Chapter 10 (Amara)
Offender leaves me in a room with a bed, a mirror, a toilet, and no windows or doors, "Now, I don't want you but until I get Carter you'll have to do it." I look around the room trying to find him, "Where are you?" I growl out. The room stays silent, I sigh in frustration and plop down on the bed. My hand touches something with a weird feeling on the sheets. I look down at the bed to find a dried puddle of blood, "That's Carters, stupid girl attempted suicide." Goosebumps travel up my body as I start chipping at the dried blood with my nail, "Are you ready to give her up?" His voice asks me, "No." I stop chipping at the blood and look up to see Offender standing next to the mirror, "Look in the mirror." I stand up and walk to the mirror. In the mirror is a version of me, surrounded by dead bodies of our friends, Carter is standing next to me holding a knife. We're facing each other. It looks like i'm begging her to stop, "This is the future, she will lose control and she will kill you all." His voice cuts out.
"I don't believe you" He appears in front of me.
"Look again." He smiles and holds up a red rose and a blue rose, "The red rose allows you to be set free if you give me Carter. And the Blue flower forfeits your life." He frowns, "If you will not give her to me, you will die" He goes to hand me the red rose, I smack it out of his hand.
"I would rather die than give her to you!" I snatch the blue rose and he growls at me.
"Oh, that won't kill you...You'll just lose yourself." He disappears. My heart aches for a deep longing for a moment before vanishing. I place my hand over my heart, dropping the rose to the floor, I lie on the bed and start to cry.
"What's wrong with me?" I ask out loud to myself.
"You, my dear, are losing who you are." My head goes fuzzy and I scratch at my neck with my nails. I sit up on the bed, staring at the mirror that's right across from it. I look at my reflection, I look at how pale my skin looks compared to my dark hair but also how the darkness of my hair makes the blue of my eyes stand out. I slowly stand and walk over to the full length mirror, I reach my hand out and touch it. Feeling the coolness of the glass against my skin, I shiver and pull my hand away. I stand there for a few minutes watching my reflection knowing that if I think about it hard enough I could break the mirror. Just as I'm about to give up it starts to crack, I laugh as the mirror continues to break.
"See that, I'm not fucking playing your games!" I yell into the empty space of the room. The pieces of the mirror fall onto the floor only to fly back up and repair itself, "Are you really willing to spend your life here, unable to watch your children grow? They'll never know who you are. Are you willing to give that all up just for a girl you barely know?" The presence behind me tells me where he is. I turn to face him, "I do know her, I know her better than anyone and I will protect her from you. Even if it means giving up my family." He disappears without a word. I go to the bed and lie down, I put my hand under the pillow deciding that if I have nothing better to do I'll just sleep. I lay there for a little bit when I feel something touch my hand. I sit up, lift up the pillow, and I see a box cutter laying there. I smirk, holding the box cutter in my hand, I make the blade go up all the way watching it shine in the light of the room. I take the blade down a few notches while laughing, knowing I've won this game.
"I'll see you later bitch," I say into the empty space while holding the blade to the side of my throat.
"WHAT ARE YOU DOING!" His voice booms through the empty space, but before he can do anything I jam the blade into my neck right where the main artery is. I gasp roughly feeling the blood drain out of my neck as everything goes black.
~Carter~
I stop to catch my breath, Jack stops beside me. "You okay?" I nod my head and then take off once again. We ran for another few minutes when I broke through the clearing he had left me at the first time. I stop to look for clues about the direction they went, "Carter?" Jack says quietly. I face him, he has a hand on his neck with a pained expression, "Something's wrong." I close my eyes and concentrate on finding her Amara I think. I keep repeating it as I try to connect with her mind, "Carter." A voice replies in my head I get the same pain in my neck as Jack had gotten, but for me I got her location.
"I've got her!" I take off running in the direction her voice came from. Surprisingly she's not but a few minutes of running away from us. Amara is lying outside of the cabin that I had been locked in.
"Amara!" Jack and I ran to her side. I drop to my knees and put pressure on her wound. She looks up at me with a small smile on her face.
