I'm back. Because I love season 11 almost as much as season 3, I decided to put it into this story and change my intended course in order to have a bit more conflict and explore a few what-ifs. Don't worry, the quilt is still going to have a significant role going forward. Also, there are heavy Frozen references but I changed them up quite a bit. I own nothing in this story. This chapter also does jump rope with your sense of disbelief at the beginning but I needed a way for the chapter to happen and get the main survival issues out of the way.
Zane and Cole had been called to come back for a serpentine issue after several months of inactivity, the Oni had been dealt with, Cole and Zane left the twins in Lou's care during the whole SOG debacle and had been grateful to get away from the ninja after being stuck in the first realm with them. Now after months of peace they had to fight some serpentine lady with a vendetta against Wu. Lou was out of town and there were no baby sitters available so that forced Zane and Cole to take the twins with them. They were in the artillery room of the monastery facing off against Aspheera. Zane had the scroll, Cole had the twins, Aspheera aimed a blast at Wu, Zane rushed to protect Wu, Cole rushed to grab Zane. In an instant Zane, Cole, and the twins vanished. Cole was thankful he was carrying the diaper bag and the emergency supplies for them and the twins, they never left on missions without a month's supply of everything, clothes, food water, heat source, fire starting kit, diapers, baby wipes, blankets and pillows, a tent. They landed in the snow, Zane creating an Ice slide for Cole just in time. Seeing they were surrounded by snow, Cole quickly pulled a blanket out of the camping gear. He wrapped it around the twins and held the kids close to him to keep them warm.
"Where are we?" asked Cole
"I don't know but we need to find shelter and fast," said Zane
"On it!" said Cole, He hit the ground and made a large rock tent around them. Zane got out the heat light and the sleeping bags, extra blankets and pillows. The wind howled outside while Cole made sure the boys were warm.
"Once this storm dies down we need to find civilization and repair the mech," said Zane
"Hey look what I snagged from the Monastery!" said Cole as he took out the quilt
"They'll be mad you took that if they ever come look for us," said Zane
"We'll start a new life here, they only person who's going to miss us is my dad, and who cares about the mech, the guys back home rely on tech more than their abilities, it took me a while to realize it," said Cole
"I hope there is civilization nearby, I don't want the boys getting sick from being in the cold," said Zane worriedly
"Well, we are elemental masters, creating a place to live shouldn't be hard," said Cole as he cuddled Zane close to him
"I suppose," said Zane
"We have a chance at a fresh start, we are free here, just like that movie the boys like with the ice queen who made a castle out of her powers once she let them go," said Cole. Zane suddenly had an idea.
"I am the elemental master of ice, it is required to obey my command, Cole we are letting go of Ninjago and never going back," said Zane, determination in his eyes, that Cole hadn't seen in over a year. The wind outside ceased and the snow had stopped as well. Cole packed up the stuff and grabbed the twins who snuggled close to him, and he followed Zane up the mountain. They reached a crevice and Zane sent a blast of ice at it, causing a crude-looking staircase for form. Cole smirked, he knew what Zane was doing.
"Daddy Elza!" Cheered the twins. Cole added rock to stabilize the staircase. They reached the other side of the crevice and Zane started blasting the found with ice, creating walls and floors and staircases, balconies. He posted guards made of living ice outside the new palace. Cole added rock pillars and decoration inside as well as stone furniture. Zane started forming a dragon shape with ice, Cole added stone scales and back eyes, both elementals pushed some of their power into the dragon causing it to come to life. It flew out the main balcony and perched on top of the tallest tower. Cole added fortification around the structure, it wasn't the most elegant castle, only just barely resembling the ice castle it was based on. It had spires of ice and stone, but the interior was far more luxurious, Cole had never used his element creatively before, not having any need to experiment with having the stone carve itself or form decorative pillars of a single type of stone before but he saw Zane having fun and decided to join in.
"You gonna change your clothes and hair too?" Joked Cole.
"No, our powers aren't magic-based, that's the reason this place is so crude, I can tell the ice what to do but can't make it go against its nature, notice how everything is hexagonal, natural formation of ice, you have a bit more liberty with yours because of how many different varieties of earth there are and each has its own properties," said Zane. Cole gave a moment of thought.
"Make ice form around your shoes and turn them into boots. Then do the same with your gloves and shirt, you might not be able to make robes of ice, but armor is probably possible," said Cole. Zane was skeptical but had learned to trust Cole's creative intuition, so he tried it. Within moments Zane was covered in a set of ice armor.
" It worked!" Exclaimed Zane.
"Great, now let me try," said Cole. His boots became solid obsidian, his shirt was layered with mica flakes that flowed into a cape, his pants were made of hematite, magnetized to stay together. The twins paid close attention to their parents, fascinated by the pretty rocks and shiny ice sculptures. The next morning Cole went to the palace they could see in the distance and make an agreement. In exchange for Zane and Cole protecting the realm and controlling the frequent blizzards that often plagued the realm, the people of the Never realm would allow Zane and Cole to retrieve goods from the various villages such as food and clothing and other resources required for teaching the twins how to be protectors and elemental masters. The people of the realm would only refer to Zane and Cole as the Elemental Emperors. Cole came back smiling which Zane took as a good sign.
"Grimfax was more than willing to exchange common goods for the protection of the realm, once I told him that we did not intend to take his kingdom from him, only ruling over the elements we control," said Cole
"Good, I hung the quilt in the library, we can fill it with books later but the quilt will be excellent at teaching the boys about Ninjago and the elements," said Zane
"Brilliant, I also learned there is a travelers tree guarded by yetties on the next mountain, but since we don't want to go home and face the others it's just good to know," said Cole
"Do you think the boys have powers?" asked Zane
"Well there's three different ones they could have and considering there are no other elemental masters in this realm it's possible that they might develop them early in order to maintain the balance in this realm, considering we just introduced elemental control upon this realm," said Cole
"What if one of them has two powers?" asked Zane
"Then we train them like we trained Lloyd, using our own knowledge to help them figure out their own elements," said Cole.
"Does the King want us to supply extra troops to his army? Considering that we seem to be capable of creating constructs with a hive mind, disposable guards would be an asset to him," said Zane
"I asked him about it and showed him what we were capable of giving him but he said that he didn't need them at this time but if war broke out he'd take us up on our offer, we're lucky he's such a reasonable guy," said Cole sitting on the throne next to Zane.
"I assume he's going to send messengers to whatever villages are in the area," said Zane
"The only villages in this realm are the village of the formlings and the people of the great lake," said Cole
"Formlings?" asked Zane
"He said they are people who can turn into animals at will, on my way back I was actually thinking about going to them with an offer to train a few of them to be ninja," said Cole
"Let's just get settled and we can think about it once the boys begin their own training," said Zane
"Good idea, time adjust to a life without serpents or Garmadon or any other BBEG," said Cole
"BBEG?" asked Zane
"Big bad evil guy," said Cole. Zane chuckled
"Yeah, though hopefully, this realm doesn't have any," said Zane
"Also I broke the scroll, we don't need the temptation or the boys getting their hands on it," said Cole
"You think of everything," smiled Zane leaning over to kiss Cole.
