Chapter 45: A Masked Pokémon to Bond With! Pt. 1

"Thanks for coming along with me, Kai!" Hau said gratefully as he and the Alola boy were moving across a forest in Melemele Island.

"Mm... No problem." Kaito stated as he pushed a branch aside so that he can get through.

It's been days ever since Kaito has discovered the alternate world and met Yuki, the white wolf boy and his father figure, Balto, the wolfdog. Ever since that time has ended, Kaito has explained to his school friends of the world that he had discovered.

Of course, some were skeptical to believe, except for Ash. Upon hearing about the alternate world, he was excited to hear about it as he asked for every detail. The reason for his excitement was because he had knowledge about the alternate world thanks to Isamu.

With that, the students were all alarmed to learn that the multiverse was the real deal. Kaito was more surprised that Ash had already knew about it, thanks to Isamu and the other friends that he traveled with in the previous regions.

After the news about the multiverse, Mallow had brought up a concert that a famous DJ was going to play. Sophocles, Hau, and Akira were into it. Kiawe and Camilla had plans to bring their younger sibling to their little concert.

But surprisingly, Lillie and Lana weren't into it much. Lana needed to head home while Lillie was the type that wasn't into a DJ concert that much.

So with that, the rest of the students attended the DJ concert, only to learn that the DJ of the concert was an old friend of Prof. Kukui.

"I can't keep that wig off of my mind, though... Why a wig? I've never felt so embarrassed before in my life..." Kaito thought, as he sweat dropped to the time when he had to wear a wig that so that he could be part of the DJ Leo and Dugtrio concert.

"Hey? Kai?" Hau called out, catching the Alola boy's attention.

"Hm?" Kaito blinked, turning to where the Kahuna's grandson was.

"You okay? Don't tell me that the concert was still giving you a bad time...?" Hau asked, causing the Alola boy to sweat drop as he scratched the back of his head.

"Can you blame me? I never liked wigs, and I probably never will... Besides, it's not my thing." Kaito sighed as he walked past his friend, causing Hau to give a sheepish nod before the two continued on into the forest.

"Bu..." Buizel snickered, earning a glare from his human brother, yet he didn't say a thing.

"Well, at least you had fun laughing at me for looking so silly... Ugh... Now I wished that I never went to that concert in the first place..." Kaito groaned in his mind, feeling exhausted already in a mental way.

As the boys and Buizel continued to make their way into the forest, they didn't notice that an unknown figure or a Pokémon was watching at them intently, looking rather either intrigued or irritated...

(Opening End)

"So tell me on why we're here again, Hau?" Kaito asked as the two continued to head into the forest, causing the Kahuna's grandson to smile before he explained.

"Well, ever since I heard that you and Ash passed gramp's Grand Trial, I wanted to take the Island Challenge and try it, too! Unfortunately... my team couldn't do the job during our battle with him..." Hau explained sheepishly.

That caught the Alola boy off guard, upon hearing that Hala had defeated Hau during Hau's first Grand Trial. Then again, to the Alola boy, it was expected since the Kahuna's grandson was still not that experienced in battling, especially against the Melemele kahuna.

"I'm guessing this is the reason why? So you can find a new Pokémon to join your team? I guess it makes sense since you only have Pichu and Eevee by your side..." Kaito spoke before he pushed aside a branch.

"Mm hm! And then when I get that Pokémon, I'll train real hard so that I can surpass the Melemele Grand Trial, so that I can catch up with you guys!" Hau explained as he pushed aside another branch.

The thought of Hau becoming a formidable rival did cross Kaito's mind. But for the Kahuna's grandson to be so excited upon wanting to be the Alola boy's equal... that kinda caught him off guard.

"So, what kind of Pokémon are you trying to find, then?" Kaito asked, causing Hau to think before a thought came to his mind as he made a response.

"I was thinking maybe a Flying Type, since they would have the advantage against a Fighting Type Pokémon like what Tutu has...!" Hau explained, causing the Alola boy to understand the advantage that a Flying Type would have.

"Good to know..." Kaito stated as the two continued on. Then...

"Trum! Trumbeak!"

