Riley was shocked when he created her. She was Just passing through on a road trip when Riley ended her life in tragedy. Luckily she had no family to miss her. Not like the small scared creature, Bree. No, Christine was different. She was able to control her thirst much better than the other newborns that were frantic and ready to burn seattle to the ground. Instead Christine stood by and watched in disgust as the newborn clan attacked and ravaged any one who happened across the alley that they were creeping in. Riley would frequently ask Christine if she were hungry before he would digress and attempt to control the frenzy that his creations were in. Christine always blatantly ignored his attempts to pry.

She did not want Riley to know her talents. Not all of them. Instead focused her talents on Bree. The girl was only a year and a half younger than her, but she seemed much younger than almost 16. Her timidness seemed childish, but Christine knew that there was more to the girl's fears. She had already been through so much before Riley had turned her. Over the past month Christine learned everything about Bree through her thoughts, another talent that she was hiding from her creator.

She had also learned about the woman. Riley thought about her often, infatuated with the red headed monster. But what he did not know was her ulterior motives surrounding him and the army he was creating for her. He thought that it was to protect the beast, but in reality it was simply a plot to avenge her true mate. That was when Christine decided that she would use her other talent to help her and Bree escape to the mountains before it was too late. She intended to use her ability to project thoughts to make Riley forget about the two of them, and then they would run, but she was fearful that the ploy would not work.

She had been leaning on a dock pillar, watching the newborns ravage two new victims when she first projected the words into Bree's mind.

"Don't be afraid." she said with her mind solely to Bree. Bree's eyes grew wide with terror and she froze still as stone in her hiding place.

"We will be leaving when Riley gets distracted by the mess they are making. Blink if you understand." Christnes words were urgent but calm. She waited for Bree to show her understanding. Her body was tight with anticipation, fearing that Bree would object to leaving the horror coven that created them. Christine could not bear the thought of leaving the girl behind but could not place the odd feeling. Like gravity creating an orbit only for her. Attracting Christine to Bree in a way that she could not place.

After what felt like an eternity Bree Blinked, but she did not make eye contact with Christine. She feared that Riley would notice something off. Christine was thankful for this and instinctively took a breath that was not necessary. Just in that moment Riley landed in a half kneeling stance on the dock, facing the newborns that were fighting over the already half dead bodies of their newest victims. He was angry, frustrated with the messes that the creations kept making in his absences. He approached them with fury emanating from him and began tossing the crazed vampires in multiple directions. He screamed at them about their constant messes, and while he continued his tirade Christine projected the new memories deep into Riley's consciousness. The projections erased her and Bree from his most recent memories and blurred them over. He did not notice the change in his attempts to control his current situation.

Christine took this chance to run. She knew the female was nowhere near, and it was safe to run. The problem lay in Bree's absolute terror. She was still frozen, unable to move. Christine did not think twice about lifting Bree into her arms and lowering the both of them into the water of the sound and swimming away as fast as she was able. She did not stop until she was somewhere miles north of where Riley and his newborns were. Fear that their scent would be picked up and tracked gnawed at her mind. She made sure that she was far enough away to warrant safety before she walked ashore and deposited Bree in the pebbles of the beach. Bree looked at her in shock.

"Are you sure we are safe?" She asked in terror. Christine nodded to her and thought about their predicament. They had to feed, for both of them had refused human blood since their rebirths. She thought thoroughly through her memories and those of Riley's and the woman's. She had remembered the woman telling Riley about the coven she was "afraid" of and that they were not like others of their kind.

"They are monstrosities! They do not think or act the way we do! They hate our kind and they will destroy me if we do not destroy them first!" She had screamed at Riley.

She had later explained that the coven only fed on animals and refused human blood. Their memory triggered an idea. Christine wanted to know more about this coven, but she knew that showing up on their doorstep with coal black eyes and strange abilities would definitely put Bree in danger. So they would have to hunt the way they did. Show up with amber eyes and show the coven they meant no harm. Maybe if they warned the coven of Riley's intent they would not hurt them. Maybe, just maybe they could claim sanctuary in a twisted sort of way.

Christine looked over her shoulder at Bree who looked like she wanted to cry, but who could not make the tears flow. Her heart broke for the sweet creature sitting in the pebbles on the dark wet beach. Oh, how she cared for her. Such a strange feeling. Bree looked up at Christine and opened her mouth to speak again but instead her mind reached out.

"Why are you protecting me?" Her tiny words found Christine.

"I wish I knew…" Christine replied out loud in a gentle voice. She didn't know. All she knew was that this girl was someone she needed to protect. She never felt this way before. Not for her mother, sister, father who all perished a few years ago in a car accident. This feeling was stronger, deeper than familial protectiveness. But still she could not place the feeling. Then again she was only 17 when Riley changed her and she never explored much about her emotions. This now bothered her, because she was not sure how to react to it. All she knew now was to follow her instincts and her instincts were screaming to protect Bree Tanner.

Bree gulped instinctively again, her human bodily instincts still very strong. Her mind was racing at all the possibilities, all that ended in death. Christine pressed her eyes shut and projected her thoughts about meeting the coven and her plans to hunt beforehand. Bree's face relaxed into a stated of confusion. She was seeing thoughts that were not her own. Thoughts that were overpowering hers. The idea of hunting started the burn in both of their throats and Bree found her feet, her face raising to the sky as she began to search the air for the scent of prey. Christine followed suit, but she also reached her mind out searching for the wordless minds that frequented the nearby forest.

