Chapter 2 - Growing up
There are large time jumps in this chapter. You have been warned.
'One more month until he starts going to school.' Asriel thought. He was working in his office that took up the open corner on the second floor.
"Daddy…?" Frel asked from the stairs.
Asriel looked up from what he was doing. "What's wrong?" He asked.
Frel went silent for a bit. "I had an…" He started but couldn't finish.
"Did you have another accident?" Asriel asked.
Frel nodded then finished climbing the stairs and looked down.
Asriel sighed as he stood up. "Where was it this time?" He asked.
"In the kitchen." Frel replied.
"Alright. I'll go clean it while you go wait in the bathroom." Asriel said before heading downstairs to do as he said.
Frel stayed silent as he entered the bathroom but eventually began to cry.
Asriel took a plastic sack out to the garbage before he headed up. Hearing the crying, he calmed himself a little before he entered. "Calm down buddy. It's not the end of the world." He said, hugging Frel.
"Are you mad at me?" He shakily asked.
"I'm a little annoyed, but no. I'm not mad at you." Asriel replied. "What were you doing in the kitchen?" He asked.
"Snack." Frel replied.
"Who said you could have a snack?" Asriel asked.
"Um… You did." Frel replied.
"Um…" Frel said, trying to think of a good time to say.
"I think you're lying." Asriel said.
"Nooo…" Frel said and started to giggle.
"You know what happens to kids that lie?" Asriel asked. "The tickle monster comes up behind them…" He said. "And then he starts to tickle them!" He finished before he started to tickle Frel.
Frel began to laugh and tried to get away as he squirmed around on the floor. After a while, Asriel stopped and let Frel catch his breath.
"Alright, time to get you cleaned up." He said before turning on the water.
Frel sat up after he caught his breath and started to undress himself.
"Test it." Asriel said after a bit.
"It's okay." Frel replied after sticking his hand under the running water.
"Okay." Asriel said before blocking the drain. "He let the tub fill before turning off the water. "Hop on in." He said.
Frel nodded then hopped in.
Asriel waited for a minute before collecting Frel's clothes. "Are you going to be okay by yourself?" He asked.
Frel nodded. "Sorry daddy." He said.
"It's whatever." Asriel sighed then stepped out.
Frel sat still for a little while before he started to play and splash around. It took Asriel a while to prepare dinner, so Frel had lots of time to flood the bathroom. Asriel nearly slipped when entering and had to hold on to the door to keep himself from hitting the floor. He helped Frel dry off and get dressed before walking downstairs with him so they could eat. After that, Asriel let him play around a little more before sending him to sleep. Not long after that, Asriel finished what he was doing in his office and went to sleep himself.
Asriel awoke to Frel shaking him. "Hey buddy." He said then looked at the time. "What are you still doing up?" He asked.
"had a bad dream…" Frel replied.
"Oh." Asriel said. "Are you okay?" He asked.
Frel shook his head. "I'm scared." He said.
"It's okay. There's nothing to be scared about." Asriel said.
"Can I sleep with you tonight?" Frel asked.
"I guess you could do that." Asriel said. He helped Frel onto the bed and pulled the covers over him. "Do you want to talk about it?" He asked.
Frel shook his head.
"Okay. You don't have to." Asriel said.
"I'm sorry for waking you." Frel said as he cuddled up to Asriel.
"I'll be right next to you." He replied.
Frel nodded. He finally rested his head on Asriel and fell asleep, making Asriel lightly smiled then went back to sleep himself.
Frel didn't wake from another nightmare for the next few weeks, not until the night before the day he got to meet his teacher. He got up, but not wake Asriel. Instead, he went downstairs and got himself a cup of water. "I'm not ready." He quietly said to himself.
"Why not?" A voice asked.
Frel jumped and turned to the doorway. No one. He stepped back and finished his cup before sneaking back upstairs again. He then climbed back into bed. A noise came from his closet, sending a chill up his spine. He looked towards it, waiting for something else to happen. "Who there?" He eventually asked.
