glad you're here… Ever."

Rustyrose happened to hear their exchange and had a small smile on his face. "Now weeing, to the ends of darkness." He snapped his finger, before the entire tower exploded in a bright flash of purple light, engulfing Elfman and Evergreen as they reached out and held each other's hands.

Meanwhile; Dante's eyes slowly began to open as he tried to pull himself back up, he looked toward his chest to see that all his injuries had completely vanished, much to his surprise. "I'm… what… what happened…?"

"Dante!" He was almost smacked back onto the ground as Wendy ran and wrapped her arms around his body. "I'm so glad you're okay!"

He was surprised, but even more so to find Lady, Natsu, Lisanna, Happy, Carla, and Lily all around him with smiles of their own.

"Glad to see you're back on your feet buddy." Natsu said, with his scarf having been turned back to its normal white color.

"All of us were really worried about you." Lisanna also said.

"How… how am I healed…?" Dante asked, quite surprised as the injuries he sustained from his fight with Job were incredibly severe, if not life-threatening.

"You can thank Wendy for that." Carla said.

"Aye, once she used her healing magic to clear out all that Devil Slayer gunk inside you, your wounds just healed on their own." Happy added.

"It was quite an unusual magic. Some of us feared you wouldn't make it." Panther-Lily commented.

Dante looked to Wendy as she pulled away. "Thanks kid, I owe you big time." He smiled at her.

"It was no problem." Wendy smiled. "But if you really wanna thank someone, you should thank Lady. She carried you all the way here and found us."

"Yeah, you saved my ass again. Thanks." Dante smiled at Lady honestly, causing her to blush as she looked away.

"Well, were partners… so I'll just put in your tab."

"I already paid off my tab to you." Dante pointed out with a joking smirk.

"Then I'll start a new one." Lady joked back, resulting in some chuckles from everyone else.

However, Dante's smile vanished as he glanced to his right and he saw the unconscious form of Makarov. "Gramps?! What happened to him?!"

The happy mood came to an end as this subject was brought up. "Grimoire Heart's leader, Master Hades. He defeated Master Makarov in single combat it would seem." Carla answered.

"Their master?" Dante voiced in surprise as a serious expression formed on his face. He remembered just how strong Makarov was, considering he was the one who destroyed Temen-ni-gru with Fairy Law. 'This Hades guy was able to beat the old man by himself? Guess there's a reason why Grimoire Heart's one of the top dark guilds.'

"Dante…" Lisanna got his attention. "I don't know if you noticed, but that man in black you, Natsu, Lady, and Happy met, the one who turned Natsu's scarf black, is Zeref."

"The Legendary Black Wizard?" Dante questioned. "I heard stories about the guy, but I thought he was just like a boogieman or something."

"No, he's very real, and he's the reason Grimoire Heart's here." Natsu stated with a serious expression himself.

"And get this, apparently he's actually the herald for Mundus." Lady added.

Dante's eyes widened once he heard that name. "What?"

"Aye. One of the bad guys told us." Happy said.

"We can't know for certain if it's true, but their belief is all too real." Lily informed. "Which makes them all the more dangerous."

"And from the way our enemy was speaking, it seems Grimoire Heart worships Mundus, almost like a god." Carla added.

Lisanna's eyes narrowed. "These guys are starting to sound more like a cult than a guild."

Dante finally noticed that a certain someone was missing. "Hey, where's Trish? Wasn't she with you?" He asked Lisanna.

"We split up before the fighting started to try and search for everyone. I ran into Natsu, Happy, Wendy, Carla, and Lily; but I haven't seen Trish since then." The white-haired girl answered.

Dante's fist then slammed onto the ground, much to the group's surprise. "That damn three-eyed bastard! Why does he always do this?!"

"Dante…" Happy looked to him with worry.

"Are you alright?" Wendy asked with concern.

The red-clad Devil Hunter's back faced the group so nobody could see the troubled expression on his face. "If these guys really are working for Mundus, and Zeref is to, then we can't let a single one of them win."

Lady looked towards Dante with a more concerned expression than everyone else. Though she knew Dante was telling the truth and this really was a serious situation they were in, she also knew that this was very personal to Dante. Mundus was the one who sent those demons in his childhood that killed his mother, and nearly destroy his family. Now it seems Mundus' minions were coming back to take away yet another family away from him. Though she won't let Dante face this evil alone, and she knew nobody else in Fairy Tail would allow that either.

