Hello everyone, this is Just shipping. So recently I finished Moon Lovers and I am still sad with the ending. But I am staying hopeful for a season two. Because I am still sad about it, my days are filled with, reading fanfiction, watching SoSoo moments and a few funny moments with the princes. So I decided to write this oneshot to cope with the effect of the drama and I just hope that you guys like it. I have a lot of ideas for oneshots and fanfictions, but I hope that you will like it.
Please bear with the grammar as English is not my native language.
Author's note: I don't own Moon lovers.
Please enjoy!
Unexpected
Hae Soo was sighing. If it was up to her, she would have been taking a power nap during lunchtime. But unfortunately, she could not. This was another week that she had to clean the class room up. It's not fair, she thought, why am I doing this again? Oh right, she scoffed, thanks to someone she had to do this. Her so-called best friend had told her secret to her enemy and she was being blackmailed to do that. Hae Soo did not even tell her secret, but that fake person just figured it out and out of everyone she just had to tell her worst enemy. As if it was not enough that she also had to make her homework too, she also had to do this.
Flashback
She was writing some notes in her notebook, while listening to the teacher's lecture. He suddenly stopped and she looked up at him.
''Yah, the chalkboard is not clean. Who is in charge of it this week?'' he said while grabbing a list. Hae Soo continued to mark her notes until she heard a voice.
'''I'm sorry, teacher. It is actually my turn this week, but Hae Soo told me that she wants to do them this week too. So I agreed, but I did not know that she would not do it. If I did know, then I would have done it by myself.'' Hae Soo looked up in shock to see her enemy Yeon Hwa making an innocent face while she was lying to their teacher.
''Hae Soo, is that true?'' the teacher asked her.
She was going to say no, until she saw Yeon Hwa giving her a smirk and mouthing at her about her secret. ''I- I'm sorry, sir. I forgot about it, but yes I did say that. I will do it today for sure.''
The teacher was scratching his head and then gave her a smile ''It's okay, Hae Soo. As I know how hard working you are, I know that you sincerely forgot about it. Yah, you all. You should all learn from this hard working student, she even does the chores even if it's not her turn.'' Hae Soo looked down while biting her lip. Her fellow students stared at her in anger because they all thought that she was a smart ass, which they did not appreciate. But her teacher thought that they were looking at her in admiration. If only he knew the truth, she thought.
End flashback
So that is how she ended up here. Taking a sponge, she tried to clean the upper part of the window. Last week during her duty she had her friend Baek Ah helping her, but as he is sick this week, she is now on her own. Well, she thought, here goes nothing, as she was reaching out the sponge to do it. Standing on her tip toes she tried to do it again, but she still could not reach it. She sighed and decided to jump and clean, but before she could do that, the sponge was taken out of her hand and it was cleaning the window by someone else's hand. She frowned and turned around to see who it was. When she saw who it was, she gasped. Standing in front of her, was Wang So. The popular handsome Wang So who had a cold demeanor towards everyone and everything, even as he was popular. He did not care about the status quo and that was why no one interested him. His brother Wang Yo had left for college this year and was the same. Even if he was popular and cold to others, Wang So would often hang out with Soo's best friend, Baek Ah. Sure, they were cousins but even Baek Ah told Soo that Wang So did not really mingle with their other relatives.
''Of course hyung likes me the most because I never follow other people and just do my own thing. And that is something he appreciates. Plus, my other cousins do have their own… interests.'' Baek Ah told Hae Soo. She would scoff at him and tell him that his ego was getting too big.
But even if Wang So was often hanging out with Baek Ah and Hae Soo being Baek Ah's best friend (or second best friend, she should really ask Baek Ah who his first best friend is), they never talked to each other. Because if Wang So is the popular kid, Hae Soo is the awkward nerdy kid. She was not only recovering from a coma, she also was too clumsy for her own good, had an answer for everything and often she would say something without thinking about the consequences. And that lead her back to the question that first popped up when she saw him cleaning the upper part of the window.
''What do you think that you are doing?''
He did not look at her, but was still focussing on cleaning ''I think that it is obvious to see what I am doing.''
She rolled her eyes ''Let me rephrase that; what are you doing here?''
Now he looked at her, while dropping his hand that was cleaning the window ''I think that I could ask you the same question.''
''Yah, I am cleaning my class room. Wh-'' Before she could finish her sentence, he interrupted her.
''Exactly! Why are you cleaning the class room? Wasn't it your turn last week?'' He sounded a bit too fierce.
''Yes, but I …'' She was going to answer his question, until she realized something and frowned at him ''How did you know that my turn was last week?''
It was impossible for him to know, as he was a year ahead of her and they never had spoken with each other. She even thought that he did not know that she existed.
It looked like he was searching for something, until he cleared his throat. ''Baek Ah'' he said mockingly.
Okay, now she felt like an idiot. Of course her best friend would have told him as he also helped her with the windows. ''Oh, that's right.'' she said looking down, while sighing. She looked up at him again and gave him a small smile. ''Thank you for your help.'' she said while giving him a small bow and turned around to proceed with the other chores. He frowned at her and followed her around, while she was giving the plants some water, while mumbling something about drinking up.
''You still did not answer me.'' he said.
She turned around with a questioning look on her face ''You are still here?''
He smirked and bend down a bit to look into her eyes ''Why? Should I not be here?''
She scoffed ''It's not like I said that you should not be here! I am just wondering why you are here as this is not your classroom and isn't it…'' But he interrupted her, again.
''Baek Ah.'' he said
She frowned ''Huh?''
He rolled his eyes and looked away ''Baek Ah was worried about you as he will not be here this week and according to him; you are having a hard time. So he asked me to keep an eye on you.''
She scoffed ''That stupid sweet idiot. He should be focussing on getting better instead of worrying about me.'' While saying that, she did not see that Wang So was giving her an amused look before his eyes grew wide.
''But you cannot tell him that you know about it! He made me swear not to tell you and if he gets to know that you know about it, he will not be happy about it.''
''And give you lectures with poets in it about betrayal?'' Soo asked him while nodding her head.
He gasped ''You too? I thought that I was the only one who got those from him.''
Hae Soo shook her head ''Nope, he does that with everyone. Don't think that you are the only one.''
He grinned and then realized something. ''Right, you still did not answer my question, while I did question yours. Why are you doing these chores again this week?''
She gulped while thinking about something. She could not tell him that it was because of the fact that her enemy got to know something about her because of some fake best friend she got, who betrayed her for a seat at the popular table and a date with another popular boy.
''Well, I had nothing to do this week after school and knew how busy Yeon Hwa must be, that's why.'' She said while giving her an imaginary pat on her shoulder for coming up with that kind of excuse. That proud feeling did not last long as he gave her an unconvinced look.
''You should know that as Baek Ah being my best friend and cousin, I get to hear a lot about you. Which includes the fact that you and Yeon Hwa cannot bear to be in the same room.''
