(The original included a drawing of Silver and Shadow enjoying some father-son fishing, but I've lost it. :()
"Rise and shine!" Honest and Shadow heard a voice speaking to them in their dreams. Honest was in a dream where she was at a giant sandwich shop that sold tuna fish sandwiches by the dozen. When she had got her first sandwich from the lady at the counter, she looked lovingly at the dead fish on her bread. "Rise and shine!" it said, opening its mouth and everything. "Ah!" Honest dropped the sandwich on the floor and woke up.
Snow was standing at the door to Shadow's room. "I said, 'rise and shine'!" Suddenly Shadow woke up and lifted his head, making Honest roll off of him.
"Hey! You were just Sonic a moment ago," Shadow told the red-haired bunny with long, purple ears (it's been a while since we've seen Snow. I just wanted to remind you... even though the book is named after her). She opened the door wider so that they could see who else was standing there. Honest began to cry.
It was Big the Cat.
Honest looked over the side of the boat into the murky water. Shadow was on the opposite side of the boat, looking into the water as well. Big was happily fishing. Snow had her own pole and was fishing with a big smile. Froggy was catching flies with his long, frog tongue.
"I caught something! I caught something!" Big exclaimed. Froggy began jumping around the boat like he was mad.
Shadow helped pull the fish into the boat. It looked to Honest to be a minnow, but Big still lifted it above his head like he had won a wrestling belt before tossing it into an ice chest filled with water beside him.
"Hey."
Honest and Shadow turn around at the same time to see Snow behind them holding two fishing poles, one in each of her hands. "You're not going to just sit there the whole time, are you?"
Shadow didn't even pause to think. "Yes."
Bam!
Snow hit Shadow upside the head with one of the poles.
Shadow pulled a chaos spear out of nowhere and aimed it at her head.
Big scrambled to try to stop Shadow. "No! Wait! No fighting on the boat!"
Shadow jumped out of the way to dodge Big. Big grabbed open air and fell. With all the weight on one side, the whole boat turned over in the water, dumping its four (five counting Froggy) passengers into the water.
Honest began hyperventilating. "Ahh! I can't swim, Shadow, come on, you've got to help me! My fur's getting all wet! What do I do?"
Nearby, Big's belt inflated to become a floaty ring, and he bobbed up and down in the water. Froggy just swam along in the water, turning donuts on the surface. Snow floated on her back, sighing.
"Good job, guys. You ruined our fishing trip," she told them.
Honest was now clutched onto Shadow's arm, kicking her feet frantically behind her. "Towards shore!" The cat and the hedgehog sped towards a finger of land jutting out into the water nearby. Snow and Big swam after them. Froggy was going the opposite direction.
Once on land, they assessed the damage. The whole box of oatmeal cookies that Honest had bought for the trip was in the boat when it had turned over, so that was gone. So was all their bait, their three fishing poles (not counting Big's which he had been clutching the whole time), and one of the crew.
"We have to go back for Froggy!" Big exclaimed, waving his arms above his head.
Shadow elbowed Honest. "See what you did?"
Honest just narrowed her eyes at him. "Really? It was you and Snow who had started fighting in a small fishing boat."
Honest then turned to Snow. "I told you nothing good could come out of fishing with Big!" She pointed at her and stuck out her tongue.
Snow turned towards the water. "Who's going back to the boat to find Froggy?"
"You." Snow turned around to see that Honest and Shadow were standing there, waiting for her to jump in the water.
"Okay, let me rephrase that." Snow put her hands on her hips. "Who, out of the people not wearing any clothes, is going to go back to the boat?"
Honest turned to Shadow. Then she turned to Big. "Hey. Big's not wearing any clothes. We should send him."
Big shook his head. "I'm wearing a belt." He then turned to Shadow.
"What?!"
Honest grinned from ear to ear. Shadow rolled his eyes and made his way over to the water. He looked over his shoulder. "I could be watching the next episode of season 2 right now." He then jumped as a ball into the water.
"Wait!" Honest ran up to the shore. Shadow turned around in the middle of a stroke. "I need my oatmeal cookies!"
"I can get them for you." His voice was drowned out by the splash Honest made when she hit the water beside him. All he saw were hands reaching towards him from the murky water. Shadow reached out and grabbed them, pulling a wet cat out of the water.
"I'm going with you!" Honest exclaimed, clutching his arm again. "After all, it took a whole series of robots to find Froggy in Sonic Adventure."
Snow and Big watched from land as the two made their way towards the wreckage. Shadow lifted the upside-down aluminum boat to peer underneath it. Nothing there.
Honest scanned the water's surface. "Surely Froggy wouldn't travel underwater. Can frogs do that?"
Shadow looked up. "I, uh, don't know. But Froggy isn't under the boat."
"Maybe we should swim all around-" Honest looked down and noticed a white box sitting on the floor of the lake. "The cookies!" She let go of Shadow and dived downwards.
"Hey, Honest," Shadow realized she might not be able to hear him, and he decided to swim after her.
"Bloblerblablabloo," Honest said. She reached down and grabbed the box. Shadow pulled her up a second later. The two of them emerged at the top of the water with the box. Honest lifted the box above her head triumphantly, once again resembling a wrestler holding up the championship belt. "Yay!"
Shadow rolled his eyes. Honest smiled. "Since they're not opened, they should be okay to eat. Let's head back to the shore!"
"But we're looking for Froggy, remember?" Shadow asked.
"We can continue, but first I need to get on dry ground and eat a cookie!" she replied, licking her lips and hugging the box to her chest lovingly.
Shadow sighed and steered towards the shore, Honest's legs kicking to propel them. Honest crawled onto the mud. And lifted her find up to Snow and Big. "I found my cookies! Now we can all I have one."
Shadow stuck around for a cookie, and Snow and Big hovered over Honest, waiting for theirs. Honest removed the lid and prepared to receive her small serving of oatmeal-y paradise.
"Froggy!" Big exclaimed, his eyes bugging out. Sure enough, when Honest had opened the box of cookies, a small frog was sitting atop the foil, jumping out onto the ground.
"Hey! I didn't know you liked cookies, Froggy!" Honest beamed. "I guess that's something we have in common."
Everyone celebrated the return of Froggy with oatmeal cookies before leaving for home. On the bus, Honest and Shadow were sitting in a seat behind Snow's and Big's.
"I knew this would happen if we went," Shadow mumbled. His fur was drying slowly. Honest was using a battery hairdryer (a Sonic Universe invention I'm sure) to dry her dress. It wasn't really working, and the battery was almost dead.
"Yeah," Honest replied. She gave up on the hairdryer idea and slumped in her seat. "When will Big get that Froggy just doesn't want to be his pet? You know, if you love something, let it go."
Honest suddenly brightened up. "Hey! That reminded me somehow! Today's the 16th. I was supposed to go celebrate my real-life brother's birthday today."
"Well, it's-" Shadow looked down at his wrist. "I'd say you might have time- wait. I don't wear a watch." He snapped his fingers. "Dam, the one that holds back water!"
"Ha, the one that holds back water! I could've sworn I was watching Sonic Boom for a moment there. I feel like that joke about not having a watch is something Knuckles would do," Honest told them, suddenly feeling a lot better about her terrible day. "Maybe he'll have some cake left over."
This was a nice break from the regular flow of things. :) Please (leave a review) if you enjoyed it as much as I did, and share this with others. I hope you enjoyed the Valentines part, too. I actually wrote this part before that one. :P