Both boys and Buizel were alert to a cry as they turned to see a familiar Flying Type Pokémon flying across the trees!

"Check it out! A Trumbeak!" Hau exclaimed as he took out a Pokéball.

"Hey, Trumbeak! Let's have a battle!" Hau declared, catching Trumbeak's attention before it glared down at the Kahuna's grandson. Upon making eye contact, Hau got ready as Buizel and Kaito both took some steps back to make some room for the wild battle.

"Pichu, let's go!" Hau called out, as he sent Pichu out to face the evolved Flying Type!

"Pichu!" Pichu cried as his cheeks sparked a little to show his little determination.

"Let's make this nice and swift! Pichu, use Thunder Shock!" Hau called out. The little Electric Type did so, unleashing a little Electric Type attack! Trumbeak narrowed its eyes and flew out of the way to dodge the attack!

Then, as it flew up high, it shot Bullet Seed onto Pichu! The little Mouse Pokémon squealed at taking the multiple little hits as the Kahuna's grandson frowned a little before attempting to counter back.

"Don't let that get to you, Pichu! Pay it back with another Thunder Shock!" Hau called out.

Another Thunder Shock was launched as it made the hit this time! The evolved Flying Type screeched in pain before shaking its head to recover from the shock! Then, it began to dive down, shooting more Bullet Seed attacks!

"Dodge it, Pichu! Then use Shock Wave!" Hau called out.

Pichu did so, shooting a more powerful Electric attack! The attack zapped Trumbeak, causing it to screech in pain again before it tried to recover from the shock. Upon seeing that however, Hau wasn't about to let it do so that easily.

"Let's wrap this up, Pichu! Thunder Shock one more time!" Hau called out, as Pichu did so! And it hit. The Thunder Shock did its work, sending Trumbeak tumbling down before it fell hard. As soon as it landed, it groaned in defeat, having the swirls in its eyes.

"Alright! Nice work, Pichu!"

"Pichu!" Hau exclaimed, while Pichu cheered for the victory. But while they were cheering, Trumbeak slowly began to awaken from its fallen state as Kaito noticed this before he called to his friend.

"Hau! Cheer later! Get the Pokéball!" Kaito called out, causing Hau to blink before he watched Trumbeak recovering and getting up!

"Ah! Oh... Pokéball, Pokéball-" Hau gasped as he searched for a Pokéball in his backpack. But by the time he got one out, Trumbeak was already flying away!

"Ah! No! Pokéball, go!" Hau yelled as he threw the Pokéball as hard as he could. But despite his good throw, the ball missed Trumbeak by an inch, allowing the evolved Flying Type to make its escape!

"Oh no..." Hau groaned as both he and Pichu slumped down, both realizing that they lost their chance to make a new friend and a new team member...

Sweat dropping upon their despair, the Alola boy scratched the back of his head, sighing. Buizel on the other hand, gave a pitiful look at the little Electric Type for having a victory that escaped from his grasp.

Later...

The other attempts to catch a Flying Type didn't go much better. For once, Hau and Pichu tried to take down a Pikipek, only for it to fly away in fear that it might get badly hurt by the two.

Another attempt was when Hau challenged a wild Fearow to a battle. Of course, that ended up only irritating the Fearow and causing it to chase both Kaito and the Kahuna's grandson himself!

And finally, the attempt to catch a Wingull was out of the picture when the boys discovered that the Wingull was flying around to find food for the young. With that being seen, the two decided to abandon catching the Water-Flying Type.

It's been two hours ever since the Kahuna's grandson continued to fail capturing the Pokémon that he wanted to catch so he could challenge Hala to a Grand Trial.

"Nothing good has happened so far... I mean, I couldn't catch even one Flying Type Pokémon in the forest..." Hau groaned, as he fell on his butt, pouting for the continuous failures that has happened so far.

"Guess today is just not your lucky day... You know how the world can be if we try to get too much hopes up of wanting to accomplish a task." Kaito reminded, causing Hau to sigh, realizing the Alola boy's point.

"Good point..." groaned the Kahuna's grandson, earning a frown from the Alola boy. But before he could say anything, Buizel perked up, as if he was hearing something from not too far.

