The bridge
Pepper lands on the bridge where a lot of people have stopped to see what is happening.
"F.R.I.D.A.Y. give me an update on May." Pepper orders.
"I estimated the level of oxygen left in the car and the amount of time it will take for the car to get filled with water." The electronic voice of the A.I. informs Pepper. "Mrs. Parker has approximately 3 minutes until the car fills with water."
"and how long until first responders?" Pepper asks.
"approximately 10 minutes." The A.I. responds.
"May doesn't have time for that," Pepper says determinedly. "F.R.I.D.A.Y. is the suit waterproof?"
"no. Mr. Stark has not yet prioritized that ability."
"okay. can you make my helmet somewhat waterproof?" Pepper asks. She is desperate to cum up with ideas for her to be able to help May.
"miss. Potts, if your helmet gets waterproof, it will contain minimal oxygen for you."
"how long will I have oxygen for?" Pepper asks, a bit irritated now.
"for approximately 4 minutes," F.R.I.D.A.Y responds.
"and how long will it take to cut through the car with my laser to free May?"
"Approximately 3 minutes." The A.I. responds. Pepper takes off her suit besides from her gloves and helmet. "miss Potts, may I advise you against this? It is risky behavior. Mr. Stark would not like you putting yourself in danger."
"well, F.R.I.D.A.Y. Drop your socks and grab your crocs, we're about to get wet on this ride," Pepper says, and before F.R.I.D.A.Y. can say any more, Pepper jumps headfirst into the water. She quickly swims down to the bottom of the river to where May's car is now. "Gosh, what is it with this suit. I am turning into Tony:" Pepper says more to herself than to F.R.I.D.A.Y.
Pepper reaches the car that has dropped down to the bottom of the river. Once Pepper gets to the car, she sees May is trapped inside the vehicle and is panicked as the car slowly fills with water.
"cover your face." Pepper orders panicked May. May does seem a bit calmer by the sight of the familiar Iron Man helmet. May does as the person orders her in the iron man suit, and Pepper starts cutting with the laser. The laser is very slow compared to what Pepper was expecting.
"why is it so slow?" Pepper asks, irritated the A.I. system while the laser beam is slowly cutting through the car door.
"because of the pressure from the water. The suit wasn't built for the pressure of the water, Miss Potts." While the laser is slowly cutting through the car door, it gets weaker and weaker while the car quickly fills with water, and the oxygen in Pepper's helmet gets less and less.
"how much force to I have in my glove?" Pepper asks desperately when the laser has almost stopped making any progress.
"what do you intend to do, Miss Potts?" F.R.I.D.A.Y. asks concerned.
"do I have enough force in my glove to punch through the window and grab her out that way?" Pepper asks, irritated.
"I am not sure. Your suit is weakened a lot due to the pressure. I will strongly advise you to resurface immediately."
"mute," Pepper says and swims to the front window of the car. She uses as much force as she can manage in her body as she punches her right fist through the fronts window. The windows cracks but doesn't break through. The car is filled with water now, and both Pepper and May are soon running out of time. Pepper gathers the last bit of strength she has in her exhausted body and punches through the front window with her glove. Her fist breaks through, and it shatters. She swims through the window and grabs May. Pepper Kicks off on the radiator hood of the car and shoots towards the surface with May almost unconscious in her arms.
They reach the surface, and Pepper realizes the isolation of her helmet for some much-needed oxygen. 2 scuba divers assist the two women onto dry land. There are immediately two paramedics to help May while Pepper walks over to her suit and puts it back on. She is about to take off and fly back to her office when a news rapport yells to her.
"Hey, are you an avenger?" he asks.
Pepper doesn't know what to say, so all she responds is: "sort of"
Than Pepper takes off into the sky, she looks back down at the amazed crowd that had gathered around the traffic accident and the rescue of May.
"I am happy to hear you have now decided to become an avenger." F.R.I.D.A.Y. says as they fly back.
"I am not an avenger." Pepper insists even though she can't help but smile by the adrenaline rush, she feels after the rescue of May Parker. Ad much as Pepper hates to admit it, and she never will reveal it to Tony. She felt a rush of adrenaline and a fantastic feeling from helping people, and the look of people's faces when she resurfaced with May was pretty unique. It wasn't like the usual paparazzi crowd that used to surround playboy Tony Stark.
When Pepper arrives back at her office, her assistant greets her. Her assistant looks amazed by Pepper even though Pepper doesn't feel her landing is as elegant as Tony's usual entrance. But she still managed to land on her feet, which is a pretty good start.
"Mrs. Stark, does this mean you are an avenger now?" Pepper's assistant asks.
Pepper laughs. "oh, Tony would love that Idea but absolutely not." Pepper then catches a glimpse of herself in the rescue suit, taking off into the sky. Pepper feels an odd feeling of pride in seeing her own takeoff. It actually looked pretty good. At the bottom of the screen, there is yellow breaking news like that announces a new member of the avengers who just saved a woman from the Hudson River. Pepper curses herself. Now Tony will never stop begging her to become an avenger with him.
A female news rapport comes on to the screen. Pepper grabs the news remote and turns on the sound.
"We just got the news that there is a new member of the avengers. People have already given this new female avenger the name 'Rescue' due to the hero just rescued a woman from the bottom of the Hudson River. We still do not know the identity of this new hero, but some people who witnessed the rescue says she has a similar mask to Tony Stark. There have also been some reporting on this new hero flying near the Stark industries."
Pepper turns off the sound of the tv and drops down in her chair.
"Everything alright, Mrs. Stark?" her assistant asks.
"I am never going to be an avenger."
"I thought you said Mr. Stark would want you to."
"he does. He has dreams about it. but Tony has many dreams, and not all of them are compatible." Pepper says, concerned as she looks over at the tv where she once again sees herself in the suit flying into the sky.
