A/N: Just a cute, cliché drabble. Enjoy!
Distractions
God, he hated parties. If it were up to him, he would never attend these stupid things. There was nothing more abhorrent that standing around a bunch of imbeciles who were incapable of following any kind of intelligent thought. After the Orichalos ordeal, Kaiba Corp.'s reputation was in shambles. Investors were shaken and the Board of Directors were terrified that Duel Monsters would officially be the end of the company. But Seto Kaiba always had a plan. Kaiba Land had been a dream of his and Mokuba since they were children. Now, he and Mokuba were making that dream a reality.
To celebrate the official opening date of Kaiba Land, the Board insisted on throwing a party for investors and shareholders. The Board also insisted on all the competing duelists in the tournament be in attendance. It was hosted at the nicest hotel in Domino and everyone was excited for the black-tie event. Well, except for Kaiba. He really didn't want to go, but he knew he had to make an appearance because he was the one that had to make a speech about Kaiba Land opening. It was his theme park. So, here he was, dressed in a black tuxedo with a crisp navy-blue tie, standing on the balcony to get some reprieve of the inane chatter of the party. He surveyed the surrounding city from the top floor of the hotel; mind still buzzing with all the paperwork and designs he still had to finish.
"Congratulations on Kaiba Land," a voice said behind him.
He stiffened. Great. The cheerleader. Since Yugi was the reigning world champion and Wheeler was a competitor, that meant both those two knuckleheads were in attendance. Of course, the cheerleader and the other one that he never remembered the name of, tagged along. You couldn't see one dork and not find the other three. He had rolled his eyes when he saw the mutt stuffing his face with food while the pointy haired one joined. Why the Board wanted such trash at the party, he had no idea.
"The park looks amazing," Téa continued, "and Mokuba seems extremely proud." He finally turned to face her. He had to admit, she didn't look bad. She was wearing a soft, light blue gown that sparkled when she moved and hugged her curves and breasts. The slit in the dress revealed one gorgeous leg with a silver heel as she continued to approach him. He remembered seeing her distinct embarrassment at seeing the behavior of her friends. At least one person in their group had a sliver of common sense and could conduct themselves with a little bit of dignity.
"Of course, he is. Kaiba Land is a success. No surprise considering it's my project," keeping his tone detached and turned away to go back to surveying the city. "Go back to the imbeciles you call friends. I have no desire to listen to your nonsense." Instead of the clack of her heels fading, he heard them coming closer. He felt his annoyance grow. She stopped when she was standing next to him and placed her hands on the balcony railing. "Are you deaf or just stupid? Leave Gardner."
Téa rolled her eyes. "I don't take orders from you and you don't own this balcony. Besides, I need some air even if that means dealing with you."
"Then do us both a favor and shut up. And for your information, this is my balcony considering I own the hotel."
He heard her mutter, "Of course, you do" but she didn't look to continue the conversation. Silence descended on them. They could still hear the music and laughing coming from inside the ballroom along with the buzz of the city that never seemed to stop. He thought about leaving, but he didn't want her to think he left because she refused to leave. That would be showing weakness.
"I never thanked you," Téa said softly, breaking the stillness of the night.
He couldn't help but look at her, confused. "What are you talking about?" he asked gruffly.
"When Marik's goons had captured me. You saved me. So, thank you."
"Don't get too excited. If I let you die, Mokuba would never let me hear the end of it. Having a death occur during the middle of my tournament would have caused an even bigger headache than it already was."
She rolled her eyes again. She did that a lot it seemed. "You could just say 'you're welcome.' You don't need to be obnoxious about it."
"I'm just surprised you haven't burst into another lecture about friendship and rainbows and started throwing daises."
"If you're not careful, I just might. I'll even make you a flower crown for you and your Blue Eyes."
His head snapped to look at her, a scathing remark on his tongue, when he realized that she was looking at him in amusement. Téa was fully facing him now, with her hand on her hip giving him a chance to fully appreciate her form. That is, until he could see the slight upturn of her soft lips. Soft lips? His drink must have been drugged or something for such a thought to enter his brain.
Kaiba pushed the thought aside and narrowed his eyes at her. "You're teasing me."
"Some of us actually have a sense of humor and aren't emotionless robots. Stop being such a stick in the mud." She seemed to be trying not to laugh, her blue eyes twinkling.