"Bu?"

"What is it, Bui?" Kaito questioned, curious as to what his Sea Weasel Pokémon was sensing.

The Water Type didn't respond but followed on whatever sound he was hearing. The two boys looked at each other while Pichu cocked his head curiously before the three followed after the Sea Weasel Pokémon.

It wasn't long before the boys began to hear the sounds that Buizel heard first...

"Huh? What's that sound?" Hau questioned, confused on what he was hearing.

"Sounds like footsteps..." Kaito stated as the boys continued to walk with their Pokémon friends around. As they started to get closer and closer to the sound, they approached to a clearing where there was...

A familiar Pokémon bashing its head to a thick tree, sounding rather irritated with whatever issue it had. But as Kaito noticed closer, he widened his eyes to see the familiar mask that was on the familiar Pokémon.

"That Pokémon...!" Kaito gasped, causing Hau to look at him.

"You know what that Pokémon is, Kai?" Hau asked, causing the Alola boy to explain.

"Y-Yeah... It was the Pokémon that this guy, Tokio, had... That Pokémon... It's Type: Null...!" Kaito exclaimed, much to the Kahuna's grandson's surprise as he looked back to the masked Pokémon.

"That's the same one that guy had...?" Hau questioned in disbelief, while Pichu gazed at the masked Pokémon in both awe and surprise. Buizel on the other hand, just frowned bitterly at the sight of the masked Pokémon.

Seeing that Pokémon made him recall of the near loss he and Kaito had against the Synthetic Pokémon when he and Kai were challenged to a battle by Tokio, until Tokio was forced to forfeit after getting a call from someone.

"Yeah..." was all the Alola boy could say before he bit his lips. But questions flooded to him in his mind. Why was that kind of Pokémon all alone? Was Tokio near, perhaps? Or was it maybe a wild Pokémon?

"A wild Pokémon...? No, that couldn't be... From the looks of it, it seems to be a Pokémon that was created so that it can battle many strong opponents. And by the looks of it, this one seems to be training by itself..." Kaito thought until...

"Rrrr...?" The Synthetic Pokémon glanced to see the boys staring at it, before it growled at the two with a muffled tone, causing both boys to sweat drop, along with Pichu and Buizel!

"It spotted us!" Hau yelped as Type: Null gave a muffled roar before it began to make chase, causing both boys to yell in surprise before they began to run off with the artificial Normal Type chasing after them!

"Why is it chasing us!?" Hau yelped as he continued running ahead with Kaito following along.

"I don't know... Maybe it wanted to scare us away from its training ground!? Whatever the reason is, it's real mad!" Kaito yelled as he began to pick up the pace. Buizel and Pichu quickly followed as the chase continued on, until...

"Look! There's a fork in the road up ahead! I'll head left!" Hau called out, before Kaito made his choice.

"Then I'll go right!" Kaito called out as he and Buizel headed to the path that led to the right. Hau and Pichu on the other hand ran to the left.

As for Type: Null, it took notice of the boys splitting up before it glared to where Kaito was running as it took the right path!

Upon seeing the Synthetic Pokémon giving chase of where he and Buizel were running to, the Alola boy widened his eyes in horror to see that the artificial Normal Type was gaining on both him and his Water Type partner!

"Hold on! What did I even do to you!? I only saw you a couple of minutes ago!" Kaito whined, trying to get Type: Null off of his back. Unfortunately for him, the Synthetic Pokémon took no notice of his words and continued the chase!

Upon seeing the Pokémon roaring in a muffled tone, the Alola boy continued to run faster through the forest with the Sea Weasel Pokémon by his side.

Meanwhile, where Hau is...

Hau stopped running upon seeing that Type: Null was no longer chasing him and Pichu, causing him to give several deep breaths to try and calm himself down from the big chase he had earlier with Pichu.

Even the little Electric Type was panting a little for the running he had to do with his Trainer.

"That was so close... What was that all about...?" Hau questioned while gasping for breath. But upon realizing that Type: Null was no longer chasing him, the Kahuna's grandson widened his eyes on the realization on who the Pokémon was chasing now.

