Chapter 3:

Marinette swung through her trapdoor as her last dot rang. Tikki swirled out of the earrings with a happy but tired expression. She looked at her new bug.

"So? What do you think?"

Marinette thought for a minute. Then came the explosion of words. "Honestly, I feel scared. What if a supervillain comes during school? I guess I have to become fluent in lies. I hate liars though! Would that make me a hypocrite? Does swinging in the air get easier? What if-"

Tikki let her spill it all out. It seems like Marinette thinks while she talks, so she let her for a few minutes. That is, until her tummy started getting the rumblies.

"It gets easier I promise. You're smart and you can figure it out, and I'll be willing to help you. But for now, do you have any sweets? Transformations take energy."

Marinette snapped out of her rambles and a more confident side was back.

"Oh I see! I live above a bakery so I could get you any kind of baked goods you'd like. Do you like chocolate chip?" She asked. Tikki thought about it for a moment. A cookie would be so good. Chocolate melts in the mouth, filling one with palpable happiness. Those kinds of treats were a luxury last time she was called, so how could she refuse?

"Yes!" she excitedly exclaimed. Marinette giggled and hid her in her jacket as she lifted her door and headed down the stairs.

Adrien was determined. Today, he was going to public school.

He had registered himself in advance and got the information from Chloe. Registering online was too easy, all things considered. He had more than enough money on his card and he stole any social security information from the bedside table in his father's bedroom. It's not like he's ever in there anyways. Then, he waited for school to actually begin, which was yesterday.

Plan A was to run out the door as fast as he can. But, his bodyguard is faster than he looked and, well, he got caught immediately. Not today though. Adrien was going to get to school today whether they liked it or not.

Plan B was much more complex, and he hoped he wouldn't have to use it, but he did. He wasn't about to let fear of yesterday's events keep him from going to school like he's been planning for months now. Besides, Ladybug will protect them. Anyways, he meticulously planned every detail of his escape. He woke up two hours before school was supposed to start, and got ready to go. He got dressed, grabbed his bag and opened his window. In his closet, he stashed a long rope. A reason he was reluctant to use this plan was because if he used it, it'll be taken and it was extremely hard to get a hold of. He had Chloe sneak it in, and she could barely keep a secret. By some miracle though, he was able to keep it hidden. He tied one end securely around the couch leg closest to the window, and flung the rest out the window. It wasn't near long enough, but considering how many times he's fallen off the climbing wall in his room, that height was easy enough. He hoisted himself up onto his windowsill, grabbed the rope, and propelled down. He dropped to the ground with little noise and looked around for a brief moment before settling his eyes on his mother's statue.

"Hi mom." he talked in a whisper. "I'm off to school. Wish me luck." he waved it goodbye and crept around the building to climb the front gate.

Natalie came in at a precise time every day. Always right on the dot, seven days a week, 365 days a year. Adrien waited for her to use her pass to get inside the property. Once her car came in, he sprinted out the gate as it was closing. He briefly looked back to see if she saw him, luckily she didn't. This must be my lucky day. He smiled as he started heading to the school.

The sun came up on the horizon as he was walking. He looked on his watch, 7:03. They typically woke him up at 7:30. So he figured he had a little time before he had to be in the school. His plan was to be in the safety of the building before they can catch him on the streets, but he had a little under thirty minutes.

He then heard his stomach protest to all his recent activities. Oh yeah, I forgot about breakfast. Maybe I can buy something? He questioned as he saw the school come into view. He looked around for anything that might be open. He saw one that was. It was right next to the school, and it was painted white with a golden trim and many windows. A bell rang as he walked into the cozy place. It smelled of freshly baked croissants and eclair filling.

A big man at the counter looked up from wiping off the counter and spoke with a smile.

"Welcome to Tom and Sabine Boulangerie Patisserie. Do you see anything you like?"

"Everything looks so good. I've never been here before. What do you recommend sir?"

The man thought for a moment.

"You're a student right? Are you here to buy lunch for later?"

"Breakfast actually. I forgot to eat before I left."

"This early though? I'd think you'd have time to eat if you have twenty minutes to spare before school." This left Adrien in a slight stupor for a moment. He then decided to come out and say it.

"Can I be completely honest with you sir?" The man gave him a curious look before nodding to continue.

"Well, I've been homeschooled my whole life, and I snuck out so I can go to the public school next door. I wanted to make some friends and live a little if you know what I mean."

The man smiled and let out a hearty laugh. "Ha, I see what you mean there. I myself was homeschooled up until middle school. It was so dull before then. You'll have fun, trust me."

"Glad you think so sir."

"Oh, you can call me Tom. Now, for breakfast I usually recommend either an egg croissant or some cheese bread. Both are really filling. Which would you prefer?"

"Ooh, the cheese bread sounds delicious." Adrien knew his dietritionist would flip if he heard of this, but it smelled so good.

"Good choice." Tom smiled as he grabbed some tongs and fished out the bread and told him the price. Adrien fished out his wallet and paid. He then took a bite and smiled.

"This is so good. Do you make these yourself?"

