~Chapter 1~

Anna

I had always been able to roll with the curves that life would throw my way. It was a skill that I thought was unique to me. Growing up behind all the closed doors and Elsa shutting me out was the norm. Marcus helped keep me sane during that time. Then after discovering the past history between Arendelle, Kalde, and Northuldra, it was tough. We righted a wrong. The decision to destroy the dam was difficult, but necessary. The waters flooded Arendelle and my home washed away, but from that destruction, Arendelle made a new home within the old ruins of Kalde. It was four months ago…

Everything happened so fast, Marcus and I grabbed Elsa trying to snap her out of her freakish personality metamorphosis. Though the next thing I knew, Marcus fell unconscious and Elsa woke with no memories. Once I gave her the brief bullet point information of who I was, she seemed to trust me. Though that wasn't the main problem. Her fear returned just like that and her powers terrorized her. It was a critical blow, but this time, I swore things would be different. I wouldn't be shut out like last time. I would do everything within my power to restore Elsa's memories and help rebuild Arendelle.

Elsa helped me tow Marcus's unconscious body out of Athohallan and back to the mainland. Nervously she followed my lead as we regrouped with Kristoff and the others. I sought council with Grand Pabbie by myself because Elsa grew nervous of all the unfamiliar faces. It was a bit much for her. Pabbie looked over Marcus nervously waving his hands above his body. I was glad to see Marcus still breathing, but he just wouldn't wake up.

"There is strange magic at work here." Pabbie told me.

"Strange, how?"

"You said Marcus and Elsa collided and Marcus emitted an energy?"

"That's right." I nodded.

"I can't tell exactly what transpired, but one thing I know for sure is that Elsa's memories are linked to Marcus's consciousness."

"So you're saying once he wakes up, Elsa will be back to herself again?"

"That's correct, but I'm concerned about one thing..." His voice trailed off.

"Don't leave me hanging here, please continue." I urged.

Pabbie pressed his hands to Marcus's forehead and closed his eyes focusing.

"When those of strong elemental abilities collided, it told nature to restore balance by unleashing the Charm of Shattered Memories."

"That doesn't sound good." I muttered.

"Time is not on your side. The longer Marcus is in this state, the more likely memories of him will start to fade even from those who love him most. If Elsa can't restore her lost memories, Marcus will never wake and he'll be lost forever."

"How long do we have, Pabbie? I mean, Arendelle needs rebuilt and I gotta reconnect with my sister, get her to remember, and plan a wedding once Elsa is back to her normal self. How can this be done?"

"Just focus on helping Elsa remember, that's the priority."

As I parted ways from Pabbie, I told Kristoff what was going on. My sister looked on nearby watching us timidly tucking her hands in her pockets. I knew the look she gave when she was about to expend some magical energy. Elsa was queen, but she couldn't rule like this and I wouldn't want to add to her plate of the immense pressure of controlling her powers while ruling a kingdom. So I had Mattias draft a document that Elsa and I would sign. It would be easy to convince her to sign over authority of Arendelle to me. Marcus was an unconscious king and Elsa had no memories, this was the best alternative I could think of for Arendelle. I just hoped it was the right thing.

Four months ago, I had to do what was best for Arendelle and that was taking on a new role. My sister wasn't herself and Marcus was in a coma. The people of Arendelle looked to me to make a decision. I kept to myself for a day to think about the next steps for my home. The pressure was on and I didn't want to make the wrong decision. Kristoff was patient with me allowing me space, but there really wasn't time. Families were waiting to replant roots down somewhere. I often went over to talk to Marcus by myself who was just unconscious on a stretcher.

"Marcus, I really wish you were awake." I muttered, taking his cold hand in mine, "I know you would support me as much as my sister would."

I exhaled a heavy breath as I gently released his hand. Everyone watched as I approached a large rock and hopped on the top of it.

"We're moving to the Kalde ruins and that will be Arendelle's new home. Let's go." I said triumphantly.

Everyone seemed concerned, but inevitably followed my instruction. Kristoff walked up to me with Sven and Olaf bringing up the rear.

"You sure about Kalde?" He asked, "We could always rebuild above where Arendelle flooded. There are other places on this fjord."

"I know that, but I honestly think Arendelle needs a fresh start right now." I shrugged.

"I understand."

"Can you lead the way on Sven?" I asked him trying to keep my nerves about the situation inside. Kristoff smiled warmly pulling me close.

"You can count on me, Anna."

Reuben and his men helped pick up Marcus on the stretcher and followed Kristoff along with the Arendelle citizens. I would follow behind with Elsa who was probably more scared than I had even known her to be. Visibly shaken clutching her braided hair biting her lower lip trying to stay calm. I had never seen this side of her before that I'm sure was always hidden behind a closed door. Though one thing I would never do to her is give her gloves. I knew I could break her free of her fear, in time.
