Chapter 1: A Seem Of Interest
Our story begins on the Island of Sodor, but before we get to that, here are some changes that happened on the island; New friends have joined the railway, old friends have returned, and new places have been added on the map. Edward moved out of Tidmouth Sheds and now lives in Wellsworth with Philip, and it's the starting point of his branch line. And with one berth empty at Tidmouth Sheds, the Fat Controller asked Molly to fill in that space until another Engine will take permanent residence. Molly usually lives at Vicarstown Sheds with Rosie and Billy. And speaking of Rosie, she changed her coat of paint from lavender to cherry red, which that really surprised James.
Now, on to the story…
It's the spring holiday on the Island of Sodor. Visitors from worldwide came to the island to spend their holiday there. And the one way they chose to get around the island, was going by train. "/Engines whistling\"
One day, Thomas was chuffing along on his branch line with his two coaches, Annie and Clarabel. And also, with him, was his best friend and partner, Dreamy. But Dreamy, happens to be, a Smurf. The two met when Thomas and his friends first came to the Smurf village in the medieval times and in the 16th century. And since that then, they were inseparable, and the most splendid and smurfiest of friends.
The two friends were enjoying their time together.
/Dreamy\: "Smurf, it's very smurfy for Papa Smurf to let us Smurfs smurf our vacation here on Sodor to be with you Engines."
/Thomas\: "And indeed he did. We are happy for you all to spend your holiday here. That way, we can be together."
/Dreamy\: "Yes sirree!"
/Annie\: "We are glad to have you Smurfs here. Isn't that right, my dear sister?"
/Clarabel\: "Oh yes, most definitely."
/Dreamy\: "Thanks, you two."
As Thomas was chuffing along, Dreamy was admiring the scenery. He thinks that the countryside looked very fascinating. And he was also very impressed on how well his friend was doing on his job.
/Dreamy\: "Smurf Thomas, you sure work very smurfy on smurfing your branch line."
/Thomas\: "Not only that, I'm the pride of it as well."
/Annie\: "And he always has been."
/Clarabel\: "Ever since he first rescued James on his first day."
/Dreamy\: "Oh yeah, that was very smurfily heroic, Thomas. You're a hero."
/Thomas\: "Oh, it was nothing. And you're a hero too, Dreamy. When you go on your adventures and exploring the wonders around you."
/Dreamy\: "Yeah, I sure am."
/Annie\: "You two really are heroes."
/Clarabel\: "Most definitely."
The two friends beamed with pride.
And so on, they continued off enjoying their time together.
Even though, Dreamy was not the only one who was spending time with his best friend. His fellow Smurfs were also spending time with their best friends and partners.
Handy and Willing were with Edward.
Nat and Tracker were with Henry.
Hefty and Tuffy were with Gordon.
Grouchy and Vanity were with James.
Harmony and Jokey were with Percy.
Farmer was with Toby.
Clumsy was with Duck.
Christopher and Marco were with Donald and Douglas.
Brainy was with Oliver.
Smurfette was with Emily and Molly.
Sassette was with Rosie.
Snappy was with Billy.
And Slouchy was with Flora.
And they were all having a wonderful time being together.
Later, Thomas arrived at Knapford Station. He had just finished for the day.
Just then, Dreamy had something in his mind.
/Dreamy\: "Ummm, Thomas?"
/Thomas\: "Yes Dreamy?"
/Dreamy\: "An Engine smurfed me that you first smurf to the mainland, is that true?"
/Thomas\: "Actually, I've 'returned' to the mainland."
/Dreamy\: "What do you mean 'returned'?"
/Thomas\: "I used to live in the mainland."
/Dreamy\: "What?! Really?!"
/Thomas\: "Yes."
/Dreamy\: "Wow, no one smurfed me that! So why you smurfed back to the mainland?"
/Thomas\: "It's a long story. Would you like to hear it?"
/Dreamy\: "Oh yeah, please!"
So Thomas began his story to Dreamy.
/Thomas\: "/Chattering\"
Suddenly, Diesel oiled into the station, and he can see Annie and Clarabel. And where there's Annie and Clarabel, there's Thomas. He saw the chance to spook him.
/Diesel\: "/Cackling quietly\"
And Thomas was unaware of it.
