Kickin' It In Kanto - The Blizzard King Vs. Articuno
One of the worst trainers that Kanto has ever seen, Kenta Itou, is sick of losing. After another defeat at the hands of Koga, he heads off for the Seafoam Islands where he can catch himself an Ice-type Pokémon. Little does he know that the Blizzard King is also there to catch the legendary Articuno. And he doesn't like visitors.
A QUICK NOTE ON POKEMON CAPITALIZATION
I want to say that I don't want to be a part of the small war that's happening in the community. I've decided to capitalize the way that I want to. I own countless official Pokémon storybooks that I read to kids, and they capitalize Pokémon names and certain establishments, i.e. Pokémon Centers. I don't care if you do or don't. I don't care if it's wrong or right. Don't waste your time reviewing that aspect of my story. However, feel free to review my comma usage, any improper punctuation, and areas that could make do with more description, as I want to become a better writer and am always open to constructive criticism. Debating over something as arbitrary as whether or not to capitalize Jigglypuff isn't gonna do that. Thank you!
Scene 1 - The Blizzard King
The weather on Sinnoh's Route 217 was always intense. The snow hardly, if ever, let up, and when winter came around, it was almost impossible to see any of the surroundings.
But one man wasn't bothered. He trudged through the snow, his large green and white Pokémon following closely, dragging its feet. He was a large man around the waist, and his insulated white coat made him look even bigger. He had a huge hood over his head, thick gloves on his hands, and heavy white boots to protect his feet which left big imprints in the snow. The man stopped and looked around. All he could see was the white of the storm, but he knew better than that.
"We're in Sneasel territory, Abomasnow. Be on the lookout," he warned.
His Pokémon nodded. It looked around, having better visibility in the snow. Just as his master had claimed, there were dozens of Sneasel, ready to strike. They seemed to be apprehensive though, not sure if the man and his Abomasnow were fearless or stupid. Either way, the two were dangerous; the Sneasel knew that much.
The man lowered the scarf that covered his mouth. He had a thick white beard, because of his work, but with temperatures as intense as it was, he still preferred the scarf. "We mean only harm. You should attack and get this over with. Someone is willing to pay a lot for your entire herd."
The Sneasel couldn't understand what the man was saying, but they now knew that he was aware of their presence. They looked around towards one another, giving each other signals for what to do next.
The man raised his hand into the air, preparing to give a command, but before he could, there was a sudden ringing from his pocket. He paused and groaned before pulling out a small cellular device. "Right now? How do I even have reception out here?"
The Sneasel were now even more confused. They had never seen such a device, and they weren't sure if they should be worried, but they were now on alert in case there were sudden movements. An explosion at such a close distance could wipe them all out.
The man pressed a small button and then put the device to his ear. "What do you want, Ryuma? Now's not the time."
"I think now's a perfect time. I recently got a phone call from a potential buyer in Kanto. They specifically asked for your services. Anyone but the Blizzard King is unacceptable," a voice, distorted with warbles, responded.
"I'm about to rake in a lot of money with this current catch," the man said. He looked around, unsure if the Sneasel had run away or not. "I don't want to fly out the Kanto for some random person."
"But you're up for a challenge, right?"
"I don't think you know me very well."
Abomasnow crossed his arms. He continued to keep a close eye on the Sneasel as they slowly retreated into their caverns. "A-bo."
"Give me the details. Make it quick. You have ten seconds to sell me on it."
"The reward is one million poké. It's to capture an Articuno on the Seafoam Islands."
"And the buyer?"
"I did some snooping because I know that you're not a fan. Rumor has it that the buyer is not related to Team Rocket in any way. After all, they disbanded a couple of years back, but I never have direct contact with buyers, so I can't confirm it. You catch the bird, give it to me, and then I'll transfer it to the right people. Easy. You have one week."
"They pay for my jet. Make it private, and I'll be there tomorrow."
"I believe that can be arranged," Ryuma's warbly voice said. "I'll let you finish your little project now and contact you in an hour to sort out your travel plans. Good luck."
"Don't need it," he responded before pushing the button on his device, cutting the connection between him and his advisor. "Abomasnow, let's consider this a warm-up."
"A-bo."
He raised his hand into the air once again and pointed towards the sky. "Bring 'em down. Use Blizzard!"
AUTHOR'S NOTES:
This is a short spin-off of my story Kickin' It In Kanto. This will take place roughly three years beforehand though, so you can read this without having read anything else I've posted.
All of my "movie" stories start with a simple one-page scene that sets up everything else. The following chapters/scenes will be a lot longer, so don't worry.
