In the cabin's stunned silence, Callera moves to sit back on the lower bunk, still shaking from the emotional onslaught of memories. "This," waving her hand to encompass the room and ship, "all this, is one link in a chain that ends the Republic."
"How can one dispute with the Trade Federation end the Republic and the Jedi?" Obi Wan's skeptism plain.
"I don't know the full details, mostly just the basics; but both sides are being played in a grand scheme to kill the Jedi and the Republic."
Qui-Gon's voice measured and even. "By who?"
"The Sith." Callera's certainty chilling the room.
"The Sith have been dead for a thousand years!" Obi Wan's voice indignant.
"Dead, no. Only hidden, walking and hiding in plain sight. They have day jobs now, and one of them has been hiding right under your nose." Icy blue eyes meeting Qui-Gon's brown. "Manipulations from the dark; the right words here, an assassination there, each act with one goal in mind. The destruction of the Jedi."
"And who is this supposed Sith?" Qui-Gon's curiosity warring with disbelief.
"Always two there are; but the master manipulator, the one in plain sight," Callera looks down briefly and then looks at the two Jedi together, "Who as an individual has the most to gain, no matter which side wins?"
Both Jedi look pensive at her words. "If things are like my timeline, the current Supreme Chancellor is as powerless as a newborn nerf. Which means any attempt at official Republic help can be sidelined with a motion. The Trade Federation occupies Naboo and creates a sympathy vote to replace the Chancellor, or if Naboo wins without Republic help…"
"It shows the current leadership is powerless and while not as big of a boost as the occupation, it gives the representative of Naboo just a little more political capital. Which can help them towards the Chancellorship as well." Qui-Gon finishes the thought. "I have met with and dealt with Sheev Palpatine and while he can act like a politician, he has been forthright with me in ways most aren't."
"Every ship has a blindspot Master Qui-Gon, where best to hollow out support for the Jedi, than slowly in the Senate. A rider here or a tax there can send ripples through Republic that might not be felt for years."
"The Increased taxes that drove the Federation to do this blockade."
"In Theory."
Obi Wan words attempt to poke holes in her claims. "You'd think the Council would have felt him by now if he was this dangerous Sith Lord."
"Not if he can hide himself in the Force, its not a common or rare power, but fairly simple. I know a few people who learned how to mask their presence in the Force well enough to not appear to be Force sensitive. Add in that as you said the Jedi think the Sith are dead, one doesn't go looking for something you don't think exists." Getting ready to speak another bombshell Callera, sighs tiredly. "And if your temple is like mine; it's been built on a powerful vergence in the Force that's been tainted and twisted. And that has been helping mask the Sith unintentionally."
"Why would the Jedi do that?!" Obi Wan's eyebrows looking like they'd touch his hair at any moment.
"They wanted to keep it out of the hands of any who would misuse it. And they hoped the presence of the order would slowly purify it. All it did was taint their visions of the future."
"How do you know about the vergence?" Qui-Gon reentering the conversation.
"After the Yuuzhan Vong, those noseless warriors you saw, conquered Courscant. They leveled swaths of the city planet to terraform it into their 'paradise.' Two Masters and one Knight, snuck back onto Courscant to see what was happening on the surface. During their time on the planet, someone strong in the Darkside, found the wound and tapped into it. He destroyed at least two corvette sized ships, just by hurling debris while he was drawing from that vergence according to the reports before enough firepower to level a Courscanti block finally killed him."
"Do you know of any hard evidence that back up your claim?"
"I do not Master Qui-Gon, he's too good at covering his steps. It was only near the end did evidence start to show; at first to tantalize and torment those investigating him, and then distract from his own plans coming to fruition. When knowledge of his identity no longer mattered, when he had already won. But he is not the immediate threat."
"His apprentice."
"Correct. His attack dog might be a better description, Darth Maul. Trained as weapon to be the first strike, to reveal to the Jedi Order that the Sith still live, and then slowly drive up your paranoia when you can not find either Maul's master or Maul's apprentice in the aftermath."
"You think he'll come to Tatooine?"
"If it follows my timeline, he'll try and stop us from leaving."
"He doesn't succeed?"
"He matches Qui-Gon blow for blow to a draw as the ship starts to leave, and forces a draw."
"How do you know this?"
Callera points at Obi Wan, "He wrote a journal in my timeline. When the Jedi Order fell, Obi Wan went into seclusion to hide from the hunters and prepare for the next generation to be ready."
Obi Wan's jaw drops, "Me?!"
Callera nods, "In my timeline you were on the Jedi Council in the years before the Fall, a respected Master, and a proven General in war. Your counsel was much sought after by many."
"What about Qui-Gon? Surely he's on the council before me!"
"If things play out like my timeline, he doesn't get the chance."
The energy in the room drops with that declaration.
"I am assuming then, that my demise would come to pass soon?"
"Yes Master Qui-Gon. You and Obi Wan face Maul on Naboo. He manages to isolate you, wear you down, and kill you. Obi Wan in turn, puts a stop to him."
"That's if, things play out that way."
"Which by knowing it could happen…"Callera lets the word dangle.
"Means it might not happen."
"What else should we know about Tatooine, if things come to pass as you know them?"
"We will meet a boy, and that boy will have the power to reshape the galaxy."
