It had been a horrible day.

When Brian walked through the door of their apartment, he was so done with the world as he knew it. Sure, he had taken upon the job of a doctor to help people, but how could he help them when God supposedly had other plans? No, the man had never believed in God, but he really did want to give him a piece of his mind if Brian could meet him.

The sound of shoes on the pavement floor made Eric look up from where he was seated the couch, much like Brian, the man came home just a few minutes ago. "Brian? Is that you?".

Instead of answering, Brian made a beeline for his fiancé and moved to lie down right next to him without uttering a word.

"Are you okay, honey?" Eric softly asked, he fingers treading through the brown mop of hair on his chest. Buried deep inside his neck, Brian shook his head. "What happened? Do you want to talk about it?". After feeling another shake of his head, Eric figured it was 'that' kind of a day and settled for just simply cuddling his love.

After a while, Brian started to move, but never once made the effort to get up. His hands went underneath Eric's shirt, silently indicating that he should take it off. And rather sooner than later, the black shirt Eric was wearing moments before, was dropped on the ground, not a second more spend on it than necessary.

"That kind of a day, huh?" Eric tried to get the brunet talking again, but the only thing he got was a nodding head. "You should remove yours too, you look better without it anyway."

Not even a minute later, a shirt dropped besides Eric's black one, and Brian cuddled even closer into his chest.

"I don't get it." Eric couldn't check the time, since Brian was practically draped upon him and therefore couldn't check his watch, but it felt like hours had went by before Brian spoke up again.

"What is it, love?" Gently Eric moved his fingers through the brunette hair, and Brian almost made a purring sound at the feeling. The blonde would have laughed at it if Brian wasn't having such a bad day. He figured he could hold it against him later.

"Why does God let us be alive, if he only plans to kill us off years after? It's unfair, we shouldn't even be alive if we'd die at 32 years old. That's 32 cruel years on this earth, making you dream of the future, only to never give you to chance to actually live in it." This wasn't the first time Brian asked pointless questions like these, and somehow along the way Eric figured out just how to deal with them.

"Brian, it's not your fault, you have to believe that." Eric moved his hands to caress his fiancés cheeks, perfectly catching his eyes like this. A broken shade of brown stared back at him, and he wished he could take all the sadness and heartbreak away from them, just to see a tiny sparkle of happiness again.

"It's the 5th one this month, Eric."

"Yes, but how many have you saved this month already? The year isn't even over yet, it's just begun, sweetheart. You got a whole lot of lives to save this year, and I, for one, very much do believe in you." It seemed like Brian had given up on arguing with the blonde and just buried his face into Eric's neck again. Eric tried moving to another subject as Brian apparently wasn't ready to talk about this, rather wanting to find comfort in the one spot where he could escape it all. "Do you want to order pizza? I don't feel like cooking, and you probably don't either."

"Fine." Eric rolled his eyes at his fiancés antics, (God, he couldn't believe he'd agreed to marry such a drama queen.), but decided he wanted that lovely smile back on his face before he moved.

"Brian, look at me." The brunet caught his blue eyes and stared with hopeless brown ones back at him. "You are an amazing doctor, you've saved so many lives already the past few years. Yes, of course, some people died but the living ones really do out weight them. It's part of the job, not everyone wakes up from their bed and live another day. You don't think I feel bad when some young kiddo lost their parents again? You don't think it feels like a burden on my shoulders when I know I could've seen a hint so much sooner if it wasnt for fatigue and running around headless at 3 am? Of course I am, but it's part of the job description, it's what we signed up for when we took these jobs. But all the sleepless nights are so worth it when we see people reunite with their loved ones, when I get to go home and see you again after feeling like I could die of how tired I feel. Bad days will be there, but also will we, you'll be there when I have a bad day, and I'll be there for you. It's how we work sweetheart, and that's how we roll." Brian's eyes were slightly watering, although he was afraid to admit it, Eric speech hit him right in his feelings. He couldn't even think of words to say back, other than those familiar 3 that he knew Eric must already know by now. So he just threw his arms around his blonde, and let them roll of his tongue once again.

"I love you." A soft loving kiss was placed right behind his ear, and in return Eric felt one being placed on his neck.

"I love you too. Now, pizza sounds good?"

"Pizza sounds great."

For the first time in 9 hours Brian could feel his lips moving into a small smile, and he couldnt seem to wipe it off his face for the next one. At times like this, Brian was grateful he had someone like Eric, someone that knew him so much better than he knew himself, someone he loved with his entire heart and didn't need to be afraid of not receiving just as much back. Times like these made Brian even more sure of their decision, he was so ready to marry this man and to be able to call Eric his husband.