"Same as before. You didn't answer my question." The voice responded.
Frel pulled his covers over himself and remained as still as possible.
"What are you hiding for?" The voice asked.
Frel didn't respond.
The voice sighed. "Maybe now isn't a good time. I'll talk to you tomorrow." She said.
Frel waited in silence for a while before pulling the covers off. He carefully walked over to his closet and looked inside. "Hello?" He quietly asked. After getting no response, he closed the door and went back to his bed. He climbed on then tried to get back to sleep.
Come morning, Frel woke to the sunlight coming in from the window. He sat up, rubbing the sleep from his eyes.
"Good morning." The voice said.
Frel jumped a little and quickly looked around the room. "W-who there?" He asked.
"Still scared." The voice sighed. "My name isn't important, but if if you wish to call me something… call me Fallen." She said.
"What you want?" Frel asked.
"...I was asked to watch over you." Fallen replied.
Frel didn't get it. "Where are you?" He asked.
"I'm in front of your bed. Sorry you can't see me, your soul isn't strong enough for that." Fallen replied.
Frel looked forward. "My… soul?" He asked.
"Yes. Despite it's rather… unique form, your soul is too weak to be able to see me. Perhaps it will become strong enough when you're older." Fallen tried to explain. She didn't understand his soul enough to give him a proper explanation.
A knock came from the door before it opened slightly. "You awake buddy?" He asked.
"Yeah." Frel responded.
Asriel finished walking in and sat down by Frel. "What were you doing last night?" He asked.
"Did I wake you?" Frel asked.
"Well you are not very quiet with stairs." Asriel chuckled.
"Sorry. I had a bad dream again. I just got myself a cup of water." Frel explained.
"A bad dream? Are you nervous about meeting your teacher?" Asriel asked.
"a little…" Frel quietly said.
"Why?" Asriel asked.
Frel only shrugged in response.
"Well… are you hungry?" Asriel asked.
Frel nodded.
"What would you like for breakfast today?" Asriel asked.
"Pie!" Frel replied.
Asriel laughed a little. "You can't have pie for breakfast silly!" He said.
"Please?" Frel begged, giving puppy dog eyes.
Asriel rolled his eyes. "Don't give me that look." He said. "You can't have pie for breakfast." He repeated. "How about pancakes?" He suggested.
"Cake?" Frel asked. He thought for a moment before nodding his head.
"Alright. Pancakes it is." Asriel said. He stood up then picked up Frel. The two headed downstairs and into the dining room. Fallen followed them and naturally sat down on one of the chairs. Asriel sat Frel down before he walked into the kitchen to prepare breakfast.
"What makes you want pie so much?" Fallen asked.
"Grandma made dad some pie and it good." Frel replied.
Fallen lightly smiled. "Yeah, she made some good pie." She said.
"Do you want some cake?" Frel asked.
Fallen's attention was brought to Frel's soul as it started to glow green."No thanks." She replied.
"Are you not hungry?" Frel asked.
"No. I don't ever get hungry, so I never have to eat." Fallen explained. She watched as the glow faded and it was back to normal.
"Who are you talking to?" Asriel asked, entering the dining room with a plate. He placed down the plate in front of Frel.
"Fallen." Frel replied. He began to eat and slid the plate towards Fallen a little bit.
"Fallen? Are they a friend of yours?" Asriel asked. He sat down across from Frel with his own plate.
Frel shrugged. "She nice." He said.
"When did you meet her?" Asriel asked.
"Last night." Frel replied.
Asriel nodded. He began to eat but kept glancing up.
"You think I'm nice?" Fallen asked.
"Yeah." Frel said.
"What?" Asriel asked.
"Fallen say something." Frel replied.
Even though it sounded more like a question, Asriel nodded to show he understood.
"You probably shouldn't talk to me around others." Fallen said.
"Why?" Frel asked.
Fallen and Asriel replied at the same time, making Frel tilt his head and look between the two, though it was more like looking between Asriel and the guessed area in which Fallen was in.
