Piper was scared, she wanted to kiss Alex, of course she did, but not like this in front of people like JJ and Cole. Alex seemed to sense her discomfort because she stood up from the circle and said, "this is lame, I'm going to get a beer, you wanna come piper?"
The blond didn't need asking twice. She was on her feet and followed behind Alex. The others jeered them both, but Alex turned and flipped them the bird.
In the kitchen Alex was hunting for a drink. Right at the back of the fridge she found a bottle of Domaine Servin Chablis Grand Cru Blanchots. "I love this shit," she said removing the bottle.
'Should we be taking that?" Piper said, "won't Kat be upset?"
"Kat owes me," Alex said pouring them a glass each.
The wine felt good, cold and crisp across Piper's tongue, notes of pear and citrus with a hint of bay. She knew some facts about vineyards and the different soils that were used, but she wasn't sure if Alex would be interested. Alex seemed too cool for facts about moisture content in soil.
"Sorry about the guys," Alex said, "they can be jerks sometimes."
"It's cool," Piper said, "I mean I wasn't sure what I was meant to do?"
"Let me show you," Alex said, leaning in and kissing the blond.
It was electric, it was more than Piper had ever imagined a kiss could be. She felt all of her senses heightened all at once and a warmth emanating through her body. Alex pulled away and took another mouthful of wine as if she'd just done the most casual thing in the world. But Piper felt as though someone had set fire to everything that she had previously believed.
"So you known Kat for long?" Alex said.
"A little while," Piper said, not wanting Alex to think there was more going on between her and Kat.
"Who were you talking to in the bar earlier?" Piper asked, feeling braver now she had some wine inside of her and the most gorgeous woman in the world had kissed her.
Alex shrugged. "Just business kid, nothing exciting."
Piper wasn't convinced, she was sure that Alex Vause could make even the most mundane things exciting.
Alex picked her bag up from the kitchen floor. Inside was a thin book.
"Have you read this?" It was a book by Aung San Suu Kyi called Freedom from Fear. "It's about human rights abuses in Burma," she said.
Piper didn't know what to say, she was just about coping knowing she'd kissed a tall sexy dark haired woman and now she found out she was intelligent and well read too?
"I would love to read it," Piper said and then they kissed again. Things started heating up. They both put their wine glasses down and went to the bathroom, bolting the door behind them.
The sex was amazing, heightened by the sense of being caught any minute by someone knocking on the door. Piper came so hard she had to bite down on a handful of toilet paper so as not to make too much noise. Alex found this hilarious.
Then there was a knock on the door, it was Kat. "Guys, you ok in there?"
"Piper's sick," Alex said instinctively.
Lovesick piper thought to herself.
"Oh ok," Kat said, "let me know if you need anything."
After she left Alex said "we better get going kid, but how about we head back to mine?"
Piper didn't hesitate with her answer.