He snarled, "Knock it off. I don't have the time for such frivolous things like emotions. That's why I don't have them. That's why some of us are actually successful rather than just cheering on the sidelines for some idiots." Her eyes darkened a little but the tilt in her smile remained.
"Tell me, do you think all emotions are frivolous?"
"Of course. They're pointless distractions."
She stepped towards him and he forced himself not to take a step back. He refused to give ground. His very nature revolted the idea. "So, Kaiba, you don't feel anything? Happiness, anger, confusion, amusement, passion…love? They're all just distractions to you?" Her voice wrapped around him sensually. Another step towards him.
Kaiba inhaled sharply and his heart gave a distinct thump. He tried to focus on something other than the soft curves of her hips or how he liked the way his name fell from her lips. He grit his teeth in frustration, wondering why a girl he always thought of a nuisance was affecting him this way. "What are you playing at Gardner? It's none of your business." He dropped his voice lower, hoping to sound intimidating, and he thought he succeeded when he saw her shiver. But, instead of backing off, she took another step closer. So close, if she put her hand out, it would be on his chest. He kept the confusion off his face and continued to watch her carefully, trying to figure out what her ploy was.
She tilted her head and gave him a full smile, causing his heart rate to spike. He felt a blush start to creep onto his cheeks.
"What's the matter, Kaiba? You're looking a little flushed," her voice took on a seductive tone. She placed a hand on his shoulder and slowly trailed her hand, so it rested on his chest. The red in his cheeks darkened. He really hoped she couldn't feel his heart thumping painfully. What the hell was he doing? He should've pushed her off him by now and demanded she keep her slimy paws off him. Instead, his body and mind warred against each other as he fought the instinct to pull her closer. "Kaiba…Seto…" she whispered enticingly. He felt a strong pull in his gut as his first name slipped from her lips. Her hand was on his tie and pulled him forward gently so he could feel her breath on his lips. Her other hand was resting above his belt causing his pants to start to feel uncomfortably tight and him to suck in a sharp breath. Before he could stop himself, his hands found her waist and tugged her closer, so her body was fully pressed against his. His nose brushed against hers and the rest of the world faded away as his focus was solely on the feel of her hands and the desire to close the distance between them.
"What are you doing?" he choked out softly. His mind was spinning trying to figure out how he got here and why he wanted to play whatever game she was.
"Distracting you," she breathed as she tilted her head up so their lips was a milometer away. Their breaths continued to mingle, and his head was fogged with unfamiliar feelings. He was wondering why she hadn't kissed him, when he realized that she was waiting for him to make the move. He ignored the more rational side of his mind and cupped her left cheek as he closed the distance between their lips, kissing her gently. Oh wow, did that feel good but then she deepened the kiss and that took the word pleasure to a whole other level. She moaned softly as he tilted her head back and kissed her more fervently, the sound causing all his blood to rush south. He ran his tongue against her lips, begging for entrance, and when she granted it, pleasure surged through him as their tongues battled for dominance.
"Uh, T-Téa?" They both froze at the voice, their mouths still connected. They both pulled back, flushing, and breathing heavy. Kaiba turned slowly to look at whoever interrupted them. Yugi was standing in the door to the balcony, bright red and trying to look anywhere but directly at them. "W-we're getting ready to leave. W-we were looking for you everywhere."
Kaiba realized he was still holding Téa and quickly released her and took a step back. He swallowed as he tried to gather his thoughts and regain his self-control.
Téa cheeks turned pink as she nodded at Yugi. "O-ok, I'll be there in a second." Kaiba tried not to smirk as Yugi gazed at her sadly and turned back into the ballroom. The feelings he had for Téa were clear during Battle City. Clearly, they hadn't changed. Kaiba glanced at Téa and feeling the urge to kiss her again, he stuffed his hands in his pockets and turned to look out at the city. She cleared her throat and said, "Thank you for a lovely evening." He nodded and refused to look at her to try and control his raging hormones. That resolve quickly slipped when she touched his arm and he looked down at her again. She smiled up at him, causing a tug in his gut as the magnetic pull came back full force.
"Let me know if you want to be distracted again." She winked, giving him a satisfied smirk, and then headed towards the door, giving him a fantastic view as her dress moved with her.
"Well, shit."
