~Chapter 23~

Anna

I held my breath preparing for a painful impact of stone and debris. Time slowed in seconds and yet I heard Kristoff screeching my name, but he sounded so far away. Was this really going to be how Arendelle was going to fall by tragic destruction-again? There was no time to roll or duck out of the way and a large rock fell on top of my foot pinning me in place. Pain surged immediately and as I prepared to take a final lethal blow, I closed my eyes, but it never came. I opened a single eye and there was an earth giant huddled above me couched low, blocking me from getting hit by the falling debris.

"Thank you." I told the giant.

It nodded at me, barely moving not wanting to lose focus. Kristoff's view was blocked by the giant and he couldn't see anything.

"Anna!" I heard him call in his panicked tone, "Tell me you're okay."

As I looked down at my pinned foot, I tried to move it, but the slightest movement sent shooting pain throughout my leg.

"I'm here, Kristoff." I called back not wanting him to worry, "Are you guys pinned?"

"Yes, but with some time, I think we can dig ourselves out." Hans answered back, "But it might be awhile."

"Well, take your time, I'm not going anywhere." I replied sarcastically.

I could hear grunts and shifting movement and could do nothing, but wait. The earth giant held its ground until it howled in pain. Who knew rock creatures could experience pain. Something hit him on his back side that was exposed to the outside. I could vaguely see flashes of red from fire, but then the giants whole body began to glow. It's hollow eyes began to glow and then it's face began to disappear. James was doing something to it, but I didn't know what. It was reverting back to its most basic form, a pile of rocks. Though with that came danger as the rocks that made up the former giant fell down all around me leaving a large cloud of dust in its wake.

Warmth trickled down my face and I didn't have to look in a mirror to know that it was blood. My whole body was now pinned and all I could see in my immediate view was a little hole in the rubble to the outside. I saw that molten creature flying away toward the north mountain and then smoke obscured my vision.

"Anna, talk to me." Kristoff called out, "No matter what, stay awake."

I heard his voice, but I couldn't respond. Even with my heavy breathing and adrenaline pulsing through my veins, it wasn't enough to keep me conscious. I fought against it as best I could, but I couldn't help it, the world around me faded to black.