Soo was really going to punch Baek Ah for telling (too much) about her to Wang So. She was wondering what else he could have said. But impossible, he could not know everything, right? Right?!
''It is right that we cannot bear to be in the same room. But now we are not in the same room and just because we cannot bear each other, does not mean that I am that mean.'' she told him.
He shook his head while snickering. Hae Soo was wondering if he ever was so free as he was for these past fifteen minutes. Just before he could reply, the school bell rang and he sighed.
''Well, I will have to go as lunch is over now. But don't think you got rid of me that easily, Hae Soo! You will tell me, just mark my words.''
She tried to give him an unimpressed look as she was shivering of what he just said. Let's hope not, she thought as she saw him walking away. Just as she was going to put the watering can down, she yelped as she heard him talking again to her.
''Oh and before I forget. If you ever need help again, just tell me.'' he said while leaving now for real. Hae Soo just kept looking in shock at the place where he just stood. What on earth was happening today?; she wondered.
If Hae Soo thought that that was the only weird thing that happened, then she was in for a surprise. The next day she had a free period and before Yeon Hwa could trick her into her next trap, she smoothly made her way outside with her sketchbook and pencils. Leaning against a big tree where she could stay in the shadow, she started to sketch after she made sure that she was alone there. Hae Soo was so lost in her sketching, that she did not hear the footsteps walking up to her.
''What are you doing?'' She heard a familiar male voice and shrieked, which made her sketch a line that was not supposed to be there and she looked up to see who it was.
Leaning against the tree stood Wang So, while giving her an amused look with his hands in his pockets.
''You- you; what are you doing here?!'' she asked. He bend down on his knees to lean closer to her and gave her a grin.
''Again the same question?''
Hae Soo looked away so she could not get lost in those eyes and scoffed ''Well, it is a surprise to see you here.''
''Touché.'' then he looked at her lap ''Did you sketch this? No wonder you and Baek Ah are such good friends.'' As he wanted to grab her sketchbook to take a closer look in it, she closed it and held it firmly in her grasp.
''Are you jealous of our friendship? Trust me, it's not because I am a decent drawer that we are good friends.''
He turned around to lean with his back against the tree, which surprised her as he was now sitting next to her. He spread his legs out in front of him and crossed his arms again.
''Trust me, I know that it's not only because of that. But I don't think that you are a decent drawer; you are really talented. Of course Baek Ah is the number one drawer, but I would put you on the second place.''
Hae Soo had to smile at his compliment and relaxed. ''Thanks.'' deciding that it would not hurt to show him her recent sketch she opened her sketchbook and placed it on her lap so he could see it clearly. ''I decided to draw this, so it could make me relax.''
''Why peonies?'' he asked while looking at the sketch of the bouquet of peonies that were in a vase, with a window that gave a clear view of snow falling down.
She gave a small smile ''They are my favorite flowers, so it makes me happy to draw them.''
''Is it because of the hard time that you need to relax?''
She nodded.
''Look, I know that we just started talking, but sometimes it's easier to talk with strangers about some problems. I am not forcing you to tell me what it is, but just know that I am there for you.'' He told her while still looking at her sketch.
Hae Soo sighed and looked around. ''Fine'' she mumbled ''It's just that I am wondering if I really am so stupid that people can use me.'' Seeing his questioning gaze, she continued ''Not only was it enough for me to recover from that coma, which made my head hurt by trying and remember some things. I also have been betrayed, not once, not twice, but three times. The first two to do that were my ex-best friend and my ex-boyfriend, who were hooking up with each other behind my back. And now the other person I thought that was my best friend has also betrayed me. ''
''You mean that girl with the two pigtails who would always hang out with you?''
She nodded ''Yes, it was easy for her to betray me because in return she would get a seat on the popular table and a date with someone popular. It's not only horrible that she was using me, but also to tell Yeon Hwa that…'' Hae Soo realized that she was telling a bit too much and stopped her sentence, while Wang So looked at her with concerned eyes.
''Tell Yeon Hwa what?'' Raising an eyebrow, he continued ''Is this why you are doing her chore duties?'' Seeing her nod, he continued while sighing ''Next thing that you are going to tell me is that you are also making her homework.'' When Hae Soo kept looking forward without moving, he realized that he was not far from the truth.
''Does Baek Ah knows about this?''
She shook her head ''No, but as he was wondering what happened between me and Chaeryung, I had to make something up. And I would appreciate it if you don't tell him. He does not need to worry about me.''
He scoffed ''I think that my cousin was right to worry about you. Look at what happened; you are exhausted and those dark circles underneath your eyes were not there before!''
She blinked ''How do you know that?''
He looked at her while leaning in ''I don't know what you think about yourself, Hae Soo. But you are not as invisible as you think you are.'' Her eyes got bigger as she was shocked how he was getting really close to her.
''Wh-what do you mean?''
He was still so close to her ''You really need to give yourself more credit.'' He smiled at her. ''But is that secret that worse that you are letting her do this to you?''
She gave a bitter smile; how ironic was it for her that he of all people would ask it. ''Well, let's see. It's not like I like it how she can control me, but this was my secret. I even did not tell Chaeryung about it, but somehow she figured it out.''
Wang So sighed ''I can understand. But let me tell you one thing; your secret does not have to give her such a big control over you. Do not give them that power.''
''Easy for the popular kid at school to say, difficult for the clumsy nerd like me to do.'' she mocked at him.
He turned towards her and ruffled her hair ''Once again you are underestimating yourself. Also, I did not choose to be popular. My brother was here before I got here and just being his little brother made me popular.''
She scoffed ''That is not the only reason that made you popular.''
He gave her an amused smile and leaned close to her which made her lean backwards more ''Oh and do tell what you think that made me popular?''
Why is he this close?; she thought by herself. ''Well let's see. You do not follow the crowd. You look cold to people and you are handsome.'' Realizing what she said at the end, she placed her hands on her mouth to stop talking. He laughed at her reaction.
''So I am handsome?'' It did not help Hae Soo that he was still so close to her. Blinking, she cleared her throat and sat right up, which made him pull back. But he was still so close to her.
''Well, a lot of fellow students keep talking about how handsome you are and then they shriek when you pass them. You cannot say that you never heard them shriek.'' It always hurt her ears and she doubted that she was the only one.
''And what do you think? Am I handsome?''
She was hoping that he would not ask her this question. ''Well, you are not ugly.'' she said hoping that it would satisfy him.
He smiled ''Not ugly, I heard someone once say that no one is ugly. But do you think if I am handsome?''
''W-why are you asking me this?'' she asked while frowning at him. ''I don't see why my opinion is that important to you.''
His amused look faded as he gave her a serious look ''Your opinion matters a lot to me, Hae Soo. You really should not underestimate yourself.''