"Wait... if it's not chasing us, then...! It's chasing after both Kai and Buizel!" Hau gasped, causing Pichu to widen his eyes upon realizing that it was true.

"We've got to go back and help them!" Hau declared, causing Pichu to give a cry of agreement. But before the two could head to where two of their friends could be at, there was a chirp that caught their attention.

"Row! Row!"

"Huh?" The Kahuna's grandson turned to see a familiar owl-like Pokémon flying above them, looking like it was enjoying its time flying across the quiet and peaceful forest on its own.

"That's... a Rowlet!" Hau pointed out, causing Pichu to turn to the Grass-Flying Type in surprise.

"Pi? Pichu Pi?" Pichu questioned in surprise as the Kahuna's grandson smiled, realizing what this meant.

"Hey... Rowlet is a Flying Type, so... maybe it could help us have a chance against Tutu during the Grand Trial!" Hau wondered, causing Pichu to give a cry of agreement, looking happy to have a found a possible friend.

That was until Hau remembered about the situation Kaito could be in right now.

"But Kai..." Hau started, remembering the trouble the Alola boy could be in, until he took a deep breath, having hope for his good friend.

"Please be alright..." Hau whispered before he turned back to his Electric Type friend.

"Pichu, let's go. We can worry about Rowlet first, and then try to find Kai and Buizel!" Hau called out, causing Pichu to blink in surprise. But upon seeing the look on Hau's eyes, the Electric Type didn't make a cry against it as he nodded slowly in agreement.

With that agreed, the two started to make chase after Rowlet to try and battle it so they could make the Grass Quill Pokémon their new friend and teammate.

Back to Kaito...

The Alola boy was lying on the ground, panting in exhaustion from all the running he had to do with Buizel by his side. Even the Sea Weasel Pokémon felt fatigued from the energy he had spent during the chase.

Luckily for them, they were able to escape the angry Synthetic Pokémon from its sight. But now, with the chasing they were forced to partake in...

"Where are we...? I know we're still in the forest, but where exactly?" Kaito panted as he got back up, before dusting himself off.

"Bui..." Buizel frowned, as he wasn't sure on where they were, either. All the Sea Weasel Pokémon knew, was that they were away from Type: Null and that was it. There was no way of knowing on where they were exactly.

"I wonder if Hau and Pichu are okay. I mean, I guess they are, since Type: Null didn't chase them since it was so focused on chasing us..." Kaito spoke before he looked around, trying to find if anything looked familiar.

The Water Type did the same, as the two continued to look around. But no matter how hard they looked, it didn't seem to be good as everywhere were trees, bushes, and even more trees and bushes...

"We're lost... aren't we?" Kaito sighed, earning a sweat drop and a sheepish look from the Sea Weasel Pokémon.

"Bui..."

"I thought so..." Kaito groaned before he began to head to another direction in the forest, with the Sea Weasel Pokémon following him from behind.

While they were continuing on across the forest, they didn't notice the Synthetic Pokémon taking notice of them as it narrowed its eyes before making a muffled growl. While it was still feeling irritated, it was feeling rather fatigued from the running it had to do during the chase.

So without a sound, the masked Pokémon followed after the Alola boy and his Water Type partner silently to see where this was going to go.

As for the Alola boy and Buizel, the two continued their way across the forest only to arrive at a clearing.

"Hmm... You wanna take a break here, Bui?" Kaito asked, earning a nod from the Water Type as the two began to relax from the searching they did so far. Lying on the grass, the two looked up at the blue sky that had the clouds floating in the air.

As the two continued to look at the sky, the Alola boy remained silent, yet he had so many thoughts he wanted to try and solve in his mind, as those thoughts were questioning thoughts about himself and for what he is.

"Tails and fins... They match... like the little fish that I saw in my dream back when I received the Sea Gauntlet... Not to mention... the fact that the Water Types care for me... I've been thinking this over and over, but... I still don't know what to believe..." Kaito thought seriously.

Frowning, he recalled of the times he had spent with his father back when Kazuma was still around to take care of him, Shizuka, Shiho, and Seita...

"Dad..." Kaito thought before he sighed silently, before he closed his eyes.