"What happened? Did he hurt you?" Amara blinks twice and raises her hand in front of my face. She takes her pointer finger and her middle finger together then taps them against her thumb.
"No." She smirks and closes her eyes, "I wouldn't hurt my niece." I stand up and face him, "Stay with her Jack." I walk up to him.
"WHAT DID YOU DO!" He tilts his head at me.
"I wouldn't hurt her, Carter. You care too much about her." I slam my hands on his chest and he goes flying backwards. About 15 feet away he stands back up and points at me.
"This wouldn't have happened if you had just came with me in the first place! Now you've doomed us all!" He disappears then reappears in front of me, "She's dead! Do you know what happens when she dies?!" He yells in my face. Tentacles come out of his back and wrap around my throat, he lifts me in the air. My hands pull at the tentacles, trying to be able to breath again, "She comes back stronger, almost as strong as my brother. She'll be out of control with her new powers." I'm able to pry my fingers through enough to breathe a little.
"Carter! She's awake!" Jack yells behind me. Something inside me gets a bad feeling.
"Too bad you can't come back like she can, you don't possess the same powers she does. One of the tentacles raises up and plunges forwards,
"CARTER!" Amara screams. Dad drops me onto the leaves and then disappears. I blink my eyes only to open them to have Amara and Jack leaning over me.
"Ouch." I look down to see a gaping hole in the middle of my chest, "Dang." I plop my head back onto the leaves,
"It's okay, Baby." I close my eyes as Amara pets my hair. Jack stands and walks away.
"Jack." I look up at him, "Don't steal other people's clothes." He smiles at me sadly and walks out of my view so I look back at Amara, "Sing to me." She makes a weird face at me.
"What song?" I roll my eyes at her.
"Pick one, dumbass." Amara laughs as a tear falls out of her eyes.
"Okay how about The End of All Things?" I nod my head and close my eyes waiting for her to start.
Whether near or far
I am always yours
Any change in time
We are young again
Lay us down
We're in love
We're in love
In these coming years
Many things will change
But the way I feel
Will remain the same
Lay us down
We're in love
We're in love…
Amara suddenly stops singing, I meet her gaze and smile.
"Don't do that." She says weakly.
"Don't do what?" She rolls her eyes before playing with a strand of my hair.
"Don't smile at me like it's the last time you'll see me." I gently pat her hand, sighing, I close my eyes.
"I think it is. I have goosebumps." I smirk and open an eye to peak at her.
"You always give me goosebumps." She snorts and puts her hand over the gaping hole in my chest.
"Jack went to get Dad, he'll heal you. Just hang on." I close my eyes, trying to find Jack's head. I search for a moment before I get an image of him running, the mansion just ahead.
"Jack, stop. I don't want you to get him." Jack stops and puts a hand to his head.
"Carter?" I smirk slightly as Amara continues to hum to me.
"Let me go, Jack. Everything would be better with me gone." Anger radiates from him.
"Yeah right! If anything you've made this family better." I huff as he starts running again and blocks me from his head. I open my eyes to see Amara stares into the forest.
"Mara?" I turn my head slightly. Sally is standing there holding a small creature in her hands.
"Mommy, Aunt Moo Moo." She walks carefully over to us and kneels next to me, "Aunt Moo Moo, I got you something." I smile at her softly.
"What is it, Baby?" Sally smiles and shows me the small creature, "It's a kitty!" I can hear Amara sigh, "Thank you, Baby." I pat her hair, leaving a bloody handprint in her head. The warm breeze is starting to freeze me, "It's cold." I whisper to them as my eyes feel heavy, it feels like if you're tired and fighting to stay awake in order to finish watching the last bits of that movie or to finish the last chapter of that book.
"Carter." I open my eyes.
"Sorry, I didn't realize I fell asleep." I mumble to her.
"AMARA!" I jump at the call of her name. Slendy appears next to us, he places a hand over the hold in my chest.
"I can't do anything, I'm sorry." Slendy reaches forwards and runs his fingers through my hair. The soothing motion makes me feel more tired than before.
"Night, Mara." I mumble to her. My eyes close and it's like falling asleep.
