You've read the story of Jesse James
of how he lived and died.
If you're still in need;
of something to read,
here's the story of Bonnie and Clyde.
Now Bonnie and Clyde are the Barrow gang
I'm sure you all have read.
how they rob and steal;
and those who squeal,
are usually found dying or dead.
There's lots of untruths to these write-ups;
they're not as ruthless as that.
their nature is raw;
they hate all the law,
the stool pidgeons, spotters and rats.
They call them cold-blooded killers
they say they are heartless and mean.
But I say this with pride
that I once knew Clyde,
when he was honest and upright and clean.
But the law fooled around;
kept taking him down,
and locking him up in a cell.
Till he said to me;
"I'll never be free,
so I'll meet a few of them in hell"
"What are you reading?" Rey looked up at Finn as he walked into the small cafe where she was working.
"The Trails End, by Bonnie Parker" Rey responded closing the book of poetry.
"Bonnie Parker the criminal?" Finn asked, walking right up to the counter and sitting down, his uncomfortable-looking police uniform making a sound clothing should not make.
"The very same," Rey responded turning to make Finn a cup of coffee.
"Aren't you supposed to be working?" he asked.
Rey looked around then looked back at Finn, "As you can see, its just us." Maz's, the cafe where she worked had fallen on hard times, much like the rest of their small world. The conditions were beginning to remind her of the great depression, Finn made the same connection.
"Just don't turn out like her, promise me." Rey laughed and handed Finn his coffee, "I guarantee there is no one nearly as interesting as Clyde Barrow around here, and if there was, I wouldn't follow him, trust me, Finn, I'm not about to become some Bonnie Parker."
"Good," Finn said, taking a sip and giving her a pointed look "because we all know how that turned out."
Rey laughed and grabbed the towel from the pocket of the bright orange jumpsuit that was her uniform. "You act like there is someone in this stupid town who could be the Clyde to my Bonnie.
"No, but there is someone just as dangerous," Finn said, taking another sip of his drink. Rey raised an eyebrow as she leaned across the counter to wipe a spot she had noticed and adjusted the salt and pepper shakers.
"In Takodana?" she asked not even bothering to look over at her best friend.
"Yeah," Finn said, his voice talking in the tone of someone who desperately wanted to share what was on his mind "Senator Organa is from a couple of towns over, Alderaan, you know, the one that's a ghost town now?" Rey moved back to her spot behind the counter and crossed her arms wondering if this story was going anywhere. Seeing her face Finn moved on "Well, turns out her estranged husband lives here right now, and the senator decided to come and join him."
"Are you telling me the senator is dangerous?" Rey laughed
"No, her son, Ben Solo, he just got out of prison, like one of those fancy prisons in the city. He was there for being a part of a gang; you know that First Order gang that was all over the news when that Snoke guy got arrested, anyway, he just got out after serving ten years and his mother is bringing him here because she doesn't think he can get into as much trouble in such a small town.
"So we are getting a senator and a convict in one go?" Rey asked. The situation seemed like something out of a movie, or a book.
"Yup." Fin replied standing up "So be careful Rey." He started walking towards the door, his break from work over.
"I'm always careful." Rey called at his back, he didn't turn around but she could swear she heard him mutter 'no, you're not' under his breath.
After Finn left Rey settled herself onto the stool that sat behind the counter and pulled out her phone, service only worked in certain parts of town and the cafe was not one of them, though that never stopped her from trying, sighing after a long battle with her phone being held up at different angles Rey resigned herself to the fact that the next few hours were going to pass agonizingly slow.
She was right, and at five when Rose came for her shift Rey could not leave fast enough. With barely a wave at her friend, Rey had the sleeves of her jumpsuit tied around her waist and she was on her way home.
She used to have a motorcycle but it was currently sitting in her backyard waiting for her to have the chance to fix it so her only option was to walk. Luckily for her, she didn't live that far out of town, only a couple of miles, she could walk it in half an hour, and had done so so many times that nowadays she barely focused on the road she was walking alongside. She was so spaced out on the familiar walk that she almost did not notice the car on the side of the road and the handsome man standing by it.
"Are you alright?" She asked, slowing to a stop next to the man
"No, my car stopped working and I'm not sure how to fix it." The man responded
Rey couldn't help but be impressed, most men she knew would never admit to not knowing how to fix a car, especially to a woman. "Would you like me to take a look?" she asked, feeling bad for him. The man was tall with a deep voice, and he was wearing all black, a black t-shirt and jeans and though Takodana was not nearly as hot as the desert she grew up in. It was still pretty muggy, especially this far into the summer.
"Would you? I tried to call a tow truck but there is no service out here."
Rey held back a laugh, locals knew that service never worked this far out of town which meant that this man must have been from out of town, she decided to voice her thoughts as she walked toward what looked like a nice car. "Yeah, you weren't going to get service out here, you can barely get it in the middle of town." The man sighed and pocketed the nice cell phone he had had in his hands, it was one of those with the touchscreen that had become the norm, Rey's phone was a flip phone, she figured there was no point in buying one of those fancy expensive phones when it wasn't even going to work half the time.
"Thanks for stopping to help, by the way, two cars passed before you did and they just kept going."
"Yeah, people 'round here are wary of strangers" she muttered, popping the hood and starting to assess what could be wrong with his car "I'm one of the newest people to town and sometimes even I still get treated like an outsider."
"Really?' the man asked, "how long have you been here?"
"Oh," she said, locating the problem "I've been here almost three years," she chuckled "so what's your story."
"I don't have a story." His voice was much closer than she had been expecting and it made her painfully aware that she was only in a jumpsuit tied at the waist and the sports bra she had been sporting underneath. "I'm just passing through."
Looking over her shoulder she couldn't help but notice how well put together he looked despite being stranded on the side of the road. His hair, which should have been frizzing all over the place like hers would have been if not for the three buns in her hair, was framing his face and accenting the large nose and mouth that should not have gone together, but did. He was handsome, she had to admit that, and he was clearly much too good for this little town.
"Well," she said, dusting off her hands and standing up "you should be good to go and finish making your way out."
"Really?" he asked incredulously walking toward the driver side, he put his keys in the ignition and started the car, like she knew it would, it started perfectly "you're good, how much do I owe you."
"Owe me?" She startled "You needed help so I helped you, you don't owe me anything."
"Alright," he said putting away the wallet he had pulled out "but at least let me drive you where you need to go, I'd feel bad if I just took advantage of your kindness."
"What kind of girl do you think I am?" she teased placing a hand on her hip "I don't get into cars with strangers I just met, especially those whose names I don't even know."
"If I told you my name would you get in the car?" he asked, crossing his arms and raising an eyebrow.
"I'd think about it," she said, the words coming out much more flirtatiously than she had intended. Their banter was cut off by a crack of lightning followed closely by a clap of thunder. Looking up Rey realized that while she had been stopped clouds had rolled in and it was clear that rain would come pouring down at any second.
Almost as soon as the thought crossed her mind the heavens opened up and it started to rain, "come on." the man urged pointing towards his car. "Deciding not to argue, Rey ran towards the passenger seat while the man got in the driver's seat.
"Thanks, she said, trying to ignore how nice the inside of his car was, and then trying to ignore the wet spot she is probably going to leave. "I'm Rey by the way, '' she said, extending her hand toward him.
He looked at it for a longer than was strictly necessary and right as she was about to pull her hand back he took it. "I'm Kylo, Kylo Ren."
