In the evening Alex prepared them fish tacos with the most zingy and delicious guac that she'd ever tasted. It was all so authentic tasting and she told Alex that.
"These are so good they taste like an abuela taught you how to make these," Piper laughed.
"I've got no idea about an abuela or otherwise," Alex said helping herself to another taco. "I don't know much about my family except for my mother and aunt."
"What about your dad?" Piper said, refilling their glasses with Castillo Ygay Gran Reserva Especial Blanco 1986. The dryness felt crisp across Piper's tongue and she made a mental note to recommend this variety to Polly.
"Total deadbeat," Alex said taking a deep sip of her drink. "Left when I was kid, I don't really remember much about him thank fuck."
"Why did he leave?" Piper probed further.
Alex shrugged, "just a giant douchebag I guess." Her eyes had darkened as she spoke of her father, like dark clouds rolling across the sky.
Piper decided to lighten the mood.
"My friend, Polly, is throwing a house party tomorrow, will you come?"
"I can't tomorrow kid, work stuff," she said. "Can I take a rain check though?"
In all honesty, Piper would have been happy to just go back to bed and have sex all evening, but this rebuttal of the invitation bought back the uneasy feeling from earlier.
"So you think your ex will be back?" She said, changing tack.
"Sylvie?" Alex said guffawing. "I hope to fuck she doesn't."
"She seemed really angry about something," Piper said, watching the brunette's face for a reaction, but there was nothing discernible, Alex just sipped her wine and looked sexy.
"Alex, I just really like you is all," Piper said. "I've never felt like this about a woman before...well anyone really. And I know that sounds crazy because we've only just met and that really isn't me either, but I just need to know that you're being honest with me."
Just then Alex's cell began to ring. She picked it up and grimaced.
"Sorry Pipes, I really need to take this," she said, hurrying into the bedroom.
Piper sighed, this wasn't going remotely to plan. She sat for a minute or so picking at the food, faintly hearing Alex's hushed tones, eventually her curiosity got the better of her. If Alex was doing something shady, then she deserved to know before getting in any deeper- if that was possible.
She crept across the expensive wooden flooring to the bedroom. The door was slightly ajar and the lights remained off. Alex sounded harassed, her voice slightly raised.
"So she fucked up, how's that my problem?" She said. She waited for a reply then continued, "Farhi, you know I'm doing my best, but things are difficult right now, my mom is still recovering from her accident and Sylvie is sniffing around again."
There was a silence again and then another sigh, a tired one this time. She heard Alex agree to something and then say "yes, tomorrow is still on." Then she hung up suddenly and Piper almost slipped in her hurry back to the dining table.
When Alex returned to the table however, there was no explanation, not nothing. She pulled Piper up by her wrists and kissed her so hard that Piper almost forgot to breath. Alex took her by the hand into the bedroom. Piper's mind was screaming at her to say something, talk things over and find a resolution. Alex was hiding something and Piper needed to know what that was. But the feeling of the brunette's warm lips against her neck was irresistible and then she began whispering exactly what she was going to do to piper as she began slipping off the blond's clothes. And just like that Piper's resilience disappeared.
