TOBI'S FI INTO PERCY JACKSON
A TALE OF HEROES AND POWER
.
On a cloudy day, a lone traveller made his way through the violent winds. A black hooded figure soon arrived at his destination, the ruins of a temple dedicated to the greatest heroes in ancient Greek history.
Within it a giant marble statue of Hercules awaited him. Despite the centuries of age the marcle statue was well preserved and had a powerful aura around it. Having traveled a long way to Greece to witness such a marvelous sight, the traveller felt it was worth it journey. However, there were two facts that seemed off to him.
Other than him there was no one else around the temple and yet the brasiers were well lit and the temple appeared well maintained. The light from the brasiers contrasted the dark stormy sky litting up the temple. Just by standing near the entrance he felt unnaturally warm, forcing the traveller to unzip his black long coat. Grabbing his red shirt underneath he fanned his pale body a bit as he marvelled at the ancient Greek inscriptions at the temples entrance.
Strangely once inside the large stone doors, the violent winds were non present. Patting his blue jeans and coat away of some dirt and dust he reached into his sturdy travel bag on his back as he made his way into the temple.
Pulling out his notebook, he tried to match the inscriptions around the temple to his hand written notes.
"This.. is new."
For an entire month he had travelled around Greece and encountered various ruins and temples. But this temple felt different, like there was a powerful presence emanating from it and the inscriptions on the temple seem brand new despite the language being ancient Greece. Maybe it was built by wealthy people or was just well maintained by the locals and they planned to make it a new tourist attraction. It must have been brand new since the temple was not on any travel brochure or article online.
It was by sheer chance he happened upon it during his trek around the mountain.
Looking around the temple's interior he marvelled at the craftsmanship.
"Strange, this place feels...powerful?"
"Well I'm not complaining." Speaking aloud, he stepped forward to inspect the statue in the centre.
The Statue visibly glows and the eyes of Hercules shinned white. Lines of white circles and various ancient symbols and letters appear around the statues. The traveler found himself incapable of moving, a powerful presence causing his entire body to freeze as the statue's head turned to look at him. It's eyes gazing into his own, he felt as if it was peering into his soul.
"You are worthy enough to be my champion. Go!"
Then in a flash of blue everything fades.
The traveller wakes up in a meadow. Seeing his notebook near him, he picked it up from the grass. As he dusted it off and put it back in his bag, a single question rang through his head.
"What... what just happened"
Pulling himself up, he tried to orientate myself. Looking around the empty green meadow he wondered where he could be. Near him he could see a dark forest, the moonlight illuminated the forest.
The thought of getting to civilization so he could find out where he was was important. The traveller stayed where he was, there was a more life changing fact he had to comprehend first.
"That... statue just talked."
Questions and speculations ran through his head, many possibilities that came to mind then he thought back on what the statue said and whose statue it was. A large smile blossomed on his face and he let out a hearty bellow.
"After Reading so many comics and manga there could only be one conclusion."
Excitement swelled within his heart. This was one of the reasons why he spent all his savings to travel the world after university. After graduation he wanted to go on an adventure for once in his life before he resigned himself to a normal life. He wanted to live out his childhood dream of adventurer even if it was as mundane as a trip around the world.
It was funny as a child he idolised hercules, though it was hilarious. He had grown up on the disney version and was shocked and amazed by the actual story of his hero after reading about the version of him written in the Fate Stay Night series. The true tale of Hercules was tragic and inspirational. Despite the tragedies of his life forced onto him just because he was born by a jealous goddess. The hero despite all his faults and mistakes pushed on to earn his redemption after numerous trails and adventures.
He had always found it unfair and was angered at the unjustness of the hero's death. But the fact that the statue talked to him meant that the tales were true, the hero had ascended to godhood and now made him his champion.
Maybe the ancient hero found his desire for adventure appealing to...make him into his champion.
Sitting down, the traveller closed his eyes and wondered what the hero wanted him to do as his champion. Shaking his head to rid himself of the mind boggling fact of what has become of his life. He sat down and tried to see if he could feel anything different about his body.
Surely he gained something from all those glowing circles, maybe a skill or ability?
Then interrupting his thoughts, noises of someone splashing as they ran on a river could be heard from his left. Focusing he could hear the sound of a female voice panting.
Whoever was running, seemed to be coming towards him...
The sound of panting got his attention and he ran, but as he started to move an important discovery was made. His body had shrunk, no it was safer to say that he had been de-aged.
'Now's not the time to think about that.'
Rushing forth a large river surrounded by rocks soon came into view, on his way he grabbed some to use as projectiles.
Past the bushes and trees he came upon a strange scene strange out of a fantasy novel.