But, Clarabel can see Diesel coming.
/Clarabel\: "/GASP\ Thomas!"
/Thomas\: "/Chattering\"
/Clarabel\: "Thomas!"
Clarabel's reaction caught Annie's attention and she also saw Diesel coming.
/Annie\: "/GASP\ Thomas!"
/Thomas\: "/Chattering\"
/Annie\: "Thomas!"
But Thomas was not listening.
/Thomas\: "/Chattering\"
/Annie & Clarabel\: "THOMAS!"
/Thomas\: "What?!"
/Annie & Clarabel\: "LOOK OUT FOR…"
But it was too late.
/Diesel\: "/TOOOOOT!\ BOOOOO!"
/Thomas\: "AAAAAHHHHHH!"
/Dreamy\: "AAAAAHHHHHH!"
That spooked Dreamy as well.
/Annie & Clarabel\: "/Soft tone\ …Diesel."
/Diesel\: "/Cackling\"
Thomas was cross.
/Thomas\: "OH! DIESEL, I JUST CAN'T STAND YOUR DEVIOUS BEHAVIOR!"
/Diesel\: "Oops, sorry. Sometimes I just can't help myself. Hee-hee-hee."
/Thomas\: "BOTHER!"
Dreamy was furious.
/Dreamy\: "THAT'S NOT SMURFY, PAL!"
That caught Diesel's attention.
/Diesel\: "What's this?! A blue rat?!"
/Dreamy\: "I'M NOT A RAT!"
/Diesel\: "It can talk?! And it's wearing clothes!"
/Dreamy\: "DUH!"
/Diesel\: "Well if you're not a rat, then what are you?"
/Dreamy\: "I'm a Smurf!"
/Diesel\: "A Smurf? What's that?"
/Thomas\: "/MOAN\ They're magical creatures, Diesel."
/Diesel\: "Wow! How come I never heard of them?"
/Thomas\: "/Sarcastically\ Ohh, why didn't you?"
Diesel somehow seemed very interested in Dreamy.
/Diesel\: "Are there more like you?"
/Dreamy\: "/Sarcastically\ Gee, I don't know."
/Diesel\: "Hmm. Say Thomas, mind if I have a chat with that Smurf?"
/Thomas\: "Oh, it's not up to me, Diesel. It's up to Dreamy."
/Diesel\: "Oh. Say, little Smurf, why don't we have a chat so I can get to know you."
/Dreamy\: "Hmm, let me smurf. Uhh… No."
/Diesel\: "Oh, come on. Please?"
/Dreamy\: "No thank you."
/Diesel\: "What?!"
/Thomas\: "That's his final answer, Diesel."
/Diesel\: "But, but, but…"
/Annie\: "You heard Dreamy, Diesel."
/Clarabel\: "Loud and clear."
/Diesel\: "/Stuttering\"
/Thomas\: "Now if you excuse us, we would like to head home. Goodbye Diesel."
/Dreamy\: "Smurf ya later."
And Thomas, with Dreamy on board, chuffed off with a huff.
/Clarabel\: "Hmph!"
Diesel was unhappy.
/Diesel\: "Oh, bother!"
And all he can do was motor away.
As Diesel was motoring off to the Dieselworks, he couldn't stop thinking about his situation.
/Diesel\: "Bother, that Smurf! Who's he to say no to me! Oh, it makes me so… Ohh!"
But then, he had a thought.
/Diesel\: "I wonder if there's more of him? If there is, then I'll have my chance with one of them."
And he motored on cheerfully thinking about meeting more of the Smurfs.
Just then, Diesel was approaching Wellsworth Station.
But then…
/Diesel\: "/GASP\"
He came to a screeching halt. "/Brakes Screeching\" He was ecstatically surprised.
There at the platform, was Edward. And along with him, were two more Smurfs, Handy and Willing.
Diesel was excited. He moved closer to Edward.
/Diesel\: "/Sweetly\ Hello Edward."
/Edward\: "Oh, hello Diesel."
/Diesel\: "I see you have Smurfs."
/Edward\: "Yes, and?"
/Diesel\: "Thomas has a Smurf."
/Edward\: "/Sarcastically\ So he does."
