This was written a long time ago. Excuse the dates.
(I guess I wrote this in preparation for the first day of school, not as the events were happening.)
It was August 16th, 2017 and also the first day of school for Honest and the rest of the Sonic weirdos. Honest and Shadow compared schedules at the front steps. They had relatively the same classes, but what they didn't have in common was okay, right? If only Honest had the courage to talk to Mephiles and find out his schedule so she'd know how to avoid him, but right now he was emerging from a sewer grate and this creeped her out. Instead she went to compare schedules with Scourge.
It was incredibly hard to find Sonic whenever you needed him. He came to school with them... didn't he?
When Honest was finished talking to the green pineapple with red sunglasses, she turned around to find that Sonic had finally shown up and was talking to Shadow. Honest said bye to Scourge and walked over.
"Oh, hey, Honest," Sonic said, greeting her. He gave Shadow's schedule back to him and took Honest's. "Mhm, mhm." He turned to Shadow. "I guess I'll be seeing you fourth." Sonic began to leave.
"Wait!" Honest grabbed Shadow's schedule again. "Oh, no. This can't be!"
Honest and Shadow didn't have fourth period together. She had a virtual class, Spanish II, that period, but Shadow had Algebra II.
"I'll be okay for one period without you," Shadow said, slightly irritated, as indicated by the pulsing vein on the side of his head.
"But you'll have class with Sonic!" Honest reminded him.
"Honest, I have been around Sonic for 16 years. I'm pretty sure I can handle being in the same classroom as him for 1 year."
"Okay..." Honest said, sighing. "We have first, second, and third at least." She thought for a few seconds. "Ooh! And I have Advanced Placement art!"
"I love how your only advanced class isn't a main class, nor is it very academic," he said.
Honest nodded. Unlike most art teachers, hers accepted anime and cartoon-styled drawing as a form of 2D art. She even owned some books on it that she lent to Honest every once and awhile. Her face then began to twist into a frown. "Everyone who thinks they're smart enough to be in one of those classes is lying to themselves!" She shook her fist furiously.
When Shadow crossed his arms for about the dozenth time that morning, Honest latched onto his arms and spat in his face. "Do you know how much summer work you have to do?!" Shadow wrestled Honest off of him.
"That's precisely why I didn't attempt it as well."
Akane walked up to them. And so did Rouge. To do what? Compare schedules. Typical first day stuff. And that's what continued to happen the rest of the day. Boring~.
Until Honest and Shadow got home did anything somewhat interesting happen. Rouge was gracious enough to wait until Monday to have them start work at the café, so they were free to do whatever they wanted that afternoon.
Sonic kept bugging Honest to death, wanting her to collect emblems in SA2 every waking moment in her life. The only thing collecting emblems could do for them at this point was unlock a hidden level at 180. They were only just now about to break 100. Honest didn't get why Sonic had put her in charge of earning treasure hunting emblems. He claimed he just hated that mode of play. Honest, on the other hand, secretly enjoyed the treasure hunting stages. She liked the speed levels, too, of course, but neither of them wanted to touch the mech levels, though it would need to be done eventually.
I like to think that everybody knows about SA2. It's kind of an important game in the Sonic series. Tell me if you actually have never heard of it. I'm interested to see. I've known about it practically my whole life (if finding out about Sonic is like being born again), but I've only just bought it on PSN.
Somehow that sounded like what Tails said in SA2. "I heard about it on Satellite TV!" Obviously satellite TV is where everyone gets their information, even in the Sonic universe. It's the go-to place for knowledge nowadays.
On the second day of school (getting back on focus), Honest found her mind wandering every few seconds to something completely inappropriate and entirely Sonic-related. Each time this occurred, she nudged herself back-on-track by imagining Jet in a jet. She didn't know why that's what helped her, but it did. Shadow eventually noticed that she was zoning out quite frequently and attempted to investigate.
They were eating lunch in the lunchroom at the table they sat at last year. Honest was eating her applesauce with a fork ferociously, but then suddenly set down her fork and focused on a random screw in the wall across from them.
"Uh... Honest?" Honest immediately heard him and snapped out of her stupor, staring at him with her mouth slightly agape. "Are you okay?"
Honest just nodded carefully. Shadow sighed outwardly. "Close your mouth and tell me what you're thinking about."
Honest closed her mouth, but hesitated telling him what was wrong. She twisted her fingers around in her hair. She then reluctantly told him about the whole "Jet in a jet thing". He nodded the whole time, but when she had finished, he said calmly...
"Then stop thinking inappropriate thoughts."
As if it were the easiest thing to do in the world.
"But I can't! I have been away from the Sonic universe for way too long! Now that I'm back to writing about it and drawing it, I can't stop thinking about it! Especially you and Sonic. It's hurting my hea-e-ed.." Honest exploded.
"Honest," Shadow said, trying to calm her down for a second. "You were only gone for part of the summer. Quit freaking out."
"Y-You know... You're right. I should quit freaking out. Quit freaking out. Quit freaking out. Quit freaking out-"
"Oh, my goodness! It's Sonic! Sonic!" She waved her arms. Sonic walked over.
"All I've heard all summer long is your Adventure voice actor. Please say something with your new voice!"
Sonic motioned for Honest to switch to the seat next to her. Sonic sat in the space between Honest and Shadow. "Ahem. Yo, faker." Shadow looked up at him.
"Mm...mph!" Sonic hugged Shadow super tight, making Shadow actually be elevated out of his seat. Honest quickly stood up and rounded the table to take a picture.
Snap!
She snapped a photo of the beautiful moment. "First day of school, everybody! Heehee!" Sonic continued lovingly embracing the spiny, black pineapple.
(And I think I drew a picture of Sonic's super hug... I'll have to find it sometime.)