"Nah, it was my wife's turn today. I'll send her your compliments."

"You better." Adrien took another bite as he started heading out the door.

"Come again ok?" Tom called after him.

"I will!"

Adrien then decided to actually go to the school now. He finished his bread as he crossed the street and made his way to the large front gates that were slowly being opened by the janitors. But, suddenly he heard an 'oof' and he turned around. There was an old man who seemingly fell over, his cane three feet in front of him. Instinct kicked in and Adrien jumped down the stairs to help him.

"Hey, are you ok?" he asked as he scooped up the cane and helped the man up.

"Yeah, I'm alright now. Thanks so much."

"You sure? Do you need anything else?"

"Actually, I need help finding this street. Can you help me?" he asked as he pulled a crumpled map from his pocket.

Adrien nodded. He spent the next few minutes explaining where to turn and what little landmarks were where. The old man asked a lot of questions and asked for Adrien to repeat himself a bit, but he patiently answered all the questions. The man thanked him and Adrien went into the gates.

As soon as Adrien was out of sight, Plagg came out. "He's the one." he said, like it was the most obvious thing on earth.

This took Fu by surprise a little bit. They were walking down the opposite side of the road and then Plagg pointed to him and asked that they watch him. They observed him make a nice little conversation with the baker. Most people at this time in the morning demand their food and leave but no, despite being a teenager, he talked pleasantly and kindly. Fu then decided to test him, so he purposely fell over then asked for directions. He expected him to show a sign of impatience or anxiety but he found none. Fu liked this boy already, but he didn't expect Plagg to decide on him just like that.

"What?"

"He's the one. He's my next Kitten." Plagg repeated.

Apparently now was the time Wayzz wanted to speak. "Ok. But I'm curious, what about this boy stands out more than the rest of the potential black cats that we've encountered?"

"Is it really your concern?"

They decided that they shouldn't argue any more. It was pointless, Plagg was too stubborn.

"Alright," Fu started. "You'll be able to meet him tonight when he gets home."

Plagg then protested as he was sucked back into the ring, seconds before Marinette came into view, that is.

The instant Adrien walked through the doors he was reminded of why he doesn't hang out with Chloe much anymore. The shrill squeal of 'Adrikins' sent shivers down his spine and she was attached to his arm like a leech before he could count to three.

"I'm sooooo happy you made it today! I was worried you'd get caught again today!" she said in a still high pitched voice that didn't sound natural at all.

"Yeah, I was too." he quietly responded as more and more students started gathering around.

Meanwhile, Marinette rushed in and checked her phone. Wait, I'm early?! That's a first. Marinette was woken up by her parents, them saying that a student was their first customer today and that reminded them that she was still sleeping and she had school today too. But she still wasn't thinking straight and she hurried out the door thinking she was going to be late again. She decided to go find Alya, which wasn't too hard, since she found her first.

"Hey, who's that?" Alya asked. "Probably someone famous, if he has Chloe kissing up to him like that." she said in a slightly disgusted tone.

Marinette thought for a moment. "He looks familiar. I think I've seen him somewhere before, but I don't remember where." She said before something caught her eye. She then gasped and started sneaking over.

"Marinette, what are you-"

"Shhhhh" she said as she pulled Alya down next to her and they started creeping forward. They tiptoed into the locker room and held very still.

Marinette peeked out from behind the lockers and listened to the conversation and Alya poked her head on top of hers.

"So you think you can do this for me?" a gruff but, bashful voice asked.

"Sure thing Bro! She's going to love it!"

"So, I'll meet up with you later to start recording?"

"Yeah Dude! This is going to be epic! Best confession this school has ever seen!"

"Thanks Nino."

"Hey, no prob! Just tell me what happens after."

Then there was silence. Marinette pulled alya backwards so they were completely hidden behind the lockers, and luckily Ivan didn't see them. Nino walked by a moment later, he didn't see them either.

Alya then decided to speak up. "Ok so what was that Marinette?"

"Ivan is finally confessing!" Marinette quietly squealed.

"Ok what?"

Marinette looked at her in shock a split second before remembering that Alya was still new at this school.

"Oh. So Ivan, the tall one, is in love with this girl named Mylene. She likes him back actually. Everyone knows it but them, and they've been dodging each other for a good two years now. But now he's confessing! Mylene will be so happy!" Then Alya finally understood.

"Oh and, just out of curiosity, who was that other guy?" Alya asked.

"His name is Nino. He likes music. He's quite good and being a DJ and making music videos. You should meet him sometime! He's pretty cool." Marinette said with a teasing look in her eye.

"Oh stop it."

Marinette just giggled.

AN: There we are. I hope y'all like this one. I think we all get frustrated with Adrien sometimes because of his obliviousness. He's actually really smart, but I don't think it's shown as much in the show. He's smart, but socially inexperienced. Also, I think the school would have shipped Mylene and Ivan like they do with Marinette and Adrien. You know, the girls encouraging her to confess and fangirling over everything good that happens. Just a headcanon, but I think it'd be realistic if they did. There'll be more action in the next one! I'm thrilled.