She felt the blush that must have been visible now on her cheeks and her heart was beating so hard. She was afraid that he could hear her heartbeat with how close he was sitting next to her. Hae Soo was thankful for the school bell that rang as she now had an excuse to walk away.
''My free period is over now, I really need to go to class.'' she said with a very low voice. He smiled at her again and stood up.
''Let's walk together, I also have to go to my next class.''
She shook her head ''That's not necessary. You go ahead to your class room.''
He grabbed her hand. ''I know that it's not necessary, but I want to. Come on.'' And before she could say something, he pulled her with him to her class room while she was praying that her hands were not that sweaty while he was holding it. She was just glad that she was the first to arrive at her class room, because else they would be giving her hell about that. During the class, she kept wondering why he said all those things before.
The next day even got weirder for Hae Soo. She had decided to quickly take a power nap in the gym supply closet. Sure, she could have gone to the school nurse, but there she would be disturbed (Yeon Hwa) and not get a peaceful nap. So she made a temporary bed of the school mat with a blanket on it and put some attributes around her so no one could see her. As she was about to dose in, she heard the door open and before she realized it, it closed really hard. What now, she thought while making a whiny face, can no one let me get some sleep?! And before she could get up, she heard two familiar voices.
''So you finally decided to give me a chance? I knew that it would not take long for you to realize that I am what I needed.'' Hae Soo made a throwing up face as she recognized her enemy Yeon Hwa's voice. She was actually wondering to whom Yeon Hwa was saying this, but she already realized it when she heard another familiar voice.
''Do not give yourself that much credit. Like I am going to give my brother's ex-girlfriend a chance. Don't think that I don't know why you two broke up, I even warned him about you.'' Wan So told her. Hae Soo's eyes got wide in shock. Could this even get worse than before, what did she do to witness them hooking up? She wanted to cry as she realized that she could not go anywhere or else she would had to explain what she was doing here and like they would believe that. Then she would be the clumsy nerd who witnesses intimacy between two other students. Just thinking about what she was going to witness, she felt sadness coming over her.
''Oh, then why did you tell me to come and meet you?'' She heard Yeon Hwa ask him as she could also hear her footsteps.
''I want to talk to you about your recent actions.'' She heard Wan So tell her, while hearing footsteps and was it her imagination or was his voice getting closer to the place where she was laying down? Oh please no, do not come here, she begged internally. If he would get any closer, he would be able to see her.
''What recent actions?''
''Leave Hae Soo alone! Stop making her do your dirty work and go on with your life. Just leave her alone!'' he told her strictly. Hae Soo could not believe it, did he just told her enemy to back off? Out of his own, he told her that? So that's why he was meeting her here. She was glad as she was not going to witness what she thought that she was going to witness earlier, but she was also happy of what he was doing for her.
Yeon Hwa gave a fake laugh ''So you know about that. Why do you care? Also, do you know what her secret is? I will give you a hint. it includes you.''
''It's none of your business, but if I find out that you are harassing her again, I will not be this friendly. And about her secret. It's her secret and she can share it with the people she wants to share it with. And I know that you are not one of those persons she wants to share it with.''
''But don't you want to know it?'' Please say no, please say no; Hae Soo prayed mentally, while clutching her hands together.
''Are you kidding me?! Did you not hear what I just said?! It's up to her who she shares it with as it is her secret. So leave her alone! Do I make myself clear?'' Hae Soo had never heard his angry voice, but she heard that if people did wrong to him, then they would pay for it. And judging by the sound of his voice, she just had to pity those people.
There was a silence for a while, until Yeon Hwa sighed.
''Why don't we make a deal?''
''There is no deal going to come.'' Maybe it was Hae Soo's imagination, but it sounded like he was losing his patience. Not that she could blame him, Yeon Hwa did have the ability to let everyone lose it's patience.
''Oh, I beg to differ. I think that it would be fair that I leave her alone if you and I are going on a date. Let me show you a nice time.'' Hae Soo really wanted to throw up by hearing Yeon Hwa's suggestion with her husky voice and she did not like the ache that she felt by hearing her talk like this to him.
''And like I said, there is no deal going to come. You are going to leave her alone and I am not going on a date with you!'' Before she could reply, he continued ''Or do you want me and my brother go to your family and tell them what you have been trying to do? Sure, I deleted all those messages you sent me, but knowing Yo, he has not. And I know that he would not mind to pay your family a visit to talk about you.''
Hae Soo had to bit her tongue to stop herself from laughing as she could hear Yeon Hwa stammer. ''F- Fine!'' she snapped and Hae Soo heard footsteps followed by the sound of the door slam. Not long after the second door slam she heard, she decided it was safe to get up. Sitting up, she gasped. What on earth had just happened? Wang So had stood up for her, even if she did not ask him to do that. Actually, she did not think that he would do something like that. Why did he do that? And he also got Yeon Hwa to back off.
She stood up and stretched while thinking that it was appropriate to thank him. But how could she thank him if he thought that no one listened in on the conversation that just had taken place. And how could she do it subtle?
Thinking about it made her head hurt, she decided as she was walking out towards her locker to get her books for the next period. Looking in her locker, she saw something that gave her an idea how to thank him. Walking to the class room, she sat down and grabbed her phone to text her friend.
Baek Ah! Do you know what Wang So's favorite drink or snack is?
It did not take more than five minutes to get his reply.
Yah! No questions about how I am or when I am coming back. But you immediately ask about my cousin. What happened these last few days that I was gone? *wink *wink
She scowled and replied
Get your head out of the gutter. I just saw you yesterday to give you your homework. And about your cousin; it just happens that he has helped me and I want to thank him. Just answer the question!
When the class was starting to begin, she saw that he replied to her. Reading it, she smiled, feeling proud of herself.
The next day she really did not know what to expect. The whole day it kept raining and it did not look like it was going to stop anytime soon. As it was lunchtime, she put some food on her tray and looked around for a seat. Normally she would sit outside, but because of the rain, she had to stay inside. Unfortunately, it was crowded in the cafeteria and the places that had empty seats were not really welcoming for her. She saw Chaeryung giving her an uncertain look and Hae Soo scoffed at her while looking away. She made the choice to exchange Hae Soo for that seat, so why was she looking at her like that?!
''There are enough empty seats where I am sitting, so come and join us.'' she turned around to face the source of the voice that was whispering behind her. Wang So gave her a smirk and already talked before she could say something.
''Before you are going to ask me what I am doing, I will tell you that I just got my lunch and I was going to go to the table to eat until I saw you standing here and that's why I am telling you to come join us.''
