(Now that the whole "senpai" thing is over due to me graduating high school, I am sooo better off for it. I'm sad of course, but the senpai concept is forever even if the senpai himself is not.)
It was February 8th, 2017 and Honest's senpai radar was working in overdrive. She was standing in front of the school, talking with Rosy, Rouge, and Blaze. Shadow was standing behind her, resting against the brick wall with his eyes closed.
Suddenly Honest whipped her head to the left to catch a glimpse of green through a gap in the buildings on a narrow pathway from the high school to the lunchroom. It could've been Scourge or Manic, so Honest shrugged it off. Several moments later, Jet came from the direction he had been walking to earlier, but this time he was coming towards the front of the high school where Honest was standing. Aha, so it had been her senpai that she had seen before! She blamed this on her senpai radar, which was likely implanted into her brain by Jet's charm and beauty... or by at least as much charm and beauty a bird-brained, well, bird could have.
Honest began to smile widely without knowing it. Shadow opened his eyes and noticed it. "Honest, you're so piti-"
"Don't say that! He might hear you!" Honest tackled Shadow to the ground. Jet saw them and looked confused. He then quickened his pace and soon disappeared into a crowd forming by the front entrance.
"You have got a real problem, Honest!" Shadow exclaimed, pushing Honest off of him. Honest just sat there and teared up. "Get over him already!"
"B-But I don't wanna!" Honest protested, getting up and running.
Shadow stood up and watched as Honest sprinted to the corner, staring down the road and pouting by herself. Shadow just rolled his eyes and sighed. A few moments later, Akane as a cat came down the road and leapt into Honest's arms. Shadow was watching from where he was.
"What's wrong, Honest?" Honest, with Akane still in her arms, turned around to see none other than Jet standing there. "Why are you cry-"
"Aaahhh!" Honest dropped Akane and ran back to Shadow.
"Shadow! Shadow! Shadow! Shadow! J-J-J-Jet!" She pointed with a shaky hand towards the hawk, who was standing where she had left him, watching her with a worried expression. Shadow pushed her off of him. "What did he do?"
"He t-talked!" She pointed at him even more shakily than before. Shadow just looked on with curiosity as to what Jet was doing speaking to her.
Akane was still left behind. Pop. She was now herself again. She stood up and brushed off her school uniform.
"What did I say?" Jet asked her.
Akane frowned and kicked nothing. "Honest likes you."
Jet looked taken aback. "I would never scream and run to show anyone I liked them."
"So you're not surprised?"
"I knew."
Akane looked upset. "Honest has struggled with liking you for months now! How come you didn't end it by telling her you don't like her if you knew all this time?!"
Jet looked like he was struggling with something himself. "But I don't hate her," he pointed out.
"Hm?" Akane squinted at him. "What is that supposed to mean?"
Suddenly the bell rang and Honest pulled Shadow into the building. Akane and Jet both looked towards the building. Akane became a cat again. "What class do you have first period?"
"Algebra II," he told her.
"Can you take me to English?" Akane asked, smiling a cat smile.
"S-Sure." He picked the orange cat up and walked towards the building.
Later that day at lunch, Honest walked up the stairs to the cafeteria building. When she had reached the top, the door was being held open by a hand. A gloved hand.
"Thanks, Silver," Honest told him as she took the door from him. He just smiled and followed Mephiles inside the cafeteria.
Honest put her yellow and white polka-dotted backpack at the table where she sat everyday, and went to get in line. She was worried to find that Jet was only a few people ahead of her. She sighed and stood behind Silver. There was a second line, but the other line had pizza that tasted like death on crust.
When she had been standing in line for a good minute, Scourge came walking up to her with a tray in his hands. "Excuse me," he said.
"Oh! Sorry!" Honest replied. She stepped backwards to let him pass.
"Or not." He then walked through the gap Honest had made.
"Hey! I did too move for you!" Honest exclaimed. Scourge turned towards her as if to challenge her. Shadow was standing behind Honest. He slowly placed a hand over his face, feeling ashamed and out-of-place, before grabbing Honest by her tail and pulling her towards the other line.
"Hey! I wanted a cheeseburger!" Honest shouted, flailing her arms, her boots making a screeching noise as they scooted along the floor.
"Yeah, well, I don't want to deal with any sort of fighting today," Shadow told her. Honest ended up drenching her pizza slice in ranch to block out the horrible taste of death mentioned earlier.
Honest and Shadow put up their trays and started for the door. On the way there, Honest glanced over at the place where Jet always sat. He was sitting there, all alone, with his head down, listening to music on his tablet that he always brought with him. Honest smiled. Then she realized he might be feeling down, and that made her frown. If only she could tell him that she cared for him...
Anyway, she and Shadow walked to the front of the school and hung out near the front door at the place underneath the railing where the two of them and Sonic had sat the other day.
Honest let her forehead rest against the metal bar, making a distressed expression with her mouth. Shadow looked over at her with a confused expression. "What's got you so down?"
"Senpaaaai..." she whined.
Shadow let out a puff of air. "Can I use your 3DS real quick?"
