"The weekend!" Honest came flying down the steps of the school and right at Shadow.

"I can't wait to go home and eat the couch- I mean a snack! It feels like I want to eat something as big as a couch, though..." Her excited exclamation dissolved into a silent murmuring at the end.

Then Honest realized that Shadow was talking to somebody. "Who is this?"

The fan character standing in front of them had dark brown fur and long, brown hair that hung to just a little above her waist. She had a textbook clutched to her chest, but when she removed it and let it hang loosely from her gloveless hand beside her, Honest could observe that she was wearing a hardly-modest blue and red skirt and blue and red... shirt-thingy. What do you even call that thing? An external bra? Typical fan character apparel. What stood out the most on her was her mismatched, orange and blue eyes.

"I'm Daniela," she spoke.

"You're a hedgehog?" Honest asked, not knowing what else to talk to her about.

She looked disconcerted by what Honest had said. "No, I'm a hedgefox."

Honest blinked a couple of times. "Hedge... fox?"

Daniela crossed her arms, further making her look upset. "My dad was a hedgehog, my mom a fox." She looked at Shadow. She didn't say anything, only giving him a death stare incomparable to anything he had ever received prior to then.

"I've heard of hedgecats!" Honest said, lifting a finger. Despite how dispirited Honest had seemed just a moment ago, she possessed the strange, innate ability to change emotions at the drop of a hat.

She then looked up at Shadow. Shadow squeezed Honest tail instantly. "Ow! Let go!" She pulled her tail away. "I didn't mean anything by that!" When Shadow had looked away, Honest whispered, "Maybe.." Shadow sighed.

Daniela widened her eyes and moved her head as if she were trying to piece together a puzzle. "So you two are.. dating?"

Honest spit out invisible tea and Shadow tried to whistle but failed because he didn't know how. Daniela returned her head back to its original position. "Uh-"

"No!" Honest exclaimed, taking a step away from Shadow. "We're friends!"

Daniela narrowed her eyes and pulled her textbook to her chest yet again. "Really, really good friends, right?"

Now it was Shadow's turn to defend them. "Opposite sides of a dime."

"Yeah!" Honest said, taking a larger step closer to him this time. "And that means what again?"

"You know," he replied, shrugging using just his hands. "Two of a pair."

Honest looked hurt as she bit her lip. "I'm not sure I like that relationship." Honest was now clutching onto his side as if she were hanging on for dear life.

"What would you rather?" he asked, not knowing what answer to expect.

"...Eternal, undying partners in crime and in justice?" Shadow had an expression I'm having trouble describing. Um, his eyes were kind of wide, he was staring into Honest's eyes. His mouth was sort of agape but not really... what is that called? He was... startled? But he wasn't scared... IDK. Anyway, I have something totally important to write about next, so...

*timeskip brought to you by Couch Nuggets. Mm, fluffy!*

It was Monday, May 1st, and Honest the Cat and Shadow the Hedgehog were walking from the cafeteria towards the front of the school. Honest suddenly stopped and pointed at something in the road. "Land fish!"

Shadow looked to where she was pointing. It was a stick with leaves attached to it. It was being picked up by the wind and carried along the asphalt.

"Out of the corner of my eye, it looked like it had fins!" Shadow rolled his eyes and reached for Honest's hand.

"You're delusional. Come on," Honest let him pull her away.

Daniela had been watching from the sidewalk. She followed them when they walked by.

An echidna lady from the Station Square community college came to their school to beg them to come to her college. She handed out pages of paper listing some of the classes they had at the college. Everyone was asleep or falling asleep. Honest, meanwhile, was excitedly looking over her sheet of paper. "I'm going to take graphic design, one programming language, office management, computer sciences-" Shadow was watching her point to things in the list while holding his head up with his hand, trying desperately to stay awake.

All of the tenth and eleventh grade students were there. Honest scanned the group of students below them. Jet was not with them. She sighed and crumpled up her piece of paper, yet another example of how she could change attitudes extremely quickly. Where was he? He had been gone for... Honest had lost count! Four weeks? Five weeks? A whole month? M-Maybe he was going to skip school for the last month and then come back next year? ^^; or maybe he had gotten involved in a multi-million dollar bank robbery and was now serving life in prison? Maybe he had already found another girl and had gotten married or something crazy like that? Honest sunk down in her seat. Shadow didn't even acknowledge her. He was just intently watching the college lady walk back and forth in front of them.

Sonic didn't show up to school May 4th, 2017. He had an interview at the local Pizza Hut (Hedgehog Hut if it bothers you). Honest remembered back when Sonic used to work at Hedgehog Hut. That was back when he was voiced by that Griffith dude that also happened to voice Shadow at the same time, and it was always very awkward when Sonic would grumble and sound like Shadow or Shadow would try to sound sarcastic and would sound like Sonic. He had to quit his job when the games were taking away from his time spent working. The only reason he started out working there was because the guys at Sega of America wanted money for pizza and Mountain Dew (or Hedgehog Dew) for when they were supposed to be working on the next game but weren't, and they knew they could bait Sonic with the idea that he would earn money for chili dogs.

After lunch, Honest and Shadow were sitting on the stairs, talking. Suddenly they saw what appeared to be Sonic in a Hedgehog Hut uniform. He was running speedily down the street with a couple boxes of pizzas in his hands.

Shadow pointed and laughed as he ran by. "Ha! That faker got the job, I see."

"Why would he not be hired? He's a walking commercial anyhow," Honest pointed out. "Great for business!"

"Wait... Does that mean they would be stealing Sega's mascot?"

Honest and Shadow thought for a moment. "Maybe that's why he's just delivering pizzas instead of being in commercials. He can do that, can't he?" Honest asked.

Shadow just sighed outwardly. "Why are we even talking about this? Let's just soak in the rest of this sun before we have to go back to class..."

I'm going to keep this chapter fairly short, or else you'll never get a new update. See you next time, on Sonic X!
