Chapter 11 'At The Movies"
"The movies?" Lewis checked his ears if he misheard Eve's offer. Eve's mind had been always focused on her mission and was pretty serious for most of the years he had known her. Eve could also be very entertaining since she inherited her mother's singing voice and could be pretty hilarious when she wanted to be. And despite their limited time in 2012, she had asked him to go to the movies with her, "Um, why?"
"I think we should take a break and just enjoy what this time has to offer. I mean, for the rest of the time we're going to find Ryder, " she replied with a smile that Lewis had only seen on rare occasions, "I heard that the furthest dimension the movie could go is 3."
"Three dimensions," he scoffed at the idea. Apparently 5th dimension hadn't been invented yet. He remembered the last movie he saw and still had the laser burns from Men in Black VIII. He was more of a book reader but if seeing a movie could get him to spend some time with Eve, then, "Sure, I'll go."
"I guess it's a date then," She disappeared into the tent, leaving Lewis to silently celebrate. It was a date! However, Eve only said that as an expression, not thinking about what Lewis would think it meant.
Lewis calmed himself down and realized he didn't know the first thing about going on a date. The possibility of being erased from time was far from his mind at the moment. He knew who he could turn to for help at a time like this.
"Mike!" Emily beckoned over the Green Ranger, driving him away from whacking the dummy. He wiped off some sweat on his forehead before coming towards her. Emily received Lewis' message about needing advice to go on his first date. My baby is going on his first date! was her first reaction but then quickly ran over ways to put Lewis at ease. There was only one way to quell Lewis' fears and inhibitions, Emily learned.
She was going to the movies too but to make it seem more natural, she needed someone there with her. Her first choice was of course Mike. Mike hadn't spoken to her for days and it was refreshing to be able to talk to him again. Although, she didn't know why Mike was giving her the cold shoulder lately. Maybe a movie would change all that.
"Hey,"
"Hey," Emily started, "Do you want to see a movie tonight?"
Mike crossed his arms, "I don't know, why aren't you asking Jayden to go with you?" Now she understood. Mike was jealous, practically green with envy. Emily decided to take the chance and tell him.
"Now, why would I ask Jayden when I'd rather go on a date with you?" The word date seemed to get a reaction out of him. He leaned on his training staff and ended up falling flat on his face. She helped him up and they just stared at each other. They were, as people put it, lost in each other's eyes.
Emily felt something, something struck a chord inside her, and only thought these kind of things happened in the chick flicks she had watched with Serena. She couldn't believe what had been happening lately with Lewis, the Future Rangers, it was almost overwhelming. But for that moment with Mike, it was a moment of peaceful bliss and being a mom was the last thing on her mind. Her heart pounded when Mike began to lean towards her. She ignored her nerves and found herself leaning forward too. Only a few centimeters but then...
"Do you guys have any food- oh, sorry. My bad," Kevin just had to pass the indoor dojo on the way to the kitchen. Mike glared at Kevin, and Emily watched as her almost first kiss, Mike, began a hot pursuit of the Blue Ranger, holding his staff high in the air as he chased his friend around the Shiba House.
He stopped at the living room, whipped around, and properly answered Emily's offer, "I would love to," Then Mike rushed into the hallway screaming threats to Kevin who sure had a head start.
Emily sighed and watched how the boys took the roughhousing outside. She heard the noise finally dying down before heading to the kitchen.
Jayden rode all the way home on Ji's motorcycle. This time, he didn't care for the speed limit or the fact he might have heard a police siren on the way. He thought if he got to the Shiba House sooner, he would not back out of asking Mia to the movies.
He weaved through the turns curving through the forest and soon found a path that cut time through the metropolitan area of Panorama. Jayden arrived at the Shiba House gates in half the time it took for him to get home on any other day.