Natsu was about to agree with him when his noose picked up an unusual, yet familiar scent. He quickly stood up, much to everyone's surprise. "I know that smell!"

"What smell?" Lisanna asked. "Did you find any of our friends, Natsu?"

"It has to be him." Natsu's face was incredibly serious. "But why would he be on the island?"

"Who is he talking about?" Lily asked Lady and Carla

"No idea." Lady confessed.

"Wendy, can you smell it to?" Carla asked her Dragon Slayer companion.

"Uh… not really, sorry." Wendy apologized. "There's so many new scents out here, I'm having trouble who's who."

"Hey, you wanna tell us who you're talking about Flame-brain?" Dante questioned.

"Natsu, who'd you catch a whiff of? Jellal? Vergil?" Happy asked.

"No, it's that guy we met on Galaluna Island." Natsu answered. "That freaky guy with the mask."

"Galaluna Island?" Dante questioned. "You mean that place where Gray's buddy went crazy and almost unleashed some kind of super-large demon?"

"Yeah, that's the place." Natsu confirmed.

"A demon?" Lady questioned.

"Aye, a super big demon frozen in ice named Deliora." Happy confirmed.

"Deliora?" Lisanna asked as her eyes suddenly widened. "Natsu! Remember when Zancrow told us about that? He said that Deliora was part of the Baram Alliance's plan and they knew about him!"

"And if Natsu's picking up the same scent here, wouldn't that mean that guy was really a part of Grimoire Heart all along?" Happy was able to put the pieces together.

"Seems like that's the case, I can't see any other reason he'd be here." Natsu confirmed.

"Okay, I get they worship Mundus and all, but do these guys have an obsession with demons or what?" Dante questioned.

"Actually, now that I think about it…" Lisanna continued. "After we got back from Edolas, when I was catching up with Gray and Erza, I remember them telling me that Deliora was a demon that was created by Zeref."

"That's right! I also remembering Erza saying that Lullaby-flute-demon was also made by Zeref!" Happy recalled.

"I also remember you guys telling me about the Tower of Heaven." Wendy said. "How Jellal was brainwashed into using it to try and resurrect Zeref."

"Man, you guys have had some pretty wacked up adventures long before we joined." Lady commented.

Dante seemed to get the track. "And if Grimoire Heart and the Baram Alliance were pulling the strings behind all that, I'd say they've probably been looking for Zeref for a long time."

"And if Zeref could truly create his own demons, then perhaps he truly is aligned with Mundus." Carla assumed. "Considering Mundus is the Demon Emperor, I can only assume that he must have granted Zeref the ability."

"Yeah… but there's still one thing that doesn't make sense." Dante said.

"What would that be?" Lily asked.

"When Lady and I ran into Zeref, he mistook me for my old man." Dante began. "He talked like he knew him very well, but I don't think it was as his enemy. When I said I was Sparda's son, Zeref actually smiled, like he was happy to learn Sparda had a family; he even said he was glad to hear he made one. Zeref talked like he was actually friends with my dad."

"But… why would a herald for Mundus be friends with Sparda?" Lisanna asked.

"Looks we got more questions than we do answers. None of this makes any sense at all." Lady commented.

"Well I think we just found someone who can give us answers." Natsu said with a serious tone of voice. "If we find that Mask-guy and make him spill the beans, that is!"

"Sounds like a good idea." Dante stood with Natsu. "And if he isn't too keen on talking, I at least found a way to vent all this anger I'm feeling right now." The red-clad Devil Hunter cracked his knuckles.

Wendy and Happy shivered slightly; it was always pretty scary to see Dante when he was angry.

"Hang on guys, we're coming with you." Lisanna and Lady both stood up with them. "If this guy's one of the Kin of Purgatory, you might need some back-up." The youngest Strauss sibling said.

"Not to mention that Devil Slayer priest guy is still out there, and you know just how much of a pain he is, Dante." Lady added.

"Yeah, good idea." Dante agreed, thinking it be a good idea to have some back-up.

"Wait! I want to come to!" Wendy stood up.

