I was only told that the room I was moving into in Serpentine Manor belonged to a witch that committed suicide the day I arrived. I knew very little about Pansy Parkinson other than the fact that she supposedly jumped off the astronomy tower of a research academy she worked at over the summer. She was two years above me at Hogwarts, I was glad not to have been in Harry Potter's cursed year, although I did meet the boy once and he was the least intimidating person ever.
Anyways, I was a Slytherin, I graduated that year and was moving into Serpentine Manor, a house where many Hogwarts graduates had moved during their training for a spot in the Ministry of Magic. I heard about muggles having something called "Fraternities and Sororities" sort of the same concept but supposedly they separated the girls and boys. It surprised me sometimes how muggles were able to make themselves even more boring than they already were.
The Manor was owned by the Malfoy's I'm pretty sure. It would explain why Draco ran the house. I'd never spoken to him before at Hogwarts. Sure I knew all about how he became a death eater and his family was a mess because of the Dark Lord but that year thought themselves much more important than they were, we ALL fought through those times, I lost friends and family of my own.

The day Jade moved in I watched her from the back porch as she unpacked her things into one of the rooms on the first floor. Her long black hair hung like a silk curtain over her shoulder as she moved things around somewhat cautiously. She was beautiful like porcelain.
It made me want to break her.
I popped a Crimson Tree Burning Syrup Sweet in my mouth and let it sizzles under my tongue as I watched her.
She was moving into Pansy's old room.
I later watched her face drop when she found out what happened to her. Or at least what Millicent told her happened. No one really knew except me.
"She was absolutely psychotic, always has been. Weak, desperate and obsessed with Draco… like in an overwhelmingly creepy way," I had heard Millicent say with her weirdly deep voice. I rolled my eyes and watched as Jade took in the information that she was sleeping on a dead girl's bed. She didn't seem too uncomfortable, maybe she was familiar with death, after the war we all were anyway. Her eyes sparkled jade, like her name, they were deep, fragile and beautiful. I leaned back on the porch chair and closed my eyes feeling the last remaining burn of the candy.
I wanted to shatter her.

The first time I actually spoke to Draco wasn't until the third day of my first week at Serpentine. He had been distant compared to the others, sort of lurking, it was intimidating but I refused to be scared by him like some of the other graduates that moved in.
His room was on the top floor of the mansion, I had never been up there but was told the whole floor was his and the last time someone went in to snoop he made them eat slugs for a week. My room was in between Blaise and Millicent, Theodore was on the second floor with a pair of twin girls I didn't recognize. There were probably a dozen rooms I had never seen, I honestly had no clue who half the people living there were, nor did I see them often.
I was up late one night thinking of Pansy. I pictured her jumping off the astronomy tower… what a muggle way to die I thought. If I wanted to die I would poison myself or have someone kill me in my sleep. Maybe she was crazy.
Suddenly it felt very wrong to be in her bed. I shot up and pointed my wand at the chalkboard leaning up against my window and watched as "GET A NEW BED" wrote itself neatly on the surface.
I left the room looking for a couch in the first floor living area I could sleep on for the night. They were all different shades of green and silver, I thought it tacky to maintain such Slytherin decoration once out of school.
I noticed the slightest movement of the porch swing outside and looked over just as I had chosen a simple grey silk sofa near the fireplace.
Draco sat there in the dark. I knew it was him.
"Jade is it?" He called from outside. I froze, his voice sounded like velvet and snakeskin. I looked down at my black nightgown and cleared my throat debating whether I should pretend to be sleepwalking.
I heard the porch swing creak and new he had stepped off and begun to walk towards me.
"You know you're the first not to leave after finding out about Pansy's room," He said now much closer to me.
"It's not like she died in the room…" I mumbled, still not looking up at him. What happened to not being intimidated? I don't know.
"She speaks!" I could hear Draco's smirk as he sat down on the grey couch. I slowly allowed my eyes to drag over to him. He was in a pair of navy blue pajama pants and wasn't wearing a shirt. Leaned back against the couch his abs glistened in the firelight. I felt my face heat up and looked away. Draco chuckled at my discomfort and ran a hand through his hair.
"You can sit you know, I don't bite," he looked at me sideways, "unless you want me too." He smiled a perfect white grin. I almost choked on my saliva, who did he think he was? I rolled my eyes suddenly feeling stupid for acting so scared and timid.
"I was just looking to sleep somewhere else tonight, but you've taken my chosen spot," I gestured towards his body not wanting to look at his abs again, "so I'll just head back and sleep on the floor." I gave him a tight smile and turned around.
"Go sleep in my room, I'm not going to bed tonight," Draco said in a bored tone. I turned slowly my eyes widening.
"You don't let anyone go up there," I said matter-a-factly. He laughed quietly and suddenly he was standing in front of me and we were nose to nose.
"That's what I would say so Pansy wouldn't come into my room in the middle of the night and try to have sex with me," He whispered. I had to stop myself from rolling my eyes again, I highly doubted Pansy was as mental as everyone was making her out to be. And Draco was hot… very hot… but that didn't mean I thought someone couldn't control themselves to the point of jumping on him in the middle of the night.
"You made someone eat slugs," I said trying not to stare into his piercing icy eyes. He went serious.
"That was Blaise and he deserved it," he opened his mouth to say something else but I interrupted him suddenly remembering something.
"Blaise! He has a bunk bed, I'll go sleep there," Draco's face stiffened only slightly at my blatant rejection of using his oh so precious bed and I mentally high-fived myself.
The truth was I didn't know if I was anywhere near close enough to Blaize to sleep in the bunk above him but I wasn't planning on asking permission, and I was going to sneak out before he woke up.
"You would rather sleep in Blaise's raggedy ass—
"Yep." I interrupted him and spun around without another word.
That night I decided I didn't like Draco.
It felt good to leave him standing there shirtless looking like a child about to throw a tantrum.
"So Jasmine I was thinking, if this is going to be a recurring thing of me waking up with you in my spare bed we might need to work out some sort of arrangement," I was woken up by Blaise with both hands under his chin against the edge of the top bunk smiling at me with an amused face. I quickly sat up realizing I had slept in. I rubbed at my eyes and focused on Blaise. His chocolate brown skin was smooth and shiny, his walnut-coloured eyes had flecks of yellow and gold, he was really quite handsome. He waved a hand in front of my face.
"Earth to Jasmine," I dragged my hand over my face and yawned.
"Jade, my name is Jade." It was then confirmed we definitely were not close enough for me to stay the night in his room if he didn't even know my name. I sleepily laughed at myself and got up adjusting my nightgown and moving past Blaise down the side of the bed. He watched me in a sort of amazed daze.
"It was only for tonight, thank you for not making me eat slugs," I winked at him and swiftly walked out of his room hearing him say something along the lines of "sexy as fuck" as I stepped into my room.
I smirked at myself.
This was going to be an interesting year.