When he skidded to a stop in front of the house, he saw Mike chasing Kevin on the front yard while Ji tended to the garden. They all stopped to stare at Jayden. It was not because he was early. They sensed Jayden had a task at hand but seemed different from tasks he was set to complete before. Maybe it was how he took off his helmet, his eyes set on the door, the way he dismounted the motorcycle and tossed the keys to Ji as if he was James Bond, or was it the way he nodded to his fellow teammates as he grazed past nonchalantly, trying to mask the fear that couldn't come from charging into a battle...but from something a lot worse.
Jayden walked into the Shiba House, searching for Mia. He called her name, checked every possible place. But in the end, he found her in her room. She was on the keyboard when he knocked on the door.
"Hey," was all he could say.
"Hey Jayden," Mia greeted, surprised that Jayden had come home earlier than usual, "Did you need something?"
"Um...yes!" Inwardly frowning at how loud he said that last part, he closed the door behind him and walked over to Mia, "So, you know how Ji lets us have Friday nights off?"
"Yeah...ever since I arrived. Are you okay, Jayden?"
"I'm fine. But it's you I'm worried about,"
"Why?"
Jayden slid his hands into his pockets nervously, "I am worried that you'll be stuck here on a Saturday night with nothing to do,"
Mia cocked her head to one side and smiled, she was catching on, "Oh really? Then if bothers you so much, then you could always do something about it..."
"Well, there's that new movie playing at the Cinemas. Maybe we can go and watch it?"
"So what time we should all be there?"
"We? All?" Jayden was confused for a moment. Did he say the wrong thing?
"We as in the team. Or you want just us to go?" Jayden smiled. Mia was acting a bit clueless. She was playing games with him, to see if he could come out and just ask her. Jayden felt like a wuss for not spitting out the right words.
"The latter would best suit. And I was thinking this could be a...uh...um...?" Why couldn't he carry own a sentence?
"A date?" Mia couldn't be any more frustrated or amused at Jayden's nervousness.
"Yeah, a date," Jayden barely choked it out, "So?"
Mia concealed her inner emotions. She felt like squealing because she was so happy. But all she did was grin and said, "Sure thing. What time?"
"About 8:30?"
"Ok. See you then,"
Jayden hurried back to the door, "Bye."
"Bye,"
Yes, mission accomplished! Happiness surged through his entire body. There was never a time in his life he felt so glad that he could just...dance? Strange as it sounded in his head, he had the strange urge to.
Jayden would have never done anything like this before, asking a girl out. Worried, he thought he could blow this chance. He never had these worries or emotions before, but ever since Mia and the team came into his life, it just opened a new side to Jayden, one where he didn't have to be a guy isolated from the rest of the world. He was beginning to see how his friends had affected him. His life had gotten so much better since the team was first formed.
He opened the door to leave the room and then in toppled Mike and Kevin, who must have been eavesdropping on the conversation. He quickly swept them into the hallway and gave Mia a nervous laugh as he did so. After he closed the door, Mike and Kevin whooped.
"You did it, man!" Mike clapped him on the back, "For a second there, I thought you were going to choke. And guess what? I'm going out with Emily tonight too! Mind if we tag along?"
Jayden's eyes widened, "Really? Yeah...you're welcome to," He said despite Eve's advice for being in a non-teammate environment. But Emily and Mike needed somewhere to go, maybe they'll part after the movie. Besides, it was about time the Green Ranger and the Yellow Ranger went on a date.
"This is great!" Kevin commented, "I love movies. I've never seen a movies in a theater before,"
Please don't come, please don't come,Jayden kept chanting in his head. A double-date, he was okay with. Having Kevin tagging along well...He might as well invite Antonio too. It wouldn't be much of a romantic atmosphere. And by reading the look on Mike's face, he did not want Kevin to come either.
"I bet it will be fun. I hope you guys have a good time." Kevin finished off and both Jayden and Mike sighed in relief that went by unnoticed.
"Maybe we could all go together sometime. But for right now guys, I need to find a movie to watch. I actually don't have a movie planned. Later," Jayden said before running off to check the showings.
"Oh! I need to get some flowers!" Mike exclaimed before sprinting after Jayden. Kevin only stood in the hallway, with hands in his pockets.