Smiling Hae Soo thought about it for a minute and decided to take his offer. How could she decline his offer after what he did for her yesterday? She did not think that he would do that for her, but she could not be mad at him for it. Even if she wanted to deal with it on her own, she was touched that he did it without her asking him to do it. Yeon Hwa even just took the homework she made for her and walked away without saying anything. Hae Soo nodded at him and his smile grew big. Leading her to the table, he pulled up a chair for her and both sat down. Looking up, she saw that they were not the only ones at the table. As Wang So was sitting across from her, next to her were sitting Wang Eun and his girlfriend Park Soon-deok. Baek Ah had introduced Hae Soo to them before and sometimes they had some small talks. Thinking about it, Hae Soo realized that the school was really filled with a lot of Wang family members. There were Baek Ah, Wang So, Wang Eun and Wang Won. And till this year Wang Yo was also attending this school. She then remembered that Baek Ah told her that even their eldest cousin had attended this school. And according to him, Wang Yo and So's little brother, would also attend this school next school year.
''What are you thinking about?'' She looked up to see that the other three were staring at her, Wang so with a smile and Wang Eun and Park Soon-deok with a questioning glance. Hae Soo shook her head and smiled.
''I was just thinking that you all are legacies here as all the boys of your family have attended this school.''
They had to laugh at this comment. ''Actually, our family only has boys. That's why there has not been a Wang female been here yet.'' Wang Eun told her.
''As our fathers went to this school, we also had to attend this school. Luckily, we get to choose our colleges on our own. But for that, we still have time, right Eun?'' Wang So said. Wang Eun happily agreed,
Hae Soo thought about it and nodded.
Lunch went by with some friendly chatting and laughing. She could not help but laugh at Wang Eun's childish antics and his girlfriend kept apologizing for him. Hae Soo noticed that she kept looking at her, but whenever Hae Soo turned to look at her, Park Soon-deok looked away. She must be wondering why I am sitting today with them, she thought by herself.
Just as the bell rang, Wang Eun and his girlfriend stood immediately up as they wanted to be the first ones to arrive for their physical education. As they left, Hae Soo realized something and she grabbed her bag.
Searching for the doggy bag in her bag, she grabbed it and looked up to see Wang So looking at her with an unfamiliar expression on his face. When he saw her looking at him, he gave her a smile and she could not help, but smile back at him.
''I wanted to give this to you.'' she said as she handed him the doggy bag. He raised an eyebrow and opened it to see what was in it. Seeing the content of it, he looked up at her with a big smile.
''Yakgwa! Awesome! How did you… Of course, Baek Ah. Not that I am complaining, but why did you give this to me?''
She was happy to see his reaction for the yakgwa and was glad that she already thought of something as her reason.
''Because I wanted to thank you for helping me this week. Be it with helping me with the chores or just for listening. I just want to say; thank you.'' Not that she could tell him that she heard him warn Yeon Hwa to stay away from her, but it was true that he has helped her a lot this week.
He chuckled ''You really do not have to thank me. Hae Soo, you really are something,.'' he said while they were walking out of the cafeteria after they had handed their trays over.
She looked up at him. ''What do you mean?''
He stopped walking and turned towards her to lean closer to her. Automatically she walked backwards as he was getting more close to her until she felt her back hitting something and if she had to guess correctly, she just had bumped against a locker.
Placing his hand above her, he leaned in to her more ''You do not have to thank me for those things, Hae Soo. I did it because I wanted to. Not that I am complaining about the yakgwa, because I feel flattered for your effort. It makes me feel special.'' She was wondering if he realized how close his lips to hers were, if he could hear or feel her heartbeat with his closeness and she really did not want to know how red she was. He brushed some lost locks of her behind her ear. ''Is it okay for me to feel special?'' he whispered.
She had to stop herself from falling to the ground with this closeness. When the school bell rang for the second time he sighed and leaned in to her ear again to whisper ''Because to me, you are special. I actually think of you as my person.'' he slowly walked backwards while smiling at her and thanked her again for the yakgwa, as she kept looking after him with her eyes wide open, trying to calm down her heartbeat.
She was glad that it happened on Friday, because the whole weekend she laid in bed, going over and over again about what happened between them. She just could not put her finger on it and during these times she was really missing some girl advice. Sure, Baek Ah did give good advice, but she really did not want to ask him as it is about his cousin. Myung Hee, her beloved cousin was on trip with her boyfriend, so she could not disturb them. She sighed and grabbed her hair. Honestly, she could not blame her mother for thinking that she was losing her mind. And it was all thanks to him. She grabbed her pillow and screamed into it.
When she arrived at school on Monday, Baek Ah started to lecture her about letting friends know if they are okay or not as she did not attend his phone calls or texted him back. His lectures also included poems about absence. She just rolled her eyes and told him that she knew that he would be back today and her weekend was just so busy. He looked at her with a raised eyebrow, but decided not to say anything about it.
''By the way, did hyung thank you for the yakgwa? He sent me a message to ask if I knew where you bought them as he really liked them.''
She shook her head. She had not seen him since she arrived at school and she was glad for it. She did not know how to react in front of him after their last moment together. She was also wondering how he would do as Baek Ah was back at school now. Would he still come and talk to her or did he think that now they had not to talk as their friend was back at school. She frowned, this made her think as if they were babysitting her. Before she could lose her mind, she grabbed her notes and prepared for school as today she would only focus on that.
She was making herself crazy! School was over and the whole day she had not seen or heard about him. Even without knowing how to act in front of him, she could not help the feeling of disappointment. Right now she was walking out of school, while Baek Ah was just telling her about an upcoming poetry contest.
''BAEK AH!'' she recognized that voice and already felt the effect of it in her heart. She hoped that Baek Ah did not hear her gasp. Both turned around to see Wang So walking up to them, carrying his school blazer on his shoulder with his right hand. She gulped and cursed herself. Just a minute before she was pouting that she did not see him and seeing him walking up towards her (and Baek Ah, of course) made her want to run away. Make a decision, Hae Soo!; she thought by herself.
''Hyung, what's up?'' Baek Ah asked with a smile.
Wang So shrugged and smirked towards her. Baek Ah saw him looking at her and cleared his throat.
''Right hyung, this is …'' But Wang So already interrupted him ''Hae Soo, I know that, Baek Ah.''
Baek Ah grinned ''I'm sorry, hyung. I just realized as you two being my best friends, I never introduced both of you to each other.''
''It's okay. As a matter of fact, while you were sick at home last week, we got to know each other, right Hae Soo?''
Because she did not trust her own voice right now, she just nodded.
''Right, hence the yakgwa. I forgot.'' Baek Ah grinned as he started to walk again, with the other two following him.
''Speaking of which, where did you get them from? They were really delicious! Baek Ah thinks that you got it from someone you know.''
She nodded and took a deep breath before she answered him ''That's right. My imo owns a bakery and therefrom I got them.''
''Wait, wait. Your imo has a bakery which sells amazing yakgwa and my favorite cousin never told me about this?! It looks like I am going to start giving you lectures about betrayal!'' he told his cousin who was already looking sheepishly at him.
''Sorry hyung.''
