"Apparently all our friends have a bet going that we end up together."

Jay dropped Hailey off at their secret spot, a bus stop about two blocks from the precinct, as per their new routine. It had been about a month since they started dating and neither of them were ready to let everyone else in on the new situation. Part of it was wanting to figure out themselves just how they were going to manage being partners both in and out of work. The other part was that they wanted to enjoy their own little secret bubble for just a while longer. Both were starting to think that Voight was on to them, but if he did know something, he didn't say it. Jay pulled into the lot, immediately getting out, and headed in. He said his 'hello' to Platt, ever present on her perch at the front desk, and jogged up the stairs into Intelligence. Jay settled into his desk, setting his cup of coffee he and Hailey had grabbed this morning down and shrugging off his coat. Almost everyone else was there, minus Adam and Kevin who had already been called out to a possible case for patrol. Just as Jay sat on his chair he heard Hailey coming up the steps. She blew into the bullpen, looking slightly out of breath after her trek from the bus stop, and sent him a quick smile. His eyes trailed after her as she made her way to her own desk, setting her matching cup of coffee down, and then taking her green bomber jacket off. As Jay's eyes shifted from Hailey's movements, he scanned the room and was mildly surprised when he found Kim giving him a knowing stare. She squinted her eyes slightly, as if she was examining him, and then gave a curt nod to herself before turning her attention back to her computer. Jay studied her for a moment and then risked a glance back to Hailey, who appeared none the wiser to Kim's look. The crew set about their morning, waiting to see if Adam and Kevin would call them to the scene or if they would return with nothing new to work on.

After about an hour of typing away at her computer, Hailey decided to stretch her legs a bit. She stood, grabbing her now empty cup of coffee and headed towards the break room. She stopped at Jay's desk on her way, standing a little to closely for someone who was attempting to appear as just a work partner. Hailey gave him a warm smile as she picked up his empty cup. Jay shifted in his chair slightly, feigning a stretch as his hand gently brushed up her thigh, bringing another smile and a light blush to Hailey's cheeks. They were both oblivious to the fact that Kim and Vanessa were huddled in the corner, staring at their interaction. Hailey left Jay's desk and walked into the break room, tossing both cups in the trash before moving to raid the fridge. Hailey was bent over, one hand on her thigh as the other grasped the door, looking for something to snack on when Vanessa entered the room. Hailey grabbed an orange resting in the way back and stood up, seemingly satisfied with her choice of snack. She jumped slightly when she noticed Vanessa had entered the room, her smile turning to a look of confusion when she saw the smug look on Vanessa's face.

"You ride in with Jay this morning?" Vanessa asked, trying to sound innocent but looking anything but.

"Uh, no." Hailey shook her head, eyes darting down to pick at her orange. "I didn't see him until I got into work." Hailey shrugged, trying to blow it off.

"Oh, I just noticed you guys had the same coffee. Thought maybe he picked you up." Vanessa's eyes bored into Hailey who was pretending to struggle with the peel on her fruit.

"Nope." Hailey replied, popping the 'p' and then pursing her lips. "I guess we just stopped at the same place." She shrugged, wishing Vanessa would let it go.

"Kinda out of his way.." Vanessa challenged, nodding at the two cups in the trash. Vanessa had gone out with some friends last night and ended up staying elsewhere. Jay and Hailey had taken full advantage of their new found alone time at her place and their few beers turned into a sleepless night, followed by an early morning. Hailey fought back the blush threatening to cover her cheeks as she replayed this mornings shower with Jay.

"Jay must really enjoy their coffee to start his morning." Hailey swallowed hard and forced herself to meet Vanessa's stare.

"Oh I'm sure there's something in that neighborhood he enjoys first thing in the morning." Vanessa's retort was accentuated with a wink that caused Hailey to fumble and almost drop her orange. She used the moment to spin and face the sink, taking a deep breath as she rinsed her fingers from the sticky orange juice. Hailey debated trying to come up with an excuse but decided it was best to just let it go. She stood at the sink as Vanessa came to grab a bottle of water from the fridge and then waited until she heard the other woman go to leave the room before she turned around. Hailey watched as the dark haired girl walked straight over to Kim's desk, both women glancing up at her before their eye's darted back down. Hailey looked over to Jay who was typing away at his computer, looking puzzled over whatever he was working on, but totally clueless as to what had just happened.

Adam called Jay and let them know their possible case had turned legit. The team gathered their stuff and headed out into the lot, Hailey jumping into Jay's truck while Vanessa rode with Kim. The drive to the scene was short. Hailey debated bringing up her awkward encounter with Vanessa to Jay, but decided against it. They rode in a comfortable silence until they arrived on scene, pulling up in front of a diner with it's window smashed out and patrol cars blocking off most of the street. Hailey jumped out as Adam jogged over, immediately filling her in on the case. It appeared to be an open and shut case, something Hailey was thankful for as she wasn't in the mood to deal with another messy case right now. She looked around and noted Jay standing with Kevin and Voight, who had also just arrived on scene. Hailey set about talking to witnesses and attempting to locate the diner's owner. After a while, she sat at one of the tables in the diner, pen in one hand and her phone in the other as she jotted down contact info for the owner. She dialed the number and glanced up as she saw Kevin coming to sit with her. He pulled out the chair beside her and set his own notepad on the table. Her call went unanswered and she hung up with a huff, setting her phone on the table between them. Kevin nodded out the broken window, drawing her attention to Jay who was currently being yelled at by a short, very angry and very Italian sight caused her to chuckle, as she watched her normally very composed partner with his hands up and backing slowly away from the older woman less than half his size.