"What?" Frel asked.
"I just asked because I heard you say something. Just thought you were talking to me." Asriel repeated. "Is breakfast good?" He asked.
Frel nodded. "Thanks!" He said.
"You shouldn't talk to me around others because it might confuse them. And other kids might start bullying you for talking to something they can't see or hear." Fallen finally explained.
Frel nodded. He finished eating then stood up. "Can I go play outside?" He asked.
Asriel looked out the window. "Sure. But put your dish in the sink first and stay in the yard please." He replied.
"Thanks dad!" Frel said as he picked up his plate and ran into the kitchen. After putting the dish in the sink, he ran over to the living room to put on his shoes.
"If it starts to rain, come back in." Asriel said from the dining room.
"Okay!" Frel replied. He finished putting on his shoes then stood up and ran out the door.
The air was warm and dew covered the grass. Frel jumped off the stairs and landed into a roll. His shirt was dampened by the dew, leaving wet marks. He ran to a tree and started to climb it.
"Careful." Fallen said.
"It's okay! I do this a lot!" Frel said as he reached for higher branches.
"I know, but you should still be careful." Fallen said again.
Frel rolled his eyes. "Okay." He said then continued climbing.
Fallen floated up to a branch that was a little higher than Frel. "Think you've made it far enough?" She asked. "You almost made it to the roof." She said.
"I'm still going." Frel replied.
"Okay." Fallen sighed.
Frel made it up to the thin branches before he stopped. "See? I'm okay!" He said.
"I can't help if the branch you are standing on snaps and you fall." Fallen said.
"Because I can't see you?" Frel asked.
"No, I don't think I could save you if you could see me." Fallen replied.
"Oh… So you are a ghost?" Frel asked.
"Not exactly, but we can go with that." Fallen replied.
Frel nodded. "Can you do anything cool?" He asked.
"I can only nudge objects so far. And I can float." Fallen replied.
"You can fly?" Frel asked.
Fallen sighed. "No, I can't fly. I can only float. Floating only gets me so far off the ground and moving around is like swimming." She tried to explain.
Frel nodded again, even though it was just another thing he couldn't fully understand. "You said someone sent you?" He asked.
"Yes. I- Your mom sent me." Fallen replied.
"You knew mom?" Frel asked.
"Yes, I did. I knew her better than anyone else." Fallen replied.
"Can you tell me something about her?" Frel asked.
Fallen sighed. "Later. I can tell you a story later." She said.
"Why?" Frel whined.
"It will be easier when you're asleep." Fallen said.
"Why?" Frel asked.
"You'll have to find out later." Fallen sighed.
Frel groaned at the response. "You are mean." He said with his arms crossed.
"Why does that make me mean?" Fallen asked.
"Because." Is all Frel responded with.
After a few moments of silence, it began to rain. Frel carefully climbed back down the tree, nearly slipping halfway down. Fallen followed him down then inside.
"Hey buddy." Asriel said from the couch. "Did you have fun?" He asked.
Frel nodded. "I made it to the top of the tree again!" He replied.
Asriel rolled his eyes. "One of these days, you are going to get yourself hurt from doing that." He said.
"But I am careful!" Frel stated.
"But the top branches are weaker. No matter how careful you are up there, one branch can send you falling." Asriel said.
"Didn't mom fall from a tree once?" Frel asked.
Asriel had to think for a moment before answering. "Not that I'm aware of." He said. "Why?"
"I think grandpa told me a story about it." Frel replied.
Asriel nodded. "Just be careful please." He said.
"Okay dad." Frel said as he rolled his eyes.
"We'll be eating dinner a little earlier today." Asriel stated.
"Because I get to meet teacher?" Frel asked.
"Yep." Asriel said with a nod. "Want to watch some T.V." He offered.
"Sure." Frel said before climbing onto the couch.
Asriel turned on the T.V. then wrapped an arm around Frel, who started participating in the activities of the cartoons. After a few shows, Asriel got up and made lunch.
