It was February 14th, Valentine's Day, and Honest was walking into school that morning with a big smile on her face and a package under her arm.

"Shadow!" The dark hedgehog was standing by Honest's locker like he did every morning. He could go to first period and wait for Honest there, but he wanted to catch her on the way in, and the best place to do that was at her locker. When he heard Honest shout his name, he perked up instantly. Especially when he saw the package she carried.

"I got you a gift to show my love to you!" Honest exclaimed, holding the box out to him. He took it slowly, afraid of what it might contain. It was extremely heavy. He wondered how she had ran with it all the way there. "It's not like last Valentines' gift. This time it's food!"

Shadow let out a breath of relief and removed the lid. There was a thin sheet of wax paper covering whatever lie inside. He pulled that off to find- it was a box full of chocolate bars. He looked up at Honest for an explanation.

"I got them at the website where I bought the year's supply which coincidentally lasted only a week," Honest pointed out. "This time I bought only a week's supply, so- make it last."

She then put down her arms, which had been grasping the box the whole time. Then she pulled them up to her chest and clasped them together. "So! Did you like my present?"

Shadow wanted to admit that he didn't really much care for chocolate, but he forced a smile.

"I love my gift, Honest. Thank you."

"But do you love me?" Honest asked, looking hopeful.

Shadow let out a breath of annoyance. "Yeah."

Honest then hugged him, clearly happy with his response. "Great! Now speaking of great, I can go give Silver his present now!" She let go of him finally and skipped off down the hallway.

Shadow just rolled his eyes and followed. He didn't know why, but maybe it was because he hoped Silver could eat one of his chocolate bars for him.

Honest knew where Silver's locker was. Why did she take pride in remembering all their locker numbers? No one might ever know. Anyway, Silver wasn't there, so Honest decided to leave his gift in his locker for him. She opened up the door and a big glob of something fell out and hit the floor with a splat.

"Ew! What the heck is that?" Honest asked, terrified. There was an eyeball in it, and it looked up at Shadow. Suddenly the glob began to grow and Honest ran behind Shadow. Then the glob copied Shadow's look almost perfectly, the only difference being that he didn't have a mouth. "Hello, Shadow, Honest."

"Mephiles? Why are you hiding out in Silver's locker?!" Honest asked, shaking.

Mephiles looked between the two of them before pointing a finger at Honest's locker down the hall. Goo dripped off of the finger and onto the floor. "Much like Shadow, I too wait for somebody at their locker."

"But I've never waited inside Honest's locker," Shadow pointed out.

"Yeah, well, I thought it might be a pleasant surprise to find me inside one's locker," he offered.

"Pleasant? No, more like putrid," Honest said. She sighed and held her present to Silver out to the embodiment of darkness standing before them. "Mind giving this to Silver and telling him it's from me?"

Mephiles nodded and held the box. "Thanks!" Honest ran towards first period.

Shadow nonchalantly handed Mephiles two chocolate bars. "These are for you and Silver," he said. Mephiles nodded as Shadow skated after Honest. When Shadow was gone, one of the chocolate bars slowly dissolved into his hand. Akane was waiting inside the classroom when Honest and Shadow got there.

"Good morning!" she exclaimed when Honest took her seat. Shadow sat a few seats away from them, near the door.

Honest suddenly remembered something. "Oh! I remembered something..." She dug through her backpack, pulling something out and setting it on the table. "I got you a present!"

Akane's eyes lit up. "Sardines? Oh, you shouldn't have!" She grabbed the tin and ripped it open with unparalleled speeds. Even Sonic couldn't keep up with her as she ate the whole can in a mere second. Honest just smiled. "I'm glad you like it."

Shadow rested his head on his desk. I wish I had gotten a present for Honest. Shadow felt terrible knowing that Honest liked him enough to buy him a gift and yet he hadn't bought her anything.

Honest had 2nd period with only one other sophomore, Scourge, and five or six seniors. Shadow had science in a classroom just past Honest's, so he was in charge of lugging Honest's eighty pound bag of gifts to the classroom for her.

"Don't be too slow, Shadow! Jet goes to the classroom next to mine!" Honest begged, afraid that he might run into them. Luckily they both made it to the classroom without seeing him. Unluckily, the bell rang on Shadow, and he had to race down the stairs so fast he almost trampled a yellow and blue cat that was also late. "Sorry! I didn't mean to get in your way!" she shouted to him. Shadow didn't even stop. He just bolted straight to the biology classroom.

"Here's your gift, Scourge!" Honest exclaimed, handing it to the not-so-noble king.

He was a little hesitant to open it. "It better not be as scary as Rosy's."

"What did she get you?" Honest asked, curious.

"It scratched me. It was a bristling cat with chocolate stuck in its fur," Scourge said.

Honest's eyes grew. "Why would she give you that?"

"She knew I liked animals, I guess. Ya know, I used to have a cat. Then it wandered into Mephiles's yard, and I haven't seen it since."

Honest looked confused. "What did Mephiles do with your cat?"

"Heck if I know," Scourge said. "Uh, let's just open your gift." He removed the lid to find a carefully organized arrangement of cookies. "Oh, thanks." Scourge smiled and closed the box up again.

"Hey," Honest said. "Did you get something for Manic?"

"Oh, yeah, well he- He said he didn't want anything, and I-"

"He didn't want anything? Or you forgot?" Honest grinned.

"I didn't forget! Why would I-" Scourge stopped himself. "He really said he didn't want anything. He told me he wanted to give something to me."

Later that day, at lunch, Honest and Shadow were walking toward the picnic benches in the front of the school. They each sported paper bag lunches they had brought from home. They sat down and began taking out their food. Honest made peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. She had also packed herself a tuna sandwich as well. When they had finished eating, Honest sat there and absorbed sunlight while Shadow nibbled on a chocolate bar.

"Hey, Shadow. Do you see this?" He looked over at where she was pointing. Manic was standing by the door to the old gymnasium. Scourge approached him. Manic said something, moving his lips, before holding out a wrapped box. Honest gasped. Scourge then opened the box. Whatever was inside made him smile, and he gave Manic a hug.

Honest then sprung up from her seat and dashed toward them, Shadow following her. "What did he get you?"

Scourge looked up at Honest and beamed. He pulled the object out and held it up so the cat and the hedgehog could see what had made him look so overjoyed. "He gave me somebody's stolen wallet!"

"Ah... the beauty of illegal love!" Honest exclaimed, clasping her hands together in front of her.

"H-Hey," Shadow said, stepping closer to peer at the object. "Hey, that's-"

"That's my wallet!" A blur speedster ran up to the two, green lovers. He snatched it out of Scourge's hands. Sonic then reached into his own spines. "I- I didn't even know it was missing."

Manic laughed. "Sorry, bro." Sonic then proceeded to chew him out. Shadow rifled around in Honest's backpack until he found the chocolate bars she had been carrying for him.

"Here." Shadow gave Scourge a chocolate bar.

"Thank's Stripes!" Scourge grinned.

Shadow just turned back to Sonic and Manic.

Sibling rivalry.