Meanwhile...

Kazuma was taking a boat back to Melemele Island, as it would take him about a day or two to get there as the search he had done involving the Alolan Sea Kingdom has taken him quite far from his home...

Taking out a picture from his pants pocket, the foster father of Kaito looked at the picture he had taken of himself with Shizuka and the three kids back when the younger ones were toddlers and when Kaito was younger.

Recalling back to when Kaisuke had given him the offer to become one of them if Kaito were to become the Prince again, the foster father frowned, unsure of what to say or think.

"If Kaito does discover his true heritage, then what would that make me...? Would I still be considered a father after everything I've lied about to him...? Five years... It's been five years since this façade had to go on..." Kazuma thought before he put the picture away.

"Why couldn't life have been much easier...? But then again... maybe... this is for the best." Kazuma thought again as he recalled the past of when he had met the King of the Alolan Seas for the first time back when he was young.

Flashback

A young Kazuma was walking across the beach, whistling nonchalantly as he was enjoying his time spending his time at the place he liked to be in. As he was alone near the shores...

"Hm?" The young boy blinked, before stopping. Looking around, he used his ears to see if he was hearing something around him. There was the waves crashing onto the rocks and onto the shore...

There were Wingull flying in the air near the sea... And there were some Sandygast moving along together... But there was something else... like something was struggling with something...

"Ngh... No...! No...! Not like this...!"

"Huh?" Kazuma could only blink in surprise before he rushed over to where he was hearing the voice from. As he arrived to where it was coming from, he widened his eyes in shock on what he was seeing.

Up ahead, was a boy struggling with some sort of a fishing net that seemed to be rather strong, as the boy was trapped inside it. But as Kazuma looked closely, it wasn't just a normal boy... It was...

"A... merboy?" Kazuma gaped in surprise as he noticed that the merboy's lower half of the body had a sky-blue tail and fins. This merboy seemed to be quite young, probably around the same age as Kazuma himself...

"How did that happen...?" Kazuma asked himself as he started to approach the merboy. But upon seeing him coming, the little merboy widened his eyes and struggled more into the net he was trapped in!

"AH! A-A human! NO!" The merboy wailed as he struggled to get out of the fishing net, only for Kazuma to come closer. And the moment Kazuma arrived even closer, the merboy shut his eyes tight, bracing himself for whatever could come.

But as a minute passed, nothing happened as the merboy slowly opened his eyes to see... Kazuma looking down at him with a small smile on his face.

"Hey there..." Kazuma spoke softly, catching the merboy by surprise.

"H-Huh? You're... not going to hurt me?" The merboy asked, causing Kazuma to shake his head before he spoke.

"I wouldn't... I don't have a reason as to why I should hurt you. And besides, it doesn't feel right hurting someone that's trapped in a net..." Kazuma answered, causing the merboy to frown, before he began to slowly calm down.

"O-Oh..." The merboy didn't have much to say, as he was still wary of the human boy that was standing right in front of him.

"What's your name? And how did you get trapped in here?" Kazuma asked, causing the merboy to look up before he turned away with a timid look.

"I got careless and... got tangled up with a fishing net that was near the shores here... As for me, well... My name... is..." The merboy started to say, before he stopped, causing Kazuma to blink in curiosity.

"What is it?" Kazuma asked, causing the merboy to look back.

"Shouldn't you introduce yourself first if you're the one asking for my name...?" The merboy asked, causing the young boy to blink before he made a sheepish look and smile.

"Haha... That's true. My name is Kazuma! And you...?" Kazuma spoke before he asked, allowing the merboy to introduce himself back.

"My name... is Kaisuke... Prince of the Alolan Seas..." The merboy, now known as Kaisuke spoke, causing Kazuma to smile back.

"Nice to meet you, Kaisuke! I hope we can be friends together!" Kazuma exclaimed as the merboy could only blink in surprise while looking back in disbelief.

Flashback End

Closing his eyes before he opened them, the foster father of Kaito smiled at the memory, remembering the good times he had shared with the Sea King before the merman became the King of the Alolan Seas...