/Diesel\: "Sooo… Mind if I have a chat with them?"
/Edward\: "Hmm, what do you think you two?"
/Handy\: "Let us smurf."
/Willing\: "Ummm…"
/Handy & Willing\: "No."
/Diesel\: "What?! Oh, please!"
/Handy & Willing\: "No thank you."
/Diesel\: "But…"
/Handy & Willing\: "No thank you!"
/Diesel\: "/Stuttering\"
/Edward\: "Sorry, Diesel. Now if you don't mind, I'm on my way to Tidmouth Sheds to see the others. Good day."
And Edward puffed away with Handy and Willing on board.
/Diesel\: "Oh, bother!"
And Diesel oiled unhappily away.
But soon enough throughout the day, to his surprised, Diesel could see that the other Engines, mostly the steamies, have more of the Smurfs. This made him hopeful to have the chance to chat with one of them.
First, he met up with Henry, who has Nat and Tracker.
Diesel asked sweetly to them.
But like the others, they all said the same answer.
/Nat\: "No."
/Tracker\: "No thank you."
/Henry\: "Maybe next time, Diesel."
And Henry chuffed away as well.
/Diesel\: "Oh, bother!"
Diesel kept going on the same thing.
To Gordon, who has Hefty and Tuffy.
/Hefty\: "Nope."
/Tuffy\: "Nah-uh."
/Gordon\: "Goodbye Diesel."
To James, who has Grouchy and Vanity.
/Grouchy\: "I HATE smurfing a chat with you!"
/Vanity\: "And I smurf, no thanks."
/James\: "Sorry, Diesel."
To Percy, who has Harmony and Jokey.
/Harmony\: "No way, smurf way."
/Jokey\: "You're joking, right?"
/Percy\: "So long, Diesel."
To Toby, who has Farmer.
/Farmer\: "Nope, but thank you."
/Toby\: "Cheerio, Diesel."
To Duck, who has Clumsy.
/Clumsy\: "Uhh, no thanks."
/Duck\: "Sorry Diesel, maybe next time."
To Donald and Douglas, who they have Christopher and Marco.
/Christopher\: "Marco?"
/Marco\: "Christopher?"
/Christopher & Marco\: "No thank you."
/Donald\: "Sorry, laddie."
/Douglas\: "Aye, maybe tomorrow."
/Donald & Douglas\: "Goodbye."
To Oliver, who has Brainy.
/Brainy\: "I had to smurf with a… no."
/Oliver\: "See you later, Diesel."
To Emily and Molly, who they have Smurfette.
/Smurfette\: "Oh heavens, no."
/Emily\: "You heard her, Diesel."
/Molly\: "Sorry."
To Rosie, who has Sassette.
/Sassette\: "Pleadin' puffins, no way."
/Rosie\: "Sorry Diesel, that's her final answer."
To Billy, who has Snappy.
/Snappy\: "Nope, nope, nope!"
/Billy\: "So long, oily wheels."
And lastly, to Flora, who has Slouchy.
/Slouchy\: "Thanks, but no thanks."
/Flora\: "I'm sorry, Diesel. Perhaps tomorrow."
Diesel was very unhappy and felt defeated.
/Diesel\: "OH, BOTHER!"
So all he can do was just motor off to the Dieselworks, fuming.
At Tidmouth Sheds, the 16 steamies were all gathered up. They were all talking on how their day was going. And the Smurfs were joining in as well.
/Thomas\: "So, how was everyone's day is going?"
/Edward\: "Well, my day was great!"
/Henry\: "So do me!"
/Gordon\: "And me!"
/James\: "Mine was splendid!"
/Percy\: "So was mine!"
/Toby\: "And mine!"
/The other nine\: "And us also!"
/Thomas\: "And are you Smurfs enjoying your holiday?"
/Smurfette\: "Oh, yes!"
/Sassette\: "We are!"
/Snappy\: "Smurf-a-roo!
/Dreamy\: "/Upsettingly\ Well, almost everysmurf."
/Slouchy\: "Uh-oh."
/Nat\: "What happen to you?"
/Dreamy\: "An Engine named Diesel smurfed the smurfs out of me and Thomas!"