"No Wendy, you say here." Dante told her. "Look after Gramps. Happy, Carla, Lily, you guys to. The four of us can handle this."

"Wendy, I believe that may be for the best." Carla told the young Dragon Slayer. "There could be another Kin of Purgatory lurking nearby."

"Agreed, worst case scenario, the three of us can fly you and Master Makarov away." Lily added. "You can use your Dragon Slayer senses to try and find any of our friends, or even the base camp and we can take cover there."

Wendy really wanted to help her friends, but as she looked at the unconscious form of the elderly guildmaster, she knew he'd be an easy target for the enemy as he would not be able to defend himself. "Okay, you guys just be careful."

"Don't worry little sis, we'll be okay." Natsu assured as he, Dante, Lady, and Lisanna smiled back.

"You guys go kick some evil butt for us!" Happy cheered for them.

"You got it." Dante nodded as he turned to his friends. "Let's get going. Lead the way, Natsu."

With nothing else needing to be said, Natsu followed the scent trail with Dante, Lisanna, and Lady trailing behind.

Meanwhile, in some other random area of the island, Kain Hikaru sat at a campfire, with several whole roasted birds near the flames.

"This is a sticky situation." The overweight dark wizard said to himself as he ate one of the roasted birds. "I can't find Lord Zeref or this Dante guy, my teammates are gone, and my appetite is out of control." He ate the bird whole, including all the bones. "I know I'm eating, but my sweet-tooth is begging for a sugary treat. Luckily, I prepared for this very thing!" He reached into his pocket to pull out an ice-cream cone. "This will be glorious! I've been waiting all day just to taste you! Come to papa ice-cream cone!"

However, he looked in comic horror to find the ice-cream itself had completely melted. "NNNNNOOOOOOOO!"

At the same time, quite a distance away from the island, on a small patch of land, one of the surviving Magic Council ships, and probably the only one, had barely made it to the land as reinforcements from the mainland arrived to try and assist the injured, they were led by none other than Lahar.

"Look alive people!" Lahar commanded. "Get to the wounded to the tents along the reef at once! We must heal them quickly! We'll worry about repairs once we've secured the island!"

Suddenly, Mest appeared right behind Lahar, looking worse for wear, much to Lahar's surprise. "Doranbolt?" Lahar addressed him by his real name. "What happened? You look like you've been put through a meat-grinder."

"Don't worry about me." Doranbolt replied. "How are the crew members?"

"The only ones still remaining are those from this single ship." Lahar answered. "Most of them only have minor injuries… I just wish I could say for everyone else on those other ships."

"What about the communication lacrima?" Doranbolt asked.

"It still works." Lahar replied. "Now can you tell me what happened out there?"

"I was making progress, next thing I know a three-way-war between Fairy Tail, Grimoire Heart, and Zeref explodes in my face." Doranbolt answered, causing Lahar to look in shock as Doranbolt looked back towards Tenrou Island. "The attack on the ships was Grimoire Heart's dirty work. Where is the communication lacrima? The Council needs to know what's happening here!"

Lahar's body shook as he had a pretty good idea how the Council would respond to this. "This can't be coincidence! The biggest thorns in our side somehow wind up gathered together at the same place?! If I were a gambling man, I'd say this game was rigged! The Chairman won't hesitate! You know how he is; as rigid as steel and swift to carry out judgement. With an opportunity like this in front of him… especially with the warning Dante left the entire Council…. threatening to wage war against them… he may just decide to wipe them all out, if only to set an example!"

"An Etherion blast!?" Doranbolt looked to Lahar in shock.

"If the Chairman does resort to that, we have no choice but to obey." Lahar said in grim tone.

"Out of the question!" Doranbolt exclaimed. "I know that the Council's has had it in for Fairy Tail for a long time now, but they don't deserve the same fate as Zeref or Grimoire Heart! Come on Lahar, you were there when Devil Hand ran amuck with Temen-ni-Gru! Quite frankly, I'm actually surprised the Chairman didn't resort to an Etherion back then to!"

"According to Org, the Council didn't want to use an Etherion during that whole mess because there was a risk that we'd accidentally tear a hole into the Demon World." Lahar said. His face carried a sorrowful, yet reserved expression. During that Devil Hand incident, he actually gained a sense of respect for Fairy Tail and he knew that despite their troublesome nature, they weren't evil. However, orders were still orders.