''Sorry does not cut it. Hae Soo?''
''Hmm?''
''You are going to have to take me there to that bakery this week, is that okay for you?''
She gasped with her mouth wide open. Is he asking me out?; she thought. Get over yourself, he just wants to eat the yakgwa of imo, that's it.
''Hae Soo?'' hearing her name, she snapped out of her thoughts.
''Huh?
Wang So chuckled ''I asked if you could take me there this week?''
She nodded ''Sure, no problem.''
''And what about me?'' Baek Ah asked. ''Can I come too?''
''As you did not tell me about these delicious threats, no!'' Wang So said coldly while glaring at his cousin. Baek Ah pouted and Hae Soo had to laugh at their conversation.
''It's not like you don't know where it is, Baek Ah'' she said ''You do not need me to take you there.''
Wan So grinned at his cousin ''You heard that! It's just going to be me and Hae Soo going there.'' She had to blush at that and he continued ''Shall we head there tomorrow?''
She stopped walking ''Wait. You are serious about this?''
He shrugged ''Did you think that I was joking?''
Now Baek Ah had to laugh ''Trust me Soo-ya, he's not joking. Hyung does not joke.''
She blinked and thought about it for a moment. Get over yourself, she scolded herself mentally, he just wants to know where imo's bakery is so he can get his sweets. It's not like a date. Just take him there and then he will know.
''Tomorrow I cannot and the day after that is also not possible for me.'' she told him.
''How about Thursday?''
''Sure'' she told him and she was afraid that she was going to pass out from the way he was smiling at her. This was a genuine smile, something she never had seen. Even last week when he would grin or chuckle at her, this was something she was going to remember forever.
''Cool. Let's go after school tomorrow.'' She could feel Baek Ah's questioning gaze at them and she nodded before she started to walk again. Both boys followed her until Wang So invited them over for a party of his older brother.
''It's just that our parents have a business trip this coming weekend and Yo-hyung decided to have a party as it would be a shame if we don't take the opportunity to do it.'' he said while scowling. ''So will you come?''
''Of course I will come!'' Baek Ah said cheerfully. ''But what about Jung? Don't tell me that he's also going to be there at the party. Don't you think that he's too little for it?''
Wang So chuckled ''You know my mother and you know my brother. Yo-hyung wanted him to be there as it would prepare him for next year. But mother, while she does not know of this party, decided that it would be better for him to go to a sleep-over. I also agree with her about that. Or else I will just only have to keep listening to Yo-hyung and Jung's wrestling matches and act like a referee.'' Baek Ah nodded at this.
''And you Hae Soo, will you also come?''
She looked at him to see that he was watching her. This was the first time that someone was inviting her for it. Normally Baek Ah would try to convince her to go with him, but he always failed.
''Well, I…''
''Of course she will!'' Baek Ah interrupted her before she could decline. Her eyes grew wide and she looked at him in shock. He kept looking at his cousin and before she could say something else, he interrupted her again ''I will bring her with me as she does not know the place. Just text me the time and we will come.'' She was really going to punch him and thinking of 100 ways to murder him, but she was pulled out of her thoughts as Wang So smiled at her. That smile made her forget everything.
''Great. I will see you tomorrow, Soo-ya.'' he said while he walked away. She looked confused; did he just call her Soo-ya? Turning to look at Baek Ah, she saw him already wincing and then she remembered something.
''Yah, why did you say that I was going to the party? You know that I don't attend parties!'' She asked him while punching him.
''Aish, stop it, stop it!'' he shrieked until she stopped punching him. Giving her a smile and placing his arm around his shoulder, he pulled her along with him.
''My dear friend, you really need to start and attend these parties. I know that you do not like them, but I think you should at least experience some of it. Also, hyung looked really happy to hear that you are going to come. Or do you want to disappoint him?'' He asked while innocently pouting at her.
She really started to wonder if her best friend knew about her secret. Sometimes it looked like he did and other times he did not. She sighed and reluctantly agreed to go to the party. He was right, she really liked the smile on Wang So's face.
''Perfect!'' Baek Ah said. ''We will go together and don't worry, you will not be alone. Trust me, you will not regret it.''
She smiled and shook her head at him. She just hoped that he was right.
Hae Soo caught herself on Thursday that she was putting more effort in her look. The moment that she realized it, was when she was struggling with tying her hair with a red ribbon. Why am I putting so much effort in this; she thought by herself. It's not like it's a date, I am just going to take him with me to imo's bakery and that's it. But she still decided to leave the ribbon in her hair as she did not want to waste the effort that she put in it. At least, that's what she convinced herself of.
School was over before she knew it and she saw him waiting at her locker. She stood still and gulped, trying to calm her nerves. Baek Ah walked ahead while calling his name.
''So-hyung, are you that impatient for the yakgwa?''
Wang So smiled at his cousin before he ruffled his hair.
''Shut up! It looks like you don't know how to give your hyung some respect.'' he said before he playfully punched him.
''Yah hyung, don't forget…'' Hae Soo did not know what he said afterwards as he was whispering in his cousin's ear, but was she imagining it or was Wang So blushing.
Baek Ah snickered as he pulled back and Wang So was groaning, but he stopped doing that as she came closer to him.
''Hey, are you ready to go?'' he asked her and she nodded telling him that she just had to put her books inside her locker and then they could go.
''Are you sure that you are not joining us?'' she asked Baek Ah, who smiled while shaking his head.
''I am going to write my piece for the upcoming poetry contest, so you two go ahead.'' Once they said goodbye, the two students left their school.
''So do you go often to this bakery?'' He asked her.
She shook her head. ''Not really, during the school holidays I work there part time. But during school, not really. But you really loved the yakgwa, huh? Baek Ah told me that it is your favorite, but I did not think that you would like it that much that you have to see where I got it from.''
He chuckled ''Yakgwa is my favorite. But what you gave me, were extra delicious. Maybe because your imo has a secret recipe, or maybe because you gave it to me.'' She blushed when he said that and was happy that she could change the topic when she saw that they had arrived.
''We are here.'' He looked at the door and the street where it was.
''Wow, it's even not far away from school. I am going to kill Baek Ah for not telling me about it sooner.'' he said as he opened the door for her to enter first.
She smiled at him as he followed her inside ''If you do that, won't you be lonely then?''
He chuckled ''I won't be lonely.''
''Really?'' she asked with a raised eyebrow.
Before he could answer her, he heard someone call her name.
''Soo-ya?'' Hae Soo turned around and saw her imo looking at her with a questioning glance at Wang So. Her eyes widened and she walked towards her.
''Hello imo, how are you? I hope that we are not disturbing you.''
Oh Soon-yeon smiled at her niece.
''Don't talk rubbish, Soo-ya. I am never too busy for my favorite niece.''
''I am your only niece, imo.'' Oh Soon-yeon smiled at her niece and turned towards Wang So. ''And who did you bring with you today?''