"I need to find something to do tonight." He said to himself.
Emily chuckled to herself and gleefully walked to her room and prepare for the movies. Lewis got help and Emily had a date, a win-win. She swore she had heard the sound of Ji's motorcycle earlier, but that couldn't be Jayden, she thought. His training sessions with Eve would usually end hours from now.
She was midway through her doorway until she remembered she had left her magazine in the living room. There were a few hairstyles in it that she would love to wear to the movies. She was really good with hair and makeup. Maybe if she wasn't a Ranger, she could have gotten into cosmetology. She would definitely consider that as a future career.
She scurried to the living room and past Antonio's worktable. Over the course of the week, the device grew on the Rangers and the curiosity died. Eventually the Rangers stopped glancing at it as they past the table.
Emily was the only exception. Now knowing what it was from Lewis' explanations, she eyed the worktable and saw the Xel. She wondered why Lewis hadn't asked for it back yet. Then Emily picked it up and held the metal orb in her hand and tossed it into the air like a ball. She repeated the process while she quickly read through a paragraph on her magazine.
"Emily, you'll never believe what Jayden asked me!" Mia rushed into the living room, "Wait, what are you doing?"
"What do you mean?" Emily put down the magazine long enough to see Mia staring at her free hand, the one throwing the Xel. She had been doing the same movement for the past few minutes and didn't notice that she could no longer hold it. The Xel was blanching and was becoming less apparent. A second later, all Emily could feel on her hand was air.
"Where did it go?" Emily shouted in alarm, letting go of her magazine in the process.
"What is going on?" Mia asked. Emily was pretty sure Mia had witnessed the disappearing act too.
"The Xe-, I mean that device. It's like it disappeared." Oh snap! Emily thought in her head. It disappeared like how Lewis almost did.
"Would you care to explain what is happening?" Emily shook her head. If she told Mia then she would have to explain to her that her teenage daughter from the future happens to be in the camping out in the forest with a time machine in her tent.
"I must have dropped it,"
"But I saw, it-it just evaporated into thin air,"
"Mia," Emily placed her hands on Mia's shoulders, in a motherly way, "I dropped it. I'll look on the floor for it later. So, what did Jayden ask you?" Then she whisked Mia off to her room. Mia hesitantly told Emily the movie date. She would have to question her about it later.
"I'm so happy for you! And guess what? Mike asked me out too!" Actually Emily was the one who offered to go to the movies, but she thought she could preserve his manhood by saying that.
By this point Mia had forgotten about the Xel and gasped, "Really? Emily, that's awesome!"
"Double date? Listen, we need to really get ready for tonight then. Shall we?" Mia nodded and they walked into Mia's room. With the Pink Ranger's back turned, Emily texted a message to Lewis on her Samuraizer.
'Be calm. We'll be on our way'
Later that night,
With the guys...
Mike and Jayden were nervously pacing in the living room. They were already decked out in their button up shirts (in their respective colors). Jayden wore a suit jacket over his while Mike had a vest on top. Jayden could tell that Mike was as nervous as him. He was sweating uncontrollably and tried covering it up with an overdose on the body spray.
Jayden, on the other hand, had never been on a date before so he was extremely worried things wouldn't go as planned. But he was glad that Mike was going to be there. The Green Ranger might be a wreck at the moment, but Jayden knew that he would be a total Romeo during the date. Maybe his smooth moves could rub off on him.
"What is taking the girls so long?" Mike wondered aloud.
With the girls...
"Mia, where's my lip gloss?"
"Which one?"
"Cherry flavored-"
"with the sparkles on the tube?"
"Yes!"
"In my bag, I borrowed it last week. Sorry. Hey, have you seen my hair clip?"
"The daisy one?"
"Uh-huh,"
"Check my desk,"
Back with the boys...
"Who knows?" Jayden asked, "And where is Antonio? He's been really secretive this week."
