At Redwall, Matthias and Pinkie Pie told everybeast what they had seen.
"I've heard of Cluny the Scourge before," said Constance. "He used to be a searat before he gave up pirating and became a Warlord on land."
"If my father was here, he'd soon send him packing," said Basil.
"What are we gonna do?" asked Fluttershy.
"I'll tell you what we'll do," said Matthias. "We'll be ready!"
"Most of us don't have any experience of warfare," said the Abbot. "We are mice of peace."
"My friends and I will do whatever we can to help," said Twilight Sparkle.
"Yeah, leave it to us," said Applejack.
Matthias jumped up on a table. "Me too! I've never fought in a battle before, but I'm ready for anything."
"That's the spirit!" Rainbow Dash cheered.
"I have heard many tales of your bravery when you and your friends defended Equestria against enemies," Abbot Mortimer said to Twilight. "I will put you in charge of protecting Redwall from Cluny. Whatever you say, we will do."
"We'd better mount a guard on the walls," Twilight said. "Matthias, do you want to go up on the west wall with me?"
Matthias puffed himself up at the prospect of such an important job. "Sure. You can count on me, Princess Twilight!"
"Constance, will you and Fluttershy patrol the east wall in case they try to sneak up on us from behind?"
"I'd be happy to," said Constance.
Fluttershy looked at her admiringly. "Oh, good. I'm glad I got paired with you. You're so big and strong. I won't have to be afraid of rats with you around."
"AJ and Rarity, you cover the south wall," Twilight continued. "And Basil and Pinkie Pie can cover the north wall."
"Okie dokie lokie!" said Pinkie Pie.
"Righto! Quick's the word an' sharp's the action, wot!" said Basil.
"You forgot about me!" Rainbow Dash complained.
Twilight turned to her friend. "I didn't forget you, Rainbow Dash. I'm giving you the most important job of all. I need you to be my eyes in the sky. Go flying around the forest and see if you can spot where Cluny is now and what he's up to."
Rainbow Dash saluted. "No problem for a master Wonderbolt."
As they were all about to separate and go to their posts, Cornflower grabbed Matthias by the arm. "Here, I want you to have this." She took off the yellow headband she was wearing and tied it around Matthias's arm. "A maiden's colors for her champion warrior."
"Thanks, Cornflower," said Matthias.
