Basil and Applejack were standing guard on the wall.

"I say, I can see two foxes coming," Basil said. It was Sela and Chickenhound.

"We want to speak to yore Abbot," Sela called up. "We have important information."

The Abbot was sitting in his office when he heard a knock on the door. "Come in," he called.

The foxes entered, escorted by Applejack and Basil. "We know exactly when, where, and how the hordes of Cluny will attack yore Abbey," Sela said, getting right to the point. She placed the secret plans on the Abbot's desk.

The Abbot examined the blueprints. "A battering ram. This sounds like information we can really use. How did you get these?"

"Cluny hired us to heal his injuries," Sela answered. "We stole these plans while he was sleeping. We can find out some more information… for the right price."

She and Chickenhound walked out.

"Ah don't trust them two," Applejack said. "Somethin' about 'em jest don't set well with me. They remind me of those two lyin' unicorn brothers, Flim an' Flam."

"I say, that's goin' it a bit, wot?" Basil said. "What reason would they have to tell us a blinkin' pack of fibs? Personally, I'm inclined to believe the blighters, even though they do stink to high heaven."

"What do you suggest we do, Applejack?" the Abbot asked.

"Turn the tables. Use it to our advantage by mountin' a counterattack now, when the rats least expect it."

The Abbot shook his head. "I'm sorry. To mount an unprovoked attack… I'm afraid I could never sanction that. We'll have to think of something else."

"Those foxes think they have betrayed us," Cluny said to his rats. "But they do not know my real plan. While the defenders of Redwall are preparing for an attack at their front door, we will enter by a different route. For the way into Redwall lies not above the ground, but below it! We'll dig a tunnel into Redwall and catch them by surprise."

"Brilliant, Chief!" Redtooth exclaimed.
