Alright, here is chapter 2. If you are liking this story than you should go check out my friend Eklypse22 and his story 'Origin of the Chief! (A Pokémon Fanfic)' Disclaimer: I do not own Pokémon, though I do own my Fakémon. Now without further ado, let us jump back into the world of Pokémon.
Tregg investigated the duffle bag that sat on the ground in front of Mustard. Wondering which of the hundreds of Pokéballs held a good partner in this upcoming battle. His eyes narrowed in concentration, he needed to beat this smug bastard and wipe that grin off his face.
Then he once again heard the deep metallic voice in his head, "Arceus bestowed you with a gift for a reason, stretch out your consciousness and listen to the Pokémon that could be your allies. Come on, if you are to be my trainer you really need to smarten up."
'OK so at least I know this voice is a Pokémon. It is so unlike any I have ever heard though.' Tregg thought as he looked at the Pokéballs filling the duffle, 'But I do hope that it is right, and I can find a suitable ally in this battle.' So as the voice had recommended, he closed his eyes and listened. The mental voices of all the Pokémon were overwhelming at first, but then they seemed to guide him to one specific Pokéball. So, with his eyes still closed he picked up the Pokéball containing his ally for this battle.
"Alright, now that both trainers have chosen a Pokémon, we can begin the match." Said Mustard, "Both trainers shake hands and take your positions on the battlefield."
Tregg reached out to take Stephen's hand. Stephen gripped Tregg's hand and then twisted pulling Tregg closer to him so he could whisper in his ear. "You have zero chance; I will crush you no matter what matchup we have. Because you can never match my knowledge, never." With that he gave Tregg a concealed shove and walked away to his side of the arena.
'Geez, he is such a dick.' Tregg thought.
"I agree, that is one more reason to defeat him." The metallic voice boomed inside his head.
'you're right, I will beat him in this match for sure. I'm not backing down.' Tregg thought, then out loud he said, "alright Stephen let's get this match started!"
"Yes! Finally, a trainer after my own heart. Alright, this will be a one on one battle, the Pokémon you have chosen are your only allies. The match is over when one side is unable to battle." Shouted Mustard, "let's see those Pokémon boys!"
At Mustard's que, both Tregg and Stephen threw their Pokéballs toward the middle of the stadium. Out of Stephen's Pokéball emerged Metagross, a steel and psychic type. And out of Tregg's emerged Tyranitar, a rock and dark type. Tregg reached out his mind to the Tyranitar, until he felt rough hard thoughts scraping against his own.
'Yes human? What do you want?' The Tyranitar thought.
'Well I would like to know what moves you know.' Tregg thought back.
'I am able to use stone edge, crunch, fire fang, and earthquake effectively. Use my moves to the fullest effect.' Tyranitar answered.
"Alright then, I'll make the first move! Tyranitar use stone edge!" Tregg shouted to the dinosaur like Pokémon.
'Good choice.' Tyranitar thought. It then raised its foot and brought it down on the ground causing pillars of stone to rise from the ground all over the battlefield in the direction of Metagross.
"Metagross dodge it!" yelled Stephen, his voice steady, almost bored sounding.
Metagross, hearing its trainers request leaped into the air to avoid the rocks rising from the ground.
"Now before it can land, Tyranitar use crunch!" Tregg yelled.
"Metagross use iron defense now!" Stephen called.
As Tyranitar leaped into the air to attack Metagross its body became harder than before, boosting its defense and mitigating the damage of Tyranitar's attack. But that was not all, Tregg had a plan.
"Now! Tyranitar throw it to the ground!" Tregg yelled.
"Wait, WHAT!" Stephen yelled slightly flustered, "You anticipated iron defense! But no one has ever done that before!" It was now that Metagross smashed into the ground, hard.
"Now Tyranitar, dive and use fire fang!" yelled Tregg.
"Metagross! Quick use meteor mash as it falls!" shouted Stephen.
"Good, you are predictable. Now, catch it with fire fang." Tregg said.
"NO! Metagross stop!" shouted Stephen, but it was to late.
"Tyranitar flip it onto the ground." Tregg said calmly.
"Metagross use protect!" Stephen called frantically.
As Tyranitar flipped Metagross onto the ground it put up an energy barrier around its body protecting itself from the impact.
"Now counter with meteor mash." Yelled Stephen.
"No if that lands it will be super effective!" he yelled, then he thought to Tyranitar, 'Tyranitar can you take it?'