"Are you ready to meet your teacher?" Asriel asked when the two stepped through the school doors.
Frel was holding on to Asriel's leg as they walked. He shook his head in response.
"Still nervous?" Asriel asked.
Frel nodded.
"Don't be scared." Asriel said. He knelled down so they were level. "If I thought you need to be scared, we wouldn't be here." He said.
Frel nodded again, but he was still nervous as he followed Asriel into the classroom.
Inside the room, there were posters covering the walls, a picture was drawn on the whiteboard and the ABC's hung over it. There were desks covering half the room while the other half was more of a playing area. The teacher was sitting at her own desk and almost didn't see the two come in.
"Oh, hello there!" She said after standing up.
"Howdy." Asriel greeted. "You are Ms Snow, correct?" He asked.
"That would be correct, yes." Snow replied.
"I'm Asriel and this…" He said, pushing Frel forward. "Is my son, Frel."
"Hi there!" Snow said after looking down.
Frel gave a small wave but didn't hold eye contact for long as he glanced between her and the floor.
"He a shy one?" Snow asked, looking back up to Asriel.
"Yeah. He's been nervous since yesterday." He replied.
"Ah. Well hopefully it will blow over after a day or two." Snow said. "He is free to look around. I have some things to discuss with you regarding some of the things we plan to teach during the year." She added.
Asriel nodded then knelt down to Frel. "Look around, but stay inside the room, okay?" He said.
Frel nodded then slowly walked away to look around.
"Oh! And there should be a desk with your name on itif you want to try and find it." Snow said before walking Asriel over to a group-sized table.
Frel nodded again then looked at all the desks organized around the room. Counting, more so trying to count, the desks didn't really help his state. Before finding his desk, he decided to look around at other things instead.
"Hey buddy, can you come over here?" Asriel asked after a while.
Frel nodded then joined the two at the table. Asriel then pulled him onto his lap.
"So, regarding his shyness, has he been around any kids outside of your family?" Snow asked.
Asriel shook his head.
Snow nodded again. "Well it should become less of a problem by next week. I'll call you if there are any issues." She said. After looking through some papers, she handed a a collection of information stapled together over to Asriel. "That is just everything we discussed, if you have any questions please ask me. Other than that, I've nothing else to say."
"No questions." Asriel said.
Snow nodded then looked down to Frel. "Did you find your desk?" She asked.
Frel shook his head.
"Would you like some help?" Snow asked.
Frel was silent so Asriel answered for him.
"Yes please." He replied.
Snow stood up then lead the two over to the other side of the room where Frel's desk was located. When they found it, Frel sat down and looked around the classroom.
"Thanks for having us." Asriel said.
"No problem. I'm excited to see him grow." Snow replied.
"You ready to go buddy?" Asriel asked.
Frel nodded then stood up and started walking towards him.
"Remember to push in your chair." Asriel said.
Frel did a full circle then pushed in his chair before joining Asriel by the door.
"See you next week." Asriel said.
"Yep. Have fun you two!" Snow said as she waved goodbye.
Frel waved goodbye as he followed Asriel out the door.
"There. That wasn't so bad, was it?" Asriel asked after closing the front door.
Frel shook his head.
"Well it's bath night so why don't you head up and get ready for that." Asriel said.
Frel nodded then started heading upstairs.
"How did it go?" Fallen asked.
Frel shrugged as he closed the bathroom door. "Snow seemed nice." He said.
"Why are you so scared?" Fallen asked.
"What you mean?" Frel asked.
"When you were looking at all the the desks, you got scared." Fallen replied. "Why?"
Frel shrugged. "I dunno."
"Hm. Well enjoy your last week out of school." Fallen said.
"Why?" Frel asked.
"Well you are going to be stuck with it for the next thirteen years." Fallen replied.
"Oh…" Frel said. "Is that a long time?"
Fallen nodded. "But you'll get to High School and it will feel like it wasn't " She said.