"He's not the only one," Mike muttered to himself but in a louder voice he replied to Jayden with an "I don't know."
Then at that moment, Jayden heard two sets of footsteps coming down the hallway. He shot up from his seat like a rocket to greet Mia, but it turned out to be Kevin and Ji...in trench coats. They seemed to be heading out.
"Now where are you two going?" Mike asked.
Ji looked at Kevin and the two were engaged in a whispered conversation. Then Kevin responded, "Oh to the market. Yeah," Then the two scurried out the door without another word.
"Weird,"
The boys turned at the sound of another voice coming from the hallway. It was Emily and Mia. Mike could not take his eyes off of Emily. She wore a nice yellow blouse and a flowing skirt that reached her knees. Her eyes sparked with excitement and happiness as she stared at Mike. He felt so lucky to just be in her presence, and he took her hand in his and they walked out the front door, conversing about tonight.
Jayden was completely floored. Mia was extremely beautiful tonight. She had on a nice black and pink dress and a lace cardigan shrouding her shoulders. She tucked a hair behind her ear due to her own nervousness.
"So, shall we go?" Jayden found his voice and offered his hand to her. Mia grinned and took it. Then the night began.
Antonio was giving up. It was not like himself for giving up. He held on for nearly a week trying to catch a fish, especially a fish that he had a strange connection with. It was as if that fish was calling him. If so, then what for? Why would a fish be communicating with him? Maybe it was some weird fisherman sixth sense.
He checked the time on his phone, "It's almost 9, man,"
Ryder scoffed, "I'm aware it's late."
"Dude, let's just call it off," Antonio had already packed up his fishing pole and was about ready to wheel the fish cart back to the Shiba House, "We've been here all week and there was no sign of it."
"It doesn't mean it's not there," Setting down the fishing pole, Ryder stalked up to Antonio, "Listen, this fish could mean something big. We've been working too long and too hard to let it go."
"I know. But I don't want to waste the rest of my life trying to catch it. I rarely saw my friends during this entire week. I'm sorry." Antonio turned around and walked off.
"Antonio, wait!" Ryder called after him, but he wouldn't listen. Without Antonio, there would be no fish. Ryder was only there to help him. He couldn't possibly catch the Zord on his own. He threw down the fishing pole and was ready to trudge down to the campsite for an "I told you so" from Lewis a scolding from Eve.
It seemed all hope was lost. Then Ryder heard a scraping noise and his eyes immediately went down to the fishing pole. It had moved a few feet. Huh? He bent down to retrieve it when it suddenly moved towards the water. He jumped and landed hard on the floor and managed to get a hold of the pole before it escaped.
Ryder wobbled to his feet. This fish was surprisingly strong. Wait a minute. Could this be the Koi Zord? Ryder's feet were sliding against the dock floor. Anxiety was never one to cross with him, but he felt his hands were becoming moist from sweat, in turn loosening his grip on the fishing pole. He knew deep down that this was it.
He had thought Antonio was exaggerating the strength of the Zord. He should never underestimate the power of a fish, especially if it's one born from Ranger technology.
"Antonio! Help!"
The older Gold Ranger grew tired of Ryder's shouts and swiveled his head to tell him to stop. That was when he saw a gargantuan shape rising from the water in the far distance. The dorsal fin shone under the moonlight, for it was made from metal to Antonio's shock. The tail fin was thrashing wildly in the water. He squinted to see a fishing hook had caught onto the lower part of the fish. Then Antonio thought back to Ryder's cry for help. He put the pieces together and reacted.
Ryder saw his father quickly came to his aid. He secured Ryder in place by grasping his son's shoulders.
The older Ranger howled in excitement despite the danger of the situation, "See? I told you it's a tugger!"
"This can't draw out for long. The line's gonna snap soon," Ryder figured it would either be them or the line to give out first.
"This fish needs to get it through his head that. We. Are. Not. Giving. Up," Antonio said with quick short breaths.