He walked up to her and introduced himself. Hae Soo could see her aunt smirking at her and she quickly looked away. Her aunt was too smart and she did not want to confirm something that was not.
''So you are the one Soo-ya got those yakgwa for?''
Wang So smiled and nodded. ''I love yakgwa and I never have eaten them that delicious as the one she gave to me. So I just had to know where they were from. Thank you so much for the delicious yakgwa.''
''Your words are too kind. Thank you for the compliment. I was wondering why she was begging me for fresh yakgwa that morning, but now I understand.'' Hae Soo wanted to fade away when she felt Wang So's eyes looking at her amused and questioned why her imo had to say that. Why don't you two sit down and I will give you some treats to eat, including yakgwa.''
Wang So grinned while nodding and followed her imo. Hae Soo was confused. She thought just to show him the bakery and afterwards she would go home. But he turned around when he saw that she was not coming and gestured her to come. So he wants me to also sit down with him; she thought by herself. But of course, her imo asked both of them to sit down. Realizing that, she quickly walked after them and sat down at her favorite spot.
''You two can sit here and I will get you your treats.''
''Imo, let me help you.'' Hae Soo said but her aunt placed her hands on her shoulders and looked into her eyes. ''Soo-ya, you do not need to help me. You just came from school. So sit down and keep Wang So company. If I need your help, you know that I will just ask for it. Okay?''
She looked to the ground ''Okay.'' and she wanted to pull her chair back, but before she could do that, Wang So had already done it.
''My lady, please sit down.'' he told her. She had to blush at this action and was relieved that her imo did not see that happen.
''You always do that.'' she told him.
''Do what?'' he asked as he sat in front of her.
''Pulling my chair back before I can sit down.''
''Do you not want me to do that?'' he asked her confused.
She smiled and shook her head ''I'm not saying that. I just think that it's very sweet. It's very gentleman-style.''
He chuckled ''Well, I can be a gentleman.''
The smile on her face could not go away. ''I don't doubt that.''
''And I think that it's sweet of you for begging your imo for fresh yakgwa.''
The smile on her face faded and she felt a blush. ''W-well, I had to thank you properly for helping me.''
His expression changed into something else that she could not recognize, but they were interrupted by her imo who put some sweets and tea on the table.
''Here you go. Enjoy these. Soo-ya, I put some extra gotgamssam for you.''
The two thanked her and as she walked away, he looked up at her.
''You like gotgamssam?''
She nodded ''Yes, they are my favorite.'''
He chuckled ''Then you must be happy that you can eat it whenever you want from your imo's bakery.''
''Actually my mom forbade her from giving me too much. When I was little, I would have a sugar rush and that gave my mom no good night sleep nor did it to me.''
He laughed at this ''Now you sound just like my younger brother Jung. He is already hyperactive, so my mom makes sure not to give him anything at night that will keep him awake. That's actually why I'm glad she has gotten him to that sleepover this weekend. Or else he would keep try to fight me and my brother until he wins.''
''Then why don't you let him win?''
He raised an eyebrow ''Let's see. If he ''wins'' then our ego would be destroyed. And Jung is someone who cannot let things go. He would keep bringing it up even when we will be of old-age.''
She rolled her eyes ''Man and their ego.''
He wanted to reply to her, but as she got a phone call, she excused herself and stepped away to get it. When she came back, she saw that he was in deep thought. Not thinking anything of it, she asked him if he was ready to go and he nodded.
Saying goodbye and thanking her imo they walked away. She noticed that he did not say anything and was just walking on automatic pilot. Just as they crossed one street, it started to rain. Cursing herself for not taking any umbrella with her, she started to run. As the rain was getting harder, she turned around to see if he was following her or not. But she suddenly felt someone pulling her back, turning her around and hugging her. Looking up she saw that he was hugging her.
''Don't act so dangerous, Soo-ya. You could have gotten hit.'' he whispered in her ear. She looked around and saw that she was apparently going to get hit by a cyclist and he had pulled her back with him in a side street. Just as she registered what was happening, he turned them around so that she was leaning against the wall and he was covering her by standing over her, with his hand above her head. She did not dare to look at him as she could feel his intense gaze at her, so she looked to the ground.
'Soo-ya…'' he whispered ''Do you know how beautiful you are?''
Was he joking? What was he saying? Confused she looked up at him and decided that it was a big mistake to do that. He was staring at her with such intensity, that she knew that she had to be red as a tomato.
He brought his hand up to caress her cheek and her eyes fluttered.
''You are so damn beautiful, Soo-ya. Not only from the outside, but also from the inside. Like thinking that you have to thank me properly, which you really do not need to do. But I guess that just makes you who you are. Still I would like to get to know more about you. Would you mind that?''
Was this for real? Was she dreaming? ''W-w-why would you like to get to know me? I am not that interesting or beautiful.''
He shook his head ''You are wrong. You are very interesting, Soo-ya. You always do something interesting. And trust me when I say that you are beautiful. But'' she felt the ribbon open and felt her hair falling down on her shoulders and back ''I like it more when your hair is loose.'' She saw that he was holding the ribbon in his hand. He kept looking at her and she was lost in his eyes. She did not know how it happened, but she felt his lips grazing hers. And before she realized it, they were kissing, hard.
She did not know how long they were kissing, until she heard something annoying. Realizing that the annoying thing was her phone, she reached for it and saw that it was her mother calling her. Quickly answering it, she turned around so she would not look at him. She had no idea how to behave now. After attending her mother's phone call, she turned towards him.
''Sorry, but I have to go back to my imo. My abeoji is coming to pick me up from there as it is raining hard.''
He nodded and reached out his hand. She looked at it questioningly.
''Come and I will drop you there.''
She shook her head ''No, that's not necessary. It is raining so hard, you really need to go home.''
He bend down to look into her eyes. ''You really do not think that I will let you walk alone after I saw how dangerous you can be by not paying attention to the road?''
She gulped ''That happened once, don't worry. I will be extra careful.''
He wanted to disagree, but just then his phone beeped and as he saw what he had received, he sighed ''You are lucky that I have to go and pick up my little brother. But text me when you get there.''
''I-I don't have your number.'' She stammered. What on earth was happening? First they were kissing and now they were exchanging numbers.
He grinned at her and gave her his phone to put her number in it. Once she did that, he gave her a miscall. ''And now you do. Don't forget to text me, Soo-ya. I will see you tomorrow then.''
She nodded while turning around to walk back to her imo as he was walking towards the opposite direction.
The next day she did not know how to feel. She did not sleep much as she remembered their kiss and she did not know what to think of his messages. He had texted her back after she texted him first about reaching her imo safely. He said that he was glad to hear that and that he was looking forward to see her the next day. And during the night he texted her good night was a kiss emoji. It made her blush that hard, that her little brother was asking her if she was sick. And it did not help that her mother put her hand on her head and scolded her that she got sick as she was walking in the rain without an umbrella. How could she tell her mother that her temperature rose by thinking about what happened between her and another student?
