Chapter 12: Another Story must begin

Eponine had been in turmoil all night. In one moment she had lost the love of her life and her best friend, and she didn't even understand why. As painful as it was, Marius clearly felt nothing more than friendship for her. He was wild for Cosette, so why had Cosette got into her head that something was going on with she and Marius? Crazy bitch, had been Eponine's first thought. But then she realises, no one could ever doubt Marius's loyalty. He was the most trustworthy, genuine person. That was why she loved him. It was fair to assume Cosette loved him for the same reason.

Only one other person could have reason to see more than friendship between Eponine and Marius. And that was Leanne. She was the only one who knew how Eponine felt about her friend. But Leanne was Eponine's friend. Why would she sabotage Eponine's relationship with Marius.

These thoughts tormented her as she walked to Leanne's. She had to ask.

She reached Leanne's house and knocked on their door. Leanne greeted her with a smile. "Eponine?" she said cheerfully, "what's wrong?"

Eponine couldn't hold in her feelings. Tears pricked her eyes but she forced herself to swallow her emotions and stand her ground. "Marius hates me. For some reason he thinks I ruined his relationship with Cosette. Put into her head that there was something going on between me and him." Eponine glared at Leanne. "But it wasn't me."

"I wonder who then." Leanne said casually, but Eponine knew her well enough to detect the mockery in her voice.

"Leanne." she pressed.

Leanne's face contorted and she let out a low, sly laugh. "How does it feel?" she said icily. "You ruined everything between Enjolras and me. It's called karma, Eponine."

Eponine gasped. "I'm sorry about Enjolras! You know I am! It was an honest mistake, I was trying to help! You know that, Leanne! I know I messed up but it wasn't out of malice." Eponine turned to go then spun back to face her former friend. "What you did was out of malice. It was just nasty. And it wasn't my fault Enjolras wasn't interested. He rejected you for whatever reason he had." she added. "He probably knew what a cold hearted bitch you are!"

"Me the bitch? You're the one who- in the first place-" Leanne stammered.

"I'm not interested." Eponine cut her off. "I'm done with you. Forever. No more mistakes. Now I have to do what's right."

Eponine took a deep breath and left. She had to go and speak to the last person in the world she wanted to speak to.