A wounded woman in a ripped light yellow dress was limping away frantically, she bled green blood. It ran down her light green skin and pointed elf-like ears. Even though she was limping, she was incredibly fast. Far faster than he had ever ran in his life.
Behind her was a large humanoid...monster. That was the best term to describe the beast. .
It was over ten meters in height and with a single glowing eyes trained solely on her. Wearing some mismatched armour, it had rotten teeth, a scraggly helmet, and a massive silver sword which glowed brightly under the moonlight.
Its voice was deep and rumbled, in a whining voice. "Come back and be my dinner."
It's prey responded with rude gestures without even looking back.
Seeing everything in front of him, a burning feeling erupted in his chest. Something, no his entire being was roaring for him to take action.
"HEY MEAT BAG!" Shouting loudly he tried to get the monster to turn and face him.
A monster was going to eat someone, what was an aspiring hero to do but fight.
Gripping the stone in his left hand hard he roared. "COME FIGHT ME"
The Monster however had hit its head earlier on a number of branches the girl had led him into so it never heard the traveller's cries.
The annoyance at being ignored and not realising the extents of his new strength, the stone within his grip shattered immediately. Dust and fragments slipped through his hand.
The girl's eyes widened upon noticing him distracting her long enough for her to slip and face plant onto the rocky riverbed. After the hard hit she laid there unmoving. .

"God dammit." It was his fault the girl was injured and with the rock crushed in his hands. He had to move fast.
Rushing forth, to get a running start he leaped and grabbed the monster from behind. "Listen to people dammit" Before the monster could gasp at his appearance. The traveller pulled its head back with his new strength and hurled the monster away from the girl.
As it was thrown away, the traveler finally got a good look at the monster. It's appearance fits the description of a monster straight out of Greek mythology, that of a cyclops.
The monster lived up to its race's reputation of being brawny giants. It was incredibly heavy and with little leverage all the traveller managed to do was knock him back several meters. The act of throwing it at all was a much more impressive feat than he could ever realize.
"Ow! Why did you go and do that!?" The cyclops shouted, stumbling to regain his balance.
"I don't really need much of a reason." Pulling his left hand back the traveller pointed his thumb back at the girl. "You were going to eat her right."
"She's Food!" The monster shouted, in it's mind his argument was very logical and all the justification it needed. Clearly the mean stranger was in the wrong.
Lifting the massive silver sword, the cyclops prepared to swing the weapon, the sword appeared to add another five meters to its height as it pointed at the moon above.
In a split moment the monster moved, faster than the traveller expected. In reaction he punched the monster's large elbow forcing it to bend.
Then continuing the assault he twisted the arm and kicked the cyclops knees as hard as he could.
Twisting over in disbelief and pain, the cyclops dropped the massive sword. Landing near the aspiring hero's left the blade was deeply entrenched in the ground while it's handle pointed towards the starry sky above.
The Cyclops started to tear up and howled from the pain, before his limbs snapped back into place. How was this happening, the puny human was much smaller than it. It shouldn't be able to hurt it at all, with it's massive strength it should have splattered the annoyance like a fruit on the ground.
Roaring in anger, it went to grab the handle of its weapon. But it was too late as the traveller had wrenched it free and swung at the charging monster.
As much as a part of him was telling to slay the monster, another part of him was telling him not to. Maybe it was his innocence and desire to not kill one of the first mythical creatures he encountered. In the end he told himself that it was spared because he needed more information.
Twisting the blade mid swing he used the flat side of the blade to smack it's large head.
The cyclop's head shook violently from the concussive attacks, it's attack stopped before it could begin, it fell on its back. Stunned in place it shook its head and the concussion soon cleared up. the monster's regenerative abilities working to bring it back to coherency.
Then it ran back into the forest and grabbed the closest tree trunk getting ready to rip it from the ground.
"My name is Tobi, an aspiring hero."
Tobi was not the traveller's birth name but a name he used during his university years. People had a hard time pronouncing his name so he just used it as a joke but it stuck during his time there. So it was not a complete lie. Names held power in myth so it was not a good idea to give his real name out to a mythical creature.
Stabbing the sword in the river bed Tobi stood and assessed his foe. Maybe it was the adrenaline running through his body but the monster's movements were slow enough for him to predict it's movements. This is what he wanted, an epic journey that can be spun into a tale. For granting him his wish, he needed to know the name of the monster he was battling.
"What is your name Cyclops?" Grinning, he waited to hear it's name but again it ignored him and just started pulling out a tree.
Before it could pull the tree free, he grabbed a rock and this time without crushing it he hurled it aiming for it's elbow.