When she arrived at school, Baek Ah gave her a look that she was wondering if he knew what had happened yesterday.
''So how was it yesterday? Did imo miss me?''
She chuckled ''I think she was happy that this time I took not someone with me who was going to eat everything she made for the customers.''
''Yah, do you have to be so mean? I did not finish everything when we were there!''
''Baek Ah, you could not stop trying everything. You just kept going on and on. The customers could not eat anything anymore as you ate everything.'' she deadpanned at him.
''I am a healthy teenage boy who is still growing up.''
''And that's why you need to eat fruit and vegetables. Not sweets!''
''Soo-ya, why can't you ever be sweet to me? I am your best friend.''
''Because you keep doing things that make me lecture you. The day you won't do them, I will be sweet to you.''
He stuck his tongue at her and she shook her head.
''By the way, I will come and pick you up at seven.''
She raised one eyebrow ''Pick me up? For what?''
Ruffling her hair he snickered ''Don't tell me that you forgot about the party at hyung's place.''
She gasped, that's right, today was the party. And she did forgot after what happened the day before.
''A-about that'' she stammered.
''Don't tell me that you are not going. I told you that I will be there and I got your back. Besides hyung is really happy that you are coming.'' Baek Ah gave her a look as if he knew what happened between them.
''Really?''
He scoffed ''Soo-ya, for someone who is the smartest person of our school, you sure can be dumb sometimes.''
''Yah, what do you mean?''
''Never mind. Just be ready at seven.'' saying that he started to focus on his school books, while Soo kept wondering why he said that.
She was nervous. If she thought that she was nervous before, right now she was the definition of nervous. As she was standing in front of the large mansion, she was trying to keep her heartbeat under control. As she felt someone ruffling her hair, she swapped the hand away.
''Done daydreaming?'' Baek Ah asked.
''I was not daydreaming! I was just waiting for you. Who was that on the phone with you? Your girlfriend?''
He laughed ''No crazy, as if I would have a girlfriend without telling you.'' he said as he rang the door bell. The door was opened by neither of the Wang brothers, but a fellow student.
''Don't forget it.'' She warned him while she was taking of her coat.
He nodded and then looked at her. ''Soo-ya, you would tell me right?''
''Tell you what?'' she looked confused while following him into the living room.
''When you get a boyfriend, you will tell me, right?''
She was done wondering ''Is there something you know, Baek Ah?'' she asked him while squinting her eyes.
''Should I know something?'' he replied as he also squinted his eyes while mocking her.
''Baek Ah! Is that you?'' Both turned towards the source of the voice and saw that it was Wang Yo, walking up to them with two girls under his arms.
''Hyung, that has been a while. How have you been?'' Baek Ah asked his older cousin.
Wang Yo just smirked ''Am I glad to be in college! More freedom and more beautiful girls to watch.'' Then his eyes shifted towards Hae Soo ''Hey, I know you. You are from my old high school. What was your name again?''
''Hae Soo.'' She was surprised to hear that someone as popular as Wang Yo knew about her. But by the way he kept smirking at her, she had the idea that something was going on.
''Where is So-hyung?'' Baek Ah quickly asked his cousin.
''He had to run out. Apparently our mother forgot to pack Jung's medicines with him. So, being the good brother that he is, quickly went to Jung's friend to give Jung's medicines. Anyhow you two enjoy this party, but please don't break anything. Otherwise my parents will find out about this party. Baek Ah, what did you tell your parents?''
''That we are watching a movie and that I am staying here for the night.''
''Nice! I thought you well.'' Wang Yo nodded approvingly at his cousin and Hae Soo and then left to greet the other guests.
Hae Soo frowned at Baek Ah ''Why are you lying to your parents?''
He sighed and ruffled her hair. ''Because my family cannot really keep secrets. If my parents know about this party, they for sure will tell my kun-abuji and kun-ahmoni about it.''
She glared at him while fixing her hair, but nodded as she understood it. Then she punched him ''Why are you ruffling my hair? You keep messing with it!''
He smirked ''Really? Since when do you care about that?''
''I- I don't. But I don't like when people are messing with my hair.''
''And that's why you keep brushing your hair with your fingers.'' he said while looking nonchalantly. Just as she was going to reply to him, he dragged her with him to the dance floor.
She was getting a headache from the loud music and the drunk people that kept dancing. Feeling the need to go somewhere peacefully, she told Baek Ah that she was going to wander around. After refusing his offer to join her, she walked around and did not realize that she ended going to the garden. Taking a deep breath she smelled the fresh air and walked a bit further. After a few minutes she realized that she was no longer surrounded by students and sat down at the grass field to look up at the stars. She did not know how long she had been watching it, until she heard a familiar voice.
''You came!.'' She turned her head to see Wang So smiling at her. Oh dearest, looking at his face, she saw those lips and she quickly turned around while trying to calm her heartbeat down.
''Well, you asked me to come. But you were not here on your own party.'' she hoped that her voice was steady as she answered him.
Chuckling he sat next to her and looked up at the stars.
''That's true. I apologize for my absence. But I had to deliver my little brother's medicines. Can you forgive me? It was a noble reason.''
She nodded ''Yeah, I heard about that. Tell me, how do you want me to forgive you?''
He thought for a while ''Maybe I can kiss you again?''
Her eyes grew wide in shock and she froze. Seeing her reaction, he chuckled again ''Don't worry. I will not kiss you without your consent.'' then he put his finger on his chin ''Hm, now that I think about it; I was not the only one kissing.''
She looked away ''May I ask you something?''
''You just did.''
She frowned at him and he gestured to her to ask him her question ''Why did you kiss me yesterday?''
''Are you mad that I kissed you?'' She heard the insecurity in his voice and shook her head. ''No, no no! I am not mad about that.'' Hello redness that must be dark by all her blushing ''But I just want to know why you kissed me.''
His eyes narrowed ''You really don't know?''
When he saw her shaking her head, he continued ''You are really something, Soo-ya. You are one of the smartest students of our school and you really do not know why I kissed you.''
She scoffed ''What is it with you and Baek Ah to tell me that? Just answer my question.''
He grabbed her chin and pulled her closer to him ''The reason why I kissed you, Soo-ya, is because I like you, a lot.''
She did not expect him to say that. ''W-why would you like me?''
He frowned ''Why would I like you?''
She nodded ''Yes, why would you like me? You don't even know me.''
He sighed ''You really do not remember, do you?''
Seeing her confused look, he continued ''You know that the first time I met you, was before you joined our school? It was not only my first time meeting you, but also Soon-deok's.''
''Really?''
He nodded ''It was during my first year at our school. I had to bring Soon-deok home from our martial arts-training. And she was miserable. Apparently girls were making fun of her as we had to practice in the park because of the warm weather. They were making some mean comments about her and her femininity.