/The Smurfs minus Dreamy\: "/Gasp\"
/Clumsy\: "Golly, that's awful!"
/Brainy\: "We're sorry to smurf that."
/Thomas\: "Well, don't be. At least the rest of our day went fine."
/Smurfette\: "Oh, good."
/Handy\: "However, Diesel isn't like any of you steam engines."
/Edward\: "You're right, Handy."
/James\: "Diesel is a diesel engine."
/Vanity\: "Like Salty and Mavis?"
/Willing\: "And Philip?"
/Smurfette\: "And Daisy?"
/Edward\: "Yes."
/Emily\: "But you Smurfs better be careful. Diesel isn't like the other diesels that you all mention."
/Jokey\: "Why is that?"
/Harmony\: "Yeah, why?"
/Percy\: "Diesel is devious, and very sneaky."
/Oliver\: "And he likes to tell lies, and can play the blame game."
/Duck\: "Now what does that remind me of? Oh yes, by three big engines who did that to me one time ago!"
Henry, Gordon, and James blushed bright red and felt ashamed.
/Duck\: "Hmph!"
/Clumsy\: "/Giggling\"
/Dreamy\: "And you all know what else? Diesel wants to have a smurf with me."
/Handy\: "Really? He smurf that to me and Willing too."
/Willing\: "Yeah."
/Nat & Tracker\: "And us."
/Hefty & Tuffy\: "And us."
/Grouchy & Vanity\: "Us too."
/The other Smurfs\: "And all of us."
/Hefty\: "But to be honest, Engines."
/Tuffy\: "We don't want to have a smurf with Diesel."
/Vanity\: "Now that you all smurfed us about him."
/Grouchy\: "And I already HATE him!"
/Gordon\: "Well Smurfs, it's your decision."
/James\: "And we will not bring ourselves into your situation."
The Smurfs were grateful.
/Donald\: "But, it's not just Diesel that you wee Smurfs need to look out for."
/Douglas\: "Aye, there are other ones like him too."
/Christopher\: "Oh, smurf."
/Marco\: "You smurf it, my brother."
/Molly\: "Just be sure to be aware, Smurfs."
/Rosie\: "Yes, you'll never know."
/Billy\: "A sneaky diesel might pop out of nowhere."
/Flora\: "So don't let your guard down."
/Brainy\: "Absosmurfly, and Papa Smurf always smurf that to us when Gargamel used to live around and away from our village."
And the other Smurfs agreed with Brainy.
/Edward\: "Well, I should get puffing, I have some more work to do tomorrow."
/Toby\: "So do I."
/Duck\: "Me too."
/Donald & Douglas\: "Aye, us too."
/Oliver\: "And me."
/Rosie, Billy, & Flora\: "And us also."
/Farmer\: "But us Smurfs will still ensmurf our vacation while you Engines smurf."
/Dreamy\: "Yes indeed."
/Thomas\: "See you all tomorrow, good night."
/The other nine engines\: "Good night."
/The other Smurfs with the nine engines\: "Good night."
And they all puffed off to their sheds, with their Smurf partners aboard.
/Thomas\: "Well, good night everyone."
/Dreamy\: "Smurf you all in the morning."
/The other six engines\: "Good night, Thomas."
/The other Smurfs with the six engines\: "Nighty-night, Dreamy."
The Smurfs all snuggled into their sleeping bags.
And one by one, the Engines and the Smurfs closed their eyes, and went happily to sleep.
Meanwhile, at the sheds in the Dieselworks, the diesels were sleeping as well. But except for one.
Diesel was having trouble getting himself to sleep. He couldn't stop thinking about the replies that the Smurfs said to him. It made him miserable. All he wants was to get to know the Smurfs. But of course, Diesel was a big devious nuisance, but he does have a soft side. He just does not like to express it that much. And after all, they don't call him Devious Diesel for nothing.
Just then, Diesel calmed himself down and began to see the bright side.
/Diesel\: "Well, tomorrow is a new day. And I hope I get to chat with them Smurfs. Just as long those steamies don't bring themselves into the situation. And if they do, I'll get even with them, literally."
At last, Diesel felt sleepy.
/Diesel\: "/YAWN\"
He closed his eyes, and went to sleep, hoping he will get what he wants.