"But if I'm ordered to execute them… that's what I'll do… no matter how much I don't want to." Lahar said in a grim tone, much to Doranbolt's surprise as he instantly thought of Wendy. Though he did trick and manipulate her, there was some reluctance in doing so, and he'd be lying if he said he didn't grow to care about the girl. "Now, will you tell HQ, or should I?"

Meanwhile; in a tunnel near a large set of ruins; Trish, Gray, Lucy, Loke, and Cana continued to square off against Caprico as he revealed the full details of Grimoire Heart's plan to release Mundus and bring about the Grand Magic world.

"What you're talking about is genocide!" Loke stated.

"Only ten percent of the human population will be allowed to live?!" Cana voiced in horror.

"You honestly think that will work?!" Lucy exclaimed. "People will fight to the end! Till there's no world left!"

"Against the likes of our lord Mundus, not even the strongest wizards in Earthland will survive." Caprico replied. "This world shall become inhabited by demons and only the most powerful of wizards, those that choose to follow our lord's wisdom that is. It is futile, the Black Wizard will be ours, and once he is, the world you know will vanish. Once all the fire and dust have settled, it wil be reborn!"

"Not happening!" Trish shouted as she wielded the Devil Sword Sparda, charging it with her own lightning. "I won't let it!" She shot at Caprico, but he ducked underneath the slice and delivered a kick to her abs to send her back towards the group.

Caprico chuckled slightly. "You wield the blade once wielded by the Dark Knight, quite ironic don't you think? I know your past Trish, but do they?" Caprico asked the blonde demon as she pointed towards her friends.

"The hell does it matter?!" Gray questioned. "We already know she's a demon, but we don't care about that!"

"Not just any demon." Caprico said. "Tell me Trish, did you ever tell them that you actually used to serve Mundus?" Trish's eyes narrowed, as Lucy, Gray, Cana, and Loke looked in surprise.

"That was a long time ago." Trish confirmed.

"Wait… so, it's true?" Cana looked in shock.

"You… you used to work for Mundus?" Lucy's eyes wavered as Trish's own look contorted one of self-frustration.

"Did Dante ever mentioned to any of you how Trish bares a resemblance to Dante's deceased human mother?" Caprico continued. "This is not a coincidence. Mundus created Trish and specifically shaped her to bear such a resemblance, all to play on Dante's emotions, to weaken his resolve and leave him open for Trish to slay him." That took everyone else further by surprise, save for Trish as she looked more and more frustrated, gritting her teeth. "But, it would seem that Dante changed her mind for some reason, though I can't imagine why. However, Trish, if you were to renounce these fools and join us, I guarantee Master Hades will welcome you into our ranks, perhaps even among the Kin." He offered his hand out with an evil smile. "Wouldn't it be nice to once again let the darkness out?"

In direct response, Caprico was hit with a blast of lightning from Trish's hands and sent crashing to the wall. "Go to hell you damn bastard!" She exclaimed emotionally.

She then turned to face the surprised looks of all her friends, causing Trish to look in sorrow. "Guys I… what he said I… I didn't…"

"Trish, that doesn't matter." Lucy said, walking up to her. "You think any of us care where you come from? So, what if you were made by Mundus? What's important is who you decide to be, what you choose to do with your life; not him!"

"That's right." Gray added with his own smile. "No matter what, you're still one of us, and that's never going to change."

Trish had a surprised look on her face before it turned into a small smile. She already knew how open-minded Fairy Tail was, and was already used to this sort of thing as Dante accepted her even after she tried to kill him, even Lady considered her a friend.

"Thanks. I know who I am." Trish held up her hand which had the yellow Fairy Tail emblem on it. "I may be a demon, but I'm a demon of the Fairy Tail guild."

Lucy, Gray, Loke, and even Cana smiled and nodded.

"How pathetically sentimental." They looked back to see Caprico walking out of the dust, virtually unharmed by Trish's attack. "If you truly choose to side with those who stand against us, then you'll join them in the grave."

"Better to be dead and good, then live as a monster." Trish commented as everyone else readied themselves to continue their fight.