Honest looked up for a second. "Sure." She put her head back down as Shadow searched through her backpack for the small, purple device. He eventually pulled it out along with a plastic bag filled with games. He rifled through the bag until he found what he was looking for- Sonic Rush.
Honest continued to mash her forehead against the railing for about five minutes until she noticed people were starting to walk past her. She looked up and peered down the line of people. She saw a giant pair of goggles being carried atop a line of students. "Oh, no! Come on, Shadow! We've gotta move!" She bolted upwards and pulled on Shadow's arm.
"What? What is it?" he stood up just as fast as she did, still holding Honest's 3DS in one hand; the title screen displayed on the upper screen. Honest pointed. "J-J-JH! JH! It's JH, Shadow, we've got to move!"
"JH? Like... Jet the Ha-" Honest suddenly tugged him forward. At the same time, the bell rang and a blue flash of light sped past them and into the building. Afterwards students began to race into the building, and Shadow was knocked off his feet. "Shadow!" Honest pulled him up, well, dragged him into the building, not giving him a chance to get to his feet. Hey, she had to! He would've been trampled otherwise! When the two of them had finally made it to Spanish, Honest was horrified to find that someone was signed into her computer. And that someone was... Jet. Honest started sweating profusely. What? So Jet had used the same computer she uses everyday and stayed logged on? Honest's face went white and she fell into the floor.
When the teacher walked into the room, she found that her room was empty except for one unconscious cat and a very trodden-on looking hedgehog. She just sat down at her desk and got to work on something on her computer, pretending that she didn't see anything.
"Honest! Speak to me!" Shadow leaned down to check if he could hear her pulse. He could. "Oh, Honest! Don't go into a coma, please!"
Sonic and Amy were talking about something when they walked into the room. They immediately shut up when they saw the scene taking place in the small classroom.
The pink and blue hedgehogs crouched around Honest's limp body. Sonic leaned down. "What happened to Hone-"
"Jet's logged in on my computer!" Honest suddenly sprang up from the floor and logged out of his account. She then put her head down and cried.
Later that day, during geometry, there was a gas leak in the school and everybody had to run outside. For some reason, they were allowed to go back into the building, but they just couldn't be in the lower halls. What kind of sense did that make? A gas leak isn't only going to be lethal in one floor of a building! Luckily Honest's eighth period class, photography, was in the lower halls, and the teacher had the class take cameras outside and take pictures, keeping them safe from the toxic, methane gas.
It was now February 10th, 2017, and Honest was feeling a little under the weather. All of her joints ached and her throat was sore and the only thing that could heal her was cold water, which wasn't a readily available resource at school. So, she kept a whole bag of cough drops in her coat pocket. She had the song "Rin-chan Now!" stuck in her head, so this only made her day worse. On her way to 2nd period entrepreneurship, Honest spotted Jet and trailed him to his class. It turns out he had class in the classroom right beside the entrepreneurship classroom! Honest ducked into the classroom as fast as she could, trying not to be spotted by the green hawk.
Third period was art, and it set Honest on edge knowing that the next time she would be standing in that classroom, it would be for photography and Honest's week-long project wasn't ready. She was going to take a series of pictures of five apples, each being entirely different from the others. She couldn't check out a camera last night because everyone else was checking out cameras. Honest decided to bring a bag with her five apples to class, and maybe the teacher would allow her to take the pictures then. Maybe. Oh, was Honest tired of not being able to do her homework. :(
Fourth period was World History, and the teacher of this class sold snacks. Honest had brought a dollar of her tips from the café to school so she could purchase a snack. Maybe eating something would help her to not feel so bad? She bought a small bag of square, cheese-flavored crackers. Did it help? No.
Now it was 6th period and Honest's head was pounding. She had noticed, upon leaving the cafeteria, that Jet was sitting by himself again, but this time he was the only person left in the lunchroom. She wanted desperately to go over, sit by him, or at least say "hi", but she told herself "no" and left. She just wanted to be his friend, right? He'll come around eventually...
Now it was 7th period, geometry, and Honest was taking a test. It wasn't hard, but it was torture because she knew what would happen next period. She wouldn't have her pictures, she'd beg the teacher to let her take them then, her teacher would of course say no, and Honest would feel like... she wouldn't use language like that, but yeah, she would feel stupid. She would go home, collapse on her bed, and not come out for weeks.
Actually, surprisingly enough, Honest wasn't nagged for her pictures much at all. Well, the bell did ring before she could really get criticized at all, but you know. The whole way home, Honest was happy and out of breath as she kept going on and on to Shadow about what she would do that weekend. Except, when the weekend came and went, Honest realized she hadn't gotten much of anything done that she said she would. She did play Minecraft (or Hedgecraft/Minehog) and she found it extremely fun. She built a fishing hut, a dirt bridge, and she tunneled through a mountain pointlessly for about an hour.
Yay! Another chapter up! I have been staying away from reading stories and things on here because I have had to dedicate more time to making music and things. I do talk to people on here. I have been updating this story, too. I type these chapters as I move through the school day, so I do always have time to update stories. I can't work on music while at school after all. Please consider (leaving a review)!
(I had the busiest schedule in history for a high school student. :P It's more bearable now that I'm out of school, but I'm still doing the same stuff.)