"I honestly wish we could go back to those times... There are still some things that I wanted to do before I was tasked to be a foster father..." Kazuma thought, his true feelings coming to his mind as he blinked, before seeing something far ahead.

"There it is... Melemele Island... I'm almost home..." Kazuma spoke to himself softly, before smiling, as he wondered on how the kids would react upon his return.

Back to Kaito...

A tick mark was comically appearing on the Alola boy's head as he was still looking around his surroundings in the forest with Buizel by his side. The Sea Weasel Pokémon sweat dropped, upon seeing how annoyed Kaito looked.

But to the Water Type, he couldn't blame the Alola boy for being annoyed as it was almost for an hour and they still haven't found a way out of the forest. Not only that, they still have yet to find Hau and Pichu.

For Kaito, he wanted to blow up, to let it all out. But he knew that he couldn't, for it might attract potential enemies or wild Pokémon that could possibly find both him and Buizel threats to their territory.

"It's been almost an hour and yet nothing good happened so far. Out of all the wild Pokémon that we could've encountered, why did it have to be Type: Null!?" Kaito thought, feeling more irritated than ever.

"Bui?" Buizel asked, causing Kaito to blink before looking down to see the concerned Water Type.

"It's okay, Bui... I just... need to try and forget my stress in all of this." Kaito assured, before he sighed. Just then, before he could think or say something else, there were rustling in the bushes that caught his attention.

The Sea Weasel Pokémon became cautious, preparing to fight for what's about to come out. Then, to the duo's shock and horror, out of the bushes came none other than...!

"Rrrr..." growled Type: Null, as it stared at both Kaito and Buizel with a muffled growl.

"Oh no..." Kaito groaned, as he got ready to fight Type: Null this time instead of running away. Buizel was prepared to do the same under Kaito's command. But when it looked as if Type: Null was going to attack them, it didn't... Not even as 15 seconds passed.

That caused the Alola boy to raise a brow as he was about to question the Synthetic Pokémon's decision of whether it wanted to fight or not. But before he could, the artificial Normal Type made a muffled groan before it fell on its right!

Widening his eyes in surprise, the Alola boy quickly walked over to it in surprise with the Water Type following.

"W-What happened...? That's... so out of the blue." Kaito commented as he knelt down to see what was going on with the masked Pokémon. Buizel sniffed, trying to sense if there were any wounds with the Synthetic Pokémon.

As for the Alola boy, he checked the Pokémon's condition by placing his hand on its neck... As he did, there was a small amount of heat that the Alola boy was able to feel, much to his surprise as he blinked.

"Type: Null... This guy caught a fever..." Kaito spoke in disbelief and shock. Looking at what seemed to be a mask, the Alola boy bit his lips.

"That mask... It's not going to be easy at all if I try to feed it... I mean, where is its mouth? Trapped inside the mask...!?" Kaito thought as desperation began to reach his mind, while Buizel frowned in concern.

With the troubling situation they were in, the Water Type and his human partner have found themselves another problem to solve if they want to make the Synthetic Pokémon feel better.

But with the mask covering its face tight and hard, how were they going to treat its fever when it looks like it can't even eat? And another problem, is that they didn't know whether Hau and Pichu were doing things okay on their side...

Little did they know was that the two were only trying to befriend a wild Rowlet that the two managed to find...

To be continued...

Kaito: Whoa, whoa! Easy there, big guy! Everything is going to be okay! We're only trying to help you, okay...!?

Hau: This Rowlet seems to be kinda carefree, yet tough at the same time... I wonder if it's just like me, in a way...?

Kaito: This mask... Type: Null doesn't seem to like it... Was it abused? I mean, it can't even open its mouth because the mask is covering its face...

Hau: Hey, Rowlet! Why not we have another battle? I'll keep battling you over and over until you agree to be my friend!

Kaito: So stubborn... and not to mention, prideful. Huh... So this Pokémon... I wonder what your true name is... Type: Null sounds too experimental.

Hau: Hehe... You're pretty good! That's why I have to catch you, so that you can be a friend and a teammate of mine!

Events that occurred:

- Kaito encounters the same Pokémon Tokio has: Type: Null

- Hau encounters a wild Rowlet
