Ghost-Eyes listened over the phone as Gideon Gleeful threw a tantrum in his bedroom. "No! No, no, no, no, no!" Ghost-Eyes thought of the anger that Gideon felt. Was it justified? Gideon was angry that Ghost-Eyes had failed to break the bones of a teenager. The Pines boy might have had it coming, but Ghost-Eyes wasn't sure how Gideon could be linked to that boy. Was Gideon suppressing anger, and using Pines as a release? Or was Pines the cause of the anger? It was difficult to tell with Gideon Gleeful.
Gideon was different from other rich folks. Ghost-Eyes remembered what his father used to tell him: "never trust a rich man." But Gideon was different. He gave Ghost-Eyes and the others a place to stay, food to eat, a bed to sleep in. It may not be the best life, but it was still a life. Although, as Gideon screamed over the phone, Ghost-Eyes wondered whether he was placing Gideon on too high a pedestal. Was Gideon really there to help him? Would Gideon protect Ghost-Eyes and everyone else, if there was another alternative?
"You let him get away?" Gideon yelled.
"Boss, I'm sorry. When I went to the library, he noticed me immediately. He started packing up and walked off before I could get him out of sight. Then he ran, and he was faster than I thought. Of course, I was catching up, but then another boy knocked me down."
"ANOTHER ONE? DIPPER PINES HAS A FRIEND?"
Dipper. That's the name of the boy.
"Y-yes?"
"Keep talking."
"O-of course! The other boy ran off with Dipper Pines. They didn't leave the school grounds, so I assumed they would be trying to find someone. I saw some cheerleaders in the field so I figured they would go that way. I started looking around there and found them in a changing room..." Ghost-Eyes faltered.
"Well?" Gideon asked, expecting him to continue.
"Well, they escaped. Someone was coming so I had to run. I can't go back to prison."
Ghost-Eyes heard Gideon groan in frustration. "I can go again, boss! This time I'll be sure to-"
"No." Ghost-Eyes stopped speaking. "You have the strength, but you're going to need back-up. If Dipper Pines has an accomplice, then you need one too."
Ghost-Eyes couldn't help but feel slightly hurt. "I am more than capable of -"
"I know you are, Ghost-Eyes," Gideon said in a much kinder voice. "That's why I can't risk you going in alone. I want Pines hurt, yes, but I want you safe as well." Ghost-Eyes smiled. Gideon truly cared.
"Of course. Who should I ask? Killbone? I hear he's been looking for a job."
"No, no, no. I think we'll need someone who doesn't come out much. I'll end the call and send you a picture and an address. Ask for this person specifically." The line dropped and Ghost-Eyes looked at his screen. Someone who doesn't come out much? Ghost-Eyes didn't know anyone of the sort. It's true that Gideon had many contacts, but who could it possibly be?
Ghost-Eyes felt his phone vibrate and looked at the message. There was a photo and an address beneath it. The person was wearing a green coat and a purple hat. The hat created a shadow that covered the face of the person, except for a large, toothy grin. The phone buzzed again. Gideon sent a message:
Knock on the door. It will lead you to a secret place in Gravity Falls. Ask for What's-His-Face.
Ghost-Eyes looked at the message, confused. What a strange name.
Hmm. A much shorter chapter, obviously. This is just to build up to the next one. We now have a new perspective as well, one that I wasn't originally planning on introducing. But I think it's quite interesting to have Ghost-Eyes' perspective. We'll see how it goes.
Keep reading on, cause the next chapter's here too!