'Why yes, I can, thank you very much.' Tyranitar thought coarsely. "And I will, but not another one."
'Good once Metagross is in close grab its arm and throw it back to the center of the battlefield and use earthquake, that way all of the rocks from stone edge will fall on it.' Tregg thought back.
Tyranitar took the meteor mash right to the chest but managed to grab Metagross' arm and toss it into the battlefields center.
"Metagross use iron defense to protect from the impact!" Stephen said, with his usual overconfidence back in his voice."
Seeing that this was Stephen's response Tregg smirked. "Alright now use earthquake."
"wait that can't have been your plan all along, I would have seen through it." Stephen said, completely taken aback.
"it wasn't my plan all along, but plans change and evolve, just like Pokémon do. And that is how I battle. If you can adapt to your opponent, you can win." Said Tregg.
"B-but we don't r-really know it is o-over yet. I-it c-can't be o-over, I never lose." Stephen said shakily.
"Actually, we do," said Mustard, pointing to Metagross who was lying limp on the ground with swirly eyes. "Metagross in unable to battle, the winners are Tregg and Tyranitar!"
The rest of the class cheered after seeing such a hard-fought battle. However, Tregg didn't hear them. The metallic voice of the mystery Pokémon was back. "Well fought young human. Maybe you are slightly more worthy than I first judged you. But you are still a long way from being truly worthy of me and my power. First we must see if your body can handle the toll of your gifts." With that final remark the voice was gone, and Tregg found himself being led off the battlefield by his brother and cousin. He felt extremely weak, but it isn't as if he had fought the battle himself, although it certainly felt like it with the amount of pain he was feeling. Is this what the voice had meant by the cost of using his gifts? He winced as his chest flared with a pain unlike anything he had felt before.
His brother and cousin were leading him into the school now. He knew this only because the grass under him had made a change to polished marble floor. Tregg hated feeling so helpless, but he could not support his own weight if he tried. He knew this, but still. He wanted to do something so that Ashton and Connor weren't having to carry him. Tregg tried to open his mouth to say thank you, or something, anything but he could only wince as the pain flared stronger than ever. The last thing Tregg saw was Ashton's concerned face before he blacked out.
In the hospital later that day. Ashton and Connor are sitting in Tregg's hospital room.
"How do you think this happened? I mean he was fine this morning. Or at least he seemed it…" Ashton said to his cousin.
"Yeah, I know what you mean. And that huge bruise on his chest that they found when we brought him here. I don't think he could have functioned like that all day and still be able to battle." Connor thought out loud.
"Yeah but I don't think falling out of his bed would have caused that. And even if he tried, Stephen couldn't have done that much damage. I also don't think he would. Especially not with everyone right there." Ashton muttered, just loud enough for Connor to hear.
"He must have gotten it at some point. Injuries like that; they don't just appear." Connor said "but unless he started fighting wild Pokémon himself recently, there is no real explanation…" Connor trailed off as his phone had started ringing. It was a facetime call. "I have to get this." Connor said, rising so fast he knocked over the chair he was sitting in. The cousins looked at each other hopefully, then they both looked at Tregg. Who, being unconscious, hadn't stirred. Both boys sighed, disappointed but not surprised that Tregg hadn't woken up. "Yeah anyways, it's Lexel."
Ashton nodded knowing what that meant. Connor left the room saying hello to the black-haired girl with aqua eyes whose face had just appeared in the center of his screen. Ashton took this time to check his own phone. Menz, (she is a real person, but this is a codename for my brothers' sake. Your welcome bro.) had returned his text about cancelling their date that night. This is what he saw when he checked his phone: OK babe, I understand. Your brother being in the hospital is serious. I hope he wakes up soon. But in the meantime, is Sunday evening an option? Ashton smiled, 'I love that she is so persistent.' He thought as he typed a reply: Sunday sounds great. How about we meet at my place, is 7 O-clock good? He hit send still grinning.
Connor came back into the room, and upon seeing Ashton with his phone in hand and a grin plastered from ear to ear asked, "Sooo, you get a nice text message?"
A startled Ashton replied, "U-um y-yeah, I mean I g-guess so."
"Dude I'm your favorite cousin. I totally know you, your love life is safe with me." Connor said, miming zipping his mouth and throwing a key away.
Ashton sighed, "I know. But still, I don't like it being thrown out there like that in a place like this."