She picked up on a small herd of deer miles into the woods and she waited for Bree to pick up the scent. She knew that Bree caught it when her head snapped in the direction of the deer, slinging her wet hair across her face. She was off and running before Christine could catch her thoughts, and she followed in a rush. Bree was faster than Christine had realized and she wondered if it was normal for their kind to move this quickly or if this was another ability that had escaped Rileys grasp. How curious… She thought as she followed Bree to their meal. Bree was on the first deer and Christine did not have to go far to catch the second as the rest of the herd scattered in panic.

The deer were unable to fight as the two young vampire women drank from the deer's fragile bodies. They savored the moment and enjoyed the earthy flavor that the blood had. It did not have the sharp scent of copper and iron like that of human blood. Instead the blood had the scent of earth and grass. A dull and musky scent, but not unappealing. Christine enjoyed it profusely. Bree on the other hand winced as she drank, a disgusted look upon her doll-like face. Christine reached Bree's mind and read through her thoughts as she often did. She found that Bree had enjoyed the scent of human blood much more and that the Deer did not smell nowhere near as appealing to her as they did to Christine. Christine wondered if other prey would have a better flavor that would be more suited to Bree's taste and she projected the idea to Bree.

Bree looked up eagerly and nodded in reply. She raised her face to the sky again and this time she was searching for a new scent. Something that did not smell of earth and grass. She found the scent of earth mixed with the hint of something sweet and she was off again like a flash. Christine almost struggled to keep up and she let out a laugh as she darted after Bree. The new prey was a mountain lion sleeping high up in a tree that Bree proceeded to scale. The mountain lion had no time to react before Bree had snatched him from his sleeping spot and yanked his fighting form to the ground. Her tiny form would have seemed like no match for him but her inhuman strength broke his body and he stopped struggling. She fed and sighed as the new flavor was much easier to consume than the deer.

Christine watched bemused by the sight of Bree's small from holding the mountain lion like it was some giant stuffed toy she had won at a carnival. She almost looked like a small child in comparison. When Bree finished she dropped the corpse of her prey and she looked at Christine with a questioning glare. What? She thought as she stared unmoving.

"You looked like a child holding a toy." Christine laughed in reply. Bree did not like this.

"I was almost 16…" she snapped and she folded her arms over her chest.

" and I just turned 17. Your point?" Christine countered.

Bree looked at her curious again. Her arms loosened and her expression relaxed.

"It wasn't fair… that he chose us… Now what do we do?" She asked, her small voice so serious but sad. Christine projected her plan to Bree again to remind her and Bree responded with an Oh right.

Christine approached Bree then and looked closer at the girl she was protecting. Her long dark curls were dry and fell in curtains that framed her pale face. Her facial features were caught in the middle of child and adult, not fully mature. It was sad that Riley had chosen them. Sad that they will never get to know what it would be like to grow up, go to college, fall in love…

Christine reached out and moved a strand of Bree's hair to behind her ear and smiled at her. Her protective feelings swelled where her human heart used to beat. Best friend, sister, love, companion. All the words flowed through her mind to describe Bree. Bree looked up at her and gasped. At first Christine worried that Bree had heard her thoughts, but then Bree reached up to touch her face.

Your eyes… Bree thought and then Christine could see her face through Bree's mind. Her own face was stuck in the same halfway point of maturity. Not quite adult, with childlike roundness permanently set in her cheeks. She examined her new undead beauty for the first time through Bree's eyes and was fascinated. Her golden hair fell in wild waves, her bangs wisps across her forehead, her skin pale and perfect as if carved from granite. But then the thing that Bree was fascinated by caught her attention. Her eyes. Her once green eyes that had turned black after her rebirth had already begun to shift to an impression deep amber. The color was like molten gold with flecks of sunlight shooting from the iris'. She let her eyes focus outside of Bree's and instead directly on Bree to see if her eyes were beginning to shift in the same way.

Sure enough Bree's eyes were turning a beautiful shade of amber as well, but her's were brighter and the flecks of sunlight were almost glowing in the darkness. The new diet was working. Soon they could move closer to the coven and attempt to meet them. The idea worried Christine though and she ran over the plan in her mind again, thinking of all the possible outcomes. So many things could go wrong. Obviously though she would not fight the coven if they reacted badly. The only way she would fight is if they tried to harm Bree.

She let her mind focus again on Bree. She was enjoying Bree touching her face as if it were still human. Bree was examining how different Christine was from humans.

Do you want to see what you look like? Christine asked with her mind. Bree flinched from the idea, the word no shouted out from her mind. The thought of seeing herself terrified her. Christine was bothered by this, she did not see how Bree could be so fascinated by her face but not want to see her own. Bree was beautiful and perfect and it hurt Christine that Bree would be afraid to see herself. But Christine did not want to push her or make her feel uncomfortable or scared. They had more pressing matters to worry about. Like getting enough blood in them so that they would not be a danger to the human girl that was a member of the coven. The girl the woman was after.