Frel nodded then looked down.
"What's wrong?" Fallen asked.
"Will daddy be able to come with me?" Frel asked.
"I mean… He'll take you (probably), but he can't stay there with you." Fallen replied.
Frel did not like that response. He used his arms to cover his eyes and fell to his bottom before starting to cry.
'Crap.' Fallen thought briefly. She knelt down to him, hesitating to pat his head.
"I-I don't want to be left a-alone!" Frel cried.
"What are you talking about?" Asriel asked.
"Sorry Az." Fallen said.
"F-Fallen said you won't stay with me at school a-and it's going to take a-a long time!" Frel cried.
Asriel grew a look of concern but wiped it away. "I'm not going to leave you for more than 8 hours." He said.
"Promise?" Frel asked.
"Yes. I promise." Asriel replied.
Frel nodded. He hugged Asriel after standing up.
"Ready for you bath?" He asked as he returned the hug.
Frel nodded. Asriel smiled then stood up and filled the tub then bathed Frel, letting him play while he went to clean the dishes afterwards.
Frel screamed and started to cry, which made Asriel rush into the room. "Hey, hey! What's wrong?" He asked.
His response was covered by his crying so it was inaudible.
"Did you have another nightmare?" Asriel asked.
Frel nodded and started rubbing his eyes.
Asriel sighed as he rubbed Frel's back. "Would you like to sleep with me tonight?"
Frel nodded so Asriel picked him up and carried him to the other bedroom. When they laid down, Frel cuddled as close to Asriel as possible.
"You'll be okay." Asriel said before they fell asleep.
In the morning, Asriel shook Frel awake so he could go get ready. When he finished getting dressed, he joined Asriel at the table. It was still summer weather so Frel was wearing his favorite T-shirt.
"Are you ready?" Asriel asked.
Frel shrugged. 'I'm really nervous still…' He thought.
"Why are you nervous still?" Fallen asked.
'...There are going to be so many kids there!' Frel replied.
"Well, yes. School's are usually full of them." Fallen joked.
"Look at me buddy." Asriel said.
Frel looked up from his breakfast and tilted his head.
"You're going to be okay, alright?" Asriel said.
Frel lightly smiled and nodded his head.
"And if things go wrong, you get to complain to him when you get home." Fallen said, laughing a little.
Frel giggled a little to her comment.
"Something funny?" Asriel asked.
Frel shook his head as he continued to giggle.
Asriel rolled his eyes and went back to eating.
When Frel finished eating, he went over to the living room and put on his shoes and made sure he had everything in his book bag. Asriel then got his shoes on and lead Frel to the school again. And as they walked to the school, Frel held tightly onto Asriel's hand. When they got to Pod 1, Asriel led Frel to the line of kids outside of Ms. Snow's classroom. There were a lot of children, and a lot were crying.
Asriel knelt down to give Frel a hug. "I'll see you after school, okay?"
Frel froze. He returned the hug and lightly nodded. He sat down with the other kids and watched his dad walk away. He wanted to start crying like the other kids but something was preventing it. Instead, he looked at his classmates. One kid in particular caught his attention. The kid was hiding off to the side, distant from the class. Frel looked around again before crawling over to the kid.
"H-hi!" Frel tried to greet.
The kid looked at him for a second then scooted away.
Frel looked down then curled up.
A bell rang shortly after and Ms. Snow opened the door. "Alright class! Time to come in and find your seats!"
All the students then stood up and headed into the classroom.
Frel was second from last in. He managed to find his desk before the other kid got inside. Oddly enough, the kid sat right next to Frel. He tried to say "Hello" again but got the same response as last time.
Snow handed everyone a piece of paper to each student then went to the front of class. "Okay. In just a moment. In just a moment, I'm going to want each of you to get up and try to find someone who can fill in each box." She explained.
Frel wasn't too fond of the idea of interacting with the other kids just yet. So, when others stood up, he climbed under his desk. The other kid saw him and decided to do the same. Frel didn't try to communicate and distracted himself by reading the boxes instead.
