And now, the chapter you have all been waiting for...
Back in Ninjago, Lloyd was freaking out. His powers were on the fritz and not even Wu could figure out why. Sometimes they worked, sometimes they didn't and more often than not they were very weak, like they had been when he was a kid.
"Could it be a result of Aspheera killing Zane, Cole and the twins?" asked Kai
"We only lost our powers when lloyd got possessed, I don't think it works the other way around," said Jay
"But losing two of our generation and two of the next generation might have something to do with it," said Kai
"Jay, Nya, aren't you two at least a bit sad about the twins?" asked Lloyd
"Maybe a little but I never got the chance to get attached to them before giving them to Zane. I'm not cut out to be a mother and Jay is just too much of a kid himself to be a decent father," said Nya with a shrug of indifference.
"Sensei went to speak to Aspheera, I mean it's only been what? A week?" said Kai
"Guys, we have a bigger problem, they took the quilt," said Jay
"Great, all that hard work turned to ash," said Kai
"Perhaps Not," said Wu as he came back into the room
"What?" asked Nya
"They are alive, Aspheera said she banished them to the Never Realm," said Wu
"Great! Let's get our freaking quilt back," said Kai
Wu frowned.
"And what about your brothers and the twins?" asked Wu
"What about them?" asked Lloyd
It was thoroughly pissed off Wu who had intended to go to the Never realm alone to retrieve his lost students but it seemed the ones he still had needed to learn the value of life. He would send them to find their missing brothers and the children.
…
The wedding of Alice and Andrew was a realm wide event. Grimfax practically skipped as he walked his daughter down the aisle to the master of Fire and Lightning. Zane and Cole were in the front row, watching their son get married. Noah and Akita had gotten married the year before and had started a new quilt of their own adventures, battling the rouge formlings of the far north, the undead dragons of the southern glacier, and shadow demons of the mountain cyclones. Each battle was documented on this new quilt that hung in the library beside the old one and was added to each time they returned from a mission. They both wore pale green gi's with emblems of wolves with three tails and dragon wings, a dagger in its mouth and running across water. At the age of 27 they had developed a new fighting style that relied on both of them, the style of the green paw was very effective against opponents. Andrew had increased the royal military and was the royal advisor to King Grimfax and was preparing to take the throne once Grimfax stepped down. Zane and Cole couldn't be prouder of their boys and had decided to retire from being Ninja, they were very happy to stay in their palace and let things unfold. After 30 years in the Never Realm, they had all but forgotten Ninjago, the place of their origin was now just a distant memory etched in the fading colors of the original quilt. It was later that night when both aged Ninja were laying in their bed, Zane's hand running mindlessly through Cole's graying hair, that they started to wonder what happened in Ninjago.
"Do you think they miss us?" asked Zane
"I doubt it, but I don't really care, they were jerks and we've found our place here, even if they do come for us, I'm not going back," said Cole
"What about your father?" asked Zane
"He'll understand, even when my mom was alive, he put his quartet above his family, he'll get over it," said Cole
"I doubt that," said Zane
"It's been 30 years, he might not even be alive anymore," said Cole after a few moments.
Zane pulled his husband close.
"I sometimes worry about the future," Zane admitted, snuggling close to Cole.
"How so?" asked Cole, wrapping his arm around his husband.
"You're human, the boys are human, Akita and Alice are human, but I'm not. I guess I just worried about being alone before the end of this century," said Zane.
"You won't be, even if it takes the rest of my life I will find a way to take you with me, I refuse to spend one moment of this life or the next without you," said Cole.
Zane smiled, closing his eyes and using Cole's chest as a pillow. Suddenly the door slammed open and both of them sat up, seeing Noah standing there panting like he'd run there.
"The fishermen of the great lake saw a flash in the sky and some large thing fall out of it," panted Noah.
Zane and Cole looked at eachother and jumped out of bed, putting on their royal robes and heading to their thrones.
"You and Andrew go to the Village of the great lake and see if our suspicions are correct, if they are, do whatever you can to convince them to leave without us, if you get into a fight, kick their asses, especially Lloyd's," said Zane
"Yes father," said Noah, pulling on his hood and leaving to confront the strangers from Ninjago.
…
The ninja entered the large building with the hearth fire as they followed a woman named Sorla.
"Please wait here, I'm sure the heroes of our realm will be here to meet you shortly," said Sorla
"The quicker we find Zane and Cole the quicker we can get the quilt back and head home," said Lloyd.
"If we don't go back with Zane and Cole, Sensei will flay us alive," said Kai
"Then we lie and say they were dead," said Lloyd
"Ya know, I never understood why we suddenly hated Zane," said Nya
"All his robot mannerisms got on my nerves," said Lloyd
"So you're willing to risk sensei's wrath just because Zane annoyed you?" asked Nya
"I'm the green Ninja, it's not like I need him," said Lloyd
Then, Noah and Andrew entered.
"Look who finally showed up," said Andrew
"Who are you?" asked Kai
"The Ninja of the Never Realm," said Noah
"Why are you wearing green? I'm the green Ninja," said Lloyd
"Destiny decided it needed a new green ninja for the new generation, now how about you all go back to where you came from," said Noah, his blue eyes staring daggers at Lloyd.
"Ok, Ok, there's no need to fight, let's start with introductions," said Jay, trying to diffuse the tension.
"We know who you all are, Kai Master of Fire, Jay Mouth of Lightning, Nya, Master of Water, and Lloyd the old green Ninja," said Noah cooly
"How do you know who we are?" asked Nya
"Why, Mother I thought you were supposed to be intelligent," said Andrew, his voice dripping with sarcasm.
The air was now crackling with electricity as the suppressed feelings of hurt and abandonment the boys had felt after learning what their parents did, coupled with the anger of how their real parents were treated by this group, surfaced.
"Andrew, this building is made of wood," warned Noah as the hearth fire grew taller and the sparks in Andrew's hands grew in intensity.
"Nothing you can't put out in a second Noah," said Andrew through gritted teeth
"True but I'd rather not have to explain to the villagers why there is a hole in the roof," said Noah. resting his hand on his brother's shoulder.
"Ok, lets just calm down and talk this over," said Jay
"Get out of our realm," growled Andrew
"Not without the quilt Zane and Cole stole," Lloyd growled back.
That did it. Before Lloyd could so much as move his hand, he felt a fist collide with his nose.