"Says the guy who was going to walk out a minute ago?" Ryder retorted. His shoulder could pop from his shoulder any minute now. This Zord was not surrendering anytime soon. Then he remembered that this was a Zord. Rangers control Zords! Ryder found a genius plan in his father's words. Get through his head...
Ryder knew he could die from this plan...or be greatly injured. He decided to break through the facade and just speak in terms Antonio would understand, "Antonio, this is a Zord and it's out of control."
"A Zord? Wha?" Antonio said, coyly, "You're talking like some Power Ranger or something," He brought himself to step backwards with the fishing pole, but the floor was sliding from underneath their feet.
"Antonio, let go,"
"Are you insane? You want to let it go? After everything?"
"No. I've got this. Do you trust me?" He heard his father sigh before nodding. Ryder grinned. He gained newfound confidence, "Remember when you said that I was talking like a Power Ranger?"
"Yeah?"
Ryder turned his head to face Antonio. He looked directly into his eyes and with a smirk, "Well.. I am one."
Antonio was struck speechless. In the midst of the surprise, he let go of the fishing pole. The next thing he saw was Ryder getting zipped into the ocean.
Ryder was being thrashed around underwater. The line jerked from side to side violently, whipping him all around in the water. He tried to focus on climbing up the the line. With his blurred vision, he could still find the massive figure of the Koi Zord in the near distance. Concentrating on his strength, he took the risk of letting one of his hands free and losing a stronghold on the pole. He was able to push through the currents the Zord was causing and curled his fingers further up the fishing pole.
He continued with this until he was near the dorsal fin. By this time he was just about out of air. Luckily, the Zord decided to make a leap into the air like a dolphin those miniscule seconds on the surface, Ryder's sudden intake of air was enough to pull himself onto the dorsal fin when they returned to underwater. Once on the fin, he felt around the surface for the hatch. He blinked a couple of times, he was adjusting to seeing underwater. He found a metal handle and grabbed onto it. It opened and he shimmied inside to a room full of more water.
He had been inside a submarine before and he recognized this as the airlock. It was the room that allows people to enter in and out a submarine without flooding the entire ship. It was filled with water now but after he finds the wheel to turn in order to drain the water, it would soon be safe to breathe.
Ryder didn't wait until the entire airlock chamber was empty. It was halfway full (optimistic much?) when he barged through the door leading into the cockpit of the Koi Zord. He found himself in a dark room with only a slightly glowing podium in the center. Two large oval shaped windows overlooked the waters ahead, but it was blurring and he could only make out a few rock formations and some fish. The Koi Zord was too fast. At a closer look at the windows, he saw his own reflection.
It was Ryder, in his natural state. The Guise had worn off when he submerged. Then a unmistakable shape whizzing through the waters caught his eye. It was a giant squid or octopus by the looks of it. He could see it was in a hot pursuit of the Zord. It was Antonio.
He was obviously trying to rescue Ryder. Ryder's hand flew to the podium. There were no controls, only a button and a tiny slot where a Spin Sword in Mega Mode or a Barracuda Blade could fit. The Koi Zord had only been rouge because it had no owner. If only Eve didn't confiscate his gold Morpher, he would take over the Zord.
Ryder couldn't leave, especially all that he and Antonio had been through trying to capture the Koi. He had to claim the Koi somehow. He just needed to get Antonio to get inside the Zord to take control. But how? There was a PA system in all the Zords. That was how the Rangers could be able to speak to the Nighlok during pre-destruction. He pressed the button and soon his voice was projected for all sea life to hear.
"Antonio!" he shouted. He heard the sound amplified outside of the vessel, "You have to get inside the Zord to control it!"
"On it!" he heard as a response coming from the Octozord, "Mega Speed activate!"
Ryder saw the shape of the squid growing bigger and bigger until he was face to face with the head of the Octozord. Then Antonio, as the Gold Ranger, was able to jump ontop of the Koi Zord. He heard taps and knocks coming from above then Antonio came in, drenched in water. The Gold Ranger demorphed and approached Ryder with his Barracuda Blade pointed at him.