"Man, she's letting Halstead have it." Kevin laughed beside her. Jay glanced at the two of them then, causing them both to spin and return their focus to the task at hand. "You get anything from the owner yet?"

"No, none of his numbers are working and apparently he's never here." Hailey rolled her eyes and set her pen down, moving her hands to rub her temples. Her phone dinged then and she glanced down to see the message from Jay.

I hate you both. Almost as much as I hate questioning little old ladies.

Hailey smiled, picking up her phone to type out a quick reply.

That's not very nice. And I'm pretty sure you don't hate me... :)

Hailey set her phone back down between them, sighing again as she looked over her notes. Kevin was shuffling through his paper, looking just as defeated, when her phone dinged with another message.

True. Hard to hate you, especially after that shower this morning. ;)

Hailey snatched the phone up faster than she thought possible, but her sudden movement had Kevin raising his eyebrows at her. Or maybe that was because she was almost certain he had been able to read at least part of the message from Jay. She swallowed hard and tried to focus on keeping her breaths even, feeling her cheeks burning with embarrassment. Kevin, to his credit, played it off and just gave her a small smile. They fell into a silence as they both continued to review the case. She saw from the corner of her eye as Kevin pulled out his own phone, typing a quick message before setting his phone down. She'd be lying if she said that his barely noticeable smirk didn't have her suspicions rising. His phone buzzed again and this time he definitely had a smirk. She sighed and tried to blow it off. Hailey looked around and saw Kim standing next to Vanessa, both glancing at Kim's phone and both wearing the same grin. She continued to look around the scene and watched as Adam was approaching their table. He was looking down at his phone and no sooner did he slide his phone into the back pocket of his jeans did Kevin's phone buzz with another message. Adam arrived at their table before Kevin could check his messages, drawing his attention away just long enough for Hailey to glance down at the text from a group chat lighting up his screen.

There's no way it'll be another two months! 20 bucks says they'll be together before the end of this month. -Adam

Hailey's head snapped back quickly after reading the message, struggling to comprehend what she had just read. Sure, it could be totally unrelated to her and Jay, but she found it suspicious how it seemed they were all having a conversation on their phones at the same time. She shook her head, feeling oddly like she was back in high school. She wasn't even sure the rest of her unit were the ones in the group chat. Kevin's phone buzzed again and she glanced at him before quickly looking down at his phone.

Nah, he's already buying her coffee from her neighborhood. 30 says they'll be together by the end of this week - V

Hailey grabbed her notepad and phone from the table, giving Kevin and Adam a sheepish grin as pretending she had another call to make. She made her way back outside and headed towards the truck. So not only were her friends gossiping about her and Jay, but they were betting on them? The thought actually amused her and she couldn't help buy smile at the irony. Jay walked up to her then, sending her a quizzical look over her smile but she shook him off and they got back to work.

Hours had passed since they had wrapped up the case and now Hailey and Jay sat on his couch, enjoying a pizza from their favorite place and washing it down with some beer. They had been teasing and bantering back and forth all evening and honestly Hailey had forgotten about the messages she had read on Kevin's phone. Jay set his second empty beer bottle on the coffee table and then leaned back into the couch, stretching his arms up before resting one across her shoulders. Hailey sighed happily and leaned back to rest her head against his arm.

"How much longer do you think we'll get away with this?" Jay asked, nuzzling his nose into the strands of hair draping over her ear. Hailey giggled slightly as his warm breath tickled her skin.

"Funny you mention that..." Hailey shifted to look up at him, smirking at his confused look.

"Why's that?" Jay asked, gently tugging her to get her to move onto him. Hailey moved to kneel on the couch, before swinging a leg over his waist and coming to straddle his lap, her arms draping loosely on his shoulders.

"Well..." She scrunched her face up, drawing out the word. "Apparently all our friends have a bet going that we end up together." She placed a quick kiss on his lips before moving back to see his response.

"Oh yeah?" Jay laughed underneath her. "I wonder who would win if we told them we already are.." He reached up to plant another soft kiss against her lips.

"Kevin said two months..." Hailey smiled against his mouth still working slowly against hers.

"And how do you know that?" Jay asked, pulling back and raising an eyebrow in question.

"I may have glanced at his phone..." She sheepishly admitted, giving a shrug.

"Hailey Upton, that's rude!" Jay teased, sliding his hands up her sides and tickling her. She squealed and quickly swatted his hands away.

"Shut up!" She gasped between laughs. "And so is betting that your friends end up together!"

"I suppose..." Jay smiled up at her, giving her another kiss. "But he's crazy if he thinks I could wait another two months for this." Before Hailey could ask him what he meant, Jay shifted them both and she was now laid back on the couch with Jay on top of her. She laughed underneath him as he began to trail kisses up and down her neck, causing her to arch into him when he found just the right spot.

"Adam said the end of this month.." Hailey breathed out as Jay sucked and nipped at the sweet spot below her ear.

"Mhmm, still not soon enough." Jay whispered into her ear, causing her to shiver.

"Vanessa said the end of the week." Hailey wrapped her arms around his shoulders again, pulling him closer. Jay chuckled above her, pulling back to meet her eyes.

"Did you glance at his phone or full on search it?" Jay laughed again, wincing when Hailey playfully smacked his side.

"Shut up." Hailey said again before pulling him down into another kiss. Jay deepened the kiss, his tongue playfully sliding into her mouth and earning a moan from her mouth.

"I don't know if I could wait that long." Jay spoke against her mouth. "I don't even think I can make it off this couch." He drew her bottom lip between his teeth, giving it a gentle nip and sending her to wreathing underneath him. Their kiss deepened again and soon enough all thoughts of their unit were pushed from their minds.