Caprico took a combative stance. "My comrades and I have three missions. The first is to seize Zeref and then deliver him safely to Master Hades. The second is to locate Sparda's son, Dante, to offer him a position in our guild; if he refuses, he will be terminated. Which brings me to our third mission, to wipe Fairy Tail from existence!"

"If you think Dante of all people would join your side, you got another thing coming!" Trish exclaimed.

"There ain't no way he or any of us are gonna die here!" Gray also exclaimed. "Why don't you come over here and I'll show you…"

"Wait!" Loke stepped forward, much to the surprise of everyone else.

"What are you doing?" Lucy asked.

"Covering your retreat." Loke answered. "Since he's just one of the Eight Kin, it's safe to say there's a seven-pack of nasties somewhere out there. Trish and I will hold him off while you hunt down the rest of his crew."

"Wait… just the two of us?" Trish asked in surprise.

"You got a screw loose?!" Gray questioned. "The five of us combined couldn't take him alone; and you wanna make the odds even lower!?"

"That's because his magic was sapping your strength." Loke explained. "Human Enslavement magic; it's ancient and powerful stuff."

"Human… enslavement…?" Cana voiced in surprise, borderline horror.

Trish's eyes widened before they narrowed. "So that's his secret."

"Wait, you know about it?" Lucy asked her.

"Yeah, it was originally a demonic power." Trish explained. "I've never seen it in action, but apparently certain demons could use a special type of magic that drains the magic of any human it affects. Some demons even used it to find a way to enslave humans to serving as their puppets. But it only works on humans, since I'm a demon, it can't affect me."

Loke's body began to glow as he shifted from his current attire, to his suit and tie worn as the Celestial Spirit Leo the Lion. "Celestial Spirits are also immune to it. Meaning, Trish and I are the only ones here who can fight evenly with this guy. You already know that he's not a demon, but he's not a human either. He's a Celestial Spirit to, Capricorn the Sea Goat."

"That's crazy!" Gray exclaimed in surprise, as everyone, even Trish, didn't expect to hear that.

"Seriously?!" Cana questioned.

"So… what, he's a rogue Celestial Spirit?" Trish questioned also.

Lucy looked in complete and utter disbelief. 'This is bad…. Celestial Spirits fighting each other?' She recalled during the Oracion Seis incident when Loke and Aries were forced to fight one another, and that was beyond painful, not just for her, but for Loke and Aries as well. 'I can't let that happen again!'

"We'll stay here and help…"

"I don't think so." Loke interrupted Lucy. "Trish and I more than capable of handling this ourselves." He pointed towards Capricorn. "How about it, Sea-Goat? Care for a no-holds-bard match against both of us?

"I accept your challenge." Caprico replied. "To be honest Leo, I was beginning to wonder whether you remembered that you were a Celestial Spirit."

"Personally, I don't care if you're a spirit or whatever." Trish said as she held the Devil Sword Sparda once more. "I won't let you hurt my friends anymore and considering your working for that piece of work Mundus, this gives me all the more reason to beat the crap out of you!" She turned back to her friends. "You guys need to go!"

"We can't!" Lucy protested.

"I hate to admit it Lucy, but he's right." Cana told her partner.

"Were just a burden without our full magic power." Gray added, now having a full grasp on the situation. "Loke and Trish know what they gotta do, so let's make sure they can."

Though she knew Trish was capable of handling herself, she didn't like the idea of leaving Loke behind to fight another Celestial Spirit. "Loke…"

"Don't worry beautiful, we got this in the bag." Loke gave Lucy an assuring smile. "Just focus on fighting the others and stopping the rest of Grimoire Heart."

"You can't expect me to leave you here and fight one of your own kind!" Lucy protested.

"GET OUT OF HERE! NOW!" Loke shouted, sounding uncharacteristically desperate, surprising Lucy, Trish, and even Caprico.

"I get the feeling there's more to this fight than Loke's willing to tell us." Cana guessed.

"There's definitely some bad blood between the two of them." Gray seemed to agree. "Time for us to go, so come on!" He said to Lucy. "You have faith in them, right?"

With a reluctant nod, Lucy turned around to run with Gray and Cana and leave the area. Loke breathed a small sigh of relief, something Trish noticed.

'He really wanted Lucy to leave?' Trish thought. 'I don't think it's just him protecting her, something else is going on.'