"Who are you?" Ryder raised his hands in surrender at sight of the blade, a gesture that became a habit after a few run-ins with S.P.D. He thought this was the opportune time to tell Antonio who he really was. Or better yet, show him. Ryder eyed the Morpher in his right pants pocket then the Barracuda Blade.
He took the Blade by its sharp end with both hands and lifted it into the air, causing a diversion. Ryder rolled passed Antonio, then he stood up and turned to face his father. Raising his hand, Antonio's Gold Morpher was in his hand.
Antonio's hand reached for his right pocket, now empty. He stared at Ryder in astonishment. But that was only the beginning. Ryder then morphed in front of Antonio's eyes.
It was a reflection. Antonio was feeling an out-of-body experience. He was seeing himself...and that was after demoprhing as well. Ryder looked so much like his father that it was like gazing at a mirror.
Silence.
Then Ryder made the move to take the Barracuda Blade from Antonio's hands, but he was too quick. Antonio was already to the control podium and slid the Barracuda Blade. The Zord shook and rumbled, but the two paid no attention to their surroundings. The father and son locked eyes. Then Antonio put out his hand, "You're my son then,"
Ryder nodded."Yup."
Antonio put aside all formalities and rushed up to embrace his son. Ryder wasn't prepared and was struck with surprise as his father was hugging him. He froze under his touch. It brought back sad memories, the time when he left for tour. How gullible he was, thinking his rockstar father was coming back like he promised. He suddenly remembered that this man was not him.
His father was a heartless, selfish jerk who didn't bother to send him a birthday card or a acknowledgement of his existence.
Existence?
Ryder recalled what Lewis had said to him before. If he kept on changing the past, there was a tiny chance that the future would be as it was when he left it. Of course if he succeeded, he would get to see his father more often, but what could that mean for Ryder? His experiences made him who he was today.
"No, get off of me," he gruffly asserted and pulled away from Antonio's hug, "I don't want this," Ryder saw the hurt in his father''s eyes but still distanced himself. He realized that despite his attempts, nothing could ever change who his father was
Lewis, again, was right. Ryder needed to make things right. He had a plan to preserve the future. Ryder didn't respond, he was already out of the cockpit and making his way into the airlock hatch.
Lewis noticed Eve was a bit off. They had been sitting on the theater seats far before the movie even began. And during that time, Eve, at five minute intervals, checked her watch. He tried to make conversation but each topic would be concluded by Eve.
"So this movie... how long do you think is going to last?"
"A couple of hours,"
"Do you like popcorn?"
"Um... not really,"
Lewis was in low spirits. He could not see how this date could be any better. That was the case until he saw familiar people enter the theater, "Eve? Is that your parents?"
Eve had full attention on Jayden and Mia. It was if they interested her more than Lewis, which made saddened him a bit. Then he felt someone tap his shoulder. He turned to see Emily and Mike. While Mike wasn't looking, Emily waved at him. Wait? My mom came to see me on my date?, Lewis thought, embarrassed. He recalled the text she received from her earlier. That was what she meant by 'We're on our way'.
"It turns out my parents aren't the only ones on a date," Eve commented when she saw Mike and Emily take a seat behind Jayden and Mia, "Wait a minute, those two down there look familiar too!" she whisper-shouted. Lewis eyes followed to where she was looking and recognized them, "It's Grandpa Ji and Uncle Kevin!" Lewis nodded, confirming Eve's sentence.
"Is everybody here tonight?"
"Not everybody," The two turned around and to their shock, found Ryder, still disguised as Spike. Lewis didn't know that at first and so he tried to carry on with the date. But with a closer look he saw that Ryder's guise was partly wearing off. Patches of his tan skin were showing and his nose shape went back to the original, "Ryder!" Eve and Lewis exclaimed at the same time.
A couple of 'shh's broke out in the theater. Jayden and Mia turned to see where the shout came from and when he caught sight of his daughter, his eyes widened. Great, he thought, another thing to worry about. I thought it was just the date, but now I have to keep Mia from seeing Eve. He guided Mia back to face the screen, "I think it's going to start."