"Hey." Ms. Snow said. A different kid told her what they were doing.
Frel jumped to the sudden appearance. "hi Ms. Snow." He quietly responded.
"Why aren't you joining the others?" She asked.
Frel looked down. "I… I don't know anyone…"
"That's the point of this activity." She replied. She moved his chair then helped him up. "What about you, Jess?"
"My name is Mike!" The other kid replied, turning a little red.
"Right. Sorry." Snow said.
Frel could hear some snickering from other students but couldn't see who it was.
"I don't want to meet anyone today." Mike grumbled.
"Oh come on, it's not that bad." Snow said. She tried to move his chair but he pulled it back. She let out a sigh and rolled her eyes. "Fine, just for today."
Frel stared at him a little before Snow pulled herself to her feet again.
"Okay Frel." She started. "What box do you want to fill out first?"
Frel pointed to one of the nine boxes on the paper.
Snow looked at where he pointed then looked around the room. "There's someone with brown hair/fur/scales by the door, the end of the whiteboard, and at my desk." She said. "Now all you need to do is go up to one of them and ask to put their name in the box."
Fallen was sitting off to the side, but curiosity pulled her over to Frel as he quietly approached the person with the least commotion, which was a human with glasses about equal height as Frel. She watched as his soul started to glow orange as he was about to say "Hello."
The new kid turned around and looked at who had got his attention. "Oh! Hello!" He said as he quickly waved. "Do you want me to fill a box?"
Frel nodded kind of shyish.
"Okay!" He said. "Which one?"
Frel pointed to the same box as before. The other kid signed his name then looked back at Frel.
"What kind of monster are you?" He asked.
"O-Oh! I'm actually half monster and half human!" Frel replied.
"Really? That's so cool!" He said. "My name is Peter!" He added as he pointed at the box. He then held out his hand. "friends?"
Frel looked surprised for a moment then he grew a large smile on his face. "My name is Frel!" He said as he shook Peter's hand.
"Neat!" Peter replied. "Oh! Can you fill out one of my boxes now?"
Frel nodded and his soul faded to green. "Which one?"
Peter pointed at one of the boxes. Frel looked at it and then just kind of stared.
"Do you not know 2+2?" Peter asked.
"Um…" Frel replied.
"Hold up your hand." Peter said.
"Which one?" Frel asked.
"Doesn't matter." Peter replied.
Frel nodded then held up one of his hands. Peter pushed down all of Frel's fingers then lifted them one by one as he counted up to five. He then closed them again.
"Okay. Now hold up two, then hold up two on your other hand." Peter said.
Frel nodded then did as said.
"Good! Now switch two to the other hand." Peter said.
Frel nodded and did as said again, after a little more thought this time.
"Now how many fingers are you holding up on that hand?" Peter asked.
Frel counted his fingers. "Four?"
Peter nodded. That made Frel smile as he wrote the answer and his name.
"Thanks!" Frel said.
Peter nodded again. "I'm going to go meet others now, you should try to meet others to fill the rest of your boxes!"
Frel nodded then the two parted and Frel's soul stopped glowing, returning to its normal white. He found it a little easier to talk to others but his soul didn't start glowing again.
"Alright, listen up!" Undyne shouted. "Your normal gym teacher couldn't make it to class so I'm going to be your sub for today!" She announced.
The students glanced at one another as Undyne explained the activity and didn't hesitate when she said "GO!"
Frel and Peter made sure they were on the same team, though it was more Frel making sure. The goal was to hit the kids on the other team with soft foam balls and the duo quickly discovered that neither of them could throw very accurately.
During the final game, Frel made eye contact with Mike, who threw a ball right towards him. Frel froze and watched the ball come towards him. Peter pushed Frel out of the way then took the ball to the head, the force taking him off his feet.
"There. You. Go!" The nurse said after placing a band-aid on Peter's head.
