The girls all participated in the sleepover. It was a quiet sleepover since August was sleeping, but they still had fun anyway.
They played their usual games. Truth or Dare, 20 Questions, pillow fights, hide and seek.
They had to be careful not to wake up August who was in Rainbows wing, so they whispered most of the time.
It was after they were done with the games when they were quietly talking amongst themselves on their sleeping bags.
"That was really fun, girls. We should do this again really soon!" Pinkie Pie quietly said happily.
Applejack looked at Rainbow Dash, "Hey Rainbow, how's the lil feller doing?"
Rainbow smiled and lightly lifted her wing. August was still sleeping soundly.
Everyone smiled at the sight of the little one cuddling up against Rainbow Dash.
"He is absolutely adorable sleeping." Rarity said to everyone.
Everyone smiled and agreed, "He's adorable any other time too." Fluttershy whispered.
Everyone smiled at the small child that was cuddling with Rainbow.
Applejack yawned, "Well, I'm gonna hit the hay. I'm getting pretty tired."
Everyone else yawned just seconds after she yawned.
"Well, I guess it's time that we all got to bed. We had a long day." Twilight said, "Goodnight, girls." She said and made her way up the stairs to her bed.
"Goodnight Twilight." Everyone else said in unison. Then everyone laid down in their sleeping bags.
Before Rainbow went to sleep, she lifted her wing off her side. She smiled when she saw that August was still sleeping.
"Goodnight little buddy." She whispered and put her wing back down on him to keep him warm.
Rainbow was asleep within five minutes.
3 Hours Later...
Rainbow Dash woke up to a small scream.
Her eyes jolted open and and she immediately put her head up. Her eyes looked around trying to find the source of the scream, but her friends were all asleep.
Then she noticed that she felt shaking coming from her wing.
She looked at it with a frown, and lightly lifted it. When she did, she saw the trembling and crying form of August.
"August, hey, it's okay buddy. What's wrong?" She quietly asked him. August shook his head, and buried his face into her fur.
Rainbows frown grew bigger as she looked down at him. She had a pretty good idea of what happened.
She gently slid her wing under August and brought him in front of her, "Did you have a nightmare?"
August lightly nodded and kept crying in her wing, which broke Rainbows heart.
"Shh... little guy, it's okay. I'm right here." Rainbow told him as she grabbed him from her wing with her hoof and pulled him to her chest. She hated seeing August so upset.
He looked up at her with tears flooding his eyes, "I-I'm sorry for waking you, R-Rainbow Dash. P-please, don't be mad at m-me." He buried his head into her chest.
She sadly looked down at him, and whispered, "No no no, buddy, it's okay. I'm not angry at you. I could never be angry at you," Tears started forming in her eyes too, "H-hey, little guy, do you wanna tell me about your dream?"
August looked up at Rainbow with tears flowing down his face, and he nodded, "I-I... I had a dream about m-my mommy and d-daddy."
Rainbow quickly looked down at him, "What happened in the dream?"
August looked down, buried his head in her chest and began sobbing, "What happened yesterday!"
Rainbow tightened her grip on him and asked, "W-what happens yesterday?"
August continued sobbing for a minute, before finally saying, "M-Mommy and D-Daddy w-went to sleep f-forever." He began sobbing harder.
Rainbow was confused for a few seconds, before she finally understood what that meant and her eyes went wide, "I..." She tried to say something to him but she couldn't find the words, she just stared at the sobbing child, and rubbed at him with her hoof.
Rainbow couldn't believe what she had heard. August was an orphan. She couldn't imagine being an orphan, especially being one at his size and age.
She looked down at August furrowed in her hoof, and tried her best to calm him down.
"Shh... buddy, it's okay. I'm right here, I've got you, and I'm never going to let you go again."
Rainbow kept August to her chest for a good hour and rocked him.
It was about 3:30 AM when August's small sobs and shakes finally stopped when Rainbow was rocking him, signaling that he was now asleep.
She looked down at him with a smile, and then whispered something that she never thought she would say, "I love you."
When Rainbow heard him speak for the first time, she instantly fell in love with him. Felt the need to protect him whatever it took. She couldn't explain the feeling at first, but now she can tell you what it is. Undeniable, unconditional love.
She looked down at her little bundle huddled up in her hoof. She brought him over and laid him down on her side, and brought her wing over him to keep him warm. Then she curled up and closed her eyes and joined August in a peacful bliss of sleep.
I know, short chapter. It's hard to right stories on your phone. This took me almost two hours. I'll try not to let it happen again.
I also want your opinion on something. Do you think I am doing good with this story? Because I don't feel that I am. I feel like that the idea for this story was really well thought out, it's just I don't think I'm executing it very well. Going to keep writing this story unless one of you wants to adopt it.