"Oh ok. I just hope those two in the back won't pose a problem,"
Jayden laughed nervously, "Yeah. Let's hope they don't interfere," he stressed that word loudly, intending for Eve to hear. Then the 'shh's were directed at him now.
"Hey buddy, we're trying to watch the movie," A familiar nasal voice said. It came from Spike, the real Spike. He came to the movies with his Uncle Bulk. The two were sitting next to the couple, with Spike sitting a seat away from Mia.
Jayden felt his stomach turn at the sight of him. Mia leaned on her seat, "Spike? Is that you?"
He could see that Spike opened it his mouth to respond but no sound came out, so his Uncle Bulk decided to slap him hard on the back. "M-Mia?" Spike sputtered out, "What are you doing here?"
"Oh, I'm on a date. Spike, this is Jayden. Jayden, this is Spike. I think you guys have met before,"
"Hey," Jayden said nicely. Hopefully the ever-so-stated fact Mia was on a date with him could repel Spike.
Spike's grin disappeared. And in a glum voice greeted Jayden, "Hello."
The conversation ended there for there was a trailer for an upcoming movie that played next.
"Ryder, where were you this entire time?" Eve restrained from yelling at him, "We've been trying to find you all week."
"I was so worried that you were going to disappear,"
"Disappear?" Eve cocked her head to the side at Lewis's statement, "What do you mean disappear?"
Lewis facepalmed himself. He must have forgotten to fill Eve in. He must have been distracted when she asked him to go to the movies with her. So he told her the same thing he told Ryder on the docks about messing up the order of events and how she and him nearly disappeared.
"No, no, no. See? This is what happens when we time travel. We need to go back to our own time right now," Eve said while getting out of her seat.
"Wait, we can't," Lewis placed his hand on her shoulder to stop her, "We won't know what kind of future we'll be returning to. Things could be so much different."
"But what's the alternative? Staying here for the rest of our lives?"
"No. I-I don't know what more we could do,"
Ryder huffed and took a seat next to Eve, "I don't know about you two, but I'm all out for leaving. I sick of this vacation. Any of you got a water on ya? I'm beat from hitching a ride on a fish," Lewis hoped that last one was an expression then searched through his bag for a water bottle.
"I say, one more night here" Eve said, "Ryder, I'm really sorry for the way I treated you. I shouldn't be so hard on you. You were doing what you thought was best."
"It's cool Eve. And I'm sorry for being such a reckless fool. I should have listened to you. Maybe if I had, we wouldn't be on the verge of being erased from time. Hug?"
Eve, surprised that this would be coming from Ryder, reluctantly gave him a hug. She could smell the sea off of him, making her curious to what he had been up to.
"So, plan?" Lewis piped up, glad that his friends had reconciled. Ryder handed Lewis the empty water bottle. The bottled triggered a memory and Lewis found himself creating a plan, "Eve, you still have the memory serum in your bag?"
Eve nodded then checked her bag hanging off her shoulder, "We need to give it to the Rangers. Hopefully they would just forget we were ever here and they would hopefully get together on their own."
Ryder munched loudly on popcorn he swiped from the bucket, "Yeah. Destiny and all that," he said through mouthfuls.
"I'm going to the campsite. I'll get everything for takeoff. You two will stay here and monitor your parents and find a way to slip in the serum without being noticed. Don't forget about my dad. He needs to get the serum too. Catch ya later." Ryder said before exiting the theater.
Eve looked to Lewis with a sad expression, "We're going home?" She sounded like a child at a friend's house, begging for another five minutes of play time.
"Yeah,"
"No. I need more time. I-I gotta go,"
"Can you stay for a little while? What is with you Eve?"
"Nothing. Maybe I could stay for half an hour. After that I have to go out for a little while." Eve had forgotten to look for somebody. She needed to consult with this person before leaving. She stared at the screen but all she could think about was her mission.