"Thanks." He responded. "Sorry for pushing you down Frel."
"It's okay. I only got a small scrape." Frel replied.
"Do you need a band-aid too?" The nurse asked.
Frel shook his head. "Sorry you got hit." He said to Peter.
Peter just shrugged. "I just should have ducked after pushing you." He joked.
"You two should get back to your class." The nurse said.
The duo nodded then waved goodbye. It took them a bit to locate the music room so that part of the day was pretty much over and it wasn't long before the class returned to the classroom.
They did another, bigger activity then went to lunch. Peter went to chat with other friends so Frel was alone again and stuck by silence while he ate. After that, the entire grade went on out to recess.
"Having fun?" Fallen asked when Frel sat down by a tree on the farthest side of the playground.
He shrugged. "Why are you watching my soul?"
"How do you know I was doing that?" She asked.
"I… My soul can feel it." Frel replied.
"Ah." Fallen sighed. "I just haven't come across a soul like yours." She replied.
"Dad says the same thing." Frel said.
Fallen was about to say something, but was cut off by a scream. The two looked in the direction it came from only to see none other than Mike. This time, however, he was getting kicked around. Frel got to his feel and started heading over to the commotion.
Mike went down and got dirt kicked into his face before the group of attackers ran off. Frel stared at Mike for a moment. He looked at the group running away then back to Mike.
"...What are you thinking?" Fallen asked.
"Why were they hitting him?" Frel asked.
Fallen sighed and shook her head. "It just happens sometimes."
Frel was silent for a moment. He turned and started heading in the direction the attackers ran.
"Frel?" Fallen asked. She didn't get a response so she checked his soul again. It had started to glow yellow. "Frel… What are you doing?" She tried to ask. After getting no repsonse again, it was clear Frel had made up his mind.
"Hey!" He shouted to the group.
"What?" The person appearing to be the group leader asked.
"Why did you do that?" Frel asked.
"Because he has a girl's name and he's a stupid boy!" The leader laughed.
"See what I mean?" Fallen asked.
"Why? You gonna do something about it?" The leader asked.
"You look weak for a monster trying to pick a fight!" A different kid laughed.
"I'm… Half monster and half human." Frel stated.
That silenced the group and the yellow disappeared from Frel's soul.
"So. Freak. I got a question." The leader said. "Do you turn into dust?" He asked.
Frel's eyes widened before he was attacked. Grey liquid started to leave his arm and he could feel something tugging at his soul.
'Fallen…' Frel thought.
"I'm right here kiddo." She said, hugging him.
'It feels like time stopped.' Frel thought.
"It does. It always does." Fallen said.
'...You're crying.' Frel thought.
"It's just been a while since I felt this kind of pain. "Fallen replied.
'It hurts.' Frel thought then dropped to his knees.
"Guess I should thank dad for giving me his old knife!" The leader joked.
Peter emerged from the crowd that had formed and surrounded the event and got in front of Frel with his arms out.
"Out of my way!" The leader shouted, shoving Peter to the side. He was about to attack Frel again, but a green bubble surrounded him. "Stupid!" He shouted then kicked Peter.
"Wait… His dad…" Fallen said. "…Sorry buddy." She said shortly after.
Frel's soul appeared in front of him, this time covered in black.
"Nothing personal." Fallen said. She then proceeded to use Frel to beat up the guy with the knife.
'Fallen STOP! IT HURTS!' Frel cried.
She froze momentarily to realize he was crying as she possessed him. She had the boy pinned on the ground so she stepped on his elbow. "Tell your dad Frisk says 'high'." She said.
"what are you doing kiddo?" Someone asked from behind.
Fallen froze and slowly turned around.
The pupils in Sans' eyes disappeared when they met Frel's. "…i think you made your point." He said.
Fallen nodded. She dropped the boy's arm then gave Frel back his soul, making him collapse from the strain.
The bully got up and ran away and the black drained from Frel's soul.
"...Your dad is on the way." Sans sighed.
Frel nodded.