Tobi had underestimated his own strength once more, the rock crumbled to pieces by the end of his throw. However, the pieces were still fast and strong enough and pierced the cyclops hide in a hail of shards and debris. It wasn't enough to do lasting damage as they were pushed out in seconds. In anger the monster turned towards him and charged, its footsteps causing small tremors, with its immense weight.
"Aaaarrghh, The Great Bone Cruncher! I'm going to crunch your skull good!"
The Cyclops howled ready to smash Tobi into a red smear.
"Well then Aaaarrghh, I'm going to beat you into submission with these fists of justice."
The danger of the situation, the pounding of his heart and the pain in his fists. He never felt so alive in his life.
'Is this what people meant by being high on life?'
Leaving the sword, he just lunged at the monster. Since the start of the battle he has been afraid of his own strength. Now he was certain of how much damage he could do and that monster could withstand his blows. He didn't need to worry about killing it.
Before he crashed into the monster Tobi jumped at the last moment landing a flying uppercut into its jaw, a loud crack signifying damage caused.
The Cyclops had spared quite frequently with its siblings, their strength had always been greater than its own. After repeatedly getting pounded into the ground Bone Crusher had trained himself to never again be thrown away by such a blow. This annoying morsel was testing him something fierce and so he utilized what he called his greatest move.
The cyclops dodged.
Terribly.
Bone Crusher like most cyclops were never well known for their agility. So it never mastered the art of dodging, his siblings could certainly attest to that.
Tobi's punch hit the large monster's shoulder, the impact far greater than he intended because the muscles of the monster's arm rippled from the blow. Despite his shock Tobi continued and pushed followed through with the blow, his fist piercing through the monster's shoulder. A shower of blood sprouted out of the monster's arm socket. It's giant limb fell with a thud, before disintegrating into golden sand.
Bone Crusher pushed through the pain due to his lost limb, and focusing on attacking faster. Swinging his remaining fist with the force of over twenty men.
Seeing the fist coming in Tobi's body reacted before he could think.
Twisting mid air, the fist rushed past Tobi's ribs body nearly taking a chunk out along with his organs. The golden sand spilling from the monster's stump spilled over the traveller's black hair and the force generated from it's attack made the sand spread all over the mortals's body.
Reacting in time Tobi grabbed onto the cyclop's remaining arm with both hands, holding on as his body was pulled along with it. Slamming his feet into the ground in hopes of getting a proper foothold, he gritted his teeth trying to throw it but was instead dragged along by Bone Crusher.
"Arghhhhh!"
Screaming out Tobi felt strength rush out from his body giving him a boost to turn the tides. Digging his feet into the rocky ground he spun along with the cyclops swing and through it into the trees. It's large mass ploughed through the weaker trees and dug a small trench with its body when it landed.
"Face me like a monster! Come at me with your fists!" Tobi yelled in excitement, the desire to battle was consuming him.
"I already am! Sit still and just get smushed already!" The Cyclops roared, picking itself up from the foliage.
Bone Crusher grabbed the nearest listing tree and ripped it from the ground before throwing it at the human's face.
"No, not with the tree you idiot."
Punching the tree, Tobi just rushed and punched the monster square in the chest.
"I mean a punch like this."
The first blow was followed by the second, which Tobi buried a fist into its face.
The Cyclops roared in pain, a berserker rage came over him and it moved with speed unlike before and without focus reached out with it's single hand to grab Tobi.
Smiling at the attack Tobi waited for the monster to reach out then before the monster could make contact. Tobi rushed past it's arm and let loose a flurry of blows at it's stomach.
Each punch picked up speed and power. Soon he was pounding into the monster like a drum.
Before Tobi knew it his fist punched through the monster's armour, instead of flesh like Tobi expected. The monster soon started turning in golden sand which started showering him before it flowed into the ground below.
The sand dispersed into the soil not too long after, leaving behind the massive armour with a hole in it and helmet.
"..."
Instead of the thrill of victory, Tobi felt sad. He didn't want to kill Aaaaargh, beat into submission yes. But it's death was not what he wanted. It was over before he knew it. Nothing was left of the monster but gold sand which was starting to fade. Except it's armour and helmet, his spoils of war perhaps. Well at least there was something to remember it by.
Maybe if the first mythological creature wasn't a bloodthirsty monster hell bent on killing him and eating a girl. He would have loved to befriend it and go one adventures with it.
Pulling his fist back Tobi let out a sad chuckle, as the reality of his actions slowly settled on him. The fight was far shorter then he would have liked but still to meet a mythological creature and have a conversation with it. That was a priceless experience he would never forget.
"Though it was short, thank you Arrrghhh."