"Loke! Trish!" Lucy called to both of them one more time. "Win this! Both of you protect each other so that you can come back to me! Please promise you'll come back safe and sound! Promise me!"

Trish smiled. "Sure thing, kid."

Loke was briefly surprised but smiled as well before nodding. Lucy then turned to run away, along with Gray and Cana.

Caprico gave a minor gasp. "I know that face…" Suddenly he limboed underneath a strike from Trish as she suddenly appeared with a horizontal slice from the Sparda sword.

"Pay attention to the fight, freak!" Trish stated as she tried to blast him with lightning, but Caprico back flipped to avoid the attack, but didn't seem to notice Loke suddenly appearing from behind with glowing fists, where he landed a direct hit with a Regulus blast, sending him crashing into the wall.

"I take it you guys have a history." Trish commented to Loke.

"No time for an explanation, we just need to beat this guy!" He told her.

Suddenly, Caprico rushed out of the smoke and landed-in-between to deliver a handstand and a split-kick to them both. Trish was able to block it with the flat of her sword while Loke crossed his arms. Caprico briefly focused his attention on Trish as he quickly leapt to slug her in the face before quickly turning to deliver a knee into Loke's gut.

"Just how long has it been since you left the Celestial Spirit World?!" Loke questioned.

"Seventeen years!" Caprico answered just as Loke delivered a sweeping kick, forcing him back toward the recovering Trish as she aimed her Luce and Umbre guns and opened fire with electrified bullets; but Caprico proved swift and quick enough to dodge each blast.

"You've been in the human world for that long?" Trish questioned as she continued to shoot at him, even though he dodged nearly every shot. Though she didn't know much about Celestial Spirits, she could assume that something like seventeen years was an extraordinary feat, something Loke would soon confirm.

"There's no way you've managed to last that long on your own power!" Loke stated as he leapt into the air toward Caprico, who also leapt into the air to avoid Trish's shots. They met as Loke delivered a punch that Caprico blocked by crossing his arms. "Tell me, who are you contracted to?!"

Caprico smirked slightly. "I suppose you could say Mundus is my contractor." This caught Loke completely off-guard, leaving him open for Caprico to deliver a punch that sent Loke crashing onto the ground. He then leapt towards Trish who tried to slash at him with the Devil Sword Sparda, only for Caprico to leap, grab her by the shoulders, and flip over to behind to land a knee right in her spine to send her straight into the wall.

"How can you be contracted to Mundus?! He may be the Demon Emperor but there's no way he has any control over Celestial Wizards!" Loke exclaimed.

"No, he didn't officially contract me." Caprico explained. "But he taught Master Hades everything he knows about Lost Magic, and Hades in turn taught it to me. No human controls me, but I have plenty of servants of my own." He began to wave his finger as magic runes were written in the air.

"Come Forth! Hero of Rubengard! King of Spartans!"

This took Trish and Loke by surprise as this type of magic felt very familiar to them both.

'An otherworldly gate?' Loke thought in surprise.

'I know this kind of power…!' Trish seemed to recognize it.

Suddenly, two new figures appeared before Loke and Trish. One was a man with a long beard, green clothes akin to Ancient Chinese Warriors wielding a guandao. The other appeared to be a Spartan, with a red cape and the titular helmet, wielding a shield and spear.

"San Jiao Shin! Lionodis!"

Before either of them could react, San Jiao Shin had rushed past Loke and slashed him across the chest. At the same time, Lionodis rushed towards Trish, who tried to blast him with her lightning, but he blocked the attack with his shield before piercing her side with his spear.

Loke fell to both his knees, and Trish to one knee as she glanced back to see the two warriors vanish as quickly as they appeared. "What the hell was that…? More spirits?"

"No… those weren't Celestial Spirits…" Loke had never seen anything like that before.

"General San Jiao Shin led the anti-government forces to victory in the Rubengard Civil War in the year X779; while Lionodis was the king of a warrior society known as the Spartans in the year X86." Caprico explained to them. "Both of them died on the battlefield, however, thanks to the demonic energies of this special kind of magic, I was able to harvest their souls and make them into my own personal slaves. They live and die by my will."

"You sick bastard!" Trish exclaimed in anger.