''That's horrible. Why didn't you do something?''
He smiled ''I did not know that they did that, until she started talking with you.''
''Me?''
He nodded ''I remember that I walked over to the bench where you both were sitting. Apparently even you had seen the practice and instead of making fun of her, you were complimenting her. When she thought that you were making fun of her as those girls did, you told her that no one should be doing that as she showed everyone that she could kick some ass. You were really admiring her skills. And I remember that once she was convinced that you were being honest, she asked you if you thought that she was ugly. And then you told her that no one was ugly.''
Hae Soo remembered that he told her that on the day he saw her sketch. She frowned ''But why don't I remember this?''
He gave her a soft smile ''I don't know, Soon-deok was also wondering that. But it can be that you don't remember her because it happened before your coma and Baek Ah told me that you still do not remember everything. As for me, I was listening to you two from behind, so you could not see me.''
She gasped ''You were eavesdropping.''
''I was not! It just happened that you two were talking a bit loudly and I heard it. But that was not the only time you got my attention''
''It was not?''
He shook his head ''The second time was after you joined our school and when you were recovering from your coma. I remember that you were not letting Yeon Hwa messing with you. I admired how you were being clear to her.''
She grimaced ''You saw that?''
He grinned ''I saw it and I heard it. I could not help but admire that spark in you. I kept noticing you. Like when you help that ahjussi that always begs for food on the street near our school. I have seen you giving him a couple of times your food and drink. You are very sweet, smart, beautiful and I like your clumsiness. I like you Soo-ya and I want to get to know you more. That is if you will let me.''
She blushed when he said that. Out of all things, this was not what she expected to hear from him. Biting her lip, she started to talk in a low voice.
''Remember that I told you that Yeon Hwa blackmailed me, because she knew my secret?'' He nodded and she continued after clearing her throat. ''That secret was that I like you.'' She closed her eyes, waiting for his reply.
''How did she find out?''
Opening her eyes, she looked at him ''I made a sketch of you one time. I don't know when Chaeryung found it, but she saw it and told Yeon Hwa about it.''
''She found it out from a sketch you made of me?''
She looked away ''I think if anyone had seen it, he or she would have found out.''
''Really? May I see it sometime? I am really interested in how you sketched me.''
She nodded and he continued ''So you also like me?''
She nodded again.
''May I know why you like me? I think that's fair as I told you why I like you.''
She gave him a soft smile ''It's not because of your popularity. But I have seen how you stand your ground when you do not agree with someone. I have seen how you stood up for students that were bullied against their bullies, even if it is a teacher. I like how you do your own things and do not follow the crowd. You were also to be noticed as I have seen your sweet side.
''My sweet side?''
''I remember seeing you at the ice cream parlor with your little brother. You were cheering him up as he clearly had been in a fight. You even told him that he could take as many scoops of ice cream as he wanted.''
He laughed ''I remember that and I remember that I saw you there. So, I think I have to be honest, I saw you and I wanted to impress you. That's why I told him he could take as many as he wanted to.''
''What kind of way is that to impress someone? Thanks to you my little brother kept nagging at me that I was being too cheap as you told your brother loudly to take as many as he wanted, while I scolded mine to stick to two scoops.''
''But did it work? Because I really thought that it was a failed mission.''
She bit her lip ''Actually, I thought that was sweet of you. But you impressed me by something else.''
''Which is?''
''When the weather has run dry, sit and watch for the rising clouds'' she told him softly.
His eyes grew wide ''Wh-when did you, how did you?''
She smiled and thought back to when she read that poem for the first time.
Flashback
She just had arrived at Baek Ah, as they were going to make their homework together. Chaeryung had cancelled as she had other plans. Baek Ah lead her to his room and she took all her books out of her bag.
''Baek Ah!'' they could hear his mother call him.
''Yes Amma'' he replied.
''Come and get some snacks I made. I don't need you to starve sweet Soo-ya while she is helping you.''
Baek Ah stared at Hae Soo with narrowed eyes ''Unbelievable. I am her son, but she is worried more about you then me.''
She shrugged ''I cannot help it. She knows how much you need my help.''
''Yah! Who is the one…''
''Baek Ah! Are you coming to get the snacks or not?!'' His mother called him again impatiently and he knew that it would be for the best to get the snacks.
''Wait here for me, Soo-ya. I will come quickly.''
She waved him away ''Just go and get me my food!''
When he left the room, she saw a paper on his desk and picked it up. She frowned as she had never seen Baek Ah write like that. It was more neat then usual.
When the weather has run dry,
sit and watch for the rising clouds.
She smiled at the poem, it was very touching.
As he came back into the room with the snacks and tea, she looked up at him.
''Yah! I did not know that you could write more neat than before. And this poem, of all the poems this is one you were hiding from me! Why did you hide this for me?''
He laughed ''Because both are not mine.'' seeing her puzzled look, he continued ''That poem is written by So-hyung, not by me.''
''You mean Wang So?''
He nodded ''Yes, it's his favorite and whenever he gets bored or stressed, he writes it.''
She was progressing what she just heard and nodded. Suddenly she felt her hair being ruffled.
Scowling she looked at her best friend who gave her a hurt look ''So, you are telling me that hyung's writing is more better than mine? Yah Soo-ya, that is hurtful of you to say.''
''Maybe you should practice more then!'' she mocked him while punching him as payback for her messy hair. ''Now let's eat our snacks and then we will start.''
She did not realize that the poem would stay in her mind or his handwriting, as she busted herself when she was suddenly writing it in her notes.
End flashback
''Baek Ah never told me that you had read it.''
''Speaking of, does Baek Ah know about this?'' she asked while pointing towards them both.
He smiled ''He does know that I like you. I never told him, but he figured it out on his own. First he was not helpful, you should know that he is very protective of you. But he knows that I am not the messing around-type and actually started to scold me many times that he could introduce me to you, so I could ask you out. But I wanted to do it on my own.''
''That's why you took action when he was sick for a week.'' She told him sarcastically.
''Yah, it had a great timing for me. As much as I love him, I prefer to getting to know the girl I like without my cousin's snickering or smart ass comments.''
She could not help but smile at that. He leaned closer to her ''Soo-ya'' he said as he put his finger under her chin and looked into her eyes ''Would you like to go out on a date with me?''
She closed her eyes and smiled at him while looking up at him again ''Yes, I would like that.'' she told him in a soft voice. He smiled back at her and then his eyes fell on her lips. She saw him staring at her lips and saw him looking into her eyes again.
''Soo-ya.''
He did not need to ask her, as she already knew what he wanted to ask her. Leaning closer to him ''Yes.'' she whispered.
He leaned into her and kissed her. It did not take long for her to kiss him back.
Baek Ah was right, she did not regret coming to the party.
