Alex's apartment was something to behold, all exposed brickwork and wrought iron. The floor to ceiling windows looked across the city and the fridge was stacked with expensive champagne and persimmons.

Piper wandered over to the bookcases lining the back wall of the living area. There seemed to be just about every conceivable novel. Piper made a mental note to ask if she could borrow the castle by Kafka.

"This place is out of this world," Piper said. It felt like a proper grown up apartment, sophisticated and sexy. Just like the resident.

"I like it," Alex said, "it feels like home."

Piper removed her jacket and they wandered to the kitchen. Everything looked shiny and high end. Alex opened a bottle of Cristal, took out two cut glass flutes and poured them each a glass. She used Bluetooth to connect her iPhone X with the Bang& Olufsen sound system and chose to play Miles Davis' seminal album- "kind of blue."

Piper was already feeling a little tipsy from the party earlier, but a couple of glasses of the Champagne and everything felt mellow. She felt able to unwind, like a corkscrew.

They sat on the couch overlooking the city, the lights twinkling like stars. It all felt incredibly romantic, especially when Alex leaned in to kiss her. She tasted of alcohol and promise and this was threatening to stray into deeper territory. But just as Piper thought things were going to hot up, Alex pulled back.

"I'm sorry," she said. "The thing is like you."

"I like you too," Piper said confused as to why this meant they had to stop. She wasn't usually like this, but this woman had made her want to push her boundaries, so she didn't just feel like some middle class girl from Connecticut.

"I don't want to rush things, I'm just not very good at this stuff and you seem like someone I would actually like to get to know."

"Oh" Piper said not expecting this confession. Part of her was finding this really sweet, but the other part of her was horny as fuck and wanted to ride this train back to the station.

"Alex, I really like you too," she said, not knowing if the alcohol was now taking over. "But I also really really want you to fuck me against the refrigerator."

"Wow," Alex chuckled. "And here was me thinking you were going to ask me to recite poetry or some shit."

"Poetry isn't just words," Piper grinned.

Alex didn't need to be asked twice.

The next morning they woke up in bed.

"Morning," Piper said stretching out across the bed. Alex was sitting at her desk on her laptop.

"Oh hey," Alex said, "you sleep okay?"

"Mmhmm, you wore me out," Piper said. "I lost count of how many time's you made me come. I lost count after 7."

"All in a days work," Alex laughed.

Just then the apartment intercom buzzed.

"I'll be back in a minute," Alex said, kissing piper on the lips before going to check who it was.

She returned a few seconds later. "It's the cops," she said. "I just need to head down to the station." She pulled on jeans and a sweatshirt, grabbing some sneakers by the bed.

"Help yourself to whatever, I'll be back soon." And then she was gone leaving piper with a whole lot of unanswered questions and a huge hickey on her neck.