But soon, Eve was transfixed by the movie. It was quite amazing how she enjoyed it without a single explosion of a fight scene. Due to nervousness, she hogged the popcorn, which didn't go unnoticed by Lewis. For Lewis loved popcorn and he tried several times to talk Eve into sharing. By halfway through the movie, she gave in and shared. There was only a few popcorn left. Lewis could touch the bottom of the bowl. He thought it opportune time to get a refill.
Apparently Eve was thinking the same thing, so she clutched onto the side of the bowl. At the same time, Lewis grabbed the same side so their hands touched. Eve felt a spark travel up her arm. Concerned, she pulled away and shied away in her seat. Lewis couldn't shake off that feeling he had once he touched her hand. He nearly forgot about getting the popcorn.
A little further down the rows of seats, the Ranger couples were having a great time. Jayden just loved the way her eyes were glued to the screen, hanging onto the action and plot and laughing at the appropriate time. But unknown to Jayden, her focus went between from watching the screen to watching Jayden while he wasn't looking at her.
Mia could tell that Jayden hadn't seen a comedy before. She saw how tense he was in his seat, as if anticipating for an explosion or an epic fight scene. It was funnier to watch him react than to watch the actual movie. Then she took a glance at Emily and Mike. Mike had his arm around Emily and she rested her head on Mike's shoulder. She was happy for her friend.
Kevin and Ji watched from behind the Samurai team and even though they were there for the movie, it was nice to see the team being romantic with each other. Although it made both of them feel a bit lonely.
"I need to get a girlfriend," Kevin commented sadly.
"Me too," The Blue Ranger stared at his Mentor with an odd expression as he said that. Just imagining him dating. Kevin shivered at the thought.
At the Sanzu River...
Octoroo clutched the Chalice in his tentacle-like hands. He was wading in the shallow part of the River with Dayu by his side, "The plan shall commence tonight. But all we need is some Ranger bait,"
"But Octoroo, what about Master Xandred?" Dayu referred to their Master's fragile state. He had given a majority of his power to activate the Chalice. He had been soaking in the Sanzu for hours. It seemed as if he wouldn't emerge for days.
"He would be fine. It was for his own good. Look here," Octoroo gestured to where he and Dayu were. It was where the Sanzu River meets the fresh water of the human world. The water ran light pink than its usual blood red, almost like lemonade, "This water here is not as deadly as the Sanzu. But it does have some of its properties. The only difference is, that it's safe for humans to drink,"
"Wait, you're going to have a human drink that?" Dayu asked curiously, "Are you sure it wouldn't kill?"
"I'm positive and we just need to get the Magenta Ranger to drink this and Phase 2 would be completed,"
"Shall I go and prepare the Moogers?"
"Yes, and make sure they are stationed near the Cinemas. When they see pink, they would be sure to attack,"
A/N:
Hello loyal readers! I am back. I was gone for pretty much the entire summer perfecting my stories and making sure which direction I am taking with them. To treat you guys, I have uploaded two chapters, 11 and 12. So be sure to check 12 out.
And the comment I made about Emily being into cosmetology is actually based on what Brittany Anne Pirtle said in one of the Ask a Ranger interviews on the SabansPowerRangers Youtube channel. She was asked what she would like to be if she wasn't an actress. She is actually in school studying cosmetology as a fallback.
Any ideas to what Octoroo plans to do with the Chalice? Hint, if you know what deviation means then you may have the sense to know what's going on.
Why did Eve call Kevin, "Uncle Kevin"? Hm...?
So anyway, I appreciate all the reviews, favorites, and alerts. This story would be coming to a close soon but that doesn't mean it ends here. There are plans for the sequel which I am confirming the title as 'Samurai Patrol Delta: A Chase Through Time' I just love the sound of it. It was a tie between that and 'SPD Classified: Code Samurai'.
Okay, be kind to one another because everybody deserves to be treated awesomely! (Even Xandred)
Thanks for the support! R & R!