At this time in walked the attending nurse, Joy. Ashton winced, thinking she may have overheard. (and no, not for the reasons some of you may be thinking.)
"It might just take a while for him to be fully recovered." Nurse Joy told Ashton as she checked all the monitors and the IV drip in Tregg's right arm.
"Excuse me nurse, but what do you think could have happened to Tregg? The bruise they found was nothing to sneeze at." Ashton inquired.
"Well…" Nurse Joy dragged out the word, debating whether or not to reveal what she knew. Eventually she caved. Sighing, she told the teens, "Well, we, umm. We don't actually know what happened to him. Not really at least." Nurse Joy finished, fidgeting nervously.
"Of course, they don't know anything useful. Oh well, it was worth a shot." Ashton mumbled quiet enough for only Connor to hear.
"I know right." Connor whispered back with an eyeroll.
"What was that?" Nurse Joy asked.
"Nothing, I was just saying thank you." Ashton hurriedly replied.
"Yeah me too." Connor said a little too fast.
Nurse Joy just smiled and exited the room. Calling over her shoulder, "Visitation ends in an hour, so that you know."
"OK, thank you." Replied Aston with a weak smile.
Connor then remembered why he had come back into the room. Facepalming, he said, "Hey man, I have to leave. I totally forgot I was going to go to Lexel's house and teach her how to play Super Smash Brothers. I'll see you back here tomorrow though?" Connor asked, then quickly added, "I'm sure he'll be awake, its just he will probably still be here."
Ashton's mom poked her head into the room, "Hey kiddo, we have to get going. They will take good care of him here until he wakes up." Both Ashton and Connor could tell she had been crying. Her eyes were red and puffy and her voice sounded a little hoarse.
"Alright, here tomorrow. We come here together after school." Ashton said, giving Connor their secret handshake as they both left the hospital.
Tregg woke in a void of blackness. The first thing he noticed, (besides the giant black void around him) was that the pain in his chest was gone. He tried to walk forward but there was nothing there he was simply walking, so he picked up the pace running full speed. No destination in sight, getting nowhere, just running to feel the burn of his muscles, accomplishing nothing but at least needing to try. He could not even feel anything under his feet, but he was not falling. And he did not feel a sensation of floating or weightlessness as if he were swimming or skydiving. But one fact overpowered all the questions swirling around his brain, he was completely and utterly alone, with no way out. He had no way to escape and get back to his family and friends. He didn't know which way was up and which was down. There was just nothing, and so thoughts overtook his mind, filling his mind with questions without answers. 'Is this the end, am I just gone? After I just started at this new school? And got to meet so many trainers with the same passion for Pokémon as me? After I got to a girl I am finally interested in? Why am I here if not to punish me?' The only way he knew he wasn't blind was that he could see his own body clearly. 'So, am I here to think for all eternity, alone?' thinking this, Tregg cried out in panic, "Is there anyone else here, in this place?! Am I really all alone here?" receiving no answer to either question Tregg's body slumped, and he lowered his head. Excepting that he had no way out of this void prison.
As he lowered his head, a blinding light flashed off to his right. Causing Tregg to shield his eyes and squint. He tried to make out what the source of the light could possibly be, he could only see an outline. A deerlike creature stood in the center of the light, the lights source seemed to be a four-pointed ring around its middle. Tregg gasped and knelt, "lord Arceus, is that really you!?" the teen asked, surprised that the god of all Pokémon would deign to visit him.
"Yes child, I am here. Stand now; I have something that I would like to show you." Arceus spoke in a booming voice, somehow echoing in the void.
"What is it?" Tregg asked
"you will see soon enough my champion." Arceus replied.
"OK. Wait what!?" Tregg said, eyes wide in surprise, "Did you just say *gulp* champion?"
"Yes, I did. Are you saying you do not want to be my champion?" Arceus questioned. his eyes seemed to gleam as he asked this question.
"Of course not, my lord." Tregg said, slightly scared by the gleam in the god of Pokémon's eyes, "I am just wondering, why me? Out of everyone?"
"That will be revealed to you shortly young one. For now, let me tell you a story." Arceus boomed, and the shapeless darkness they were in began to change.
I know this was a shorter chapter, I'm sorry for that. But I hope you enjoyed it nonetheless. To recap, Tregg defeated Stephen in a Pokémon battle, somehow getting injured in the process, Ashton has a girlfriend *gasp*, and Tregg met the god of Pokémon! (though Ashton having a girl may be more surprising.) See you in chapter 3!