"You've gone too far!" Loke was beyond horrified. "Desecrating the dead… keeping their souls as slaves is barbaric!"

"And being a slave to your owner is somehow noble?" Caprico questioned to Loke. "At least Trish here had the courage to rebel against her master; perhaps you should consider doing the same."

"You just love pissing us off, do you?" Trish snarled as she stood back up.

"Lucy is nothing like Mundus!" Loke stated as he tried to pull himself up as well. "He's pure evil! And her heart is more pure than anyone else I've met in my life!"

An intrigued smile formed on Caprico's face. "I wonder, who exactly is holding your leash, Leo? Might it be that blonde girl you told to flee? She seems quite fond of you."

"The only blonde you should concern yourself with is me!" Trish stated as she shot a bolt of lightning from her hand at him, but he ducked underneath the strike and quickly appeared under Trish to deliver an elbow to her chin, forcing her to slide back.

"You really never wanted to challenge me to a duel, did you Leo?" He turned back to his fellow Celestial Spirit. "This was just a way of getting her to safety while fooling me, a clever tactic." He then flipped backwards to avoid the Devil Sword Sparda that was tossed in his direction and spun like a bladed-frisbee before landing back closer to the wall as the blade returned to Trish.

"Being a puppet is such a thankless role to play, such a boring existence." Caprico continued. "Just ask the demon standing by your side." He referred to Trish, who only glared even further.

However, Caprico remembered the last words Lucy spoke to Loke and Trish before leaving.

"Please promise you'll come back safe and sound! Promise me!"

That caused Caprico to gasp as he heard those exact same words before.

"Dear Capricorn… please promise you'll come back safe and sound. Promise me."

'That girl… she couldn't possibly be…'

Loke's face filled with horror as he recognized the expression on Caprico's face. 'No! He figured it out!'

"I know exactly what you're trying to do, Leo!" Caprico exclaimed, having lost his calm and confident persona he expressed before, much to Trish's confusion. "Why you're protecting that one! I should have seen it before!" He gritted his teeth. "The resemblance is uncanny! She's the daughter of Layla Heartfila!"

'Lucy's mother…? What's that got to do with this…?' Trish thought as she had a serious expression. 'Whatever the case, something's telling me this is about to get ugly.'

A look of enraged panic formed on Caprico's face. "WHERE DID YOU SEND HER!? SHE CAN'T BE ALLOWED TO LIVE!"

Done.

This chapter turned out longer than I thought it would be, but I'm actually quite satisfied with it. We get a good look at the power of more of the Eight Kin of Purgatory, and they certainly aren't any pushovers; that's for sure.

Azuma is the strongest of the Eight Kin, though it wasn't confirmed in the cannon, I firmly believe that is the case as he took Erza to her limit, and his power seems quite OP. While here, he was able to take on both Modeus and even Mira, and even defeat them. Though of course, he did not leave the battle unscathed, having lost an arm in the process; showing that the Kin aren't invincible, despite their power. But of course, he gained an awesome prosthetic arm made out of hardened vines and obsidian stone. Just an original spell idea I came up with, pretty cool, huh? :)

As for everyone else; Elfman and Evergreen lost their fight against Rustyrose, just like in the cannon.

However; Dante and Lady were able to meet up with Natsu, Wendy, Lisanna, Happy, Carla, Lily, and Makarov. Thanks to Wendy's magic; Natsu's scarf is back to normal, and Dante's wounds have been healed (more specifically, she cleansed the Devil Slayer magic that was eating away at his insides, allowing the wounds to heal on their own Logan-style). And it seems that Natsu has caught a familiar scent, which unknown to him, belongs to Ultear as he and everyone else connected the dots to learn that Grimoire Heart has been pulling the strings on many of the bad things going around, long before even Dante and his friends joined the guild. Now Natsu, Dante, Lady, and Lisanna are on their way to confront Ultear, who has successfully captured Zeref.

And now, Trish and Loke are about to duke it out with Caprico, who seems to be eager, even desperate, to kill Lucy. Things are gonna get crazy in the next episode as the war between Fairy Tail and Grimoire Heart escalates, especially with the threat of an Etherion Blast from the Magic Council looming over them.

What will happen next? Find out next time on Fairy May Cry!
